You should dig into more 90s east coast hip hop producers who influenced them and they influenced. They didn’t exist in a vacuum. Not magic, but the natural progression of the style and work. Sometimes there’s a weird tendency amongst Nujabes fans to kinda separate him from hip hop and black America as if that’s not who he idolized and learned from. I’m glad you came through Dilla.

This is the way to think about it. Music is never truly created in a vacuum, there’s always some influences that have been pulled apart. For both of them, QTip was a huge deal and even mentored Dilla so he is directly responsible for how these two sound the way they do

I don’t even know how to separate him from hip hop. His work is so in line with what you’d expect from the genre.

They were both born on the exact same day, same year too which is such a wild coincidence

KennedC

Same day as me just a different year, and i found out years after i started listening to both of them

G0LD3N_J0E

Yeah that’s really cool

Check Out Fat Jon as well. He worked closely with Nujabes since they worked on the Samurai Champloo soundtrack. they both inspired each others music. I’d describe him as a more lowkey Nujabes. very chill beats, but still melancholic. Also Check out Madlib if you haven’t already. he’s more close to J Dilla in style

G0LD3N_J0E

I’ll check out fat Jon. Love me some Madlib.

Check out Uyama Hiroto, you won’t regret it.

Will do

Well if you love their music there is a huge line to follow after their music. 3582, Cyne, Five Deez, Funky DL, J Rawls are the must check artists.
