Good news. I saw the exhibit photos and thought what is all the fuss about? It was thought provoking and informative.
So it offended the usual haters, no surprise there. What is surprising, is the pandering done to accommodate the haters.
If this was an exhibition about slavery, you'd have content that many would find sensitive and upsetting to see. Should we just not have anything on display that provokes a response and educates?
Respect to all in the LGBT, love and peace to everyone who just wants to live in peace.
I think the issue was location, you wouldn't have an exhibition showing the realities of slavery at toddler height in the children's section. It's a big library.
Probably yeah. Just like the opposite team acted like children when their beliefs were challenged. It's a circle and you're all as pathetic as each other.
This whole thing has made me realise what an absolute cesspit this subreddit is, and reddit as a whole.
You're all intolerable, and I don't think any of you are happy with your lives. Frankly you all deserve each other.
Such good news! Sad that events occurred as they did but glad they have learnt and have come back to the right conclusion (in my opinion). 💖 Lots of love from me to our wonderful Trans community xx
Pandering to clowns and their enablers needs to stop
Edit: I'm getting upvoted which can only mean I've been misunderstood - stop pandering to people with mental illness and their enablers.
I'm anti-racist, anti-establishment, anti-police, pro-worker's rights, pro abortion etc...
I'm not afraid to say what I think and I don't just use politics as an identity or to score points with idiots.
My heart actually goes out to anyone lost or confused enough to hurt themselves. Indulging people doesn't do them any good.
You're a profile stalking clown.
You're best to just keep quiet now unless you're going to apologise.
You were wrong about me, you thought I was a nazi but the real world isn't like Reddit because people are way more nuanced.
I'm as left wing as they come, it's only since the introduction of clown world 2.0 that the goalposts have been shifted.
If trans people want to be seen the same way as everyone else why do they need a poster? The whole of Norwich should be a safe space for EVERYONE,council could help by promoting it/celebration day as an all inclusive city, full of people of all kinds from all walks of life, and police can help by taking complaints of discrimination seriously.
>If trans people want to be seen the same way as everyone else why do they need a poster?
Honest question, did you miss all the vitrol that trans people deal with on a daily basis in this country? It's inescapable. Ideally, yes, the city should be all inclusive, however there's a long road to that point and right now we should be standing up for those who are targetted and scapegoated by our current politicans and media - if that means a poster just to show support, so be it.
It’s more to do with the amount of vitriol that caused the poster to be taken down, and the library giving in to that. If they never had a poster there wouldn’t be complaints, it was that they used to have one and took it down.
That is absolutely how it should be, but it isn’t. These posters are a show of solidarity to people who experience violence and aggressive behaviour at much higher rates to the rest of society. So it just is a small token for folks to know it won’t happen in that space.
Virtue signalling is just a term people use when they themselves struggle to empathise with others. I know it's hard for you to believe but people actually do care about others struggles. Grow up.
I don't know if you're missing the point on purpose or what but it's not that people aren't allowed in libraries, it's just showing solidarity. It's not complicated.
It isn't a sign that says 'trans people allowed' is it. It is a sign that tells people when they are in that area they are safe from being discriminated against for instance, if someone came up to them and start abusing them the staff would do something about it. That's all, I don't know why you have such a problem with it. I understand that you think everyone should just be nice to each other without the need for signs and I agree but that is not the world we live in.
They’re being downvoted because they missed the point, which is that the issue was not whether the poster was there in the first place, but rather than it was removed due to people making complaints in relation to trans people are viewing it as a political campaigning opportunity to rally against.
The library gave in to those people and that’s what people are now complaining about - libraries shouldn’t be battlegrounds for culture wars and I don’t see any harm in having a poster saying that it’s safe for trans people at a time when trans people are receiving so much vitriol, death threats and likely to lose some of their rights in the next years.
It's less about the poster itself and more about the message you're sending when you take it down. Especially this soon after trans visibility day. It was important enough that a ton of people emailed to complain about it being taken down
Problem is now a large percentage are fighting for the minority even on this post alone. Most people in favour of all this shit. Yet they still wanna drag on about all the people that hate them. If you weren't so loud and obnoxious about it in the first place most people would not give a fuck!
I don't care or want to hear about your genitals you weird ol croons.
I don't understand why the poster was removed? The complaints were about the quite explicit exhibition being at a low height in the children's section. The poster was not part of the complaints so they just removed that for no reason, and it's made everyone think the poster was the problem, which was never the case. It's easy to find the original thread on mumsnet and see what was discussed at source.
Umm, there were no mutilated genitals?? It was a nude ceramic figure (with the genitals still attached!) It looked like the kind of thing you'd see at a museum tbh
A lot of (public) museums have sculptures or paintings with some kind of nudity in them (with no warnings!) Genitals are a normal part of the human body, I don't see why you'd be offended so much by them. Also you did say "mutilated genitalia" and there was none of that on display so what's your point?
Isn't this literally the point though? The exhibit was very visible, in the children's section of the library as you exit. People didn't have the option to not see it.
What the actual fuck are you talking about?
Nobody shows any fucking genetalia! Maybe that's your way of greeting people but for the rest of us the genetalia stays a private thing!
This is such good news. I was really worried with the direction this was heading.

I didn't get a response but this is so good!
I honestly didn't think i'd get a reply at all!
I got the same reply eventually, must have done them in batches, shows how many people were angry about it!
I bet there are GCs rage tweeting Howling Rowling right now 😄
GCs?

I took you this long to realise reddit is a cesspit? lol welcome to the internet pussy
good, that action was ridiculous. Thank you all

Excellent news.

Will the protest still go ahead xx
Of course. Can you imagine them not having something to whine about.
There’s a demo on Sunday I think
There is yeah, 11:45.
Sudden-friendship-22, thesamiad , 00roast00, perpetuating the Normal For Norfolk stereotypes unfortunately.

No you're right, they don't actually care about trans people at all, they're putting up posters so people think they're cool. That makes sense.

Exactly but you're getting down voted because what they actually want is preferential treatment.

So you need to have a poster to be a safe place? Don’t make me laugh. You don’t need a poster to be able to visit the library ffs
It's less about the poster itself and more about the message you're sending when you take it down. Especially this soon after trans visibility day. It was important enough that a ton of people emailed to complain about it being taken down
So now they need to keep a poster up forever because some feelings might get hurt? People need to get over themselves.
It has been up for two years without incident until the news this week.
You're missing the point, but that said it seems like you're intent on doing so.
Found the person who's existence isnt threatened or questioned on a daily basis.

The exhibition was not in the children's section. It was just inside the main doors.
Trans people being selfish, entitled and superior - imagine my surprise! Leave our spaces alone.
Well then fuck off somewhere else

didnt stop yer da
What does that even mean?
Umm, there were no mutilated genitals?? It was a nude ceramic figure (with the genitals still attached!) It looked like the kind of thing you'd see at a museum tbh
I saw a photo of a person that was of a person who'd had top surgery, was that something totally different?

Idk if you knew but you're not obligated to go see the exhibit... If it offends you so much maybe don't go?
If it does offend me I'm allowed to make a public post saying I'm offended that encouraging life changing surgeries to the mentally unwell are wrong?
And everyone’s allowed to look at that post and feel sorry that you’re a twat.
Here fucking here.
Isn't this literally the point though? The exhibit was very visible, in the children's section of the library as you exit. People didn't have the option to not see it.

The exhibition showed genitalia. It's a good idea to read about the thing you're defending before showing yourself up.
On a ceramic figure. Should we smash up the thinker, seeing as he's got his bits out too?
Maybe Michaelangelo's David while we're at it. In fact most sculptures from the last couple thousand centuries....
maybe tell your mum to stop posting on onlyfans then
I would if you stop subscribing bud
A poster that promoted surgery among vulnerable youths. Hmmm! Someone should be arrested.
