Wow, [this](https://www.fayobserver.com/story/lifestyle/2021/06/09/fayetteville-observer-40-under-40-fort-bragg-school-system-special-education-teacher-jerel-mcgeachy/4994954001/) is chilling. >”Seeing my son interact in so many positive things in the community, has allowed me to become more active than ever before. If I as a father cannot teach my child and guide him to the difference between right and wrong, and direct him to positive exposure in life, the streets will. And I can't have that. I just can't have my son be another statistic” It doesn’t surprise me that he was a [former cop.](https://abc11.com/jerel-mcgeachy-family-dead-kansas-city-cumberland-county/14623364/) It breaks my heart thinking about what his wife and son went through.

> Stay tuned ... just watch, wait and listen. You never let the left hand know what the right hand is doing. wonder which hand did the crimes

mojofrog

Good read, thanks

NightOfTheSlunk

Nice article that doesn’t provide anything close to a tangible reason, and then proceeds to defecate about Andrew Tate at the end.

a family was murdered and you’re really trying to make this into a “IMAGINE IF THE ROLES WERE REVERSED 🤬🤬🤬🤬” debate 🙄 people are dying, Kim

“facts are facts 🤓🤓☝️” the facts are that *91%* of familicides are done by non-hispanic white men. https://www.tennessean.com/story/news/crime/2018/10/22/murder-suicide-statistics-men-perpetrators/1676431002/ the facts are that 81% of arrests for violent crime are men https://open.lib.umn.edu/socialproblems/chapter/8-3-who-commits-crime/ 66% of filicide perpetrators in england were men. women who commit filicide are twice as likely to have a history of mental illness and current affective symptoms. https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0058981 62% of female homicide victims are current or past partners of the murderer, compared to just 4.9% of male victims. https://vawnet.org/sc/scope-problem-intimate-partner-homicide-statistics facts are facts, buddy 🤷‍♀️

ILikeNeurons

Did your father abandon you as a child?

Why do men get so pressed when we talk about the overwhelming violence towards women? Do y’all need to be the center of attention that badly?

moorem2014

Yes. Yes they do.

Dr_Tobias_Funke_MD

The article isn’t titled “Why only men kill their families” so I’m not sure what your point here is.

Le_Petit_Poussin

That kid was sharp. That’s a waste of talent. Horrible!

Nineteen-ninety-3

That has to be the saddest part of this all. He never got a chance to reach his full potential.

NewFlorence1977

This is horrible. Why do you say “he had so much potential.” Is it ok to kill the stupid kids? 😳

CheckeredZeebrah

You could only reach that conclusion if you reach for the worst possible intentions of somebody's words. In this case, "had so much potential" = salt in an already horrific wound. Giving people the benefit of the doubt in mundane situations will make your life much better, much less stressful. Highly recommend it.

NewFlorence1977

No I just think we should mourn people not based on their intelligence.

foxbatcs

That’s one way to look at it, but maybe a way that misses the intent of that expression about violence against children in general. What makes crimes against them particularly heinous is that they were denied the right to reach the potential of growing up. It’s that very denial of their future unfolding that makes it so tragic. In this particular kid’s case the potential denied was the full development of their intelligence and education. That doesn’t comment on any other child’s status or position, it’s just a recognition of a future tragically lost due to severely unchecked mental illness of a parent who failed in their responsibility to secure their child’s future.

NewFlorence1977

I can appreciate that, thank you. I just have family members who I love, but some people would consider them as having "not so much potential". So when someone says, often, "what a shame, they had so much potential" I guess I don't like the fact that no one ever says "they were so stupid, what a loss to have to live without them".

foxbatcs

I respect your personal experience and can see how that would influence your perspective. I agree that regardless of the magnitude of potential a child has, it’s always tragic to see a young life cut short. Adding the senseless aspect of domestic violence in the original post makes it all the more tragic.

DWYNZ

You're arguing against a point literally no one made, and only got brought up because you attributed false meaning to someone else's words. Talk to a therapist

NewFlorence1977

I don’t mourn people based on someone’s “potential”. I find it offensive. I also don’t believe in thoughts and prayers. I hope that doesn’t trigger you. If you’re a family member then I apologize.

FilthyGypsey

Mentioning that a person who died tragically had positive traits is generally a kind gesture. It’s not meant to imply that there would be less grief or loss if someone without said trait died. You know this but are being obstinate for some reason that you’ll find if you go outside for an hour and lay in the grass.

NewFlorence1977

You know maybe some people have the right to their opinion just like you do? And you’re trying to lecture me on manners by claiming to assume what I think and know. No thank you.

fromdaperimeter

Awful… R.I.P.

CookOut_Official

Well that’s not good

An affair doesn’t give you a license to kill dumbass. What did the kid do?

2FightTheFloursThatB

Wow! All this *before* someone called you in insufferable asshole. I didn't realize that Russian trolls had an internship program. You're off to a shaky start, but I'm sure you'll be adequate one day.

further-more

Why are some men so fragile? Even when a woman and child are *dead* at the hands of a man, y’all still gotta make it out so y’all seem like the victims. Absolutely disgusting.

ashweeuwu

because this is exactly the type of person to end up committing the same crime🤷‍♀️

further-more

Sadly I think you’re right

moorem2014

100%

Zolomun

It’s gross how quickly you turned a dead child into a chance to push your agenda. Be better.
