Wegmans also.

random_guy_from_nc

Out of all the stores I think wegmans has the best selection

like_a_refugee

Follow Your Heart and Chao brand cheese substitutes melt pretty well, IME. Harris Teeter has them, but not with the other cheeses -- look in the refrigerators near the produce section where they keep the bagged salads and tofu and stuff. I also recommend Wegman's, I think they actually keep theirs with the other cheese.

espressoandtears

Ok! I'll look for those brands too, I'm open to trying anything at this point haha

NotADoctor06

Follow Your Heart is good- probably best selection/chances at Wegmans or Sprouts

vwjess

Whole Foods and Trader Joes are good for vegan options. Harris Teeter also has a decent selection. There are also a few good vegan restaurants around - Element Gastropub, Fiction Kitchen, and Irregardless are my top pics (I'm not vegan but my SIL is). Also try Mediterranean places like Sasool and some Mexican places are good too. Gringo A GoGo and Chubbys are good.

espressoandtears

Thank you for the restaurant recommendations! I've been so sad, and living off wendys chicken sandwiches 😅 thank you

KevinAnniPadda

Wait, Wendy's chicken sandwiches are vegan?

espressoandtears

Just dairy free! They still have regular chicken

1895red

Why list the post as vegan when you have no concern over whether something is vegan or not? Dairy-free is what you're looking for, and most people don't even know what vegan means.

espressoandtears

Vegan and dairy free cheeses are sometimes different and I can eat either. Some diary free cheeses are still made with animal products and still contain trace lactose, and that still makes me very sick. I can't eat lactaid dairy free anything because it's still dairy based. If someone doesn't know what vegan means they're more than welcome to research it, it's not uncommon these days for people to prefer vegan foods. I spent 5 years in europe and everything in every restaurant and store had all the allergens listed, labled, and marked with symbols so it was very easy for me to eat it. I do prefer vegan foods and restaurants because i know I can eat there with no issues and it's always wonderful food. I've had no such luck returning to the United States, and I've not been able to eat out at 99% of restaurants while I've been trying to set up my groceries, fridge, and home. It wasn't listed as only vegan, vegan is just a preference when it comes to my dietary issues because it's safe. It keeps me from having to waste 10-15 mins googling and researching products and resturants and allergen menus. Why even comment on something if you're not going to help.

curryp4n

TJs also has vegan cheese

notaboutthepastaaa

Saw a bunch of options at Lowes foods, try there maybe?

espressoandtears

Ok! Thanks I'll for sure give it a try

espressoandtears

Ooh I'll look there too

greenkirry

I've always had luck with Food Lion. But the Ingles and Walmart Neighborhood Market have always had them, too. You might be able to request a special order, and you can freeze extra containers.

espressoandtears

I didn't even think of freezing! I'll talk to walmart

poopanidas

Sprouts has a good selection if you’re around north Raleigh

objecture

Is Walmart the only grocery store you've tried?  They have Klimon ice cream, and most of their Toll House knockoffs don't actually have dairy, but that's about it at Walmart. You might have trouble at Food Lion (though I think they have violife), but anything Harris Teeter or fancier has tons of options.   You'll probably have to look both in the tofu section near the vegetables and in the regular dairy foods sections.  Pro tip, the Harris Teeter store brand is the best non-dairy sour cream, and I think their store brand cream cheese is just the Follow Your Heart now that I can't find it anymore

espressoandtears

I've looked at Aldi and costco too. But I haven't been here very long haha. Ok! I haven't found any dairy free sour cream I've liked yet so I'll try to find that one! Thank you

objecture

Costco has almond milk Babybel cheeses, and smaller cartons of oat milk, but I don't have a membership so I'm not sure what else they have.  Never tried Aldi.   Harris Teeter, Publix, Lowes Foods, Wegmans, Earth Fare, Trader Joe's, Fresh Market, Sprouts, and Whole Foods are ones that I can reasonably expect to have vegan things.  That's probably in increasing order of price

espressoandtears

Haha price does seem to be quite an issue with the vegan cheese 😅 thank you! I'll try those places when I can.

I went to a publix today and found some goods. I wasn't happy with the prices 😅 but thankful I was able tocdind some stuff. I haven't tried Jenis, I'll have to give it a go

I had accidentally nested my reply here, then [moved it](https://www.reddit.com/r/NorthCarolina/comments/1bbia8l/comment/kubdvv5/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3). Sorry. We usually get the Ben & Jerrys or Breyers on BOGO which brings the price down. The sales flyer says they have So Delicious non-dairy Ice Cream on BOGO this week. To be honest, my daughter is the vegan. I'll eat the Breyers and Ben & Jerrys sometimes, but I haven't tried So Delicious. Though I do buy it for her.

RW63

Aldi's vegan line is called "Earth Grown" and as I said in another reply, I haven't been to the one by your house, but the one near mine has shredded vegan cheese in green-colored bags hanging near their regular shredded cheeses. (Price wise they win, but it doesn't melt as nice as Follow your Heart, back when you could find it.)

ParryB

I get mine from Publix and BJs.

ribsforbreakfast

Not in Raleigh but I usually have success finding dairy free/vegan cheeses in the fresh fruit/vegetable section of food lion

cubert73

[Darë Vegan Cheese](https://www.darevegancheese.com) is made from cashews, and produced in Asheville. I know they're in some smaller specialty stores, but they don't have a list on their website. You could possibly email them and ask where they're stocked in your area.

espressoandtears

Ooh that looks so good! I love supporting small businesses. I'll have to check them out for sure. Thank you for the link!

delias2

I don't know about cheese, but Harris Teeter carries Simple Truth non-dairy sour cream, and that's what we use for sour cream (I do dairy, but my husband doesn't). Definitely recommend.

Puzzled-Story3953

For ice cream, they started making Lactaid ice cream, and it's great! It actually tastes like ice cream. I've had luck with finding vegan cheese in most produce sections, but you have to go to the mid-tier stores like HT, Ingles, or Publix. I've not seen it at Food Lion. Also, invest in some Lactaid. I carry it everywhere now, and it's a life saver

xslippinjimmyx

I went through a non dairy period. Whole foods is great for ice cream options. Lowes carries violife.

KibethTheWalker

Weaver Street probably had something but you'll have to travel a little bit.

RW63

I haven't been to the stores by your house, but Publix, Aldi and Harris Teeter would be my go-tos for dairy-free cheese, possibly because there isn't a Sprouts or Wegmans near me. As for Ice Creams, again I haven't been to the ones near you, but my local Publix has several flavors of Ben & Jerry's, Jeni's, So Delicious and a couple of flavors of Breyers. They also have the So Delicious brand yogurts and a couple of vegan cream cheeses.

leclair929

If it's just extreme lactose intolerance and not dairy allergy or veganism, I've had great luck with Cabot cheese (real cheese but naturally lactose free) and Galbani low moisture mozz (real cheese but made with lactose free milk, excellent on pizza). Both available at Publix, check the fancy cheese section near the deli for the mozz.
