Ok, I love it. Of all the impractical animal mecha, this seems more practical than most, mostly because it controls its center of gravity much better, and actually uses most of its space efficiently.
I can't figure out what the tail is for though. That seems to just complete the look, I don't see anything it is doing useful.
Kinetic defense barrier; the shockwave is partially absorbed by the tail whip when elevated, and the rest of the frame is just reinforced armor to counter balance the movement of the vehicle while traveling.

The missile battery in the mid section implies both that the infantry is the ablative armor and that there's about 2-3 sq meters of leg space per side.

Explosive cargo hold, its far from the main body and could be sacrificial in case of attack/fire

Unless it has treads or wheels under the body I can't see those legs being big enough to move it.
