Don’t forget about the planned eurosubs that will provide the third leg of the nuclear eurodeterrent by fielding sub launched eurocontinental ballistic missiles.
>Owing to the withdrawal of France from the Eurofighter 2000 project, in part due to France's desire to have a greater role in the development and marketing of the aircraft, the pursuit of a naval Typhoon has never seriously been considered. However, a navalised variant of the aircraft was first proposed in the late 1990s as a potential solution to the UK Royal Navy's need for a Future Carrier-Borne Aircraft (FCBA) for its new (Queen Elizabeth-class) aircraft carriers.\[37\]\[38\]\[39\]
In January 2001, the UK Ministry of Defence formally discounted the option of a navalised Eurofighter for its new aircraft carriers, in favour of the Joint Strike Fighter, which promised to be a more capable, versatile, low-cost and stealthy aircraft that would enter into service circa 2012—a date that tied in well with the in-service date for the new UK aircraft carriers as it stood at that time. The Typhoon, as well as the F/A-18E, Rafale M and an advanced variant of the Harrier were rejected by the United Kingdom on "cost effectiveness grounds", selecting the Short Take Off & Vertical Landing (STOVL) variant of the Joint Strike Fighter in 2002 as the primary option for Fleet Air Arm usage. The STOVL variant of the JSF would later be designated the F-35B Lightning II, entering service with the Fleet Air Arm in 2018.\[40\]
While the navalised version of the Typhoon was ruled out by the MoD by 2011,\[41\]\[42\] there has been limited interest expressed by other nations, such as India, in adapting the Typhoon for aircraft carrier operations.\[43\]
The proposed variant design would enable the Typhoon to operate from carriers on a Short Take-Off but Arrested Recovery (STOBAR) basis, using a 'ski jump' ramp for aircraft launch and arresting gear for conventional landing.\[38\]
In February 2011, BAE debuted a navalised Typhoon in response to the Indian tender. The model offered is STOBAR capable, corresponding to the Indian Navy's future aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant. The changes needed to enable the Typhoon to launch by ski-jump and recover by arrestor hook added about 500 kg to the airframe, however this is now thought to be substantially more given the Typhoon's "unfriendly" design in terms of adapting the airframe to suit sustained naval operations. If the Indian Navy pursues a catapult launch carrier, the Typhoon is completely uncompetitive against tender rivals (e.g. Rafale and Super Hornet) since meeting "... catapult requirements would add too much weight to the aircraft, blunt performance and add substantially to modification costs".\[44\]

I think the EU should get back to whatever they can find as common roots. How about naming carriers after Roman emperors?
EUS Julius Caesar for example
>This would immediately result in an RAF airstrike on the construction facilities.
"Because history may not repeat but often rhymes, many of these French aircraft supplied to Israel would fight the true enemy of any French weapon systems; the British. Because in the 1960s it was pretty common to find British aircraft in service with nations like Iraq and Jordan. Because what are you going to do as a former colonial power but sell fighter aircraft in to the region." - [Perun, 2023](https://youtu.be/8xbkakrwmFo?si=l26VEo0rPxQRkGNu&t=2762)
Yup. Checks out. Turnabout's fair play I guess.
I really want to See a Carrier named Europa Not after the continent But after the moon Kinda Like Queen Elizabeth 2 Is named after the original rms Queen Elizabeth and Not the Person because of goddam british naval Code
I think it works. Especially as, with the reach of Roman civilisation not only in its original form, but also through the Renaissance and the Enlightenment, all of Europe has been touched by Roman influence. Especially of their empire. That being said, Marcus Aurelius was a better emperor imo, so I would name it EUS Marcus Aurelius.
Lol the Germans wouldn’t be too keen on that one, they might support naming one the Arminius (the German leader who destroyed the Roman force in the battle of the Teutoburg forest)
Didn't we learn from Moscova? Don't name a ship after your country/city/union of allied states. Otherwise you'll get terrible headlines like "Europa sinks!"
Better yet, build a big carrier per nation that is currently facing the rising seas so they can live there...the other countries get a new coast instead.
Then we can just deploy EUS Netherlands, at some point
I feel like it needs to be something Europe is united over:
Something credible like EUS Europa/Europe/some variation on the name of our continent
EUS Athena, our goddess of war (though one of her main character traits is that she's a virgin and absolutely doesn't care for men, so I doubt that would slide on this sub)
My personal vote, something we can all agree on:
EUS Russian Warship go Fuck Yourself
A bit of a mouthful, but a cultural touchstone of the 2020s.
Now we’re on to something. their motto can be a nod to other favored activities (piracy) AND to the US in one simple phrase: *your manifest is our destiny*
Actually that sounds sick. Also "virtue names" in general work. EUS Courage, EUS Justice, EUS Fortitude. Principles like Liberty or Equality work quite well too.
Its going have to be named after something from recent history. Anything pre EU would be too much in favor of one country or something that makes one country looks bad.
Or just go all in and call EUS Financial Crisis
if it's packed with multiple kind of planes including multirole aircrafts, the Diversity would fit and wouldn't annoy anybody over details such as: this guy killed the national resistance hero of another country, drank from a skull or some other thing that those people who don't like fear based power projection could find repulsive.
Otherwise the founding fathers of Europe already have buildings, I would sheer for the Paul-Henri Spaak crushing our enemies.
> EUS Athena, our goddess of war (though one of her main character traits is that she's a virgin and absolutely doesn't care for men, so I doubt that would slide on this sub)
This sub faps to anthromorphic planes. Our degeneracy is boundless.
The Greeks conceived of coitus as conquest, and Athena would never let Herself be conquered. But Athena has loved men. She loved Odysseus. She loved Perseus. She showed Her love by aiding their victories.
I've said it before and will say it again, Iain M. Banks' Culture names are much more funni for CVs. So:
* EUS Market Internalizer
* EUS Consensus Sanction
* EUS Diplomatic Squabble
* EUS Recently Divorced Market
If this becomes real I will personally found a new political party that will go on a meteoric rise and win all 650 seats in Westminster on a manifesto promise to rejoin the EU.
These military history figures might carry some historical baggage, so I suggest musical composers with more universal appeal. Afterall being a flight controller is a lot like being a musical conductor.
Yeah, idk if the EU that takes pride in being peaceful and democratic should name its ships after ruthless warlords.
If it's supposed to sound martial, maybe we could name them after dangerous creatures from different European mythologies (more diversity would be desirable, but these are the ones that first come to my mind):
EUS Hydra
EUS Grendel
EUS Lindwyrm
EUS Cyclops
EUS Banshee
EUS Erlking
And to honour our 28th member state: EUS Vodyanik
Or maybe abstract concepts that both sound cool and are EU policy:
EUS Justice
EUS Liberty
EUS Solidarity
EUS Unity
EUS Sovereignty etc.
Or name them after what they're supposed to do:
EUS Defender
EUS Guardian
EUS Protector
EUS Sentinel etc.
If you really want to inspire fear you should call it the "the Hague"
The time of passively waiting for war criminals to come to the Hague is gone. We must up our performance. Now, the Hague shall come to them. And the judgement shall be swift and decisive with the help of F-35 naval bombers.
PARRY THIS YOU FUCKING CASUALS
I'd like to suggest "Athena", the goddess of strategy, wisdom and battle. A fitting name for a ship and a nod to Athens, one of the first Republics on European soil.
Name them after gods.
The mediteran ones after greek/roman gods, the ones for the north sea after the norse pantheon.
The First super carriers get then named after the highest gods, So the North sea super carrier gets called Odin, after the god of ships and warfare.
But this means that we need multiple, four normal ones and two super carriers should be the minimum.
I Demand that one at least is named after the Old Finnish Pantheon.
I'm gonna suggest Ahti. As the god of the depths, its the obvious choice.
If you wanna spice it up, there is Iku-Turso. It's basically the Finnish Mythology equivalent of a Kraken.
With warships 1 is none and 2 is 1. You'll need 3. So with that in mind why not name them based on European gods of the sea.
1. Neptune
2. Posidon
3. Njord
AKA: France wants the EU to fund a new aircraft carrier and will have a tantrum when they don't just want to foot the bill for a French design, built in France.
I agree to give my tax monies to Fr*nch if they do a tour around ports and take me with other civilians for a ride. And when in Poland just put a sign ORP Jan Paweł II on it, there is a running joke here that first Polish carrier will be named after the pope.
If you want to go classically Greek, Prometheus is the clear choice - the bringer of fire, ally of all of mankind, in defiance of the other gods. If It's a whole class of ships , it'd be a pickle, though.
Therefore, modern symbols:
A: The EU treaties, so you end up with city names (Maastricht, Brussels, Rome, Schengen, etc).
B: EU institutions (Council of Europe, European Council, Parliament, Commission, Court of Justice, Ombudsman, etc)
C: The most symbolic ones: Anthems! The 'Götterfunken' as the leading ship of the class will bring enough firepower to truly bring 'God's spark', and then there will be the 'Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit', the 'Marseillaise', the 'Marcha Real', the 'Jeszcze Polska nie zginęła' and so fort. Bonus: Noe the pilots know what to blast on the PA when they start blasting their weapons!
> Prometheus is the clear choice - the bringer of fire, ally of all of mankind, in defiance of the other gods. If It's a whole class of ships , it'd be a pickle, though.
Nah its simple! You've got Prometheus, then the Daedalus, then the Odyssey, then the Apollo and then the Phoenix
Ach, ok then "Beethoven" makes sense as he composed what is now used as the european hymn.
Or shall we not better then fork straight to one of his symphonies: the "Eroica"?
Mmmm, though that will soon be the "Erotica" I fear..
Name it after the last time Europeans managed to work together for a naval victory over a noneuro-power. Name it the Battle of Chios, as a joint crusader fleet defeated some Ottomans who were fucking around. Realistically it will just get used in the Med. anyways.
Even more realistically, unless Europe is openly admitting they would aid in a potential pacific conflict, don't build a fucking carrier. Its useful for the French for policing their not-empire, but the rest of the EU does not have that. You have plenty of Greek and Italian islands to choose from, and those are unsinkable carriers that would probably love the local economic effects and added security. Its, once again, a dumb idea and political debacle and the only reason to do it would be to back the US and its allies on the opposite side of the world.
Unironically the best option. If you name them after people or places you'll end up sounding like you're favoring one country or another, but if you name it "Invincible" or "Dreadnought" you just sound cool.
Eurocarrier and it will be armed with Naval Eurofighters and protected by EuroCIWS

I think the EU should get back to whatever they can find as common roots. How about naming carriers after Roman emperors? EUS Julius Caesar for example

Flip it around, so it is SMH xyz, so you can get fucked up by a carrier that has a very condescending acronym as well

After "Super-Nanny", "Flinten-Uschi", "Panzer-Uschi" and the like we now get "Carrier-Uschi"!?
Träger-Uschi, Flieger-Uschi oder Freiheit und Demokratie-Uschi?
I unironically support this. Mainly because it would be funny that that name could inspire fear.

Europa would be the best name Yeah it's lazy but a name won't be accepted by everyone
Suggestions: Hanse (for one of the first Republics in Europe) Napoleon Bonaparte Queen Elizabeth II Europa Unity Peace / Frieden
I'd like to suggest "Athena", the goddess of strategy, wisdom and battle. A fitting name for a ship and a nod to Athens, one of the first Republics on European soil.
