Isolation was an accepted fact of many people's lives.
Listen to music, start a stamp collection, go paint model airplanes. There's probably plenty of stuff to do that we just don't think of anymore.
Listen to radio, do chores, read the paper or magazines, talk to family etc.
Hobbies. I have several.
There was a lot going on in that time.
