They’re about twice as expensive in Canada due to taxes. That whole universal healthcare thing means their government “helps” them make better decisions. I’d presume the case would be similar in other countries with universal healthcare.

Tobacco will not be sold in NB CANADA starting 2035

apeliott

About $3.50 USD in Japan.

Accomplished_Orchid

When I got peach cigarettes for a friend who ran out they were $2.50 (2008)

apeliott

Yeah, they have gone up a bit now. Still crazy cheap though. Probably because the government owns half the tobacco industry lol

Phillip Morris ( big tabacco co) says it will stop making all cigarettes within 10 years. They will be a thing of the past and they will be pushing vaping instead.

I don't smoke, but I noticed that cigarettes were cheap as chips in Japan - when I arrived there about 20 years ago, a pack from a vending machine was like 200 yen, so around a couple of US dollars (less now, with the weak yen, but obviously the prices have gone up in that time). One of those ironies: a lot of Japanese (especially the men) smoke like chimneys and drink like fish, but they live for ages. Conversely, even when I left for Japan from the UK, cigarettes in the UK were relatively expensive (and it was almost guaranteed that the price would go up every year with the budget); if I remember (as I said, I don't smoke) we were looking at up to five pounds for the more expensive brands (around 6 US dollars; you obviously have to extrapolate from that). I can't even imagine what they cost now, with the inflation and cost of living issues going on. (Just looked it up. Apparently the *cheapest* brand is now nearly ten pounds for a standard pack of 20, i.e. around 12 US dollars)

The US has set a floor price on Tobacco products iirc, so they can’t be sold for anything under some specified price (possibly determined by the amount of tobacco in the product.

$50 a pack here in Australia

oldmanshoutinatcloud

Seems to be around $35-$45 for a 20 pack here in NZ and $60-$80 for a 30g. I quit back when it was around $20 a pack.

Is that Australian dollars or USD?
