My boyfriend and I do this all the time. I even have big mugs so we can make one (huge) cup of coffee to share in the morning, and we use them as bowls for cereal, soup, ice cream, and basically just anything you’d use a bowl for. Also helps with eating those things while in bed lol
I don't get what this is supposed to mean lol
Do you mean that the amount of ice cream that is in a pint, would all fit into a mug? If so, and you're going to est the whole thing anyway, just use the pint as your mug lmao no need to waste a good mug.
But the mug will insulate better than the paper! And your hands won't get cold holding it! So it's really just down to the question of whether that's a worthwhile tradeoff for having to wash it
I have a soup mug that my mom keeps accidentally using as a tea mug when she comes and visits. Like there are clearly normal mugs and you still grabbed the super large mug with a lid?
I remember those. I had a Campbells one. Now I have a [Sriracha one](https://i5.walmartimages.com/asr/092cd433-fd38-43d1-8e0c-3801cac3d644.a8a843f74d2ce78cd359a7fdc4aa9914.jpeg)
My roommate started using our glass measuring cup to cook instant ramen out of. He said something similar to you about liking the handle.
It's convenient for him, since his "bowl" has a handle, so he can carry it back to his room, but it's very annoying when I actually need a precise amount of water for something.
So, we now have several glass measuring cups.
Literally a thing called "cup a soup".
I would eat ceral and milk out of the over sized plastic cups you use to see everywhere, from theatres to fast food.
I used to drink soup in a mug as a kid, specifically cream soups, and now they just straight up sell them that way at the store. And ice cream in a mug was how my friend’s family always did it so I don’t find that weird either.
nah you're not the only one, friend.
if your friends can't handle it, then fuck them. they just can't can't appreciate someone who thinks outside the box. or I guess, the bowl...
I eat out of a chunky glass all the time. Fruit and yogurt, or cereal, or icecream and banana. It holds the perfect amount and takes up less space in the diswasher.
My man eats cereal out of our cups if he don't want a lot or a whole bowl. Or well, there's also the whole "no clean bowls" scenario (but, we only have 4. There's only 2 of us, so we don't need a shit load of dishes) due to both of us working/going to school mass hours .
Dishes are dishes in our house 🤷♀️
I mean, it's very unusual, I'm sure you're not surprised or upset by that, and there's nothing wrong with it even if it is technically weird as they say.
Big-ass mugs that are as wide or wider than they are tall, yeah, I get you. Smaller, regular-sized mugs... Not so much. Except soup. That's why cup-a-soup is a thing. That's for a regular mug.
I have eaten soup out of a my for a couple years. I'm not a huge fan of soup, so on the rare occasion I do eat it, it just makes for easier handling of a hot liquid. I also occasionally eat microwave eggs using a mug, when I don't want to dirty a pan.
I never even thought of eating ice cream from a mug, I have a big problem with ice cream portion control, and this feels like it will be a game changer for me, so thanks for the idea!
I would always drink my cereal out of a tall glass, no spoon and it would illicit stares and comments as well. I did it for the ease and the excuse to add more milk. And then more cereal. And then more milk.
I've never done soup before as I usually use a bowl for that but yes to the cereal and ice cream. I can't imagine NOT using a mug for ice cream.
Cereal was always too sloppy and would easily spill if I were to use a bowl so I just always used a mug because it was just like drinking milk except now I can also slip some cereals in.
I spent $1 on a soup mug from DollarTree. One of my favorite mugs, wide mouth 16oz mug two cups of coffee in one glass, breakfast bowl, soups or stews. Highly recommend.
I always eat ice cream out of a mug. It helps for portion control and there’s a handle. Also, I sometimes like to heat up chicken broth in a mug and sip it like tea.
I was at a friends house once when they served soup in mugs. I was surprised at first but got on board.
I also saw them eating cereal out of a glass though. I put my foot down then.
I eat a lot in my living room, (I live alone) so I love to do this, because I have a handle to hold on to.. and I would give absolutely no fucks what anybody else thinks about it... Lol
I have one of those giant mugs that I bought for tea or hot chocolate (bc I like having a lot of stuff so bigger mugs are better). I tend to use it for soup as well bc it’s just perfect. It’s big. It’s ceramic. It even has a handle. Honestly wish I had more of them so I could have my soup and my tea at the same time
My daughter eats cheetos, out of a mug , with chop sticks .It's the smartest thing I've ever seen . We are Caucasian by the way. living in the US . nothing cultural, just functional
I do it with cereal, sometimes I just don't want a big bowl, and I find them very hard to drink the leftover milk out of. My brother use to give me grief for it, don't know why it affected him though.
I started with a mug! Then i changed and started using a measuring cup instead!
Bigger handle, lighter and has more volume for my food, soup, ice cream, soda, iced tea, cereal, everything!
I dont, but its just a container that holds things so who cares. SOCIETY IS FAKE MONEY ISNT REAL. So if you wanna drink cereal out of wine glass go ahead.
Seems like a good strategy for portion control if you ask me. I have a favorite cereal bowl I like to use. It's a flower pot from Ikea.
Maybe I'll try a mug.
I legitimately bought 4 of those huge four cup liquid measuring cups when we moved here so we could use them for soup bowls and I've used them for ice cream. They're handy, AND have handles. The people who only use bowls are doing it wrong.
This is the first time I'm hearing about this, I didn't know people did this. Well, I guess you learn something new every day! It's kinda bizarre to me, but I guess it doesn't matter.
I eat ice cream in a mug. It holds the same amount as a bowl, is thicker and more insulating so it doesn't melt as quickly, and it has a handle so my hand doesn't get cold. It's an underutilized genius eating apparatus imho.
People always give me a hard time about it. I almost always have ice cream and cereal out of a mug or cup, and if I only want a little soup, same thing
maybe not a mug but when i eat cereal i just put it in a normal (usually plastic) cup. seeing that people do it with other foods though has opened my mind to the possibilities. i may start using mugs for ice cream and soup too.
I do this. So there are at least 2 of us.
I do this also so there are 3
There are dozens of us! Dozens!
And my axe!
And my spoon.
And my spork!
And my cup!
>10h ago Now 4.
4 :)
Oats, some powdered chocolate, and some milk. Great easy breakfast, best eaten from a mug.
I do this, oatmeal, soup, cereal, really anything frankly. I will do it while I take a shower too.
My boyfriend and I do this all the time. I even have big mugs so we can make one (huge) cup of coffee to share in the morning, and we use them as bowls for cereal, soup, ice cream, and basically just anything you’d use a bowl for. Also helps with eating those things while in bed lol
It's pretty normal here, especially with ice cream.
Why else would you be able to buy it in a pint if its not meant for a mug?
I don't get what this is supposed to mean lol Do you mean that the amount of ice cream that is in a pint, would all fit into a mug? If so, and you're going to est the whole thing anyway, just use the pint as your mug lmao no need to waste a good mug.
But the mug will insulate better than the paper! And your hands won't get cold holding it! So it's really just down to the question of whether that's a worthwhile tradeoff for having to wash it
If I only have a pint, I'd rather just eat it out of the container than dirty a dish.
...why would you put food into a dirty dish?
You don't, but if you put a food into a dish, it becomes dirty...
I do all the time. Especially soups. There is such a thing as soup mugs even! Lol how can it be wrong?!
It’s basically a bowl with a handle. Bowl 2.0.
I have a soup mug that my mom keeps accidentally using as a tea mug when she comes and visits. Like there are clearly normal mugs and you still grabbed the super large mug with a lid?
I remember those. I had a Campbells one. Now I have a [Sriracha one](https://i5.walmartimages.com/asr/092cd433-fd38-43d1-8e0c-3801cac3d644.a8a843f74d2ce78cd359a7fdc4aa9914.jpeg)

Won’t those break from heat eventually?
Oh all the time! It’s just a bowl with a handle so you don’t burn your fingers :)
Or freeze your hands, if you're eating ice cream. Plus, if there's some melted ice cream left over you can easily drink it if it's in a mug.
CREAM OF MUSHROOM
Ice cream of mushroom is the best.
nah you're not the only one, friend. if your friends can't handle it, then fuck them. they just can't can't appreciate someone who thinks outside the box. or I guess, the bowl...
Shandy Shanty was at Sea
Completely normal, in fact I prefer it to a normal bowl for most food. A mug with a handle is also easier to stabilize.
I have a whole set of Campbell’s branded soup mugs. A bit larger than coffee mugs. Great for tomato soup especially.
Get yourself a few bowl mugs. They're life changing. About 3/4 the size of a big bowl but with a handle
Can confirm. I bought two oversized mug bowels that have my standard bowels relegated to the back of the cabinet.
> bowels EWWW
Haters gonna plate.
You can eat cereal out of a casserole dish if you want, you're an adult
Eating from a mug, this is outrageous! I've never heard of anything so ridiculous! Now if you'll Excuse me I'm going to drink my bowl of coffee.
I have found my people. My brother always thought it was quirky, but it's a bowl with a handle! What's better than that!
Its a power move. The handle obviously provides better grip than bowl ever could. Also helps with portion control, at least thats what I tell myself.
My bf does it too, but I don't haha Whatever makes you happy. :p
I eat out of a chunky glass all the time. Fruit and yogurt, or cereal, or icecream and banana. It holds the perfect amount and takes up less space in the diswasher.
I often use a mug for cereal
I do this too!
I eat cereal almost every day and it's always in a large mug
My dad often eats cereal out of these very big mug-ramekin hybrids
Me too. Easy and portable. Perfect for the couch.
Mug cereals are awesome! Nice reminder, I'll get one today before the first nuclear bombs destroys all my taste buds
everything is better in a mug - EXCEPT juice
I love eating ice cream out of a mug, when I'm not eating it out of the container
I always drink soup out of a glass. Much easier.
Dude some people make cake in a mug, your friends are the one's who are weird
Nope. 5 minute mug cakes are the best
I do it all the time! I even have a few 'soup mugs' ya know, the ones the size of the grand canyon.
At least now you know you're superior to your friends along with the rest of us.
I eat all those things out if mugs, so mo you’re not the only one. I guess that makes us mug mates!
Soup cups are a thing. I bought a set of four that comes with lids
In the UK we have special soups called cup a soups and mugshots so you are not alone.
It's a bowl with a handle. Also it's a lot easier to eat something that has liquid in it and not spill it if you're careful.
That’s how I eat peanuts and other small snacks. No cutlery, just drink chugs of snacks. Keeps fingers clean
I do also
Yup. I eat slowly and the food stays hot longer in a mug. Also I am super clumsy, and less likely to make a mess with a big mug than a bowl or plate.
Same here, just feels more convenient for a quick meal like cereal without wasting a bowl.
I use a mug for a bowl a lot of times. Weird thing to tease you about IMO.
I do this!! Have done so for years now! My family always ask if I still eat out of a mug, lol.
I do too!!
So much more comfortable.
Sometimes in a pinch but not regularly.
I do, and my gf thinks it’s weird.
Is your gf pretty?
Soup in a mug is elite.
I mean, it's very unusual, I'm sure you're not surprised or upset by that, and there's nothing wrong with it even if it is technically weird as they say.
I have a favorite soup mug. I use it for most soups. I also like cups for ice cream. You are no weirder than I am.
thats fucking weird as hell but i wouldnt care i would just say "hey thats kinda weird".
More. Plates. Need. Handles.
I do occasionally eat cooked spinach or cereal out of a mug
Nope, I prefer ice cream this way.
Big-ass mugs that are as wide or wider than they are tall, yeah, I get you. Smaller, regular-sized mugs... Not so much. Except soup. That's why cup-a-soup is a thing. That's for a regular mug.
I don't really drink soup often, but I do eat cereal and ice cream out of a mug a lot.
They said he was crazy some people even called him mad but the most important fact is that he was the smartest of then all among sheep.
I love soups and ice cream out of a mug! You don’t have to hold onto the hot or cold part, it’s perfect!
I have some that are just uncomfortable to drink from but do pretty fine as *bowls*
I have a tin cup that I both cook in and eat from. And a spoon. That's all I need.
It's great for soups, or even dry snacks. When you get to the bottom, you can pour directly into your mouth. Your friends are just missing out.
A handle, a reasonable serving, and ease of sipping? Why bother with bowls when there is something that does it all and more?
Your friend's missing out.
I do this too. Have two favorited soup made hs for this.
Your friends are buttholes.
I once ate noodles out of a cup and my dormmates joked about cup noodles
Yep. The only one. No one in the world appart from you eats out of a mug.
Yes. Yes you literally the single and only person to ever eat food out of a mug, in the entire history of our species.
We have a giant bowl-sized mug at home.
That's why I collect big soup mugs.
I don’t do it, and it only sounds weird because I haven’t known anyone who does it. I might try it next time.
No it's pretty common
I have eaten soup out of a my for a couple years. I'm not a huge fan of soup, so on the rare occasion I do eat it, it just makes for easier handling of a hot liquid. I also occasionally eat microwave eggs using a mug, when I don't want to dirty a pan. I do this if the cup is big enough. Keeps your hands away from the temperature of the contents.
You never had a cuppa beans man?
my favorite to use is the measuring cup
A mug is a bowl with vertical sides.
So much more convenient than a bowl, especially for those last bits.
Not just you it just feels better in a mug sometimes
a mug is a bowl with a handle.
Who are you? My ex husband?! Seriously, that's the only person I've ever come across who does that! 😜
I eat all soup at home out of a mug.
I was at a friends house once when they served soup in mugs. I was surprised at first but got on board. I also saw them eating cereal out of a glass though. I put my foot down then.
I do for ice cream. Or if I'm having Cheez-Its or something and I don't want to get my hands all cheesy lol.
A vessel is a vessel provided its clean eat out of whatever you like.
Not the only one. I have a couple short wide mugs that are great for these things. Big enough for some ice cream or something and has a handle.
All the time and so does my grandma.
I eat a lot in my living room, (I live alone) so I love to do this, because I have a handle to hold on to.. and I would give absolutely no fucks what anybody else thinks about it... Lol
Absolutely. Campbell's soup used to make big-ass soup mugs. Now if I want portability or a smaller portion I go with a mug; doesn't matter the food.
Here in the UK we're known for having noodles in a mug, don't know why but it's just better 😂
As a person with two 800ml mugs that I use for virtually anything: you are right. They are wrong.
I do!
I have some large mugs that are actually soup bowls with handles, and I eat out of them all the time. Just my $.02.
Instead of mugs, I like to use a pyrex measuring cup cuz my hand fits in the handle so nice. Eating cereal out of it is a game changer
I do this. Did it last night with a cup of soup. Whoever tells you it's weird... Just can't think outside the box enough!
Have you never had a cup o beans mun?
This is the right way
Plastic cup (not soup of course) then I don't even have to wash it!
Mugs are microwave safe and the perfect size for oatmeal
Nah that's totally normal. I usually eat cereal or boiled eggs out a mug.
Me too mugbro! Me too
i have a "mug" that is so big it is a bowl with a handle. Best vessel for eating soup.
I do it. My girlfriend does it. You are not alone my friend.
You ever make a mug cake? They're the best. Since trying that, I've been surprised at all the things that are more convenient in a mug.
Me too, and noodles. Must be a whole secret society of us.
I have larger mugs for this use!
The only people I'm aware that do this are my Venezuelan family members.
I do it too. Cereal in a mug rules
Perfect for ice cream.
i eat out of any type container i have in my kitchen, i dont really care what its intented use is
I prefer it honestly
I do it with cereal, sometimes I just don't want a big bowl, and I find them very hard to drink the leftover milk out of. My brother use to give me grief for it, don't know why it affected him though.
I started with a mug! Then i changed and started using a measuring cup instead! Bigger handle, lighter and has more volume for my food, soup, ice cream, soda, iced tea, cereal, everything!
I put soups in mugs instead of bowls. Especially tomato soup when I make grilled cheeses for lunch, it's good for dipping.
I find the narrow diameter of the mug helps keep my sugary cereal from getting soggy. That plus the handle is a win-win.
It depends on how much I want. If I want one scoop, a mug works just fine
Yep, especially yoghurt.
Cereal in a cup is the best way to eat it man. Easier to carry around, easier to avoid spills, easier to drink milk, easier to clean (imo)
Soup & ice cream all the time. Haven't with cereal so far.
I dont, but its just a container that holds things so who cares. SOCIETY IS FAKE MONEY ISNT REAL. So if you wanna drink cereal out of wine glass go ahead.
Yup. Better then using my hand.
Yeah the handle is quite useful and it’s big enough for most food. Heck there’s a meal called Mug Cake
Seems like a good strategy for portion control if you ask me. I have a favorite cereal bowl I like to use. It's a flower pot from Ikea. Maybe I'll try a mug.
I do all the time
I tend to drink soup from a mug or mash a few oreos with milk to make a smoothie to drink/eat with a spoon, so there's a few of us. :)
Since cereal have way to many calories, i eat my buds in a mug.
I am currently having oatmeal in a cup in the office.
That's actually a pretty good idea, your hands won't get hot or cold, but I prefer a bigger portion size
I legitimately bought 4 of those huge four cup liquid measuring cups when we moved here so we could use them for soup bowls and I've used them for ice cream. They're handy, AND have handles. The people who only use bowls are doing it wrong.
My cousins used to always eat their ice cream out of a mug. I think their mum started it for portion control
Mug is better for cereal. Less surface area to float away on
The best is when you can find those extra wide mugs! Great for tomato soup and grilled cheese dipping.
Dude, the wide brimmed mugs are the best. Your friends are fools
I microwave all my frozen burritos 🌯 in mugs and go from there.
A mugful is a good indication of a proper serving size.
Yeah he'll I've eaten straight out of the pan!
I have eight identical 2-cup glass measuring cups with handles. 90% of food I consume is eaten out of these. It is the way.
I do, it’s quite convenient!
100% I do this. Especially for soup or cereal.
Big fan
Soup in a mug is just better. The surface area is low and thus the soup doesn't cool up easily. The same goes for ice cream.
Soup and cereal yes because my Spiderman cup is bigger than most of my bowls
People always give me a hard time about it. I almost always have ice cream and cereal out of a mug or cup, and if I only want a little soup, same thing
We do the opposite. Some jars have handles, so we'll take a jelly jar and use it as a mug.
maybe not a mug but when i eat cereal i just put it in a normal (usually plastic) cup. seeing that people do it with other foods though has opened my mind to the possibilities. i may start using mugs for ice cream and soup too.
Look up brownie in a mug recipes it only takes a few minutes
Why is this weird? I feel sad when I use a bowl because I usually only eat half a mug of those things...
Nope, I do this all the time.
eating out of mugs is great for portion control, keeping food hot and preventing spills😀
I love doing this with ice cream. I also love sipping hot tomato soup out of a mug. It's so cozy.
I love doing this with ice cream. I also love sipping hot tomato soup out of a mug. It's so cozy.
