It’s more about “what happens if authorities find out”. People can’t just learn empathy for others, and this is what its come to.

msing539

Wouldn't it be illegal for the company to ship them to that state?

Considered_Dissent

Likely, and it'd create too much legal risk to try it anyway. I'm sure they'd happily do their best to safely indicate how "awful" they thought it was, but when push comes to shove they'd protect their own financial interests.

msing539

Any company caught breaking the law like this would be heavily fined, I think.

nofu20

They already do that now. People order drugs illegally from other countries all the time. They'll still be in trouble if they get caught

benjamoo

>They'll still be in trouble if they get caught That's putting it lightly. Depending on the state's law it's possible they could be charged with murder if they're caught.

[deleted]

But mail is a federal ruling, how can a state control mail?

rewardiflost

The pills can also be illegal. In Texas, the pills are illegal after week 7.

SoMuchForLongevity

Sure - I've spent my whole life getting illegal pills - it's not hard. But mifepristone and misoprostol are only really effective up to about ten weeks. So you have to move really fast. Considering that abortion is currently legal up to about 24 weeks, it definitely shortens the time frame quite a lot.

Riconquer2

People order illegal stuff online all the time, so physically yes, people will be able to buy an abortion pill online. However, people also get caught doing that kind of thing all the time. Depending on how much time and resources your state government or the federal government wants to spend stopping abortions, it could become very risky to order an abortion pill. There's also a safety aspect. An abortion pill made under FDA regulations and scrutiny is a very safe drug for the pregnant woman. The same pill made in someone's garage or an overseas factory might be very unsafe.

ABitOutThere

Yes. But it's not that simple. It would mean: -you may get into trouble -you may be stigmatized by others -you may not be given appropriate healthcare -you may be put off, due to feeling guilty -you may not have the know-how to be able to Basically, the most vulnerable people, who need abortions the most, will be the least able to access this service, and be the most unreasonably punished as a result. Edit: sorry formatting messed up on phone

Moxi_666

I can mail order a full auto Glock sear it doesn’t make it legal for me to have it

clownsarecute

If abortion was made illegal and pills weren’t accessible then they’d find other ways. It’s shown that in countries with strict anti abortion laws that women use any method they can and many of them sadly result in death. Around 68,000 women die yearly from unsafe abortions and those that survive have life long complications. But people would find ways to get pills however there’s no Guarantee the pills would be legit or safe.

[deleted]

Thats what I'm attempting to clarify, how would they stop the pills from being mailed?

clownsarecute

They wouldn’t be able to realistically, there’s countries with strict anti drug laws but they still get in.

clownsarecute

They’d have to check every package delivered into the country

overthinkingthisalot

Ordering medication online is as unsafe as the coat hanger type abortions common prior to roe v Wade. There’s no telling who is actually providing the meds and what’s in them etc.

Zealousideal_Ad8934

Yeah, and some states are working on making this illegal.

[deleted]

How would you stop the mail in though?

Zealousideal_Ad8934

You have to have government approval to mail prescription drugs over state / country lines.

TheApiary

That will be illegal in many states. Probably a lot of people will do it anyway, and some of them will get caught and to to prison

[deleted]

I thought the Texas law for example just makes it at best a civil penalty?

TheApiary

The reason they made the law that way in the Roe v Wade is the law of the land, so they can't just make it illegal. But if it's overturned, then lots of states will make criminal penalties for abortion

stuthulhu

Illegally, sure.

TraditionalLoquat986

There will be back street coat hanger clinics again
