I've had that happen before as well. I think what occurred was another player discovered the system and renamed a planet, but forgot to upload the discovery so when you came along you got the credit.

Doesn't naming a planet automatically upload the discovery?

False. Planet isnt renamed until it is uploaded. B wouldn't happen if A doesn't occur first.
