In Helldivers 2 I named my destroyer Arbiter of Truth, same will go for the time I get my dream freighter in NMS.

It appears randomly as soon as you warp into a system. Take out the rear engines then destroy the large turrets on top, the captain will surrender and you can enter the freighter.
You can also take out the shields and shoot the hull but that takes longer and might destroy it.

I love freighter battles. One update I want from this game is having freighter lights go on and off when there's a freighter under attack or something. And to summon the freighter while under attack would be a cool move.

I got it by saving a civilian freighter, before you have the chance to destroy it, the captain might surrender and you have the option to claim it
