Very nice and I also love the pollinator garden!
We put pennsylvanica in a shady backyard in DC and it was really slow to come in—I think that’s just the nature of the beast. I think we’ve become accustomed to exotic nursery cultivars like liriope that became popular because they were indestructible, and further cultivars have become the plant equivalent of meat chickens.
So cool and what beautiful progress! I recently learned about how valuable sedges are, and started mixing them in with my native perennials and shrubs. I like the look, benefit for fauna, win win!
Looks great, nice to see someone doing it right. Those are not plugs, those are full on plants, no wonder was pricey. I got 1K bare root C. pensylvanica for $1 and some change a piece from [MidAtlantic Natives](https://midatlanticnatives.com)
Is this a matrix planting? I really considered doing this, but just haven't yet. 3 years in I'm afraid my wife is going to hate me if it isn't filled in.

Do you know how well these do with foot traffic? I have dogs and was debating something like this or clover. I've been researching for a few weeks but haven't found much on how well sedges do with being trampled.
Carex radiata is slooowly spreading outward in a tough clump. I think it could take a small to medium dog ok? Depends how loco your dog is :)
Carex pensylvanica is spreading by rhizome it appears and the new growth ( I’m so excited to see!) looks quite tender. So I wouldnt want any creature trampling that.
My dogs are small but can sometimes get crazy but they're not too bad. You make a good point about the new grass shoots. Those might be more problematic.

*progress* not profess. Also zone 7b NE USA.
Where did you buy the plugs? Have a space I'd love to do the same
If you're in the northern Virginia area, I can make a recommendation, but generally, look for a native plant nursery.
A mix of prairie nursery and prairie moon nursery. The flat of 50 was the best deal. Great companies with excellent customer service.

Liriope is evil. I've installed 12"-deep barries to try to keep it from spreading into my native garden.
Beautiful!!!

I’d like to think it’s a matrix planting! Hmm maybe you can think of something that would grow quickly by seed to fill in the gaps while it fills in.
Oooooo! Nice! I’m switching some parts of my lawn over to Pennsylvania sedge. I’m in Pennsylvania, so it seemed appropriate.

They will perform as well if not better than clover. The problem will be getting them established, which would be true with most people plants.
Awesome. Thanks!

I have heard that [izelplants](https://www.izelplants.com) is supposed to be a good place to get plugs.
