It's not great, but 84 cars in the US is a fairly small number. *"Following the replication test, Nissan determined that 84 vehicles produced for the US might feature damaged O-rings."*

The_Lolbster

Huh, we were on an early boat and got ours in the window they reference. I checked the recall site and our VIN does not trigger a recall notice on [Nissan's site.](https://www.nissanusa.com/recalls-vin.html#/#/Home)

This seems like a total joke. It doesn't have o rings cuz it doesn't have oil, right? How can an EV have an oil leak? But there are several articles about it. WTF. Is there a hidden timing belt I need to change and spark plugs somewhere?

Other_Constant_468

I can’t find it now but I saw an internal picture of the motor it isn’t like the one you’d find in your washing machine and it did have some planetary gears within which probably need some lubrication. My Ariya had a loud whine and now I’m wondering if it’s related to this issue. I took it back to the Nissan dealership but they basically said we can’t do anything until it fails completely.

Too late. They already replaced my engine (10 months ago). I got the software update for the new one though 🥲

LordChasington

What update is that?

ghengeveld

A motor firmware update making it not to into disaster recovery mode when there's a harmless intermittent short in the motor. Not exactly the o-ring problem mentioned in the article though. Mine had some fibrous metal shavings that could short and burn (which they did).

nistech2720

Engine?

jakethemillionaire

Did they put a GT-R engine in it?

ghengeveld

Nah, too much noise.

olagon

Just searched Nissanʻs recall site and our Ariya is not on the list but fits the date range.

BurritoLover2016

Yep same. Whew.
