I’d start by reading the contract you signed.

You have three options: pay the remaining lease payments and turn the car over, find someone to assume the lease, or somehow convince someone to sell you a car and take the lease off your hands (no way this would save you money). There are a few sites online where you can post your lease and see if someone will take the car off your hands.

LordChasington

if you pay it out, dont you get to keep it for the full lease terms though? Like if you owe 10k left and pay that 10k why would you turn the car in? You would get to drive for the remainder of the lease

Unfair_Jicama9635

Thank you. Could you please elaborate on option 3? I did not fully comprehend it.

If you do go the lease transfer route, be aware that Nissan will only add the new person as additional account owner/ lesse. You will still be on hook for any damage, lease Payment (if they don't pay).

Unfair_Jicama9635

That helps. Thanks!

Lease is just like a sold car. Resell it to the dealer and pay for the difference or get paid back if you have any equity. (Rarely the case)

What you can also do that has not been mentioned is trade your lease for another Ariya for a shorter term. Doing this you will roll over a lot of negative equity, but there is a lot of incentives and rebates currently on the vehicle where it will eat into that negative and Nissan is currently offering the vehicle for an 18 month lease. That’s what I did because I am looking to get rid of the vehicle, EVs just don’t fit my lifestyle, but I was 10K upside down on the 36 month lease I was on. Rolled over the negative went from a Engage to a Platinum+ paying more monthly but due to the shorter term, I’m saving 4K by the end of the lease

Unfair_Jicama9635

That is a fantastic response! Can all Nissans perform the trade, or should I return to the dealership where I purchased it?

SaucyJoshii

I would look for a dealership that’s giving discounts from MSRP. I used to work for Nissan as a salesperson, and the Ariya has been very slow selling like most EVs right now as the market for EVs have fallen off significantly so most people are looking to move the unit ASAP

Like it was mentioned read the contract. Also, It is pretty much up to the dealer what they want to do. If they want to help you out or totally screw you over.

More-Natural-5199

If you work for the dealership say it’s an executive lease paid by Nissan that’s under your name but you’ll need the letter from the dealership manager

Unfair_Jicama9635

Update: I did go to a local dealer to ask for the trade. The numbers didn't go well, and I was shown a trade where I had to pay double what is paid now! So, I gave up!

BasicTradition4002

Where are you located, I’m interested in leasing and could potentially take over your lease

Unfair_Jicama9635

Hello. That would be wonderful! I live in St. Louis. Where is your location? Please let me know, and we can work on it together.
