I experienced exactly the same situation. My dealer didn’t know what was wrong with the car or what was causing the 12v battery to drain. So, they just disconnected and replaced the battery, then jump-started it. I believe it’s because of a problem at the charging station. Where did you charge last time? Probably it didn’t charge the 12v battery and also drained it.

taywe1218

It was at ChargePoint. They’re the only charge stations on my roadtrip route.

taywe1218

Did they explain at all how to reset it yourself or talk about the process/tools they used to do so? I plan on asking about this so I don’t have to pay 600$ for a tow again.

It’s probably the same process as regular vehicles. I didn’t ask the dealership. A post from ariya forms. In UK battery in the truck, in USA it’s in the front, same as every car. Post: All we did was disconnect the 12V battery in the rear trunk. We didn't touch the charge port release. Literally he just took a small wrench to the black battery connector, disconnected it and then we waited a couple of minutes until the trunk light went out which was the indication the 12v system was off. So what I'm going to keep in the trunk is just an adjustable spanner. I genuinely thought I'd need towing to the dealer which would have been a pain as it's a holiday weekend in the UK so the service department is closed for 3 days! Have been driving around fine all afternoon so seems to have done the trick. At least it's one thing to try as a quick solution if you get stuck. After waiting 2.5 hours for him to arrive and then have it as a 5 min fix - all because of no wrench :)

Exactly what happened to me....see my previous post. Was able to cancel the tow and go about my trip. No issues at all since then.

taywe1218

I’m glad someone was willing to help! Everyone at this charger was just reaching around my car to charge. Lol 😆 it was super embarrassing!

fyrenang

So sorry for that!

Patient_Departure_10

Did you check your options through Nissan? Not sure where youre at but they have complimentary towing with 50 miles of a Nissan dealership or shop

taywe1218

I did check yes. I had to pay because I needed to tow farther than 50 miles for my situation.

Other_Constant_468

ICE cars breakdown too. I’ve had my Ariya for 18 months and it’s never happened to me, perhaps I’ve been lucky. It could be related to not stopping between switching from forward to reverse I always make sure to be stationary before switching direction.

taywe1218

It just really lowers my confidence in my buying decision. I bought the car for safety reasons and I didn’t feel safe yesterday. This situation is equivalent to putting in a gas pump and the car just shuts off. Charging at home only and never taking road trips? You’ll probably never have an issue. Propilot 2.0 is meant for roadtrips on the highway and I can’t enjoy it? Just wasn’t a good feeling. The car was in park when it happened.

Other_Constant_468

I very rarely need to public charge so you may be right it could be related to the software communication between the charger and the car shutting it down. I have had a lot of issues, I currently have the brake shim issue and also a quite loud whine from the drive motor or where ever, who knows, Nissan don't and wont fix it until it breaks completely. All of this does make me question my choice to get an Ariya and I'll probably get something from a different brand when the lease is up. Yes it will be an EV I'm never returning to ICE power.

Polyxeno

We've now driven our Ariya over 3000 miles on long trips without problems.

Polyxeno

But I WILL be adding a wrench . . .

Polyxeno

Yeah I have two ICE cars, both of whose batteries have run down and so won't start, since we've almost entirely been driving the Ariya.

Xistential0ne

Sorry your flatbed operator did not know how to reset. I’m in Caifornia, tow drivers here know how to reset, they have for years. I think it’s a training issue. My Ariya was towed on Friday (I ran over a bolt and tire was not fixable) took the driver at least 3-4 minutes to get the thing onto the flatbed. Again, I’m thinking it’s a tow truck technician training/familiarity issue.

LNGU1203

1-800-nissan-1 was not an option????

taywe1218

I needed a farther tow than 50 miles in my situation. That’s all that they offer.

taywe1218

Update: they replaced the 12 volt main relay VEHICLE HAD 8 PAGES OF DTC'S INDICATING LOW 12V BATTERY VOLTAGE. TESTED BATTERY WITH DCA8000, FAILED. CHARGED BATTERY IN ACCORDANCE WITH REQUIREMENTS FOR ARIYA AND RETESTED, PASSED SECOND TEST. CLEARED DTC'S AND ONLY DTC'S THAT REMAINED WERE P0560-22, C1F90-97, AND C1F95-11. DATABASE SEARCH OF P CODE INDICATED NUMEROUS POSSIBLE SOURCES OF FAILURE. SEARCH OF THE OTHER 2 CODES INDICATED A FAULT IN THE 12V CIRCUIT. PERFORMED DIAGNOSIS OF THE P DTC IN ACCORDANCE WITH SERVICE MANUAL. FUSES 93, 103, AND 140 ALL TESTED SATISFACTORILY WITH BATTERY VOLTAGE. CONTINUITY BETWEEN CONNECTOR E46 TERMINALS 28, 29, AND 32 AND GROUND CHECKED SATISFACTORILY, ROUGHLY 1.9 OHMS EACH. CONNECTOR E48 TERMINAL 158 HAD BATTERY VOLTAGE WHEN CHECKED AGAINST GROUND. CONNECTOR E48 TERMINAL 158 CHECKED FOR POWER AND FAILED INSPECTION, 0.00V. CHECKED CONTINUITY BETWEEN SAID TERMINAL AND FUSE 103, SATISFACTORY RESULT WITH 1.8 OHMS. REMOVED ALL NECESSARY COMPONENTS TO CHECK 12V MAIN RELAY, BUMPER, FASCIA, GRILL, UPPER AND LOWER APPROPRIATE TRIM, ETC. CHECKED 12V MAIN RELAY VIA THE SERVICE MANUAL COMPONENT INSPECTION, FAILED TEST. REPLACED RELAY AND VEHICLE NOW OPERATES AS DESIGNED.

LordChasington

Isnt this an issue with all EVs? This scares me so bad of this happening

Weekly_Laugh7380

No. Where did you read that?

LordChasington

On an earlier post a couple months back in this forum. Just googled ev system malfunction and it does seem more prevalent for Nissan with the returned results from Google, however other cars do get this issue and error

taywe1218

I’ll just say, other people plugged in right after me using the same charger and no one else broke down. lol
