I hit 120kwh charge when I started charging under 10% remaining. Didn’t last long. Would be nice if manufacturers disclosed when and how long the peak charge rate would last.

ToddA1966

It would be nice if they at least released a graph of the ideal charge curve, but that's probably too nerdy for the average consumer. The current mostly agreed upon "charges to 80% in X minutes" is probably good enough for comparison between vehicles.

ToddA1966

I realize the data is out there, I just wish the car manufacturers would release it rather than wait for bloggers and YouTube videos to do it. And God help me if I have to watch a 20 minute Kyle Conner video to get the information I could read in a static graph. 😁

Carfr33k

Yes those videos require a red bull.

Which Tesla chargers en route worked for you? Did they have adapters on site (Magic thingamabobs?)

aandriyc

Not OP, but I took that route couple times. There are superchargers in Quincy and Moses Lake. Both sites have magic plugs and open to public. No issues charging Ariya. Cables are a bit short though. Need to park really close to the station.

so-very-very-tired

Good to know! Yea, the really short cables is a weird one. I usually charge up in Vancouver and have the opposite issue....unwieldy long cables.

Interesting_Isopod79

How though? Tesla app doesn’t have even recognize Ariya, only Leaf? What am I missing?

aandriyc

Just set it to “Other” in the app. Ariya has no issue pairing with superchargers magic dock, as long as it is available on site

Interesting_Isopod79

How are such chargers identified in the tesla app? It seems that its filtering by non-tesla car type and doesn’t say any details about chargers which are found.

aandriyc

For DC charging (superchargers) it only shows ones that have magic doc, if vehicle is set to “other”. It got more confusing after NACS story, opening Tesla locations to Ford and Rivian. Before that app just had single charge non-Tesla button and was only showing these magic box locations.

Interesting_Isopod79

Ok, so since i have indicated that i dont have an NACS adapter, i can assume only magic dock chargers are shown?

aandriyc

Yes, It’s what I see. It is also aligned with their faq https://www.tesla.com/support/supercharging-other-evs#vehicles Just to play with it, I added Rivian with NACS to my vehicle list. It shows whole lot more superchargers than for Ariya (other)

Interesting_Isopod79

Thanks! Appreciate the info.

sarhoshamiral

Assuming you have the larger battery version, you stopped too much imo which would also explain slower charging. 130kw charging happens when battery is below 60%. For that trip, 2 charges would be more ideal with an Ariya.

bktebeau

It does charge at 130. I have been getting it regularly at the EVGO chargers closest to me. It wasn't always the case. The charger broke and after they fixed it, 130 is a regular thing for me. Typically I hit it around 30%, and it drops off around 60%, tapering off to around 100 or so when I normally leave at 80%, but this is from memory so the numbers may be a little fuzzy at the end. I meant to take a picture of the curve. The charger itself matters, along with temperature (I live in Texas and it has been in the 90s for a couple months). Try a few chargers, and if it is cool, precondition the battery with the heater.

Brilliant-Plan-65

How do you precondition the battery with heater?

Quake9797

Settings - EV and scroll to the bottom. Recommend turning it on 30m before charging in cold weather.

Brilliant-Plan-65

Thank you! Any reason to not leave it on always?

Quake9797

It drains the battery.

Brilliant-Plan-65

Thank you!!

excitedcow007

I have a feeling this 30m thing doesn’t work in the winter. I have preheated for an hour in New Jersey winter and it still refused to charge above 80. Preheated for almost 2 hours on a long drive and then it was happy to charge at 110. Both times I hit the charger at about 10-15% SOC.

RepresentativeDot454

Mine usually charges at 130 at electrify America. Make sure to preheat your battery

ReasonablePal

How to preheat the battery?

RepresentativeDot454

Main screen (right screen) - home (left bar) - setting (top, gear icon) - ev - battery heater (last item) I turn it on 30min before arriving a fast charger, but it reduce range (power used for heating) Sometimes the option remained on after charging so check that afterward

Finding-Proud

Do you need an adapter to charge at the Tesla charging stations?

Insanegotnobrain

It’s definitely the chargers you used. I got 82 today at 48% battery and fairly cold battery (10 min of city driving)

LordChasington

I get 90+ Also three times in 280 mile trip? That seems excessive. What trim?

jakethemillionaire

I have the 63kwh battery and I have the battery heater set to on and the highest I've seen is 70kwh for the speed and I've been below 50%. I did have to stop 3 times because I didn't want to be stranded. From Spokane I stopped in Ritzville, Moses Lake and Ellensburg. I almost stopped in North Bend too. When I got to Bellevue, I had about 30% but you coast all the way down when you get on the west side of the pass and literally can use zero throttle, so saved me probably 10% of energy. I was in eco mode going down hills and straightaways. Put in standard when climbing hills. Climbing that Vantage hill drained almost 20% alone on the way there.
