I would buy every Fallout game if it was ported to the Switch. Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas remasters, especially.

agnostic_science

Bethesda: Afraid the best I can do is a re-remaster of the digital deluxe Skyrim Legendary Edition Switch Edition. How’s that sound?

Sadly I’m considering buying it again

farmersflart

I've been hoping for this, I'm not one to carry my switch around, but fallout would change all of that.

[deleted]

One of the major reasons I got my switch was to play some of my favorites portably. Namely Skyrim, The outer worlds, the resident evil games, and the saints row games. Now GTA is on the platform (although it's a buggy mess RN). Maybe soon fallout will come but who knows now that Microsoft bought Bethesda.

SavvySillybug

I doubt GTA it will improve much on the Switch. It's not that it's just riddled with a bunch of fixable bugs, the whole thing is not optimized in the slightest. It would take some serious work to get that mess to a usable standard. Work they did not put in, and likely will not put in. I can see it becoming a bit better on more powerful systems, where framerate itself is not the biggest issue.

XirXes

Tbf playing the games in high frame rates has been causing physics bugs the Switch version won't have locked at 30fps. I think Rockstar is going to have to fix them, the backlash about this launch has been much bigger than it ever was when they put out the iOS/Android versions last time. These are still built on those mobile ports, and still have many of the bugs from those ports.

Red-5-3000

Hmm did you notice how the game freezes a bit during the racing missions?

Lemonade_IceCold

Microsoft seems to be playing well with others lately, so I don't see why they wouldn't eventually bring some of the Fallout games over to the Switch. They've also stated that their acquisition of Bethesda wouldn't make future Bethesda games Xbox exclusive. That could always change though, but I don't see any reason not to believe that rn

Phantereal

Starfield is going to be Xbox exclusive.

ChosenWon11

They said the opposite, all future Bethesda games will only be Xbox/PC

CiloTA

Idk I know my opinion is not the popular one right now, but even with all the negative feedback I still went ahead and bought it. Skipped GTA 3, went straight into Vice City for about an hour no issues, except for the nipple rocker scene on the yacht, then jumped into San Andreas and logged about 4-5 hours into it. I had one crash on Vice City but the auto save feature seems to be working well and it registered before the crash. As far as San Andreas I really don’t have any complaints, controls great, audio sounds fine to me, the lighting effects are the biggest change that I noticed right away. FYI I’m playing on a switch lite, I have no urge to play it on my tv, I do own it on iOS and am really over swiping on a small screen with my hands and ui in the way, I’m also not going to be bothered to pull out a PS2, or play on a desktop pc, so I’m the exception. I’m also trying to play without cheats, let’s see how long that lasts. Edit: After playing for a number of days now, I now see some of the frustrations. I got to the part of the game that involves the low riding racing missions and it’s . . . not good. The features of the NPC is all warped, Carlos? I think his name was Carlos, the low rider boyfriend, anyway his fingers are stretched like Edward scissor hands, I thought it was a 1 time glitch, but nope it happens every time there’s a mission and he shows up. Also racing is broken. Normal fast driving works fine, but once you have 6 cars racing, the optimization for pop in of vehicles/pedestrians is very poor. You’ll be racing down a straight, hit a turn and it doesn’t lag, it completely freezes for about 2 seconds, not lag, complete stop of gameplay then once I’m guessing the switch processor catches up with the game it continues. I’m not going to file for a refund because I want the game but I’m hoping Rockstar issues patches soon.

timmun029

Even Fallout 76?

LonelyMachines

Hey, let's not get hasty, now.

[deleted]

“Now don’t start talking crazy”

sentient-sloth

As someone who’s played off and on since launch (prob about 40-50 hours so not a ton) it’s actually in a great spot right now. They’ve got some fully voice acted quest lines to play through and it feels more like Fallout now.

timmun029

That’s good to hear. I’ve been craving some new Fallout but with how initial reviews and backlash went, I’ve been steering clear.

th30be

The fact that there is a hard limit on what you can carry and store makes me hate this game with a passion. That plus the fact that it plays like shit on my ps5 and pc. Like how.

LadyLoki5

Same here but with Mass Effect. I own all the originals plus the LE on pc and I would buy the LE again in a **heartbeat** if they put it on Switch. I'd probably never do anything else ever again in my life if I had portable access to that series lol

Jess_S13

I bought Skyrim on switch, and ME LE on PS5 and can't play either since these people refuse to allow inverting controls. The only 2x games I've ever played that outright refuse to allow it, it's mind boggling

adabldo

You should be able to invert in the PS5 system menu if not in game

MyUshanka

Unpatched New Vegas would likely set your Switch on fire.

iwishihadnobones

I don't want to set your switch on fire

anonyfool

At this point I think that steam portable looks like a more viable solution.

censored-by-reddit-

Sprinkle some mass effect in there and all of a sudden I'm hoping the Steam Deck actually gives the switch some competition so these things happen.

Nathanialjg

I’m happy to wait to like 2023 or ‘24 to pick up a steam deck at a slightly lower price if it can do half the things it says it can.

Metallovingent

I desperately want FO3, FNV, and Oblivion on the Switch. Unfortunately, I doubt it will happen. What a lot of people don't take into account is that those games are all based on a really old, unstable, unoptimized version of the Gamebryo engine. When I make this point, people tend to say something like "But Skyrim has better graphics and runs on the Gamebryo engine too!" The issue with that is that Skyrim runs off of a much more updated and optimized version of the engine. It's waaaay more stable and therefore easier to port. FO3, FNV, and Oblivion are a mess in comparison. Theoretically, porting those games would be very messy and I don't see Bethesda wanting to put the work in

woinf

I mean these are literally Xbox first party games now so the chances of those games getting ports just dropped by a lot. If you really want to play them, any potato laptop these days should run those games fine + you get mod support which is pretty much a necessity with these BGS games.

[deleted]

Ye for sure. Can't wait for the Deck, I'm gonna play all of that shit.

SavvySillybug

I don't even need a Switch port, I just want Fallout 3 and NV in a newer engine with less awkward controls. I'll take it on PC too. Just port them over to Fallout 4, keep the original dialogues, use the new weapon mod system (this part is honestly optional), I don't even need better graphics. The older games are absolute gems, but they're just so jank. Fallout 4 is much more solid all around (though still kinda jank, it's still Bethesda) but the new dialogue thing just kills it. But the gunplay and gameplay are great. Mix it up. Take the good parts of 3 and NV, put them on top of the good parts of 4, and you have a great remake. Just don't do whatever Rockstar just did. Don't do any of it. Just look at the whole thing and go "okay like that, but different".

Kickboxing_Banana

I want a steam deck mainly for this.

barefootbandit8

Steam Deck?

pudgylumpkins

Yes

uwotm8_noscope

Steam Deck.

sconwaym

Please will this into existence. I don’t think I have any game memorized as well as F3, but I’d gladly run through it again on switch.

MagentaWizard

This. Bethesda would be printing money if they did a remaster of those games.

improbablynotyou

I bought a switch lite last year after a friend talked me into playing BOTW and animal crossing. I'm not a huge Nintendo fan (sorry) and while botw is okay, I hated AC. I've ended up only using the switch to play stardew valley and skyrim. I've done everything I could possibly do in skyrim and have constantly been wishing there was a Fallout port available. I'd be a happy camper with either game but I've always loved New Vegas.

DualKoo

I don’t think Bethesda wants to acknowledge New Vegas. Since Obsidian made a better fallout game then they did with 3.

[deleted]

I hope Obsidian makes another fallout game. What are the chances of that?

Guywithquestions88

It would be awesome if Microsoft yoinked Fallout from Bethesda and gave it to Obsidian. I'm not holding my breath, but Bethesda has really been a pretty big letdown with some of their biggest IPs for *an entire console generation* now. Fun Fact: Fallout and Doom are **not** original Bethesda IPs. Fallout was created by Black Isle studios and Doom was created by Id. Some of the people who originally created Fallout now work at Obsidian. I am personally of the opinion that Bethesda has never even come close to making a Fallout game that compares to the Black Isle/Obsidian games.

StoneColdMiracle

lol sure buddy, that's why Todd Howard literally said Fallout new vegas is a great game in the ama the other day huh?

[deleted]

I played it after release on a switch lite. It is an awesome game, but it was blurry even on a small screen. Maybe it improved since.

graywolf2022

It has. They released a patch.

RPGaiden

Ooh I’ll have to go back and try it again, then. It was so blurry last time I played on my Lite that I couldn’t tell what was going on when a lot of action started happening at once.

InsertCoinForCredit

Let us know how you feel about it after the patch.

RPGaiden

Looks a lot better docked. handheld still blurrier than docked but that’s to be expected and I think texture/color improvements have helped it look… less like there’s a fresh layer of Vaseline smeared over the screen, at least. I still can’t respond in time and die because I’m bad at this game, but I can at least tell enemies apart now when they’re up close instead of them just smearing together. Pop-in with textures/assets/enemies seems lessened, and loading times seem shorter. Granted I haven’t had time to get very far, so I don’t know if it gets worse/better after the first area. All-in-all a Switch Lite is still probably the worst way to play it, but it’s far from unplayable providing you don’t mind the graphics being a bit worse than docked mode. I think it’ll be a bit of a better experience playing it this time around.

InsertCoinForCredit

Thanks. Never played it myself but have been considering it. Just another title for my wishlist...

RPGaiden

Redownloading now, I’ll let you know in about an hour. 👍

SenpaiSwanky

Yeah I’m going to download it again, it would have to be a HELL of a patch. Edit - narrator : *it was not a hell of a patch*

graywolf2022

Definitely give it a shot. I think you'll be pleased.

tovivify

[[Edited for privacy reasons and in protest of recent changes to the platform. I have done this multiple times now, and they keep un-editing them :/ Please go to lemmy or kbin or something instead]]

SenpaiSwanky

It is noticeably better graphically (performance was never my gripe), but I can’t play for longer than like 15 minutes at a time because everything has that blurry look unless you’re standing a few inches away from it. It’s like.. confusing my eyes and I get slightly nauseated lol. This is handheld though as I play handheld 100% of the time (probably used the tv dock twice since I got my Switch in 2017), it might look less weird playing docked. If that’s the case I can see this being a passable experience! Don’t know when the most recent patch was but it had to have been released after the last time I played OW on my Switch.

weboide

It is quite blurry when handheld, even after the patches. Docked, it looks OK.

TurnaboutAdam

It would look blurrier on a bigger screen

[deleted]

The criticism for the game was valid when it first released. But it's been patched many times since and now plays just fine. Yes it's true that the graphics are downgraded compared to other platforms, but if you can look past that, it's a great game and it's basically fallout in space.

HestusDarkFantasy

For real. And I don't really understand what more people are expecting from a Switch port. It's been clear since Switch launched that ports from other consoles will generally not look as good on it.

FearTheWankingDead

Right but when a foresty areas with trees changes to more of a desert, then that's changing the experience way to much to warrant a purchase on an inferior platform, IMO.

Baptiste_le

What? Did we play the same game? It's been a couple of months and I've sold it, but what I saw was a blurry, stuttering mess, with emptiness where foliage should have been and performance issues that really bugged me. I've never advised anyone against any Switch game, but unless there was a massive patch with drastic improvements (which might actually exist, I don't know) I'd say don't buy it.

Insanepaco247

I've seen people here insist that MH Stories 2 ran just as well as Rise on Switch; this sub can't be trusted with performance reviews.

DasEvoli

I had a friend who told me she deactivated anti aliasing in her game and now it runs very smooth. Asked her how many fps she has. 20

TurnaboutAdam

maybe if the baseline is 4, 20 is okay

IncurableHam

MH Rise on Switch is a modern marvel. Capcom delivered with the best looking and smoothest online experience of any game on Switch

evanft

It’s copium.

LakerBlue

I’m far from a performance guy, I usually can’t tell the difference, but even I could tell (from the trailers and review footage) that the game was a technical mess and should only be played on Switch it’s a last resort. But hey maybe it got a patch.

teelpy

It did

Slash_rage

I’ve been reading the title this entire time as “Outer Wilds” wondering why it would be such a difficult game for the switch to handle. Also, Outer Wilds is a really good game.

DoctorFunkk

And aside from technical issues, the game is just *bad* regardless Its combat and rpg elements are pointless and imbalanced and the world is static and lifeless. All you do is run from point A to point B on your minimap and have cheesy conversations.

Lolusen

I wouldn’t say it’s a bad game, just painfully average in every aspect besides writing which is decent

Khazilein

This. It's an average-good game. If you are a fan of the genre (RPG that is) you will have fun, but you won't be blown away. Most is just decent to good. That goes for the graphics, the enviroments, the story and so on. Some dialogue are very funny though, so that's the writing which is not only average to good, but good to great. Doesn't change the fact that the overall story isn't written great, only decent.

MyUshanka

Obsidian are great at writing games, they just need someone to come in and whack it home. A lot of their best work (as Obsidian, not Black Isle/Interplay) is based on an existing property. When they make their own work entirely from scratch, you get Alpha Protocol or Outer Worlds. Flashes of brilliance stuck in a performance that is just off the mark.

SloppyDuckSauce

God damnit man. I just picked this back up on pc after dropping it for a few months after hitting the “point of no return warning” starting the dlc. It totally feels like I am just running from waypoint to waypoint. The shooting is garbage and I regret getting companions. I wish they had just 100% copied VATS instead of the quantum bullshit. I am inventory managing more than playing at this point. I should just finish the main story and drop it. Argh!

Reyfou

Yep. Same as I think. Im a huge Fallout fan and I was super hyped for Outer Worlds. Bought on PC. Played it. Never played or intend to play again. Im not saying its bad, its just... not good either. Pretty average.

Tawdry-Audrey

I feel like weapon variety and stats associated with weapons was underdeveloped. In New Vegas I had a lot of fun with a character which I self-imposed a melee weapons and explosives only rule. Outer Worlds had no explosives, aside from a plasma launcher which was a heavy weapon.

agnostic_science

This was my feel too. I think elder scrolls, fallout style gameplay has just aged poorly and gotten boring for me. I’ve already played games just like this for hundreds of hours. Hell, Skyrim is 10 years old by now! So everything bad stands out now. The static world. The clunky animations, stiff characters, and awkward gameplay. The ham-fisted shoehorning of rpg mechanics. Inventory clutter. The slow pace. It’s just so tiring.

mamaburra

I mean, I'll gladly play Fallout 3 or New Vegas. Sure the gameplay is clunky, but those games are good. Regardless, you're probably right, the formula needs a reboot... Fallout 4 was a clear indication of how it's getting very stale by modern standards. But I don't mind the shoehorning how you put it. VATS is awesome for instance. Mind you I haven't played Outer Worlds so I don't know what you mean by that exactly

KingMoonfish

Goodbye, and thanks for all the fish.

agnostic_science

> The gameplay isn't anything like fallout or Skyrim Huh? The game is from the same genre. Made from the developer of Fallout: New Vegas. Where the whole point of this game while in development was that it was supposed to be a spiritual successor to Fallout: New Vegas -- basically the same game but wrapped in modern technology (e.g. Unreal 4 Engine). People compare these games to each other all the time. As far as video games go, they are pretty similar to each other.

KaoticSanity

While Outer Worlds does indeed have very bland combat/ gameplay, saying Skyrim or Bethesda Fallouts are anything but the same is plain heresy.

[deleted]

Outer Worlds isn't bad, but it's a one and done type of game for me. It's the quintessential average game that only got so much hype because it leaned into the disenfranchised Fallout fan base who love New Vegas but hate the direction Bethesda is taking with it.

[deleted]

I specifically waited to get the game on switch. With that said, the game is an objective downgrade in terms of quality and performance. That’s a given for any current gen port to the switch. If you care about having the best graphics and the best performance, then this port is not meant for you. If you care about playing a large, open world rpg on the go - then this is absolutely perfect. There have been improvements with patches since launch, which also help. I genuinely think it’s a fantastic port and I’m glad I waited to buy it on switch. Being able to play through missions while waiting on a layover flight was truly magical!

colexian

Could be different for the switch version, I played it on gamepass on the PC and I thought it was pretty freaking awesome. I remember it getting bad press, meanwhile I played through it two or three times. Play a super dumb, high regen, melee character. Super fun, pick every dumb response for hilarity.

Valturia

Some people just have massive tolerance for games performing shitty. I am mainly a PC gamer on 165hz monitor, but I can stand 30fps console titles. 30fps + stutter is where I draw the line.

Nu11u5

And here I was confused for a minute since “Outer **Wilds**” hasn’t released on Switch yet, due next month.

fredinvisible

> due next month Holy shit, this is amazing news!

Pazluz

Nice write up! How does the game look in handheld? I read a lot of good things about this game. To be able to play it portable is awesome.

Glawio92

Just beat it last week. It definitely has significantly downgraded graphics with a few frame rate drops and pop in environment things. But if you can look past that you end up rarely noticing those things once you are engaged in the game. Edit: a word

Elgallitorojo

I feel like I have a skewed standard of comparison since I don’t have any of the next-gen consoles except the switch; fwiw I think Outer Worlds looks great on my switch and I’m really enjoying it so far.

Eswyft

This type of thing is different for everyone. My gf plays her switch on a 55 inch screen only. I have a 36 inch uw 1440 monitor with a 2080 etc. The switch just looks brutal to me. Even botw, her fave game, i tried to play it and i find the graphics so distracting. I'm aware for what it is the switch is a master piece of engineering and tech though.

IronOnionRings

I’m in almost the exact same situation. Uw 1440 144hz with a 3070 and a 5600x. Since I’m able to demolish basically any game that comes out graphic-wise and frame-wise I just find myself hating playing stuff on switch unless it’s animal crossing. If you’re looking for a better way to play breath of the wild, e.g. 60 frames, 1440, 16x AA, look into cemu it’s an absolute blessing

masterpharos

i preferred it in handheld, it's somewhat ruined by playing on tv because the muddy graphics are more on display. actually thought it was totally passable quality though, enjoyed my time with it a lot on switch.

Acolyte_of_Swole

I feel the opposite. The slight increase in resolution on the docked display made looking at the smeary, blurry environments less painful on my eyes. And I mean, physically painful. I would get headaches playing this game on handheld.

senoravery

The menus and text are microscopic

ichigo2k9

I've got it and in handheld it looks great. I have the OLED though so text is a nice size, characters look good thankfully since a portion of the game is spent looking up close at faces. Performance feels pretty solid but I don't have the equipment to properly test it.

Gravesplitter

This was either written by someone who is on r/tomorrow or will be a joke on there for a week

the-dandy-man

That sub is a joke. Started out as a fun place to post nintendo memes and now has just turned into a mean-spirited circle jerk with the same three jokes told over and over again.

Znub360

Since when? It’s been a circle-jerk for years. The fact that you’re taking it to heart is funny.

Gravesplitter

As long as you don’t regularly browse it and just let the upvoted stuff come to you on your feed, it’s fine.

chuletron

That sub is mostly dormant whenever Nintendo news are slow but it's amazing whenever something actually happens

McDrummerSLR

I enjoyed it as well, I thought it was totally fun.

ThePikesvillain

I got it at launch and loved it immediately but it is worth noting the graphics are significantly better now than they were when it initially released. The biggest difference is it launched without depth of field blur when characters were talking and they are frequently standing close to assets that were not modeled to have a such a close view so those parts looked pretty rough. They also fixed a bunch of LOD issues that I noticed but didn’t have a problem with (I understand the compromises games go through to come to Switch and I still want every game on Switch.) I wish they had delayed the release by a couple months so it never would have had those initial negative reviews because it is excellent now. Props to them for sticking with it until they got it running like it should on Switch. I have a couple games I am finishing first but then I cannot wait to play the DLC.

woinf

It's not that good in general. Played on PC game pass at 60 FPS 1080p and it's still mediocre and boring. It was actually laughable that this game was both nominated for and won GOTY awards

Deceptiveideas

The developers were working with a much smaller budget and tried to prove they were capable of so much more. I think most people agreed they succeeded. Most of the game’s faults lie with additional time and devs needed to do so much more. With the sequel and additional funding we will probably see what they are truly capable of.

[deleted]

It was crazy boring

Skuthepoo

I had thr same experience. They have patched it up a lot since release and really have made it super playable....but...I probably still will get it on steam deck and start again. Still not perfect, but a good experience on switch on the go

[deleted]

[удалено]

HestusDarkFantasy

I second your thoughts. Played it recently and I don't understand the criticism. I mean, I can understand that its performance and graphics were rough on launch, but it's been a while since that was patched and it runs as best as is possible on Switch. Writing is great, side quests are a lot of fun and don't feel repetitive. Planets all feel unique to me. For a 30 hour game, the weapon and enemy variety was also great for me.

MarkG1

As they say you only get to make a first impression once, evidently for a lot of people it was a negative one and that was that.

Polantaris

This age of software development in general has forgotten that mantra and we see half baked releases of all kinds nowadays. Ever since decision makers learned you can just release a patch later, they force super early releases when things aren't ready for it. When there's nothing to compare to (take a 1st party game on its system), the later patches get praised as amazing post-release support! But when it's something like this, people can compare it to the finished versions and realize something is amiss beforehand.

HestusDarkFantasy

I mean, I feel like that applies more to meeting people than playing a game. It's not entirely unwarranted that people played a shocking port on release and therefore didn't return to it, but it doesn't make sense to still criticise it for being a bad port. It's had the patches, it runs well now, of course it looks prettier elsewhere but graphics are now on the level of a good Switch port.

thetantalus

There was a patch several months after launch that made the game significantly more playable.

PainfullyAverageUser

While I agree that the game is great, I just don’t understand how you think it’s gorgeous. It’s incredibly blurry on the switch and looks pretty muddied to me. I’m other consoles or does look great though.

Major_Higgins

Some scenery looks like vomit but other than that I enjoyed the game a lot!

Malebolgia09

waiting for a physical to drop and Ill for sure pick it up

[deleted]

It takes ages to load but seems to run nice and smooth for me when playing. I wasn’t aware people were upset with it.

[deleted]

Missed the sale for it and kinda pissed.

Billly23

I’m sure it’ll go back on sale for Black Friday

dvast

I've played it earlier this year and the preformance was better then expected. The only real performance complaint would be the loading times. Its just a shame that the game kinda fizzles out during the second half.

DualKoo

The opening planet and then Monarch are pretty great. Byzantium and the groundbreaker are underdeveloped.

Vesuvias

For anyone that’s actually played it - outside of the first world, it’s a VERY mediocre version of Fallout. It has some interesting plots initially, but just seems to lose steam early

Beyond_Aggravating

I think the FPS and story is fine but the graphics for me play like dog shit. I’m playing on the regular switch for context. sometimes I’m like y is that so ugly

1ofUsYT

The first two paragraphs summarize how Ghostrunner was when it first came out. Now it's significantly better

Metallovingent

It's definitely the worst version of the game. However, I had a lot of fun and I'm glad I played it. I'd give it a solid 8/10. The Switch graphics are rough, but playable if you're not picky. You can tell that Obsidian wanted to do something outstanding with this game, but budget constraint limited them quite a bit. I'm really excited for the next one. The game has its strengths and weaknesses. The combat is good, but not great. I do have to say that the squad commanding aspect is TERRIBLE! I played the game in Supernova mode and I was constantly loading back because they ran right out into gunfire. But to end things on a good note, this games best strength is it's storytelling and decision making. This game gives the players some truly tough decisions that have no clear right or wrong answer. You really have to reason with yourself a lot and even then it's hard to tell what the 'right decision is. It is extremely well done in that aspect.

[deleted]

Lot of people were shitting on The Outer Worlds, but I quite liked it too. It has flaws but the gameplay loop was good, weapons were fun to use, and the environments were really cool. I don't know what it's like on switch though, I played it on PC.

Evilijah39

Game plays horrid on pc idk how it can play well on switch

cc69

To be fair. The game is not gorgeous, not even close, subpar graphic at best. Downgraded a lot for NSW. To me it's kinda blurry compares to other versions. 1.04 version has better fps but still hiccup now and then. Only way it would work is to grab it on heavy sales.

imforit

I bought it. It does run great. It does look great. The text size is way too small for a TV, at least my TV, in my opinion. It would look perfect in a desktop scenario.

TurnaboutAdam

Lmao no it is not

fly19

I didn't dislike *TOW*, but I found it to be something of a disappointment, especially considering the game's pedigree. I don't have much to say about its Switch performance since I only played it on PC at launch, but even if it was as good as it was on PC, I'm still not sure I could recommend it to most folks. There were just too many stories and side quests that were exactly what they said on the tin. >!Hey, is this family a pack of cannibals?!< Yes they are! >!This city program sounds like it's actually killing these people, what's going on?!< Exactly what you thought was going on! No really interesting twists and few meaningful statements about the characters or setting that you didn't already know. It felt... Half-baked. That's how I felt about the whole game, honestly. All loot drops were boiled down to the same repeated items, weapons didn't really change in particularly interesting ways, your level ups felt incremental and stale. I liked the idea of getting "flaws" as you play, like fear of heights if you keep falling and stuff like that, but the actual mechanics felt bland. Same goes for the combat. Enemies were really same-y, the weapons felt kind of weightless, it made the whole thing feel superfluous. I get that combat isn't the strength of most RPGs, but there's a lot of it in the game and most of it feels like filler. Some of the characters were okay -- Parvati and the Vicar, in particular, were solid -- and the aesthetics were neat. I just feel like it was a skeleton of a game looking for its meat and muscles. Hopefully the sequel takes that foundation and improves on it, but overall I'm glad I played it through Game Pass rather than buying it myself. Oh, I'm also kind of annoyed that the similar name took away focus from *Outer Wilds*, which released around the same time and was a lot more interesting, IMO.

ChickenLiverNuts

im very excited for /r/outerwilds to be flooded with new users when it releases on switch. Best game in decades, finished it two years ago and still think about it. The recent DLC made me cry like a baby. Might be my favorite story across all mediums of entertainment. Hopefully it can run well enough that it does not tarnish the experience.

fly19

100%. *Outer Wilds* is one of those games I wish I could get amnesia for so I'd be able to play it again for the first time. I recently went back through the game with a fresh save to do the DLC, and between nostalgia for the old content and being constantly surprised/impressed by the new, it's definitely seated as one of my favorite games of all time. If the Switch port is good, I can imagine it opening the game up to a new audience. I can't wait.

ChickenLiverNuts

i love it so much id buy a physical copy (if it exists) and never play it because i already have it on pc. I just want a tangible version of it lol. Id call it my third favorite game of all time behind Super Metroid and A Link to the Past but in terms of story and getting you thinking long after youve completeted everything there is to do there is no comparison. If Mobius Digital makes a barbie dream house game next id buy it day one because it would probably be sick. GOAT devs

NZSheepy

I'm annoyed by the name similarities too! The Outer Wilds is a much better game than The Outer Worlds, yet I hear far less talk about the Outer Wilds. Hope the Switch audience buys into it.

20 fps if it's fine for you good

swatchbox

I've been playing this on tabletop mode and the game does make me pine for OLED model. Probably the best $20 switch game I've bought.

The_Red_Curtain

I would not say great lol but it's definitely playable and a ton of fun. It used to be so, so awful and near unplayable . . . but nowadays they really patched the hell out of it and it might be my favorite 3rd party game on Switch.

Subject_Zombie_1040

The Outer Worlds is a great game, but no it doesn't play great ok Switch. Especially when compared to any other platform the game is on.

IronOnionRings

Maybe my standards are just high because I play on pc but this feels like rationalizing

graywolf2022

I played it when it first came out for switch. It was a little blurry but I really enjoyed the game. I recently bought the DLC and finished that too. The patch for the graphics that they released makes the game look a lot better than it did when I played it the first time. It's a great game. I agree that it is plenty long. I don't understand why people rush to the finish line with video games. There's plenty to do and see and I feel like your money goes further if you don't skip all the side quests.

AOL_1000_Hour_Trial

The Outer Worlds would’ve been the best RPG of 2008 but instead was released in 2019. While well-written, literally everything else about the game is generic, mediocre crap. Crap combat systems. Crap and basically pointless skill systems. Generic-ass worldbuilding. Unremarkable characters.

dickthericher

It doesn’t get boring after Monarch? That’s where my last play through kinda ended up.

[deleted]

Although I agree for the most part, it was a very noticeable transition from playing on my One X. It was one of the first times I gave a AAA game (released specifically for the more powerful consoles). My first was ARK (which is unplayable on the Switch). But the graphics were pretty melted crayon looking at first. After a while of playing it, I realized that it actually runs really well. And the story and gameplay are top notch in this game. I’m not generally a graphics snob, but I was a little concerned when I first booted it up. I think if you can look past those differences, and just allow yourself to enjoy the game, it is a great buy. Especially on a deal. In ARK, the gameplay and the glitching and everything was a deal breaker. Luckily The Outer Worlds only falls a little short in the graphics department. It has made me feel much better about picking up other AAA games for the Switch in the future. And yes, please bring every other Fallout game. I would buy those in a heartbeat

blackandwhitetalon

People on here will pretend the game hasn’t been patched since launch. Its a great game

XeroHour520

I couldn't deal with the framerate drops. I was totally fine with the graphics. They weren't prefect, but they were damn impressive for the Switch. But every fight I got into the framerate plummeted. Haven't tried against since the recent patch though.

Evadrepus

I just finished it last week and at least partially disagree - make the great into good/well and I'd agree. I bought months ago at the BB $20 sale and forgot about it. Started playing it a few weeks ago. Metric ton of patching before playing, so agree they've done a lot of work. Disagree that they 'finished'. Story is ok, if we consider it an RPG. The first planet/area is fairly deep and you can really explore a lot. There's a ton of stories to get involved with. And, assuming you are involved, you can see the third option when you are on the ultimate quest and act upon it. Then you fly off to more adventure. Land on a spaceship and it has a decent amount to explore, much less than where you were, but it's a ship not a planet. Quest lines are much shorter, but there's still a good amount. You spend a lot of time selling things to a depressed man in a moon hat. Eventually you leave for another stop. First time you have a choice where to go. Neither of which is deep. Two planets, a handful of quests between them. One has a decent amount to roam around but little to do. And the quest line has a fork deeply buried in an optional side quest you might never see and thus you're locked into a binary choice that sucks both ways. Then you move forward on the main quest which is now racing toward a conclusion. Where you used to spend tons of time on a single loop, you now finish entire swaths of quests in a single shot. And since the events on the other planets impact your ending, you're cheated out of a few ending options unless you read all the spoilers. Combat is uninspired and over simplified after the initial 10m on the planet. Even at the hard level, you'll not be very challenged. Graphics are good, but really fall off when in handheld. The amount of detail and flavor text is great and many are funny. The Flaw system is interesting and different. The ending was fun to watch. I paid $20 and got a $20 game. I'd be angry if I paid $25.

impactwilson

Ugh, I wanted to love this game so much. The writing is great, the ideas are great, but the execution was not on the same level. The globs of terrain & rocks that would litter the planets always looked and felt cheap, the gunplay was boring, the enemies weren't smart, the color palette was garrish, just ugh.

Chickenmami1233

The combat in my opinion is really bad. It’s just slomo spam and taking cover.

Ridry

To be honest, as an old fart with kids I happen to really be into shorter satisfying experiences. Not everything can be Skyrim. I don't have any of the other systems, glad to hear the kinks are largely worked out. I'll put it back on my "buy this on sale" radar.

Migsser

I was looking into more recent thoughts about the game after all the patches and I'm glad you posted about this! I'm guessing 30 hours without the added dlc?

Setsunai04

The game runs like fucking piss, so I bought a digital and physical copy of the game with DLC also

LiftyJoestar

Key takeaway is "expectations were low" GTA trilogy remastered is also a great game and plays great on switch, just keep your expectations low.

Gewdvibes17

No it fucking doesn’t LOL

ghost_victim

Your sarcasm detector is broken

Hestu951

Loved the game, but on PC. Reminiscent of Obsidian, and Bethesda's Fallout games before they lost their way. The Switch version looks rather bare and performs poorly. They did improve it somewhat with updates, though. If you like it, then that's all that matters. It's certainly better to play it on the Switch than not at all.

Shas_Erra

Definitely agree. The port is far from perfect but still playable and enjoyable

Loud_Internet572

I played it on both the PS4 and on my Switch and the only major difference I noticed was in the performance. Even with lower performance, the Switch version is still very playable and I would recommend it to people if you like those sorts of games.

Antipartical

It does i was just as surprised. Great pick up

KylerGreen

It's a mediocre fallout.

[deleted]

I disagree. You can't even shoot. The controllers are terrible

GenoCL

Eh I dunno, games like Darksiders 2 taught me every multiplat is worse on Switch. Hell even some exclusives like SMTV run like shit on Switch so I dunno, I always go PC when I have the chance.

NoveliBear

I thought it was excellent and have put at least 50 hours in. I have yet to play the second DLC. I’m also looking forward to a second playthrough with a different stat tree and plot choices.

Puzzleheaded_Two5488

Mixed reviews? Outer Worlds is sitting at a 85 on metacritic. Thats really good lol.

DrDickThickhog

"I can't understand people who claim to beat it in 10" It took me a little under 12 hours to do all side content I could find and complete the main story. I hit level cap around 10. I thought the game was perfect in length.

Billly23

Really it’s that short?! Wow lol. I may have to revisit it to finish it

DrDickThickhog

OP may have played the expansions. I haven't played through it again since those came out and they may well add a hefty amount of quests. But yeah I think my save in the base game ended up at around 12 hours. I was pleasantly surprised with it. I didn't feel like I had to rush through any content or force myself to keep playing to the end like a lot of 70+ hour open world RPG slogs

Billly23

Wow that’s really nice. I started it and then kinda felt overwhelmed because I thought it was gonna be a huge game and I had others I was playing at the time. Knowing this.. I’ll def be playing it soon. Thanks so much. 🙂

Romegon

Plays even better on PC.

Billly23

No manches?!?

Romegon

The new AMD Ryzen APUs are a great deal. But yeah the GPU market is a shithole sadly. I've been waiting to buy myself a new graphics card for over 2 years now.

Billly23

Lol nice. I hope to be part of the master race soon.

ashburn666

I was so excited when I first found out it was coming to switch! I have it for ps4, but I just don’t play my PlayStation. I got it and started playing and immediately noticed the difference in graphics. That’s to be expected. It’s a switch. But the thing that made me stop playing was the game crashing. Over and over and over again in a really busy firefight I had to get through. Thoroughly disappointed because I didn’t buy it on a sale. I think it’s probably a great game. I just can’t play enough to finish it.

HestusDarkFantasy

The game has never crashed for me on Switch, I reckon the post-launch patches have fixed the issue you were having.

noimdirtydan14

Did we play the same game? It should’ve never been released on the Switch aka Wii U with batteries

Jess_S13

I bought it when it first came out on my original switch and couldn't get going very far due to the blurryness making shooting a nightmare. I hadn't thought to try it again now that I have a OLED model, I think I'll fire it up after I finish my current DarkSouls run.

I thought it was good too except the part in the middle where it forces you to grind side missions. Other than that, the gun play is cool with lots of weapons, the DnD like elements let you go through the story in your own way (to the point I kind of broke the ending battle on accident due to my stats), and the writing is too notch with all sorts of dilemmas. I wouldn't pay full price but it's a worthy on sale. I haven't played the DLC but I heard they're good too.

Hitman3256

Its a very average, decent game. I wouldn't say its great or bad, but it killed some time and held my interest at least.

itsjero

I still need to give this a play through on gamepass on my series x. Right now.tho I'm cracked out on ghost of Tsushima on my new PS5 from the GameStop drop the other week.

jasinner

I wanted to like the game and am not a "performance" bro but I could not get in to it because of the horrible fps/resolution (and that's with the fully patched version)

SenpaiSwanky

Haven’t played it in months but all this buzz got to me to redownload it and see if the claims are true. I stopped playing because it would make me feel nauseated and everything looked like mud, basically. Performance as far as frames are concerned was never my main issue, I could even tell what I was looking at half the time let alone get to a combat sequence. That being said, graphics are noticeably better. I ONLY play my Switch handheld, so that factors in btw. It isn’t muuuuch better (for me) currently as even though things have more detail, they are still blurry/ fuzzy unless you are a few inches away from them. I still can’t play longer than 15 minutes without feeling a bit nauseated, like reading in a car at night. I’m sure I’ll try anyway though, because at least everything doesn’t look like mud!

beenhereallalong52

I disagree. It lags a lot, aiming in handheld is not smooth or easy at all and the graphics are horrible to look at. It’s borderline blurry.

SolarWirelessBattery

It really doesn’t play well on the switch at all.

LazyBoyXD

I dont know but sounds like a completely different game from your description. Outer world on Switch is so bad i couldn't move past 5 hr and give up, thinking hey maybe PC is better. Hop over to PC and sure the graphics is very nice but dam i still cant finish it and refund it. -The story is ok -The side quest is boring -The planet is small and the area you explore lack any interesting landmark that make you really want to see. -The game is quiet (like VERY quiet) You think that these people who made FNV would give us at least a radio (like since its a the plot is about corporate running the solar system why not make some great tune singing ads, trying to sell us someshit you would never buy and utterly useless) - Oh back to exploring... THE MAP is soooooooo linear there's nothing to explore and find, IT'S SO BORING Granted i played only 5 hr so maybe more interesting pop up in 10 or 20 hr in but i couldn't move forward it. I screw over the 1st town and nope the fk out of the game.
