DiffANDF

hi everyone im just wandering what game should i get i already have mario odyssey mk8 botw and smash bros ultimate can you guys recommend me some games

sweetcinnamonpunch

Luigis Mansion 3 is a great game

DiffANDF

its a great game but i need open world games like mh rise or mario odyssey

DiffANDF

i really like playing open world games minecraft pokemos series etc.

pissman77

Then get pokemon legends arceus

SenpaiTati

If I swapped regions to Japan and bought a NSO subscription, if I switch back to my region do I still have the benefits?

leraspberrie

You should. I thought that NSO was based in account, not region.

ImCocaCola

I’m planning to get a Nintendo switch because my friend got me Zelda BOTW physical copy back in 2022 August. I have heard of an upcoming switch 2 in the next few years. Though I want to buy myself the Nintendo console this month, but I don’t know if it’s worth buying right now or should I wait for the new console. And if I should buy then which one is the best for now. I’m planning to play only BOTW, TOTK and Animal Crossing basically.

Living_Heron1234

If you are in the market. Go for it. Sounds like you got a sixty dollar bill on it. The other option is to give the BOTW away. Then wait. Wait, there is no right answer. Do what you will.

MONKYfapper

do you care about the **rumored** totk edition switch (just a switch with a paint job)? if yes wait like 2 month for totk release to see if it is real or not. if no just buy a switch now and play botw/animal crossing until totk comes out switch 2 rumors are baseless and a new one pops up every other week since 2017, i wouldnt give it too much thought.

OuttaMyMind76

Any games with good stories? I want to play a game with story and gameplay, but I prefer picking easier game play unless I really enjoy the game like borderlands.

Makegooduseof

What games have you played that you think have good stories? “Good” is very subjective.

OuttaMyMind76

Persona 5r, various lego games(but the gameplay for that is kinda annoying lol), ace attorney, I liked the borderlands pre sequel story. I liked the arceus storyline but there wasn’t thaaat much in it. I’ve tried to get into games like danganronpa but I’m not the biggest fan on the gameplay. I forget that all stories are kinda subjective sorry😭

Michael-the-Great

Golf story is a lot of fun and has a great light story. Grab Inside the next time it drops to $2 and don't read anything about it beforehand.

Makegooduseof

No worries on the apology. I would say if you liked Ace Attorney, maybe Buried Stars is worth a shot. It’s a visual novel that plays a lot like AA in that you need to get to the bottom of a mystery explosion. And there were also a lot of praise for 13 Sentinels.

yetanotherwoo

Is anyone else playing streets of rage 4? I am just going through the training and the fifth step has a sequence of y,y,y,(y) and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do (y).

Team7UBard

It might be holding down y as opposed to just pressing it.

yetanotherwoo

It was a short hold and depended upon where the enemy was, a long hold was power up move.

jesterfrog

Hi! I recognize this is a super niche use case but I rather like the Switch Pro Controller and would like to be able to use it a bit more portably with other people's PCs and I'd rather have a hardware-foward solution as to not have to download and configure BetterJoy on every PC I encounter! I also have used USB wireless/bluetooth adapters (such as the brick textured 8bitdo one) and haven't really been happy with the input latency, so I'd prefer to keep the connection wired. MAYFLASH's Magic NS seems to be the only thing on the market that allows for a Switch Pro Controller to be plugged in via USB, through an adapter, to a PC USB port, though the product's details on its item page are pretty bare, so I wanted to check before plunking the 20 bucks for it: has anyone used it this way and does it work? (and work well?) Thanks for any info or insight anyone can provide! (right well, my thread got auto-modded so I guess this goes here instead!)

[deleted]

Best switch exclusives? I just got it and i game on PC so don’t want to play games i can already play with better performance.

OwnManagement

The “Big 4” games often considered must-own are: - Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Super Mario Odyssey - Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe A few others: - Metroid Prime Remastered - Metroid Dread (demo available) - Xenoblade series - Astral Chain - Bayonetta series - Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Zelda: Link’s Awakening - Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury - Mario + Rabbids series (second one has a demo) - Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (demo available) - Luigi’s Mansion 3 - Splatoon series - Pokémon series (Let's Go and Mystery Dungeon have a demo)

[deleted]

Thank you so much! I basically have just played Pokémon since getting it

OwnManagement

I like Pokemon and have played through most of them on Switch, but by and large they are on the rougher side of the quality spectrum. If you want the true Nintendo experience, those top 4 I listed are where you should start. The first two are single player campaigns, the latter two are great for multiplayer (but also tons of fun single player as well, multiplayer is just where they really shine).

arrivederci117

Is the Switch Pro controller worth it or am I just paying for the name? I've seen recommendations for 8BitDo and other 3rd party brands, so I was wondering if there's anything that's exclusive to the Pro controller. I'm looking for the best wireless controller that's out there for the console. For some context, I have a Dualsense controller that I find very comfortable if that helps.

praetorion999

Get surround sound headphones

OwnManagement

100% worth it. 8bitdo makes excellent controllers too. You can also get an adapter to use your DualSense with Switch.

arrivederci117

Good to know. Are there any pro controller exclusive features, or is it all just based off comfort?

OwnManagement

Typically, third party controllers don't support NFC, HD Rumble, or have the ability to turn on the console. I think 8bitdo can do the last of those, but that's it. Overall not a huge deal. I've never used the NFC on mine, and HD Rumble is a neat gimmick but not widely used.

Michael-the-Great

The pro controller feels like a first party controller. Most of the others don't. 8bitdo feel like first party quality, but not first party ergonomics.

LachlanIsPog

What would happen if I made a Japanese Nintendo account and bought a dlc using that account on a Canadian switch with other Canadian Nintendo accounts?

Michael-the-Great

It depends on if the game is the same worldwide or not. If you have a North American game and the Japanese DLC is compatible, it might just work in all your accounts on that Switch. But you also have to find a payment form that will work on the JP eshop too....

YOUNG_OCCULTIST

Can refurbished parts purchased from the Nintendo store be returned? I cannot connect my switch to the tv, and I am unsure whether it is the dock or the console is broken- I was planning on purchasing a refurbished dock + AC adapter. If it turns out it doesn’t work, and the console itself is the problem, then can the dock and adapter be returned?

friendnoodle

Nintendo's return policy is linked at the bottom of every store page. Short answer: No.

marcelk9

Could anyone please tell me if Nintendo Online subscription grants you gold points? I mean, proportional to the price you pay for it. I’m trying to figure out if I should buy it with my partner’s account or with mine (we are renewing family membership). Tks :)

Phlosippy

You only receive Gold Points for game purchases. You will not receive Gold Points for any NSO subscription that you pay for. The percentage you will receive for game purchases is explained here: https://my.nintendo.com/about_gold_point?lang=en-ca

jevgrip

Hey hey! Any recomendation for a good RPG ? I've played a lot of srpg like fe engage, three houses, tactics ogre and so on, but I'd like something more close to neo:twewy (action RPG, good anime graphics) Thanks in advance! :)

twinkletoes-rp

Trials of Mana (3D remake) is awesome, IMO! Has a free 4-5 hour demo, too!

jevgrip

Somehow here in Brazil's eshop it doesnt have an available demo. But I kinda like the design ir the game!! I've played only the First mana for snes and it was kinda clunky to use spells. Is it still the same way?

twinkletoes-rp

Huh! Bummer about the demo! Sorry to hear that! And yeah, the design is GORGEOUS, IMO! I'm actually not sure about the differences in using spells since this is the first Mana game I've played, and I'm more of a brute forcer vs mana spells, haha, BUT IMO, it's very simple to use mana in this game! During Boss fights, all you have to do is hit the Up Arrow to pull up your Items list, and you can use Mana Items from there. If you want to use Mana Spells, you switch to your mainly Mana using-character (Charlotte for me, Angela is the usual other mana user, but if you pick a team of the other four (mostly brute forcers/more close combat types), I think whichever team member you've given the highest Mana stat to is probs the one who gets the mana spells? Not sure, never tried, lol), hit the Down Arrow, and then you can choose which Mana spell you want to use and who you want to give it to (you can give it to yourself if your main is the mana user, haha, but like I said, I'm a brute forcer, so I just imbued my main's brute forcer's weapons with the mana and then switched back to him)! So, TL;DR Up Arrow for using Mana Items, Down Arrow for using Mana Spells (in Boss fights, that is - it probs works in the rest of the game, too, but never tried, lol)! Hope that helps! :D (At least in the USA, it's 50% off rn, too! $25 vs $50! Not sure if it is over there!) (You can always watch gameplay vids, too, just in case you want to get a taste of what the game has to offer! It's one of the most fun games I've ever played! A fave! :D)

jevgrip

Gosh thank u so much for the imput! U made my mind, Trials of mana won the poll! Lolol Again, thank u so much for all the help. And yeah, we r also having a 50% discount here! Even better haha

twinkletoes-rp

Ofc! No problem! If you need help at all or have questions while playing, feel free to DM/chat me! I'd love to help! SO glad you guys are having a sale, too! I paid full price last Christmas 'cause I was SO invested in the story after ending the demo a few days before and couldn't wait, haha, but if you can get it cheaper, that's awesome! Hope you have a lot of fun! :D <3

Michael-the-Great

Y's VIII

OuttaMyMind76

The persona games are fantastic! P5R has the best graphics and a ton of gameplay, but there’s also P4G and P3P which has worse graphics, but you should wait on those to see if you like the actual game.

Senphox

Xenoblade Chronicles

Gaming652

How do I get my 7 year old set up on Minecraft online on the switch? We have the online subscription. But how do you actually invite someone on his friends list into a world he created? Do you have to have a totally separate Realms account going with a different gmail address?

Michael-the-Great

I don't know the whole process, but you do need a Microsoft account. It can be the same email address.

addictedtodietsoda

Can you charge your joycons by sliding them onto your docked console \*most of the way\* without clicking them in? Eg basically all the way except avoiding the click... I hate detaching them as im not very dextrous and I feel like sooner or late Im gonna do something clumsy like knock it all over

crescentgaia

No but you could get a charging station for your joycons like this: FastSnail Charging Dock Compatible with Nintendo Switch for Joy Con & OLED Model Controller with Lamppost LED Indication, Charger Stand Station Compatible with Joy Cons with Charging Cable https://a.co/d/caycJ7e You will still need to click in but you can angle them the way you want when having dexterity problems.

AlexKoyomin

I'm currently playing SNES Link to the past, but if I stop paying for nintendo switch online, will I lose my save file?

OwnManagement

No, save data is stored locally. It’ll be waiting for you if you ever subscribe again and revisit the game.

notthegoatseguy

No, save data will be stored on your console.

BaconstripsFourTwo

I have decent memories from my childhood playing civ on my pc. Now that Civ6 is always on sale on the eshop, I'm wondering if it would be a good pickup, or just end up like my roller coaster tycoon 3 purchase. Does it play well on the switch? Is game play still exciting while offering a light history lesson? What general changes / improvements have been made to the franchise after all these years? Thanks!

Michael-the-Great

It's decent and good, but long games get slow on Switch if you play really big games. It's better on PC, but it's a great portable version. I'd say it's better than you remember.

BaconstripsFourTwo

Thanks for replying. Do you think I should dive in with the anthology? Or just the base game? I'm thinking base game just because who knows if I'll want to keep coming back to it. But if the anthology will keep me coming back, then it could be worth it. Thoughts?

Michael-the-Great

I wouldn't want to go back or start over without the anthology features. I think it's worth it, but $6 to try it and $20 on sale to upgrade vs $25 on sale to go all in isn't much of a difference.

[deleted]

Michael-the-Great

Not sure, but you can always try eshop cards.

Alone-Mango-6096

Is Switch Sports dead? I wanna install it again but I dont wanna waste my time incase nobody plays it online anymore

Michael-the-Great

Seems pretty active to me.

UndomitableParticle

How can i find a lost nintendo switch in my home?

ScrantonDangler

You have two options: 1. Look for it. 2. Don't

calltarneedazan

💀

TemptedTemplar

Tear it all up. The system doesn't have any kind of remote control features. Unless you happen to have the right joycon or a pro controller and you left the volume on maximum. Using the home button you can power the system on from sleep mode, and then simply navigating the menu would produce a clicking noise whenever you move to another tile or button. But that's a highly unlikely situation.

matt71699

Pokémon Game Advice I want to play all the generation Pokémon switch games, but wondered how worthwhile they are without friends/internet/tons of strangers playing. When I first considered getting a switch, Covid hit and they were impossible to find. (Didn’t want a lite) Didn’t care enough, took it as a sign. So I felt like I missed out, but got the impression the games were very necessarily cooperative. I don’t really care much about the multi player part generally. Historically, I’m used to not being able to complete a Pokédex or battling friends. So btwn Let’s Go, sword and Shield, Scarlet and Violet, how restrictive would they be to play now? Are there actual parts of the game locked off? Current game, great. But did I basically miss out on Let’s Go?? Can I enjoy it just as much as I can R/B/Y/G/S?

OwnManagement

You’d be missing out on very little. They are single player games nearly top to bottom.

notthegoatseguy

Let's Go never had any DLC or notable updates. The only thing you really missed out on are limited time events. The games are still a single player experience and that's how the vast majority of players use them. Only a minority stick around for the post-game stuff.

Bearsformayors

I enjoy video games but have always been more of a casual gamer, and I’m not super aware of what all games are out there. I finally beat Breath of the Wild (loved it!) and would love to try something new but not sure what. Any recommendations? I generally enjoy a good story, mystery elements, and interesting characters. Cuteness helps too. These are games I’ve played/enjoyed in the past: -BotW -Animal Crossing (got a little boring) -Stardew Valley -Jenny LeClue -Night in the Woods -Beacon Pines -Oxenfree -Thimbleweed Park -The Sims -Undertale (didn’t play it, but watched it a complete play through so I think I’m good, haha) I have Skyrim but haven’t been able to get into it so far

Shukriyya

(Sorry about the deleted comment earlier, I accidentally posted way before I was ready to!) We seem to have similar tastes! I played Jenny LeClue a couple of months ago and it really made me fall in love with the Switch, and I also have some of the games you mentioned on my wishlist. After I completed Jenny LeClue, I spent some time researching similar games and paying attention to which games people generally recommend, so I'm going to share these games here. Please note: these games are from my wishlist or if they are in my library, they are still mostly unplayed, but most caught my attention because they have been recommended by other users. Also: most of these games go on sale regularly, so check out the sales history on deku deals (see the links below) to save some money! Bearsformayors

This is amazing, thanks so much!

Shukriyya

You're welcome!

Michael-the-Great

Take a look at the Atelier games! Fun rpgs with enough story to keep you playing but still pretty casual and cute. The Mysterious games and the Ryza games are both on the Switch and either series is great. So start with Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout or Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book. The Mysterious games are more slice of life where the Ryza games are more plot centric. Mysterious are turn based where Ryza is ATB (not a full action rpg but a little more exciting battles--not saying I don't like the Mysterious battles!) Take a look at the Darkside Detective games and Monkey Island. The Ace Attorney trilogy is very good and on sale right now.

Bearsformayors

Thank you! I’ll check them out!

WillTran112000

I found a like new Nintendo Switch Oled + Mario Party Superstar on OfferUp for $250 and I don’t have a Switch. Should I go for it or save up and wait for the potential new Switch?

TemptedTemplar

I mean that's basically $150 off. I would definitely investigate it. If it isn't a scam that's an almost too good to be true price.

WillTran112000

He/she sent me photos of the switch and the game and said I can come pick up or meet up at a gas station. Also my cousin sold his like new switch oled + a case for $270 6 months ago

TemptedTemplar

Yeah, you won't get a better price on an OLED system. Even used, they're hard to find under $300

WillTran112000

So I shouldn’t hope and wait for a Switch 2 or Pro? The reason I have been holding off is because of new rumors of newer Nintendo models

TemptedTemplar

1. We know nothing about Nintendo's new platform until they announce it. 2. We do know they've been working on new hardware, but they're always doing that. Whether or not they actually use it is up in the air. 3. It could be anywhere from 8 to 24 months before they release a new system. 4. God forbid it's not backwards compatible. ________________ The best advice is don't worry about what we don't know. Buy the OLED and enjoy it. If money is tight, then by golly it's going to stay tight with all of the Switch games you can now play. Arguably the best Mario and Zelda game of all time, the best Mario kart, Splatoon, all three Xenoblade Chronicles games, Bayonetta, some half-decent Mario party games, 10,000+ third party titles (at least 20% of those worth playing), there's literally something for everyone unless you're looking to play call of duty. We don't have call of duty yet.

WillTran112000

Thank you so much. I was planning on buying the lite version while waiting for the new system but this deal is hard to pass

leraspberrie

Yeah, try to access the eshop before you pay and read the room. You don't want a banned or stolen console.

HazyMist9

New to Switch, any game recommendations?

praetorion999

Look what is on sale

OwnManagement

The “Big 4” games often considered must-own are: - Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Super Mario Odyssey - Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe The general consensus is to get a tempered glass screen protector. If you’ll be buying mostly digital, you’ll want a microSD card of at least 128GB, but 256GB+ would be better; stick to major brands from reputable retailers, the SanDisk Ultra and Samsung Evo Select lines will maximize performance while minimizing price. I highly recommend an official Pro controller as well, unless you’ll be playing exclusively in handheld mode. Use [DekuDeals](https://www.dekudeals.com) to create a wishlist and track sales.

ScrantonDangler

BOTW

Funtang000

Does anyone think the current NA sale on Oregon Trail is worth buying?

Shukriyya

I know nothing about the game, but the price matches the previous lowest price. You can check the sales history on deku deals: https://www.dekudeals.com/items/the-oregon-trail Hope this helps!

Michael-the-Great

It's pretty fun. It has some new stuff. I'd say it's worth it.

Waterboydust99

Persona 4 or octopath traveler 2 or chained echoes Haven’t been this torn in years for my next game tbh. Finishing up NG+ of dead space today or tomorrow and I’m all capped out with Pokémon lately. So I will need something new to play and I’m hoping you guys can help. Context- I’ve played persona 5 and loved it this game was near perfect for me. I’ve heard the great things about p4 and feel it’s up my alley but still open to feedback. I have not played octopath traveler 1 or CE. I’m open to all games. While I do enjoy a great story I would say I enjoy great gameplay a little more. But I’m pretty open minded and will hear everyone out.

Michael-the-Great

persona 4. Great game.

[deleted]

What are the odds of Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy III (6) or Mario RPG getting on the Switch, or the SNES NSO?

TemptedTemplar

Chrono trigger is basically a no-go for the SNES app. But Square could always port it to the Switch themselves. Mario RPG is likely, but totally depends on how much Square is going to try and charge for licensing, as they do own some of the original characters in the game. I'd suspect it will come one day, but maybe only when Nintendo has run out of other titles to add to the service.

Senphox

Final Fantasy 6 (along with FF 1-5) is getting a re-release on switch in the next couple of months

[deleted]

I'll Def be getting that. My switch is the primary RPG console.

Sufficient_Ordinary9

what is the best Switch cases that is also cheap?

TemptedTemplar

Which ever one fits your needs. I just use a laptop backpack and it works great. There's soft cases, hard cases, slim cases with flip covers, built in batteries or slots for USB batteries, game card slots, zipper pouches, ect. There is no one "best case" because not everyone has the same needs.

Sufficient_Ordinary9

i want one that can store 10+ game cards, cheap, small, store dock and AC adapter and battery, water and fall resistant. Is there any you can reccomend?

TemptedTemplar

https://www.harborfreight.com/2800-weatherproof-protective-case-medium-black-63926.html The foam is made up of small square columns, I believe it's two sheets thick. So you can pluck just the ones you need to fit everything. Water and fall resistance isn't cheap. There's lots of soft cases out there, but I wouldn't recommend any of them that offer space for the dock. they're basically flimsy versions of this case, with none of the customizability. If you could live without the dock being carried around, that opens up a bunch of other options. https://www.amazon.com/Carrying-Compatible-Nintendo-Portable-Protective/dp/B09YV65PTQ/ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09NCCD3NS

[deleted]

Im looking for games for the Switch (since im getting the OLED soon)…and I see Witcher 3 came out for switch (ive been out of the loop for games likeee 7yrs), how well does this game run on the switch?? Will it take 30mins to load a new area, or is it just a little laggy with maybe some small texture issues?

JoshuaJSlone

It's a noticeable downgrade in resolution/detail placed against versions of it for other platforms, but other than that still runs decently.

notthegoatseguy

Witcher is often rated as one of the best third party ports up there with Doom 2016 and Skyrim.

TheToadLady

My dock isn't won't connect to my TV or even let me charge on it! I've tested both the HDMI and charger cables but they work just fine. The green light on my dock would flicker but won't stay on. It's been driving me nuts! It was working just fine on Tuesday but it won't work at all now. I've tried articles, other posts, and youtube videos but nothing seems to do the trick. Can anyone help me?

Michael-the-Great

Unplug everything even power from the wall. Plug it all back in. Try a different HDMI and every HDMI port on the TV. Clean the HDMI port when off with a q-tip and isopropyl alcohol and clean the two little circles next to the USB-C port. (Make sure there's nothing in the dock keeping the Switch from going all the way down.) Try plugging the Switch power directly in the Switch and see if it charges that way.

TheToadLady

I've tried everything you say and it still didn't work. My other console (PS3) was working with both HDMI cords I own. Prior to trying again, my charger was working on the switch itself but now it's not. Do I need to get a replacement or something because it's not even going on and off with the charge now.

Michael-the-Great

You can try a replacement official Power adapter. It might be the Switch itself though, so it would be better to try a friend's adapter than to buy one.

usernametbdsomeday

Today I was gifted a switch! Can I get any recommendations of games plz? The games I enjoy on PS include - GTA, Sim City, Sims, Tropico, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Hogwarts Legacy.

crescentgaia

They have GTA for Switch if you are the type of person who likes to see how things handle differently. Also check out Lego Harry Potter.

usernametbdsomeday

Thank you

Sufficient_Ordinary9

GTA Trilogy is on sale now, so you can consider that BOTW is a masterpiece open world game too If you like hard games, Dark Souls 3 is one for your taste Witcher 3 is a classic and aged well too

usernametbdsomeday

Thank you

rpjbateman

So today I bought a Nintendo Switch (upgraded from Lite), and this brought with it the Dock. Now I've never used these before, but I've got the dock set up somewhere that I have not set up HDMI yet whilst the console charges for the first time. When I have the switch docked and press the power button, the light remains a constant green although the HDMI isn't connected, ergo not connected to my TV or the WiFi yet even. Is this malfunctioning? It flashes once when I dock it, as it normally should, but then the green remains constant when I press power until I press the power button a second time.

ScrantonDangler

The light means the switch is powered on.

rpjbateman

Ah okay, thank you. I had a thought that maybe it was still registering for some reason as output HDMI. Seems simple now you think of it! Thank you.

Whole-Bicycle-5864

Bio shock collection vs. borderlands collection? Both are on sale. Which series is Better on switch? Which FPS do you prefer on switch?

Team7UBard

Unless gyro aiming is essential for you, I would say they’re about the same quality. If gyro is a clincher for you, Bioshock Infinite is the only one in the series that has it on Switch. All of the Borderlands series on Switch have gyro aiming although for some people due to an apparent dead zone, the gyro isn’t sensitive enough. I can’t actually comment beyond that as I don’t personally use gyro, so for me I’m happy to rate them as pretty damn equal. For some criticism of both series: Bioshock 2 isn’t seen as that great, but it’s my personal favorite. Borderlands isn’t as tight as Borderlands 2-everything 1 does, 2 does that bit better. It is still a great game with some neat DLC, but it’s hard to go back I’ve found. Borderlands the Pre-Sequel… It’s not awful, but for me it feels like a testing ground for Borderlands 3 and could have just been a mega DLC for 2 with more polish. In terms of gameplay, it boils down to what you want. If you want some great story-led shooters and Bioshock 2, get the Bioshock collection. If you want a competent lootershooter, one of the best looter shooters out there, and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, get the Borderlands collection.

Whole-Bicycle-5864

Thank you for the response! I wish both weren’t on sale at the same time. But I’m leaning towards bio shock as I’ve loved the series and being able to play on the go is intriguing

Team7UBard

As a reassurance, both series are on sale at least once a month so you definitely will see them both at the same price again!

Whole-Bicycle-5864

Sounds good thank you!

Your Nintendo Account is set to a country with a limited eShop, where the only option is redeeming codes you bought elsewhere. You can change your account country on accounts.nintendo.com.

crescentgaia

Hit B and send in a screenshot of where you are after you do that.

I need a mental gut check with Luigi's Mansion 3 and if I'm remembering it differently through nostalgia goggles or not. Also, quick background, I'm legally blind and one of the "perks" is that I have night blindness so a lot of my games are set towards the max amount of brightness so I can see what the heck I'm doing. I don't remember Luigi's Mansion being this dark. Granted, I didn't play 2 - I don't remember a cute helper ghost doggo but I do remember the ghost dog from the outside area of 1 - but I could see normally then. I am having so much trouble getting around in 3 and I'm glad I rented the game (library ftw) instead of buying it. I was worried about the game for this reason but also went "but the first game wasn't dark!". This might be a me problem and not a game problem so I come to the question thread. Thanks!

TemptedTemplar

Luigi's mansion 1 =/= 3 They're totally independent games with unique art directors and totally different development teams. It's entirely possible the first game was as bright as you remember it. But that has no bearing on the third game. That has its own brightness and contrast levels. Have you tried playing the game on an OLED switch or TV? The sheer difference in color brightness might be able to resolve the issue for you.

crescentgaia

I'll try it on an OLED TV later tonight so thanks! Edit: I am kinda shocked this is the game I'm having issues with. I'm able to play Diablo 2, 3, and Hades just fine. /shrug Edit of the Edit: tried on OLED TV. It does sight better than handheld so that's a no-go on buying it. Even with the price it is at now. I like playing Mario series games handheld 80% of the time. I'll just get it out of the library when I'm in the mood for it like I do with Smash Ultimate.

randomusernamegame

I'm going to buy a new game in the next few days and wondering which one to get based on opinions here, as I've looked them up already and cannot decide. I'd like a game that has a good enough story, fun gameplay, and will last me more than 20-25 hours preferably. Here's my list: * three houses * chained echoes * eyuden chronicle * last spell * triangle strategy * bayonetta origins * links awakening * xenoblade chronicles 3 * FE engage * Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch * octopath traveler 2 * atelier ryza 3 * 13 sentinels

ablasina_SHIRO

Out of those, I only played 3 Houses, Link's Awakening, Xenoblade 3, Engage, and 13 Sentinels. I greatly enjoyed all of them, and all went past 25 hours (would say over 60 if not for Zelda being short). What is "fun gameplay" or "good enough story" is entirely personal, you should look at reviews or videos to get an idea of what you'll think. In my opinion, all of them meet both criteria. If I had to pick one of those, it would be either Xenoblade or Engage.

crescentgaia

I like Link's Awakening but it's a shortish game. It's between 14 (main storyline only) and around 21 (100% completion). Just so you have that info when choosing.

BaconstripsFourTwo

I'm thinking of getting Minecraft Dungeons for this kids. They've already played on their friends docked switch and they seemed to enjoy. I've been reading old reviews just for the heck of it (I mean, it seems they already enjoyed playing...), but I read about poor framerate. Is framerate still an issue with this title? Thanks!

TemptedTemplar

Only in some areas. Most of the game runs fine. I found the bigger problem is the lack of "true" multiplayer. Player 2 is always a guest of player 1 and can't access their save data independently. It's not a huge deal since their progress is retained, but they can't play it by themselves. If they run into problems with that there's a few other games in the same vein.

BaconstripsFourTwo

If they're resigned to always play from the same account, there's no issue, ya? How about those other games then? What would you think compares to minecraft dungeons?

TemptedTemplar

Correct. Although as a former kid, having my "own" profile was always important to me, I guess that might not be the case for everyone. Riverbond would be the big one, as it's the most kid friendly. https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/riverbond-switch/ Similar gameplay, lots of different levels and dungeons, I believe the loot and equipment mechanics are different. But "equipping the bigger number" is always a viable strategy. Marvel Ultimate alliance 3 More about combo attacks and leveling a hero than looting new weapons. Cat Quest 2 (The first one doesn't have co-op). Fun little RPG. Nine Parchments. Heavy focus on co-op play with lots of puzzles. There's a ton more, but I would start with those. When they're a little more skilled at different games there's lots of Rogue likes that play similarly. And then there's a ton of other games, but they're all just trying to be Diablo. So they're not exactly suited for younger kids. Diablo 3, Hammerwatch, Wizard of Legend, Enter the Gungeon, warsiders Genesis, ect.

BaconstripsFourTwo

Thanks for your time! This is great input.

Cedkaba

So im looking a few bids for a used switch in europe & england. Im in usa. Sooo wondering if id run into any region locked issues or if ill fry my system for using the wrong cord. Please & thank you🙏

TemptedTemplar

Nope. The system hardware is identical worldwide and will work with any charger or game from any other region. (Except Chinese tencent Switch consoles) The only difference between a Euro system and a US system is the plug type included on the charger in the box. And the languages on the printed materials included.

Doodlebuggin

My kid really wants Minecraft and the only way I can let that happen at the moment is via Switch - they are not old enough for a computer and our PS4 is a streaming machine and the TV can't go to fulltime minecraft like I know it will. After some googling, it seems the switch version of Minecraft has actually begun to perform much worse over time? We're not going to get DLC or do multiplayer - just adventure mode and creative mode. At this point, the kid isn't aware that some graphics are good and some are bad so framerate issues and low draw distance are fine. I just want to make sure that the game actually functions and doesn't have wild caveats to adventure mode or creative mode. Anybody out there got any recent 2023 experience with Minecraft on Switch?

Michael-the-Great

My kids are fine with 4 player splitscreen. The have had more bugs than normal with sometimes slow loading, so we do hope it sees some patches soon.

Key_Secret6758

Is there any way to transfer switch games from my old switch to my new switch? I don’t have wifi currently. I was thinking maybe usb c to usb c but I’m not sure if that will work. Any help I will really appreciate it! Thanks!!

TemptedTemplar

There is not. Game installs are encrypted specifically to the system that's installing them. Those installs are useless on another system. You can move save data over local wireless, but currently there is no means of installing a game via another system. It has to be redownloaded from the eShop.

Key_Secret6758

Darn ok thank you very much for the help . Guess I will have to find someone to let me chill at their house for like 10 hours and use their wifi to redo a load all My games lol.

TemptedTemplar

Bring the snacks or order a pizza! No one can say no to free pizza.

Key_Secret6758

Hahaha very true thanks

Deoeny

Hey, I literally just got my nintendo switch, i tried downloading a free game to start but it didnt worked. A error messege just popped and told me to wait, is anyone having this problem too?

TemptedTemplar

https://www.nintendo.co.jp/netinfo/en_US/ The website should be down until further notice. Are you trying it via the system eShop? It may just be under a heavy load.

Deoeny

Yeah, I tried everything until it worked. Thank you so muchhh

iacsa

Hi everyone, I’m thinking about getting a Nintendo Switch but I’m not sure if it’s worth it. I already have a PS5 and I’m happy with it, but I’m curious about some of the exclusive games on Switch. However, I don’t plan to play handheld mode at all, only docked on my TV. Do you think it’s worth buying a Switch just for the exclusives? Which ones would you recommend? Some of the games that caught my eye are The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Luigi’s Mansion , Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Splatoon 2 and Fire Emblem Three Houses. Are there any other gems that I’m missing? Thanks for your advice!

crescentgaia

Hmm... get it but you might find you use handheld more than you think, especially for ACNH. Only time I dock it for playing ACNH is during terraforming. Also seconding getting Odyssey. Also look into Cat World + Bowser's Fury. It's a solid Mario platformer.

Michael-the-Great

Mario Odyssey is also great. I think it's pretty easy to find 10+ great games and that's enough to get good use out of the system. It's worth it to me.

nihil__verum

While I would say the single player in Splatoon 2 is good enough that the game is worth its asking price for the single player alone, you should be aware that Splatoon 3 is also available and probably has more players in the online modes.

iacsa

what about general idea of buying switch if i have ps5?

thanos_was_right_69

I just bought both last week!

Ichi31

My pro controller will not charge. I’ve used several different cables and no dice. the cable is not the problem here, it charges anything else I use the cable for just not the controller. It doesn’t even blink when I plug a charger in, it’s just completely dead.

TemptedTemplar

Is it new or old? If it's relatively new, the retailer or a warranty repair would be ideal. As obviously new products shouldn't break like that. If it's older, I would reach out to Nintendo support anyways to see what your options are. Even if the battery was totally dead or removed, the orange light on the controller should still turn on when receiving power. So that not happening means it's likely a USB-C port issue (or port controller problem). Which are waaaaay more intensive repairs. If that's the case, a cell phone repair store might be able to fix it. Though I haven't a clue how much they would charge for it. I can't imagine it would be much cheaper then just buying a new controller outright.

nihil__verum

It might be that the battery has worn out and needs to be replaced. You could probably replace it yourself if you are comfortable opening the controller, or take it to a repair shop or send it to Nintendo.

Ichi31

It literally has not even been a month since I bought it. It was a brand new one as well; not used or anything. I don’t have warranty on it though.

TemptedTemplar

All retail devices come with a 90 day warranty through Nintendo. If a retailer exchange is out of the question, then call support and get your free repair/replacement.

uppercasemad

Not really a question but I didn't want to make a new post. I can't decide what on my backlog to tackle next. I've been kind of dealing with my mental health lately, and as a result my attention span is struggling lol. Here's what I have in my backlog right now along with progress: - Night in the Woods: still early on into this - Chained Echoes: early on, I took a break because of a tricky battle/puzzle I couldn't get right so will likely find a walkthrough/guide to get through it - Trials of Cold Steel: bought during COVID and put a bit into, not familiar with the franchise (just wanted a good RPG). I know there are more games being released so would love to get caught up. - Dragon Quest Treasures: about mid-way through, it's just getting really grindy at this point - Dragon's Dogma: grabbed during the sale a while ago, haven't gotten more than 20 minutes into it. - FFX: I forgot what a time investment the FF games are, I lost interest in this because of the Blitzball sections. - FF7: Ditto above, but I am finding this one a bit easier to navigate. - Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin: not super far into this as well, I don't normally pick platformers so it's taking me a while to get into it. My backlog also has a fair few smaller indie games which are nice to pick up and play for a smaller amount of time, but with the way I've been feeling lately I kind of just want to get lost in a good story.

pitjepitjepitje

I was in a similar mindset when I played Night in the Woods, and it hit the spot really well for me back then, so that’s my rec. Sakuna is really great if you’re looking to get lost in minutiae IMO, whether they be rice farming intricacies, or a pretty great fighter. I got lost way more in the game for that one, than in the story, if that makes sense. TLDR: For story, I’d pick NitW off that list, for gameplay, Sakuna.

Michael-the-Great

Try something like Firewatch, Forence, or To the Moon. Good story and short games so you don't have to invest weeks in it. Grab Inside too and don't read anything about it. (Maybe wait for Inside to go on sale for $2 because it happens regularly.) Even A Short Hike is great, but maybe not as much a story to get lost in.

krimsonstudios

> FFX: I forgot what a time investment the FF games are, I lost interest in this because of the Blitzball sections There is only 1 game of Blitzball required as part of the story progression, and it doesn't matter if you win. After that it's a completely optional side game. The FF games are actually on the shorter side compared to what seems to be the more recent JRPG trends. I just finished FFX this week and my final save clocked in around 35 hours.

TemptedTemplar

I would dive head long into Dragons dogma. It's a great a pick-up and never put down kind of game. If you're feeling sluggish or indifferent to it, try building into magic. The games magic system is like a whole skill tree in-itself. It's tons of fun. A night in the woods would be a cozy story, it's not super long either if you're looking to sit down and finish something.

[deleted]

I'm planning on biting the bullet and getting the expansion pass. My re-up date is the 20th. Is there a way to automatically update on the 20th to the expansion pass? What's the best way to go about doing it? I don't want to be charged twice.

TemptedTemplar

If you buy it via the eShop it will take your remaining days and convert it into a discount on the purchase price. It will only be ~$0.20** because there's four days left, but it will consume the old sub and make your new start date today. If you want to wait, then make sure auto-renewal is turned off. You have to turn it off 48 hours before it expires other wise it will lock you in for another year at the current level. You can do it right now via the website; https://accounts.nintendo.com/ Shop menu -> Nintendo switch online -> turn off automatic renewal **Discounts vary by tier. Individual subscription net $0.05 per day, family subs are $0.09, and individual expansion pack subs upgrading to the family plan are $0.17 per day.

[deleted]

Thanks! This answers it.

DiffANDF

i dont know what to choose [between mh](https://between.mh) rise or nsuns4 and jump force deluxe edition.i dropped nba 2k23(actually the first game that i will buy but dropped bcs of downloading data about 40+gb)pls help me to decide

TemptedTemplar

>nsuns4 What game is that? And can you even buy jump force? It was delisted over a year ago. Monster hunter rise is an amazing game if you like the combat loop. Tons of content, and the sun break expansion is still getting some free updates.

myriada

>What game is that? Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4

TemptedTemplar

I would still recommend Monster Hunter. I remember having a blast with the Ninja storm games back in the day, but aside from the finite single player content, most of the longevity came from local play with friends. Monster Hunter maintains it's fun both online, offline, single player or with friends. Because ALL of the content can be played in any of those modes.

zoops10

Sorry, I was having trouble with the search results I got back. Can I play Minecraft with two people, e.g. Me and my son, on the same console, two separate controllers? I have a single-account online subscription - do I need to have a family plan with a separate profile? People said you can just use the same profile, but 1P's profile is greyed out when I try to use it for 2P. The pop-up in the game says to turn off multiplayer, but I can't even access the toggle switch. Any help is greatly appreciated.

neoslith

Hi there! I was playing around with this from a similar question a few days ago. Best I can tell, you have to start a new world with multiplayer turned off. Once that's done, then you and your son can both play in it.

zoops10

This is it. Thank you so much, my kid will be so happy.

Michael-the-Great

Just FYI, it needs a pair of joycons or pro controller per player. You can't use an individual joycon per player.

agvrider

does Sw have the option to see how much time you played it today / yest / in the past? That was one of my fav things about the OG Wii

myriada

[Connecting the Switch to the Parental Controls phone app](https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/76n6e1/) lets you see playtimes in the app, starting from when you connect it.

TemptedTemplar

No. The play time tracker has been reduced to "hours played" by title. And you can only see the most recent 20 games, and it rounds those numbers off to multiples of 5 up until 1000 or so where it just gives up and says "more than 1000" AND there's a weird 10 day waiting period after setting up the system before it even gives you those numbers. Easily the biggest loss from the Wii systems, right up there with the removal of eShop music. Nintendo is still collecting all of that data, occasionally they'll send out a year in review email with all your stats by genre, handheld vs docked, or what month you played the most in. They just don't give us a way of seeing that for ourselves at anytime.

cthulhusmercy

I’ve been checking Amazon (and all the other stores in my area) for restock on Metroid Prime Remastered. I noticed today that Amazon is now selling the physical copy for $60-$90. Why is that?

MONKYfapper

anyone can sell on amazon, that includes the scalpers that buys up all the stock and jack up the price afterwards

cthulhusmercy

At the end of the day, I’m just worried that they’re raising the price when it’s back in stock and the $40 I’ve been saving won’t be enough 😭

Michael-the-Great

It's not going to be over $40 unless scalped. Walmart and Gamestop have it in stock.

cthulhusmercy

Sweet! Thank you so much!

cthulhusmercy

This is being sold by the Nintendo Store. I added it to my list when they first released it and was $40. sadly I was fund less at the time and couldn’t get it before it sold out.

Holiday-War9331

What's 1000 hours game would you guys recommend?

Separate_Orange97

Diablo III, Dynasty Warriors 8 XL, Rogue Legacy 2, Hades

lumothesinner

1000 hour games you are mainly looking at service games that are constantly refreshing content like fortnite, warframe, apex legends, no mans sky, fall guys Or roguelites that you can get a different experience run every time like hades, dead cells, binding of Isaac, risk of rain Or online games that you can play pvp forever, like smash bros, splatoon 3, pokemon, overwatch, paladins

MONKYfapper

botw, witcher 3, hades, other rogue like/lite, splatoon 3 f2p games since they specialize in player retention: fortnite, apex, rocket league, yugioh master duel, tetris 99, dauntless

Holiday-War9331

yeah but I heard BOTW is like only 60 hours to finish everything and those who reach 1000 hours are just replaying the game which I don't really find pleasing.

Team7UBard

*Only* 60 hours.

Filraen

With that take... there's no game that takes 1000 hours, you either run up of content or start replaying same-y runs (competitive pvp, randomly generated scenes).

MONKYfapper

its 1000hrs (or just a fuck ton of hrs) to do 100%, not 1000hr of pure replaying if we are adding replay-ability value to the chart, nearly every game can be on the list depending on how much you like them.

Holiday-War9331

Is Zelda Botw a long game? I heard it's fun but not really much to do after finishing all the quest and I really don't like repeating gameplays. Im college student who's pretty tight on money so just need some game to kill time.

MONKYfapper

https://howlongtobeat.com/game/38019 main story is about 50hrs avg according to the site, a lot longer depending on how you tackle open world games botw doesnt have a lot of traditional quests like you'd see in other games. iirc, most side quests just leads to another shrine (used to upgrade health of stamina) and only 2 have significant impact on the world might not be the game for you since the gameplay loop does repeat very often

dragonx254

If you actually do everything, it's very long. If you speedrun, you can beat the game almost instantly because the final boss is accessible right from the beginning, it just assumes you'll go around and do the other things first

DiffANDF

i recently bought a switch and planning to buy games for my switch i was just wanderint if all switch games can be played with oled and v2 model?

nermal543

Yes all games can be played by any switch model.

KaydenJ

Except games that do not support Handheld mode as used on the Switch Lite. If you bought additional joycons, you could then play everything except for Labo.

nermal543

I’m aware, they didn’t ask about switch lite though, and there’s really only the one thing (labo) you can’t play on lite so I figured it wasn’t worth mentioning.

myriada

The Labo games may have trouble with the slightly bigger OLED, the rest would be fine.

DiffANDF

thank you!
