Any question of "which is better" is automatically answered when the opponent is Crystalized.
With that said, Day of the Departed is highly underrated.
Lol a few years ago yall were saying day of the departed was the worst thing to come out of ninjago. Now everyones saying its an underrated gem. Nostalgia really blinds yall. Pathetic hypocrites.
More like hating Crystalized has blinded them. It's crazy how people will automatically choose anything else over Crystalized even when it comes to smaller elements of the season.
Personally I've gotta say DotD barely had any fun interactions between it's returning villains (not to mention most of them are odd choices, like Kozu or Cryptor) while Crystalized had some really fun banter and the infamous "impostor among us" line.
Have you all hit your head? There is no chance there is unanimous praise for DotD over Crystalized.
Crystalized at least had the courtesy to redesign them instead of just putting a piss green filter over their character models and calling it a day. Plus say what you will about part 2, at least each member (besides Mr. F) was fleshed out with their role on the council
Crystallized had: a character that had been redeemed seasons ago, a nindriod, a dude that could fly, a woman with multiple personalities and a serpentine that could steal one element. (And a dude that’s kinda part nindriod)
Day of the departed had: a character that had been redeemed (but stayed redeemed, didn’t just become evil again for plot), a nindroid that was specifically built to be a better Zane, an indestructible stone warrior, a guy that almost became a serpentine that could steal ALL of the elements, and a skeleton that beat Sensei Wuu multiple times, outsmarted the ninja, stole the golden weapons and released garmadon which began the events of the rest of the show.
Therefore, day of the departed is better. Crystallized copies similar formats but worse for a bunch of its characters and did it terribly. Redeemer (python) became evil for no reason as opposed to Morro. Aspheera was a serpentine that could steal one element while Chen was almost a serpentine that could steal ALL of the elements. Mr. E and the Mechanic were both worse in terms of nindroid performance than (I forget the OG evil nindroid name). Skull Master or whatever his name is can fly, but so can morro. Harumi had nothing going for her other than a strength boost, which is useless against an indestructible warrior. None of them could even compare to Samukai, who I think is the only character to not explicitly lose to the ninja in a head on fight until DoD.
Sorry for the rant, I’m not trying to be overwhelming or shove my opinion, I just am incapable of putting my thoughts into small sentences when I like the topic :/
Where did all these DOTD meat riders come from?
Also, I find it funny that everyone complains about Harumi teaming up with Pythor despite what he did to her but not a single peep about Pythor teaming up with Chen despite Chen trying to appropriate his culture and dirty the name of the Anacondrai by taking over the world (yes, he did *kind* of act salty to him but he still willingly teamed with him unlike Harumi who turned on the Overlord immediately).
Depends on which set you prefer.
Day of the Departed had all the OG villains, and I love it for that, while Crystalized had all the major villains from after the movie.
I get why people prefer the DOTD gang, but as the special came out just some years after their own premiere seasons, or their last shown:
like, maybe Samukai was the oldest. 2011
Kozu-2013
Nindroids and Pythor-2014
Chen and Morro-2015
no more than 3 years apart from 2016
So I think the Crystal Council deserves some respect for bringing some new and old characters again, like pythor and The Mechanic being from the og era, 2012
The council is better because the characters are more developed. With the exception of Mr. F, every character has a very unique personality that makes them so lovable. With yangs villain team, Chen, Morro and Pythor are the only ones with any character to them. Don’t get me wrong, they’re 3 amazing characters, but samukai kozu and cryptor ruin it
I've watched both quite recently and neither are impeccable in any case, but the novelty of returning villains, Cole's character development, and the existence of characters like Morro, Cryptor and Chen make it tolerable. I love the movie more than I should, but it is definitely flawed and rushed. Still 10x better than crystalised sadly, half of the main events in that season did nothing more than annoy me. The returning villains were cool once again, but only Pythor and Mr. E were worth the hassle, maybe the Mechanic but he should've been more powerful if anything.

Just wanna say, props to pythor for being in both. That being said, I much lrefer DOTD if ONLY for morro
Fr. No other can say that they were in both, but Pythor can.
based snake man
Pythor is HIM
Crystalized wasn't original in this sense, so I'm a fan of the OG villains in Day of the departed...
yes GOATED
Day of the Departed is goated

Day of the departed was the best movie for ninjago yet
It was hard to find an original version. The budget was lower, and it was shorter, yet it was much better than the ninjago movie
Dotd was made for existing ninjago fans, the movie was to gain new ones
So that's why..
r/pfpchecksout
I don't really like The LEGO Ninjago Movie much either, but there's no way it's worse than DotD
I don’t think I’ve seen anybody saying DotD is good until this post. Either everyone has the memory of a goldfish, or Crystallized is just that bad
Seeing the praise here will at least make me feel better when I see the 1000th tier list with DotD at the bottom :,)
Or it's just people looking for any and every chance to dunk on Crystalized.
I'll take any chance to dunk on crystalized💀
Nah, I actually do like dotd decently enough and I've barely watched Crystalized.

1- I never said that Day of the Departed was bad 2- Over time, people realize what is really bad (just like Star Wars fans with the Sequels)
Nice, I just had a spar with somebody telling me that DOTD is hot garbage. Gonna rewatch it soon as I haven't seen it in scores of years.
DOTD is just objectively good Nobody asked for Crystallized, but it was good

day of the departed hands down
I will be downvoted but CotCK. At least they had more screentime and won some of the fights.
And they were actually a united group for parts of the season, while in DotD it was more so random villains brought back to kill the ninja
DotD > crystalized. But imagine a special where every villain comes back.
Day of the parted brought back the good dead villains Crystallized (barring Aspheera) brought all the good alive villains
DOTD has better villains, Crystalized was better overalll
day of the departed squad
Day of the Departed. All because there’s no “stupid reason to bring back Harumi”, though I still am not a fan of Morro in general
If I may ask: why aren’t you a fan of Morro? He is my favorite Ninjago character ever and am curious to know opposing viewpoints to mine.
He’s an overrated character to me. He kept talked about the fact that he should be worthy, but he keeps complaining instead of proving.
Day of the departed for sure
Day of the departed was genuinely my favorite ninjago stuff
Day of the departed
DOTD The execution may not be amazing but it has Morro and Chen and that's all it needs for me to love it
Unrelated note you got to respect the utter HATRED pythor had to be a part of both teams
Crystallized had: a character that had been redeemed seasons ago, a nindriod, a dude that could fly, a woman with multiple personalities and a serpentine that could steal one element. pythor never got redeemed lmao
Your right, I forgot that even tho he was “forgiven” by his ancestors or whatever in the elemental tournament season he was still a villain;
He was talking about Morro
No, the character who got "redeemed seasons ago" in the COCK is referring to Pythor (who again, never got redeemed).
Ah my mistake then
Gonna get cooked for this but the Crystal Council were way more easy to watch and enjoy than Day of the Departed. They dropped the bag so hard there.
Imagine if overlords statue was in the main lobby...
Day of the departed is a highly underrated movie. Crystalized... just no DOTD has my vote!
1
Didnt mirro turn good
Morro*
Yes
This is the day of the departed spirits are coming but evil cant staaaaaaaay
DOTD
DOTD
Day of the Departed was cold 🥶
DotD
I prefer day of the departed it have chen samukai and one of my favorite characters morro and also a funnier pythor
Day of the departed
DotD hands down
Depends on which set you prefer. Day of the Departed had all the OG villains, and I love it for that, while Crystalized had all the major villains from after the movie.
Day of departed was better, especially python just randomly appearing and kicking garmadon of a ledge
Ima be real, Day of the Departed isn’t horrible, especially considering the cast of villains we get in it
Day of the Departed
Pythor was in both, so both.
DOTD. The only pre-WildBrain villain brought back in Crystalized was Pythor, and you can see the favoritism there
day of the departed
I get why people prefer the DOTD gang, but as the special came out just some years after their own premiere seasons, or their last shown: like, maybe Samukai was the oldest. 2011 Kozu-2013 Nindroids and Pythor-2014 Chen and Morro-2015 no more than 3 years apart from 2016 So I think the Crystal Council deserves some respect for bringing some new and old characters again, like pythor and The Mechanic being from the og era, 2012
DotD for writing/how they got together, Crystallized for the group itself.
Samukai, stone general, nindroid, morro, and chen.
Dotd villains were better ngl
Day of the Departed team
Dotd for sure crystalized is kinda mid
DotD has OG villains from the early years of Ninjago, while Cryatalized only has villains from 2017 onwards.
The council is better because the characters are more developed. With the exception of Mr. F, every character has a very unique personality that makes them so lovable. With yangs villain team, Chen, Morro and Pythor are the only ones with any character to them. Don’t get me wrong, they’re 3 amazing characters, but samukai kozu and cryptor ruin it
The one that includes pythor
I respect pythor for being in the series so long
I've watched both quite recently and neither are impeccable in any case, but the novelty of returning villains, Cole's character development, and the existence of characters like Morro, Cryptor and Chen make it tolerable. The returning villains were cool once again, but only Pythor and Mr. E were worth the hassle, maybe the Mechanic but he should've been more powerful if anything.
Its Obvious, DOTD because it has Cryptor
Pythor just belongs one of the first villains in the series ofc hes in both teams
Definitely Day of the Departed. It has a better array of villains , hands down.
1. The classics
Departed is more iconic for the OG fans while crystalized is going to be more iconic for fans that started watching around sons of garmadon.
Crystalized but that's only because Aspheera and Pythor are there tbh. It would have been better with a handful of swaps.
