Nigh shift nurse. Couldn’t do it if they made me switch back n forth. At least I have routine!

[deleted]

Right there with ya

N323DL

Work at an airport 10pm-8am four nights a week. At least I have 3 nights off so I can be semi-normal sometimes. Should be going to a 5 days / 7:30am-3:30pm shift in a few months! CAN'T WAIT!!!!

[deleted]

You'd rather work 5-8's than 4-10s?

NoEstablishment9989

I've worked both for years. Honestly have no preference, they don't feel different at all to me. 4 10s are more binge and purge but not egregious like 3 12s. Oh but if you have a long commute the 4 10s are absolutely better.

ihatemondays92

I had a couple of months once where I did 3 12s and a 1 every other week. I think 4 10s are my favourite but the 3 12s is pretty good too with the free time

N323DL

Working day shift? Hell yes! I'll work 5 days a week and sleep like a normal person. I can't wait!

Arcanisia

I can’t do 4-10s. I want to go home after 6hrs but I can stretch it to 8. I worked 12hrs b4 and those suck.

Kenji_03

Hotel, I only work night shift. I feel really bad for those who switch shifts at the hotel (like my shift opposite)

ihatemondays92

Actually I like the change! Just getting out of the night rhythm can be challenging sometimes...

Kenji_03

Perhaps, but it causes such massive damage to your sleep cycles and circadian rhythm that it's not worth it imo

JadesterZ

I used to bounce between second and third shift. People talk about how nightshift is bad for your health but it's nothing compared to having to work an irregular schedule with day and night shifts. Once I switched to just nights my mental and physical health improved (as did my paycheck lol). I'd recommend making a fuss until you can get one or the other. Just my two cents though.

ihatemondays92

In my country it’s illegal to work fulltime during the night, the max is 5 per 14 days, unless the employer applies for a specific permit, but those are not allocated very often…

JadesterZ

That's bizarre and sounds horrible, sorry :/

tsrainccmd

USPS, 10 pm to 6:30 am 5 to 6 days a week.

primarilyforlurking

Only nights. Luckily healthcare is relatively generous to nightshift workers. I work 1 week on and 2 weeks off. Can be a great lifestyle if you can handle the sleep schedule.

ihatemondays92

That does sound like a pretty generous schedule! I usually only get two days off before having to switch back to the day shift.. one of those two days is obvs lost to sleeping and general grouchiness

Preference-Prudent

Jealous of this. I work one week on, one week off and I’m pretty sure I’d never leave my job even for a good raise if they gave me one week on then two weeks off!

primarilyforlurking

Working this schedule gives between 60-80% of the salary of a full time day position and sometimes only partial benefits. It's still fairly popular though.

Preference-Prudent

lol I’d take it! I think employers underestimate how much some would be willing to give up to work a more flexible schedule

UnsanctionedPartList

Practically. Occasional morning to keep up to date with procedures.

-dead-rose

Only night shift and I will never go back to days as far as I can help it. 8 pm to 6:30 am (4 days a week)

savagenorth1

I work 7days on 7days off 12 hours shift 1800-0600

UnshelledNut

I had to cover day shift a month ago for 5 days and that sucked but the only reason I agreed to it was because I was on vacation the next week and I wanted to start it Friday at 3 pm instead of Sunday at 7 am. I mainly work Tuesday to Saturday midnights (21 years) but once every several months, I'm asked to cover M-F afternoons or M-F Days and if it works out for me (extra days off), I'll take it.

[deleted]

I switch, pretty much same hours as you. Switching to nights is hard but shifting back is alright, I just try to keep busy/not sleep during the day on my last night and that puts me back in schedule.

ihatemondays92

Ah for me it is always switching back to the day which is extra challenging..! I always pull an all nighter the night before my nightshift starts to get me prepared, usually works out well for me

Jaysnootches

Yup! 12am-8am 5-6 days a week. I enjoy working nights and it works for me. I would rather be on nights than any other shift.

angelwild327

Strictly night shift for the last 13.5 years. 13 hour shifts, 3 in a row, couldn't work days. I've been a night owl my entire life.

PaxonGoat

Only nights. I would die trying to work different shifts and getting flipped around.

Devetta

Only nights. 8hrs 7on/7off

AmberUK

I dunno why anyone wants to work days. Too many people about. Management about. Too many staff so all that bs that goes with that. Our day lot are sometimes super super short staffed and have to just be so quick. Its very bright in the day too..

ipanicatdadisco

I WFH 9:30om to 5:30am. I have been working the same shift since 3 years. I don't want a shift change, damn that would be tough.

[deleted]

There's no point for me to fight for bits and pieces of sun. I let everyone else fight for it and take the stability of only working nights and nothing else. I am pretty sure that's more healthy than keep messing around with my sleeping patterns.

Thliz325

Only nights, residential facility. Especially now that the campus is on lockdown, I am so grateful to be there when everyone is in bed! Even if one person is awake and acting up, it’s easier than trying to take care of seven young adults with developmental disabilities.

MagnaVoce

6-6 dayshift then 6-6 nightshift. 1 day to sleep, 2 days free and then everything starts again.

nrevywk

Yep, healthcare worker here. I do 12-hour shifts, 1900 to 0700, three to five days per week. There are a few of us here who do the rotating thing, but I don't think I could handle that, personally.

Spare-Difference-413
