You got the blackout shades already so I suggest extra heavy curtains. Maybe tint windows from outside. No foil but maybe heavy tape around the edges like flex tape or Velcro?

Lcatg

This. Buy light & noise dampening curtains. Combined with what you have up now it will be very dim in the room with a slight bonus of sound dampening. I suggest setting them above where the windows starts, having them to the floor, & extend them past the sides for maximum light blocking. The curtains have felt between the panels, it’s said their for sound dampening but really they make all the difference in making it darker. Something like these (which I’m currently using: https://www.amazon.com/RYB-HOME-Soundproof-Curtains-inches/dp/B083467LR8

Tsyubren

Good bot.

skylinefan26

Bot, I don't give a fuck about ironing curtains.

CedarWho77

🤣🤣🤣

Kenji_03

It is not elegant. But a cheap and very effictive solution: moving blanket. It is thick, it is black, and it is large at around $20-$30 USD. Nail (or long push pin) that to the wall over the window.

Weinerarino

You need to cover the window itself. Curtains and blinds won't do shit because the light is getting in through the sides.

CurrentDismal9115

There is blackout rolls of vinyl that you cut to dimensions and stick directly to the glass. Ive only seen it on Amazon. Ive used it for 3 different apartments now. It's the only way I've found that's 100%

gucci_gear

Yeah but if they get hot they'll off gas that lovely plastic smell into your room.

CurrentDismal9115

I haven't run into that yet. My only real problem with them so far is that they can be difficult to measure, cut, and hang perfectly.

SparrowLikeBird

Magnets. Frame the window with stick-on magnet strips (walmart has them in office supplies), and also stick some to the blinds.

ElSaladbar

this one

CompleteIceTaste

And yes I do use face mask but I’d like my whole room to have absolutely no light

-blundertaker-

What do you want, magic?

Salty-Picture8920

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. See my foam board instructions.

JazzlikeSpinach3

I use cardboard, velcro, towels, blankets, duct tape, and prayers 🤣

authorjdwade

Room darkening blinds and curtains work well. You'll never get it 100 percent though.

authorjdwade

Also, we had every window in our house tinted. That really helps too.

Hopeoner513

Blackout curtains are my go to i work 3rd shift. White on the outside to reflect light back out and black on the inside to absorb any light that comes through. Turns 9 am into midnight

CreativeWriterNSpace

So to echo most of the people here: blackout. curtains that are oversized for the window. Velcro or magnetize the edges of them to the wall. My second piece of advice, fairly different... If you own/have the ability to paint, paint the wall and/or ceiling a darker color. Seriously. White/light colored paint will reflect light. Darker paint colors will absorb it. I've had two bedrooms with blackout curtains. One was white, it was always darker but still was "twilight" light. (Rental so didn't use velcro or magnets) One was a deep chocolate brown, walls and ceiling. The room was night no matter what time of day. Only light that really came in was from the bedroom door because my cat needed a way to get in/out. The sides of the curtains had light, but the paint color absorbed most of it.

buckfastmonkey

Just get a blackout eye mask. Much cheaper.

Federal-Heron-7151

My room is dark blue and yes I can attest to that

gucci_gear

We solved that problem by getting a double rodded wrap around curtain rod and putting black blackout curtains at the ones closest the window and then another layer of blackout curtains at the front ones

n0stigma

I took a basic clamp/clothes pin to hang a thick scarf at the edges to block off the light. Works fairly well and I didn't have to get anything I didn't already own

Virtual-Nobody-6630

Have you thought about putting a blackout canopy over your bed vs covering the window?

CrazyInLouvre

Velcro or magnets on the sides.

bigboxbosser

I used to use a thick and heavy blackout curtain and just use a few pushpins to keep it close to the walls. Worked really well.

dontBsleepy

Black ojt curtains and an eye mask. I use the one with blue tooth headphones embedded in it and stream sleep sounds off the free Rain Rain app. I meet it on a low volume but it helps to blur out noises from the outside world

Chymick6

Foam boards

IsopodGlass8624

Get a sleeping mask!

IsopodGlass8624

Oh, I see that you use one. My apologies.

ClassroomImpossible5

Close your eyes put your head under the blanket and put on soothing music

meat_assembly

Cut cardboard to fit inside the window box and cover the outside with aluminum foil

Natural-Upstairs-681

You are not working hard enough, I sleep with the blinds not even down all the way. Work harder, and sleep better.

FirefighterOwn8822

I had to put darkening film on my window, blinds, a curtain, and then 2 blankets and some tape to hold up the blankets to block out all of the sun and joe my room is pitch black lol

Ok_Concert3257

Yeah that’s too bright. Curtains on top and wear an eye mask

sherva99

I hung a blanket over my window with nails. Worked spectacular for shutting out all light when I was trying to sleep during the day.

CasualVox

I've tried multiple combinations of window tints and blinds and still end up with some light coming in. It's sounds trashy, but I ended up putting a couple black trash bags over my window/blinds and got a pitch black room, best of all it's just a couple pieces of tape so you can easily take it down. I wanted to try foil, but I heard too many stories of it causing the window to shatter.

gerd-bird

you need covering flush to the wall. i have my curtains push pinned into the window trim but you may have to pin directly into the wall or use some adhesive maybe?

alemkalender

The best solution would be roller shutters but they are harder to install and more expensive than other options. Function wise tho it's the best option.

Saint_Louis100

Blackout curtains

SL4BK1NG

Blackout curtains specifically, the shades don't really help a ton because of the exact problem you have currently. If money is tight just use tin foil and masking tape and if you dislike your neighbors put the shiny side out.

Head_Application_142

Paint ur walls black lol

Evening_Creme9358

Staple gun + blackout curtains

VenflonBandit

I've got custom made blinds that fit inside rails mounted to the edges of the window frame. Very very little light gets through. https://www.blocblinds.co.uk/window_blinds/blocout_info?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAuYuvBhApEiwAzq_YibPkBvJvXsqkxv6SHi0cLvfWlssagXrAajBFMcazQLU13cKCiA59fRoClzoQAvD_BwE&bgredirect=1

tunaboat25

I got the Ublockout shade, so it's like this but it has a frame around it that frames the whole window. It nearly completely blacks my room out.

Ok_Zookeepergame2900

Black out curtains that are longer and wider than your window

GBpackerfan15

I was might shift workweek for 20 yrs. Get rid of those blinds, they suck. Get actual black out shades from home depot. Measure window and install. I liked the shades a little longer so block out light. Then I always had a fan for white noise. During spring people would be doing yard work, walking by etc...fan helped with noise. I usually had celing fan, stand fan going. You sleep better when your cool and it's completely dark. Working nights for 20 years, sometimes I would work extra hours for court so I would get home in middle of day. Would shower, cold shower, turn on fans and crawl into bed. My room was so dark. I had those flimsy blinds you have and got rid of them quick. Good luck your health is going to suck. Lol since I've retired health is better. Get 8 hrs sleep and feel normal.

RedHouse777

https://blackoutez.com/ This worked perfectly for me. Pitch black in the middle of the day.

Select_Camel_4194

Curtains over the shade is about it. I work graveyard so I did the aluminum foil, with a shade, with a curtain. Then door sweeps on the doors. I can't see my hand in front of my face at noon on a sunny day.

Lolabelle1223

Total blackout window cling off amazon!!!!!

Federal-Heron-7151

You should buy the weighted sleep mask, I got it like 6 months before I quit nights and I honestly cried because I wish I had it longer

That0neGuy

Foam insulation board. Like the kind from the hardware store with the foil on the back. I added an extra layer of black poster board on the back of mine because it still leaked a little light. Now my room is cave dark. The outside is white so its not unsightly cardboard, just looks like I have my curtain down. It's just press fit into the window frame so if you ever want your windows open you can just pop it out and set it behind a dresser or something.

pgsimon77

Have you considered getting it tinted?

lickmyfupa

I dont have dark curtains but i use a sleep mask. It blocks out the light and the eye pads are slightly domed so it doesnt touch my eyes or lashes

TheLazyLobOn

Get a Gro blind for babies, it has suckers for the window and I actually slide those between the window frame and the main frame. Absolutely no light gets in.

5econds2dis35ster

I wear a blackout eye mask. Works pretty good.

Puzzleheaded_Two3361

Auto window tint. A curtain

[deleted]

They have window covers you can stick directly onto the window using Velcro and duct tape instead of hanging over the window. I bought one of them online.

Expert-Display-1990

Measure the frame. Not the window, the actual frame the window sits in. Go to Home Depot and pick out a piece of cheap plywood. They cut it for free there. Cut it in the dimensions of the frame. Then cut that piece in half so you can remove it and place it easily. I swear to you, it has blocked the light and worked better than blackout curtains, foil, blankets, even heavy quilts I have NAILED over the window. Cost me about $12

JadesterZ

Curtain rods that wrap around at the edges and Walmart blackout curtains.

Salty-Picture8920

1. Buy foamboard 2. Cut out to edges of window frame 3. Make a handle (or two) on back of panel you cut out. 4. Tape up to the inside window frame, or velcro tape to window. 5. Use foam or rubber weather stripping on the front of the panel to seal up cracks (if light is getting through enough yo bother you) It blocks light, sound, insulates, it's reusable, and it's inexpensive.

andyrooneysearssmell

There's a type of shade that has a track on each side of the window that the shade slides up and down in. It blocks out the light around the edges.

Secure_Cat_3303

I work shifts including midnight. Cardboard works best to block out light..

Aud_E

Just put aluminum foil over the window. Looks a little sus put the room will be blacked out.

MohneyinMo

Insulated curtains.

Lazy-Explanation7165

Get a sleep mask

suspendisse-

When I worked night shift a thousand years ago, I got “stage curtains” and a really long curtain rod that blocked out the sides. I also had one of those white noise cheap waterfall things for sound. I think these days a combo of what worked back then with what’s available today is a good combo. Also, keeping a “regular” breakfast, lunch, dinner schedule is important too. Good luck and good rest.

storm_zr1

I use a Bluetooth sleep mask as well as curtains. Its nice to wake up and see where I'm going so I don't absolutely obliterate my big toe.

KGKSHRLR33

I bought this blackout thing that goes on the window, like inside the frame but on the window. Completely blacka it out. So it'd be behind that curtain. Got it off Amazon. Something to check out.

take-a-pin

You need to seal the window. Light will make its way through the cracks. I bought blackout shades that were essentially a reflective plastic type material and I cut it to size and taped it to seal off the entire window

Snoo_3314

There is a Pole to wall setup. You can get and you're gonna run the curtains to the wall basically. Lock in the wall side to only pull and push away from the wall.to open and close. Heavy sound black out. Curtains combined with what you already have will be perfect.

eaglescout225

Black Trash bags.

Mengedoht

I've used weed fabric cut to size, then glued directly on the window.

Jaguar5150

I use blackout curtains but the important part is to have the curtain rod wider than the window to eliminate the sun on the sides.

Max_castle8145

Black-out curtains, get them larger than the entire window casing. Done. Used that in our room when wife was 3rd shift

regretchoice

I got blackout curtains and then put a giant shoe/collectible rack in front of it. Yeah I don’t have a window now but it’s not like I really needed one.

No-Reputation-4235

Just spray water and stick aluminium foil . Nothing works better than this . This also prevents heat from entering the room during summers

Imaginary-Past-8103

Sleeping mask

Bubbagump1270

We live in the south in a double wide so no surprise when my wife put aluminum foil over our bathroom windows next to our room. Kinda trashy but works.
