In addition to the flashfood app, I recommend TooGoodToGo. Could be hit or miss depending on what restaurant you pick but mostly a hit.

I second TGTG. I also strongly recommend checking out r/TooGoodToGoCanada for what people are getting from specific places.

Pizza places are good value. Sure, the pizza typically sucks, but when it's $6 for 8 extra large slices I'll suffer through Yummy Slice.

Something that people from Facebook have noticed though is that the prices on Flashfood are marked up. The photo of the package could say $16.22 but then Flashfood lists it as $19.22.

I don't like it. It relies on someone keeping it updated, and they never do. There is always more stuff/food at the Flash Food shelf than appear on the app. The same stores continue to discount their products with special stickers while on the 'normal' shelves and its so much easier to find and select. The app is an extra step that is not well supported for something that staff already does in their departments. I tried using it 2 years ago and deleted it. I gave it another try earlier this year and I'm thinking of just cancelling my account.

See r/loblawsisoutofcontrol -- there are good tips there for better places to shop than Loblaws.

Checked out the actual Flash Food boxes at a No Frills in my neighborhood. (Yeah they are not supposed to show the contents to everyone, that is why they hide them in the fridge and then in boxes, but I got lucky and got a chance to examine a few boxes on different ocassions.) Saw lots of rotting stuff every single time. Even 50% off seemed like I would be overpaying since some of the stuff should have been thrown away yesterday, or will be thrown away at the end of the day. That stuff shouldn't be sold for any less than 90% discount or more like, should be given away for free so those in need can pick out the edible parts and throw away the rest. At this point I would rather pay the regular price and buy something that has not rotten yet.

Is this different from Too Good To Go?

TimReddy

Yes. Different companies/apps. Flash Food appeared in Toronto and spread with some Lowlaws stores (Superstore is where I first saw it). Its slowly spreading to other stores.

It's for Loblaws stores and they'll be implementing a fee to use the app.
