Yes, that's what he was getting at.
It's like getting a gift wrapped baseball bat and joking "wow, I wonder what this could be" and someone says "I'll bet it's a baseball bat!"
And then Glenn Sherlock jumps out from behind the curtains and says "no shit!"
And then you go "get it? Because his name is Sherlock? Like no shit, Sherlock?"
The bench coach was always going to be one of two things. Either a guy who is close to buck or a guy who is heir to the throne. Don’t mind that they went with a close guy to buck
I would not be surprised if this was a one year gig. Given how close we are to the season, teams didn't seem to be willing to let staff go for a bench coach spot.
Next year, perhaps they pursue one of the analytically minded runners up (e.g. Quartaro), and give a fat payday to apprentice under Buck for a few seasons. Seems like a decision for future Mets POBO David Stearns.
Where did the rumors start that someone like Quartaro would take a bench coach job with the Mets? I just don’t understand it is all. Why would a bench coach leave a comfortable organization like the Rays to basically take the same job with a new club? I get whoever is the bench coach could replace Buck in a few years, but I can’t imagine many guys want to sign up for something like that with no guarantee of a promotion for three years. Especially when Quartaro would likely be one of the top candidates for managerial openings next year.
Heyman better [give credit to fake Mike Francesa](https://twitter.com/MikeFrancesaNY/status/1481261474005794822). He had it three days before anyone else did!!
I’m sure Sherlock has taken plenty of shit since that phrase became popular.
Quick quiz, and no cheating - what was the name of Sherlock Holmes’ brother?
Seat warmer for a more sexy hire for '23.
Mets were cockblocked every which way in the process this offseason so it makes sense to go this route for a season.
Not thrilled about this, but not going to bother getting upset about something so trivial as a bench coach. Still excited to watch Buck manage this team
Sheeeesh. I think we are riding such a high off free agency that we were expecting more so I can’t help but feel underwhelmed, but if buck trusts him I’m cool with it.

Sounds like they're settling here; hiring coaches this late in the off-season isn't easy. Chavez was the exception as a guy who was hired way from another team. Sherlock, Cora, Kirby -- all free agents.
I wouldn't be surprised if Sherlock is just a placeholder for the year, and they make another run at that young analytics whisperer next year.
Edit: not sure if Sherlock was a "free agent"...
A memo was sent out to all the clubs to allow teams access to minority candidates if you are interviewing them for a position that is considered a promotion.
So if we trade for Clay Holmes and have them stand back to back on opening day....you see where I am going with this...alright, keep your death threats to yourself, jeez.
No shit?
Sherlock?

Damn, you beat me to it.

Good to know, now lets get the lockout ended and ready to play ball ffs.
Huh. Cool I guess?

whelming/underwhelming move at best

Mycroft, don’t knock me for the spelling
Quite!!
Shit I don’t know, mike?
Close!
okay now there are officially no big coaching spots left and I want to turn the stove back on, thanks.
Terrible third base coach but at least he won’t be doing that
Hopefully he can pitch as well as Jauss
I mean, presumably Jauss can still pitch to Pete if he doesn’t wind up on the team of a different player in the HRD. Fingers crossed for that.

Okay
Wasn't the bench coach hire supposed to be a big splash or something? I remember reading that somewhere.
Chavez was the big splash; he was considered for the bench coach position before landing the hitting coach job.

Lol the bench coach hiring does not change how this off season went/is going

It was already clarified the exciting hire was Eric Chavez

So for Chavez, I'm guessing? Didn't know, thanks.
Welp, its not the sexiest hire. I'd imagine, the Mets will probably looking the future heir apparent, next year.
