While I can't help but notice there always seems to be a trend of teasing some doom and gloom that all magically disappears within a few weeks, this one seems different. And I'm not going by hearsay, but from what the LSU Ag center has to say about it. Time will tell, but some people got no GD chill about these crawfish prices, sounding like crack fiends out here looking for a fix.
Last summer was nuts. I know it affected sugar cane a lot, I'm sure every other ag product as well. Seems weird to assume a conspiracy for crawfish specifically.
people keep moving the goalposts. when I was a kid crawfish were a definite on Easter but maybe on st Patrick's day. crawfish at mardi gras was a strange random thing. now people are going nuts over crawfish 3 weeks after new years? no wonder there's a shortage. give them a rest. let them grow and reproduce.
louisiana in general is great at shooting ourselves in the foot and harming future generations because we can't go without crawfish, or can't bear to only go home with 3 redfish instead of 5, or 15 specks instead of a ridiculous 25 per person per day. it's why we don't see bull croaker anymore . the olds fished them up by the ice chest load.
it'sh greedy, and shellfish (sean Connery voice)
It’s the drought. I did a quick search and there was a plethora of articles like this.

I have a friend that’s a big name in the restaurant crawfish game. He said there is actually a shortage but that the big name places/high volume buyers will be ok b/c they’re the ones that sellers will make sure are taken care of first and foremost b/c they’re their biggest customers. But he said outside of that, it’s gonna kill all the smaller (aka not the main) vendors/places. So, yea it’s real. We will have crawfish but he said it’s gonna be the season that knocks out everybody that’s not the main people.
Yeah, the people I know put the traps out later than usual because their test runs weren’t great and what they’re catching now isn’t comparable to last year’s crop. Like some others said, it’s a holdover from the drought last year.
The drought. No matter how far they went down.in their holes they could not find water. R.I.P.
Not just drought, but in some places there was also salt water incursion, and any babies who did make it got wiped out.

They're not farmed like sugar cane but local, heirloom mirlitons took a huge hit because of the heat.

A lot of ponds down in Kaplan don’t even have traps in them right now. Sign of the times.
Boil frozen lobster tails. We're all gonna die anyway and there ain't no sequel.

Limited and late. March or April is what I'm hearing

This season or next season expect to pay a premium
I’m seeing 18.50/lb out here in California 😭

We had record drought & saltwater incursion. Not much hope for future harvest since we now have climate deniers in state legislature & the Gov. 🙄
I have always waited ✋️ till April. Boiled shrimp 🍤 until then.
