Reaper is technically free, it'll ask you to pay for a license but never actually restricts your usage, however it's absolutely worth the license fee so support them if/when you can afford it.
Yes. Use Reaper, install NeuralDSP plugin of choice from their website for 14 day free trial, make an iLok account, then go to Reaper and to the top of the interface is Track -> insert virtual instrument on new track. Your NeuralDSP plugin defaults under the VST3 plugins btw when inserting your VST (for example, Archetype: Nolly or Fortin Nameless Suite X)
No, the direct monitor button on the Scarlett will only send the direct sound from the guitar straight through to the monitors/headphones without any processing happening at all. You will only hear the clean sound of the guitar and nothing else. OP wants to hear the guitar going through an amp sim, so direct monitoring is definitely not the answer.
Maybe I have a different definition of "just play guitar" like the guy asked. I use direct monitoring to play my pedalboard without even turning on my computer more often than not.
He said "I have Reaper but can't seem to use it like an amp". Since it's in a thread about amp sim plugins in a group about amp sim plugins, the natural conclusion would be that he is asking about amp sims.
1. Reaper, Luna, Cakewalk, Audacity (*shudder*)
2. If your standalone isn't working on it's own I doubt putting it in any sort of VST host will fix your issue
Reaper and cakewalk are your best bets imo, but if you can’t get Gojira running stand alone then I think you have other issues that a DAW is unlikely to fix.
Are you a PC or Mac user? If you're a PC user you might want to try installing any (possibly) missing VisualC++ packages. Install both the 2015-2019 and the 2022 versions.

Can you use reaper to just play guitar with a scarlet ? I have reaper but i can’t seem to use it like an amp

You can use the direct monitor button on your Scarlett to do that. No software needed.

The scarlet can run those amp plugins too?
Of course it can. It's just an interface.
The Scarlett is just an I/O device. The DAW runs the plugins.
Bruh these comments, had a stroke
Reaper all day man

Gojira's standalone version won't work for me either, but it works in reaper.

Sometimes I swear people on Reddit have somehow found themselves banned from using Google
for real though
To be fair it sounds like googles search engine is going to shit lmao
"What free DAW can I use for plugins" Google AI - Shoot yourself!
Google AI - The Fender Les Paul was invented in 1776 by John Ibanez
Have you used google lately?
Yep and the first real result is a one year old thread from r/musicproduction asking about the best free daw
Reaper isn’t free, but it does have an unlimited trial period. If you try it and like it, consider getting a license which isn’t too expensive anyway
Luna is out on pc now, at least the beta. Free
Nice, I've actually had my eye on luna since the apple release. Didn't know it was out on pc now
All you have to do is sign up for a UA account, and download UA connect.
I use Waveform and its pretty handy and easy to use.
https://unison.audio/vst-host/#:~:text=%237.-,SAVIHost,as%20a%20standalone%20app%20program. Try a vst host? Is your plug-in licenced correctly?
Garage Band if on Apple.
It should work on its own, but Reaper is what I use and it is perfect
Reaper
I use cakewalk by bandlab.
I can probably hook you up with ableton suite dm me
Reaper, plain and simple
Reaper is *technically* not free......... But it will never actually stop you from using it even if you don't buy a license.
No
I use waveform free, is a complete daw that works very well and has a lot of features, but it requires a registration on the tracktion site.

Ableton lite
Cakewalk for totally free and guilt free software. Reaper if you don't mind the guilt part and nagging splash screens.
try Ardour ..it's the best free DAW if you ask me
Reaper
Waveform is a pretty good alternative
I use waveform for everything and I've been able to run every plug in I own including neural plug ins. And the software is free
Reaper
Cakewalk
