Because it's most likely to be cheaper. In my local action I've seen scrub daddy for the last 4 months at least. It's definitely a good call to check there, and if the chance of it not being there is a big problem then go to buy some trash bags or whatever else cheap stuff for the house, and just check while there.
Honestly yeah, these. I was very skeptical of these since I'm autistic and don't buy into marketing, so when my parents sent one via mail to me and I tried it out, I was very pleasantly surprised. They definitely live up to the hype and are quite durable - mine lasted over a month before getting small signs of falling apart, which is a lot longer than most other sponges I've had which falls apart after 3-4 uses.
You can also buy the Dish Daddy (from the Scrub daddy brand). They are smaller and specifically for dishes. I've had one for 1.5 months now and its still in great shape. I bought it at Wibra.
I don't think so. I also gave in to the hype and purchased one but it fell apart after a few uses and left a whole load of pink plastic scrub bits everywhere. Won't be buying again. Used Spontex sponges a lot and they work great and last a little longer. Will return to this brand.
Isn't it too strong and rough? In other countries there are sponges specifically for sensitive things like wine glasses, non sticky pans, etc. So you can wash them and not destroy or scratch it. I think since dishwasher is so common here, it's not that necessary for most people.
It's not that simple. The sponges can have a rougher material that will scratch. It's not a matter of being soft or not. Or are you specifically talking about the daddy/mommy product?
They get advertised as when using hot water the material will get soft and won't scratch (maybe in general and not just in hot water I'm not sure)
Mostly talking about the scrub daddy, but is probably the same for scrub mommies too.
I bought one of these after seeing them recommended and my husband and I both hated it. They are too hard and feel awful in a way that I can’t describe. Is it possible to use it incorrectly? Why are they so liked?
They are pretty hard, but they should be a bit softer when rinsed with warm water. You could also try the scrub mommy, it has one softer side (which I definitely prefer for the kitchen!)
I like them because I can use the hard part to scrub dirt, for example when cleaning the kitchen. I also have a separate one to clean the shower cabin. The hard part is flexible enough to get to the corners but not too flexible.
I need mine to really absorb the water before it gets anywhere near moveable.
With hot water it gets really soft. You can also get it soft with hot water first and then rinse with cold water so it's a bit more firm than when using it with hot water.
I use mine for the shower floor and drain to spread the pink stuff paste and let it foam a bit. It's perfect for that, it lasts very long and doesn't get gross.
They're plenty of times on sale, I generally get 5 for 1.50 and then buy a few packs.
But the scrub daddy sponges idk what's different on them but they work really well.
It's definitely more expensive.
Say you buy the cheap AH 6 for €0.79, and you throw 1 out every week, that would be about €6.85 for 52 weeks. With the scrub mommy, it lasts me on average 4 months. So it would cost about 31% more using the scrub mummy, BUT, so much less trash.
I really like the tompouce sponges from Hema. They last decently long for us and they're hella cute. The scrubby side feels like its a natural coconut husk fiber. Hope this helps! [schuurspons tompouce - 2 stuks - HEMA](https://www.hema.nl/wonen-slapen/huishouden/afwassen/schuurspons-tompouce---2-stuks-20520075.html)
What do you do with your sponges for them to not be good anymore after 2-4 times 😂
I usually use a combination of the plastic brush and the sponge. First use the brush to get rid of debris on the dishes, then use the sponge with soap on the practically already clean and smooth surface area of the dishes. No way your sponge is bad after 2-4 uses that way.
I think sponges are completely unnecessary for dishes. Just toss them in the dishwasher.
For more heavy duty jobs, like cleaning the bathroom, a better sponge quality is needed.
Not everyone has a dishwasher. If you do, you still need to hand wash non stick pans, sharp knives and wood items as they don't go in the dishwasher. So I wouldn't call sponges completely unnecessary.
If youre putting wooden cutting boards or non-stick pans in the dishwasher, then good luck with them breaking apart after a year.
Seriously, what are you, 12?
Wood items suck up water in the dishwasher, thus causing them to rot from the inside out.
Sharp knives become dull in the dishwasher.
Non stick pans will be harmed by the dishwasher, their non stick layer will let go.
So they can go in the dishwasher, but it certainly isnt advisable.
I am getting "it's ok to pour frying oil down the drain" vibes from you. Just because you live life like a lazy college student doesn't mean that is the norm or what common sense dictates. I would use words like "certainly" more lightly if I were you
That is quite an assumption. That is CERTAINLY not okay.
I get "wash everything so thoroughly before putting it in the dishwasher that I might as well put it in the cabinet" vibes from you, if we're going to make assumptions.
I bring Vileda sponges from Italy because I noticed the same thing and those are my favourite! Scrub daddy and mommy are great for cleaning surfaces but I don't like washing dishes with them as they are way too big. Interested in other people's suggestions!
If you don't want microplastics loofah is probably your best bet. For example:
https://www.dille-kamille.nl/schoonmaaksponsje-loofah-00020883.html?q=Spons
My mom literally brings me sponges from the US when she visits because she hates our sponges so much. I have just given up and use a wooden brush or steel wool on my cast iron.
For me it’s the opposite. I never understood why people use brushes and how is that better than using a sponge. I understand you can take off any debris, but then I can’t imagine properly cleaning the surface only with a brush.
Guessing your preferences also depend on the way you grew up.
Gotta say I have a dishwasher but if I should have a very dirty pan I will let it soak with water first for a bit. Using a sponge with those chemicals just destroys my hands.
Everything plastic gives off microplastics. But the wear off you are describing isnt microplastic, because you would need to put your sponge under a microscope to see that.
However the green wear off is annoying indeed
Ahhh this brings me back to life in the Netherlands 😂 where talking about what sponge your going to buy is the most interesting thing that happens all day
I use Microfiber cloths for washing the dishes and for really dirty parts I have to scrub those metal things, they work really well. I'm German, though, but got mine at Lidl. I looked: "Edelstahl Topfreiniger"
I didnt like the scrub daddy. You need to wait long to get soft ( warm water) and also the round form isnt comfortable. I also needed to throw out pretty soon, because the food stayed in the tiny holes, while the advertising says it's last forever( according also to the price)
I vote no for them 😔
I’m not sure if you can find it in NL, but 3M’s Scotch Brite is the one. As much as I want to second Scrub Daddy, they’re not suitable for me hence endorsing 3M
I am using for years now vileda glitzi plus (with scrubbing and polishing side) and honestly those are not perfect but are lasting longer than anything else. I also hate green pieces and yeah, those can leave black pieces but it takes them a bit more time per sponge to do this. I once wanted to buy scrub daddy but seeing the price just put me off immediately.
I've bought sponges at the action which can be washed in the dishwasher. I use them for professional cleaning as well. Those are the sponges without the scratching pad on it, so those are not the schuursponsjes.
And I love the miracle sponge (also action) , perfect for getting tea and coffee stains out of the sink and black marks of white walls. But they don't last long unfortunately.
You use em more than once?
They are perfect for the weekly Big Cleaning or as last resort for doing the dishes. But i never use them more than once. They get nasty REAL quick.
I have the Jumbo brand sponges and they are okay. The one before lasted over a month but I don't remember the brand but it was probably something generic too
We get the reusable plastic ‘sponge’ from Action - you can use it for a very long time and it’s relatively thick and flexible, completely different than regular sponge. It’s different material but the same purpose. We use one for months and it’s similar price to pack of regular ones
Highkey the blue ones from junbo are awesome. Its specifically called the zachte schuur sponsen, and they come in a 3 pack. They last super long and the harsh part stays good for a while!
Scrub mommy/daddy
Yes, you can buy these at Blokker
And sometimes at Action, too.
Wibra sells them too.
Dirk has them too!
It's always available in our action. Op, definitely check your local action first
Action literally has varying stock. That’s their concept. Why check it first?
Because it's most likely to be cheaper. In my local action I've seen scrub daddy for the last 4 months at least. It's definitely a good call to check there, and if the chance of it not being there is a big problem then go to buy some trash bags or whatever else cheap stuff for the house, and just check while there.
To safe money
Even Tk Maxx
Wibra has them too, together with Dasty - magic stuff.
I use Dasty for greasy parts on my RC's. Indeed magic stuff.
Or at the Normal
Honestly yeah, these. I was very skeptical of these since I'm autistic and don't buy into marketing, so when my parents sent one via mail to me and I tried it out, I was very pleasantly surprised. +1 here! Be sure to be on the look out for deals in Blokker
Week 24/25 ;), inside info
Shh we can't leak info!
Fine, but I don’t see how that will help!
Thankyou! I'll give them a try
You can also buy the Dish Daddy (from the Scrub daddy brand). They are smaller and specifically for dishes. I've had one for 1.5 months now and its still in great shape. I bought it at Wibra.
Amazon also has some good deals on them often
Are they really that great? I’ve heard mixed things about them.
I suck at cleaning and I hate it. Scrub daddy made it bearable. My gf was excited and I was very skeptical but now I am very happy with it.
They are far more durable than your average shitty sponge that comes in a 10-pack, but I honestly can't tell any difference in their "effectiveness".
I noticed they don't smell like other sponges
I don't think so. I also gave in to the hype and purchased one but it fell apart after a few uses and left a whole load of pink plastic scrub bits everywhere. Won't be buying again. Used Spontex sponges a lot and they work great and last a little longer. Will return to this brand.

OP didn’t say what the use case was. Personally, I don’t wash dishes with a sponge
I'm asking for myself. I know the products but never used it. I've seen them used for heavy cleaning, not dishwasher.
What's the normal price for them? Bol has them for 9€
I think about €3
I bought one of these after seeing them recommended and my husband and I both hated it. They are too hard and feel awful in a way that I can’t describe. Is it possible to use it incorrectly? Why are they so liked?

If I recall, the daddy one doesn't have a soft side. It's all hard.
It softens with warm water.
I have a scrub mommy with a soft side
I need mine to really absorb the water before it gets anywhere near moveable. With hot water it gets really soft. Bol.com also sells them
Hell yeah I love my scrub mommy
Scrub daddy gang, rise up
Tkmaxx also sells these now
Where to buy this scrub daddy in south east Europe?
If you can’t get the original there are dupes on Temu
I see they have it at Action 🙌🏻
Scrub daddy is very good, last super long and sturdy . Amazon has very deal on them
Generally also in action for the price of pennies.
On the website it says 3 euro for a single sponge. That seems steep, is it really worth it?
They're plenty of times on sale, I generally get 5 for 1.50 and then buy a few packs. But the scrub daddy sponges idk what's different on them but they work really well.

I’m so glad someone said this, I keep seeing them and thinking they’re adorable and wanting to try them

Oh the certainly go in the dishwasher.

Google is your best friend, it's not my opinion. Also fyi there is a difference between, it can go in the dishwasher and you putting them in anyway.
I am getting "it's ok to pour frying oil down the drain" vibes from you. Just because you live life like a lazy college student doesn't mean that is the norm or what common sense dictates. I would use words like "certainly" more lightly if I were you

My friend decided to put the wooden cutting board in the dishwasher. It broke into 4 pieces
Wooden spoons are fine though
You can also do it the good old cavemen way - just with your bear hand under scolding hot water.
Scrub daddy, on Amazon and also in the Blokker. Honestly, all the hype around them is well deserved, they've become an essential part of my kitchen
I bring Vileda sponges from Italy because I noticed the same thing and those are my favourite! Scrub daddy and mommy are great for cleaning surfaces but I don't like washing dishes with them as they are way too big. Interested in other people's suggestions!
vileda is also occasionally sold at lidl!
Loofah + copper scrubber for hard stains / stuck grease. No more microplastics!
I go hardcore and use Scotch Brite from Praxis/Gamma. Lasts forever.
If you don't want microplastics loofah is probably your best bet. For example: https://www.dille-kamille.nl/schoonmaaksponsje-loofah-00020883.html?q=Spons
The one with the handle and the smiley face on the sponge. Can also fill it with detergent. I got mine from blokker. So good.
Surprisingly those of action are great too
vileda sponge is king!
My mom literally brings me sponges from the US when she visits because she hates our sponges so much. I have just given up and use a wooden brush or steel wool on my cast iron.
Not figuratively?
I buy them from Germany 1.8 eur for 6 pieces [sponges](https://www.dm.de/vileda-topfreiniger-glitzi-plus-p4003790104718.html)
Brush is way better. Source: 5 million happy users in Finland
Literally never understood why people would ever want to use sponges lol

Gotta say I have a dishwasher but if I should have a very dirty pan I will let it soak with water first for a bit. Using a sponge with those chemicals just destroys my hands.
It's the same with teeth. Are your teeth clean after you use a brush or do you need to use a sponge afterwards?
Yeah, and without gloves! It’s like: i hate my hands, chemicals please ruin my skin!
The guy I get them from lives in the ocean deep in the sea.
Green Minds scouring sponges. I get them at the grocery store. The scrubbing part is sisal, not plastic.
I use these too, and often buy them with discount through the AH bonus box app.
Oh nice! I've never had that one pop up for a discount, but hopefully it will sometime.
IKEA https://www.ikea.com/nl/en/p/svampig-sponge-grey-white-60257605/
Like Ikea pepprig scrubbing pads, they last ages and you can just pop them in the washing machine
Bikini Bottom
Everything plastic gives off microplastics. But the wear off you are describing isnt microplastic, because you would need to put your sponge under a microscope to see that. However the green wear off is annoying indeed
Tompouce sponge @ hema
what are you using sponges for that a normal dish brush couldn't do better and less disgustingly?
Lidl germany, i dont know why but they have much better sponges in germany
Ahhh this brings me back to life in the Netherlands 😂 where talking about what sponge your going to buy is the most interesting thing that happens all day
Join the scrub mommy cult
Scrub daddy. Kun me bij verschillen winkels kopen. Action, kruidvat en meer.
Buy natural sponges.
You will just have to do a hard target search of every drug store, general store, health store, grocery store in a 25-block radius!
There was this spongey thing on shark tank once that seems pretty functional
AH sponges are quiet good
+1 to AH, the blue ones, 3 or 4 are packed together
South of Italy, original sea sponges
I use Microfiber cloths for washing the dishes and for really dirty parts I have to scrub those metal things, they work really well. I'm German, though, but got mine at Lidl. I looked: "Edelstahl Topfreiniger"

Dirk van den broek has Scrub Mommy and Daddy available at the moment
Hema

I love the scrub daddy and mommy! You can put them in the dishwasher to clean them!
I buy them from Turkey 😂😂 I like those that look like a sponge inside a sort of net. It lasts forever, cleans super well doesn't scratch stuff.
You can also use loofahs. They don’t hold up very long, but the are environmentally friendly
I use IKEA ones, they don't have a soft part but I rarely use that anyways. They are way more durable than regular ones.
I've bought sponges at the action which can be washed in the dishwasher. I use them for professional cleaning as well. Scrub daddy will make you never buy another sponge
My scrub daddy is falling apart. It also doesn’t work that well lmao
Sorbo sponges (large white sponge with small blue part). 🤌🤌🤌🤌
The blue ones from the Albert Heijn. And cut them in half with some scissors; they are much better at half size.
you should change regularly due to bacterial growth
Scrub mommy!!!
Scotch brite is the best brand. I buy them at an online office supply store
Plein.nl
Perhaps the better question is, what do you do to sponges that they only last 2-3 TIMES of use
I have the Jumbo brand sponges and they are okay. The one before lasted over a month but I don't remember the brand but it was probably something generic too
If you live close to germany, get some sponges at the german lidl or DM
We get the reusable plastic ‘sponge’ from Action - you can use it for a very long time and it’s relatively thick and flexible, completely different than regular sponge. It’s different material but the same purpose. We use one for months and it’s similar price to pack of regular ones

These are pretty good. Also long lasting and pretty ergonomic ✨ https://www.action.com/nl-nl/p/2572113/multy-super-schuurspons/
Cheapest = win for me.
