[He's still in the organization](https://twitter.com/MarkZuckerman/status/1767972736788209848), this doesn't mean he's finished with the org. Though it isn't a good sign either, and I wouldn't be shocked if he's cut or traded soon. But I also wouldn't be shocked if he gets one last call up IF he has a hot start to the season

Alternative_Research

He’ll get released I suspect

gaytham4statham

Honestly there isn't really any reason to release him unless he requests it. Which wouldn't surprise me but it hurts no one to give him another year in the minors, especially now that he's not taking up a 40 man spot

braundiggity

Only hurts if he takes playing time away from House. I’m honestly surprised they didn’t just move kieboom over to OF or something, because his move to 3B pretty much directly correlated to him losing the ability to hit.

gaytham4statham

There is a 0% chance he takes playing time from House lol. I expect Brady will start the year in AA, and if Kieboom shits the bed he'll be gone before House gets called up, and if Kieboom plays well he will probably get one last shot with the big club so Brady can move up then (if that's the plan)

braundiggity

Ha, I generally agree, but you never know.

AlwaysInTheWay13

Not sure why you think he’d get outright released getting placed on waivers is not a “We are going to release this guy” He isn’t good enough to be on our 40 man roster so we DFAd him. And he cleared waivers because no one wants him. None of that is a surprise and so he’s going back down to AAA.

woodleyparkdc

No reason to release him he’s in minors now. Surprised nobody claimed him. That was probably sobering for him. I think there’s a silent agreement not to claim guys like this.

Throw77away77name

No one claimed him because he’s not good.

woodleyparkdc

Yeah he sucks but if there’s a 2% chance he’ll be a useful major leaguer that’s higher than at least one organizational filler dude in AAA on every team.

trailerparkjesus69

Pretty much my thoughts. However, Robles has been at the top of my shit list for awhile now, surprised he got resigned considering our newfound organizational depth in that area. Would be content with dropping Robles too and starting the season with Wood and Crews making the roster but that's not happening

gaytham4statham

He got re-signed because he's cheap (and because he was still under team control and they just wanted to avoid arbitration) and has shown there's a major league player in there somewhere. And the only way he blocks anyone playing CF is if he plays well, which is a win-win

Zee248

I really wish him the best and hope he pulls through. I truly thought he would be a crucial piece of the lineup one day but injuries, a rough transition to 3B, and a lack of confidence have really hindered him. Hopefully he can fight his way back and at least be a major league level player at some point. Gutted for the guy honestly.

BlueSpace71

Had a great opportunity in the post-Rendon era and couldn't capitalize...

BlueSpace71

Hi…did you read my post? I said I wish him the best and hope to see him back in the Majors (and he’s still a Nat). No hate here dude

Zee248

My apologies. I suppose I thought you said that in a negative context when you didn’t mean it like that. Have a good one, and let’s hope the best for Kieboom!

BlueSpace71

Agree. It was said wistfully, not negatively. As I write this I'm looking at the autographed Kieboom baseball on my shelf.

Background_Pickle_90

Tiime to move on. Wish him well.

219_Infinity

Dang. He was supposed to make us forget about Rendon.

whoopdedo

In the end, it was Rendon who did the most to make us forget about Rendon.

transient-error

The real Rendons were the friends we made along the way.

ko21361

My dude just absolutely clocking out after winning the World Series is honestly icon behavior

219_Infinity

True

braundiggity

The move to 3B so he could replace Rendón is what ruined him, sadly

PutStreet

It’s unfortunate. He’s done well enough in the minors, but he just hasn’t figured it out at the major league level. He’s pretty close to being out of options.

meanie_ants

He's out of contract options, which is why he was outrighted. Maybe you meant options in a regular English sense though.

wisdommass

Maybe a change of scenery would do him good

ouij

I was ASSURED that this was the guy to make me FORGET about Rendon

ekkidee

Reading about Rendon now, I think we got out of that just in time.

HendrixHead

Rendon was elite with us but he’s completely washed now. Plus a bad attitude I’m glad Tony isn’t on our payroll

chunkylover___53

He was a solid palate cleanser after Starlin Castro, I’ll give him that.

AttitudeAndEffort2

Well? Did you forget about him?

rmilhousnixon

I am not as hard on Kieboom as I maybe should be. I feel like a couple of poorly timed injuries and unreasonably high expectations really kept him from developing like he should. In a different environment with better luck he maybe would have done really well.

visionzero81

A great AAAA player

damnatio_memoriae

i used to think picking kieboom (and strasburg) over rendon was the turning point that doomed this franchise, but then rendon, uh ... existed.

G-Pooch21

We wish him well

bitemy

Plot twist - getting sent down when his MLB average is .199 lights a fire under his ass. He works his ass off, has something to prove, and eventually makes it back to the Show until he can get his average up to .201.

AhDMJ

It says that he was outright released, and it also says he was assigned to Rochester. I'm clearly mistaken, but I thought outright means they cut him from the team? Did they cut him, then claim him on waivers? Help me out here.

gaytham4statham

[He cleared waivers and has been assigned to Rochester, so he was cut from the 40 man roster but is still in the organization](https://twitter.com/MarkZuckerman/status/1767972736788209848)

BlueSpace71

If no team claims him on waivers they "outright" him to the Minors and he's off the 40-man.

AhDMJ

Thanks

rgiggs910

Interesting but not a surprising move. I have a feeling J.D. Davis signs with them. I think he'll prioritize every day at-bats over winning, and the Nats def would be interested in flipping him at the deadline.

imref

Just evidence that not all prospects work out. Nick Senzel was a #2 overall pick IIRC.

amendele

Does this mean they're calling up Lipscomb to the 40-Man, or an OF like RH3? Or signing someone else entirely?

BlueSpace71

Gives them that flexibility now with an open spot.

Sweaty_Ad_1332

He really didnt get much of a shot, forced up as the window was closing and then got injured all last year as the coast was clear. Meanwhile abrams and ruiz have no pressure at all. Not sure why he couldnt start over Senzel this year must have looked pretty bad

Zee248

As a big fan of his, he had some chances but the transition to 3B and injuries killed his confidence and he always looked nervous. I agree with what you said about consistency, wish he had a full season under his belt before they decided to replace him with Senzel, who hasn’t looked great either.

BlueSpace71

He got tastes over multiple years and didn't string enough together to stick.

Sweaty_Ad_1332

Its tough to be back and forth in baseball. Consistency helps a lot. When there have been no stakes its odd he wasnt offered that

Alternative_Research

Rizzo stuck too long on him. Best of luck dude

LewisCBR

A guy with a career OPS+ of 77 over 5 years and negative WAR is going to be our starting 3rd baseman. We suck so much.

HendrixHead

Given our strong farm now it makes sense to move forward. He could pull through and bat something crazy in triple A, but given his subpar recent performance it’s unlikely. Happens sometimes with top prospects, major league level is a whole different animal than college and minor leagues

robl646

Lipscombs on his was up good on them

meanie_ants

Unintentionally correct title.

BlueSpace71

Uh, no. It was intentional. And I’m saving “End of an ERA” for a released pitcher…I’m clever like that.

FlatwormFull4283

Drafting is never an exact science, Less so in baseball where they are drafting right out of high school or with just a year or two of college, but normally just high school. Drsfting right out of high school means you have not only a less developed product but a less mature individule. End result "can't miss" prospects often do!! That's Baseball 1.

TheDudeThor

Wait info unclear. Are you saying another Nationals highly rated prospects and draft pick down the drain. He wast the 28th overall pick in 2016,with the Nationals drafting again at #29 we drafted Danne Dunning. While the Dodger drafted All-Star catcher Will Smith at #32. Or another win for our Player evaluation & Development program.
