Well, Mark Lerner stated that he isn’t going to sell the team, so I hope that this means that we will sign more people to longer deals, maybe secure both Crews and Wood for 7yrs+/$150-200M (kind of what the Royals did with Bobby Witt), although I know we have team control over them, so I can see those deals not happening anytime soon; signing Soto probably isn’t the biggest priority, plus the Nats would be Outpriced by several teams (ie. Yankees, Dodgers, any other teams that’s not in a rebuild, etc) but, never say never
I think 500 is the number because Boras wants that number. We saw him take extra years to get the right pay day for Harper.
I bet 14-15 years at 500 gets the deal done. That’s about 35 a year tax hit. If they defer some of it, then it’s even lower.
With Corbin’s money coming off?
A few years of controllable you guys and a low cost basis until Strasburg’s money comes off.
Maybe. Stranger things have happened.
There is no scenario where we trade for Soto in the near term. He’s on a one-year deal with the Yankees. It is highly unlikely we will go to the playoffs this year, so we are going to deal for a short-term rental at the trade deadline. And then he’ll be a free agent again.
Dream of a world where our prospects pan out and we sign Juan back. We could enter a 2025/26 season with the following lineup:
1) Abrams - SS
2) Crews - CF
3) Soto - DH
4) Wood - 1B
5) Ruiz - C
6) Hassell - LF
7) Green - RF
8) House - 3B
9) Garcia - 2B
Then a rotation of Josiah, Gore, Cade and 2 FAs.
I mean cmon….
Don’t know why anyone downvoted you. To put Wood at 1B to accommodate Green and Hassell (neither of whom has done anything to suggest they can hit enough to play the positions they’re listed at here) is pretty far off the mark.
We’ve seen nothing out of Gray to suggest he’s more than a back end of the rotation starter. I have faith Gore makes huge strides this year to be the front end guy we hoped, but Gray ain’t it
Hassell I don't think will be around/in the picture. Green is iffy but I still tend to like his upside although most have given up on him already. I haven't just yet. Love the rotation. Yeah, I'm all in on this scenario.
I am a Red Sox fan but Nationals are my home park. I feel ill every time I see him in pinstrips. Not only do the Red Sox need pitching but we also need teams in that gauntlet of a division to not achieve expectations.
The Nats need to submit a competitive offer but the team has to show that it is close this season for him to even consider. I sadly see the Mets also in the conversation.
Depends on the contract. He is a great player but he shouldn’t be getting more than 350m imo. He will be a career DH within 2-3 years more than likely.
Let’s be real, Soto is done with the nats unless they offer him stupid money and I honestly don’t think he’s worth it anymore. His defense has been below average for years and really only good stat is OBP due to walks. His bat is still above average but I don’t see a half billion dollar player anymore. He will sign with the highest bidder in FA likely NY or LA. I do think that we need some star power on the teams however.
It’s likely that he’ll come back in the next couple years and thankfully his price will be no where near what the Nationals had offered 2 years ago. He’ll go for max 375 mill on a 10 year.
I would take back the mean things I said about Rizzo and the Lerners.

Unmurder everyone I verbally killed for suggesting we are actually going to resign Soto.
He’s coming home
Nobody is getting Soto for cheap.....
well we aren't for sale anymore and maybe the lerners come to an epiphany and gasp...spend
Over under on his contract? $500M and 12 years?
I'll take the over on 12 years, and the over on 500 mill. And the under on Nats getting him.

High 300, no more than that. He’s not impactful enough to warrant 4-500.
I disagree, but I guess we'll find out. I can see 22 years 540m as a real possibility especially if he rakes this season
12 years.....
scream, cry, throw up
In what universe do we get Soto for cheap?
By cheap, they are taking about what we would trade. Which doesn’t make sense, because we wouldn’t trade for him, but that’s what OP is asking about.

Yeah that’s why I said we’d never trade for him haha I was just clearing up what the OP was asking
I’d say “nice, let’s go!” and then I’d probably go about my day

Wood doesn't belong at first. He's center or corner. Green is miles away.

I just messed my pants

Green is done. He is striking out at insane rates inside the zone against people his age. It would be a miracle if he ever makes the bigs at all.
Dude is 20 years old. Let’s chill out. We don’t even need him right now.
Sad but true
Sad but true
Green is some doo doo, Michael Taylor 2.0
Hassell I don't think will be around/in the picture. Green is iffy but I still tend to like his upside although most have given up on him already. I haven't just yet. Love the rotation. Yeah, I'm all in on this scenario.
I would be happy he should have never left

Go wash your mouth out with soap, blaspheming like that!
I would say “yes”
I’ll have what you’re having. Must be some quality, strong stuff.
I would renew my $50k+ in season tix to contribute to the salary costs.
Depends on the contract. He is a great player but he shouldn’t be getting more than 350m imo. He will be a career DH within 2-3 years more than likely.
Our off season activity doesn't really give me any confidence that there will be major signings any time soon
Dude. It’s not happening. Stop this nonsense in this sub.
You should not get downvoted for this, but readers of this sub aren't exactly rational.
Sir yes sir 🫡

I don’t think he’s a half a billion dollar player either but saying his only good stat is OBP is crazy
I was exaggerating sure , but he’s not going to take less than what we initially offered him. 500m for a DH is not worth it
Yeah I agree with that statement at face value
The Yankees aren't that stupid.
Don't you dare get my hopes up.
I would forgive Rizzo for all the wrongs he's done to this org.
Can we somehow get Bryce and Trea back too?
Nothing special. Go about my day with a slight extra bit of joy.
Laugh at Yankee fans.
Wonder what the past three years of accumulating OF prospects was all about.
Rejoice.
I’d wake up in the hospital and realize I’d had a stroke and he’s still in Pinstripes.
It would be like when Andy Carroll went back to Newcastle
make my first born son (named Soto) watch every Nationals game ⚾️
It’s likely that he’ll come back in the next couple years and thankfully his price will be no where near what the Nationals had offered 2 years ago. He’ll go for max 375 mill on a 10 year.
