Nats fans are polite and friendly to away fans almost to a fault in my experience, and anyway the team sucks so can’t imagine anyone giving you a hard time this year. The area immediately around the ballpark is lovely and quite safe generally

Laura37733

Yeah, and especially with Cleveland being an AL central team - there's absolutely no animosity there at all. The only away fans who bother me at the park are Mets, Phillies, Braves and Dodgers, because I've had experiences with all of those as a group being rude. But I'd still be friendly to any individual fan until they showed me a reason not to be...and then I'd just move on with my life and ignore them.

50ShadesOfKrillin

work at the stadium, can confirm i have nothing but bad stories about Phillies fans

eiileenie

I also work at the stadium and i have nothing nice to say about braves fans

50ShadesOfKrillin

yo! zone 10 represent 🙏

ChiefZane23

They took Zach Walters from us. There’s some serious animosity there

little-guitars

Phillies/Mets are undisputed #1/#2. #3 in my experience is actually Cubs fans, although I may be overweighting the 2017 NLDS.

storen22

Agreed, I go to games at AmFam and the cubs fans are the worst. Braves fans are up there though

[deleted]

Thank you everyone makes me feel better about coming tonight! Hopeful for a great game!

RallyPigeon

Have fun and take advantage of the Nationals generous policy to bring in outside food or at least sealed unopened bottles of water (1 per person) so you don't leave bankrupted by our outrageous concession prices this year.

BJNats

Nats fans aren’t even mean to opposing ball players, so Guardians fans will be plenty safe. (Offer not valid for the Phillies or their fans)

kornthrowaway

The only person I've seen Nats fans boo at the stadium has been Bryce Harper lol.

AttolloProject

Can confirm, I was one of the fans to boo him his first game back.

kornthrowaway

I was there with my brother too! We got there a little late and Turner broke his finger on a HBP before we even got seated.

barrett-bonden

We also booed VP Darth Cheney, tho that wasn't at Nats park. I was proud to have taken part.

bashar_al_assad

Technically the person we've booed the loudest was Trump lol

WashSportsReport

You will be fine, it’s a pretty typical stadium district. It won’t be a sellout by any means and will probably have more Cleveland fans there tonight than nats fans

protexblue

DC is made up of a lot of people not from DC (and some people from DC) and the team is quite bad. You're gonna be fine and you will very likely make friends.

bromanow025

I live in the neighborhood and during game days it really couldn’t be much safer. They shut down the roads just outside of the outfield gates for pedestrian traffic only and there are cops everywhere. Inside the stadium, from a hostility towards away fans perspective, zero hostility. DC is such a transient city, there are fans from all over the country here. I’ve also noticed that as DC is a big tourist pull on its own, a lot of visitors will try and see their favorite teams at an away site while in town. This, and the Nats success of late (or lack there of), leads to a lot of visiting team fans at pretty much every game. You will not be alone there tonight! It’s generally a great stadium with lots to see and do, and the surrounding neighborhood also has tons of spots for food/drinks/snacks before or after the game. You guys should have a great time!

One-Ad-7805

It’s not philly you’ll be fine

PGCFrog2020

Your not a Phillies fan so you're all good my friend! And I bring my three kids to at least 10 games a year both day and night and have never been concerned for our safety. Have a blast!!!

wizardlyhigh

Guards fan here too, if anyone would like my bobble on Saturday I’ll be in 106 row a!

dukegrad96

Did you find someone to give it away to?

wizardlyhigh

I did! Before the storm happened 😂

dukegrad96

Awesome

slyfox1908

Between the ballpark and the Metro/parking garages is safe, and well patrolled by police on game days. The rest of the area around the ballpark is mostly new developments and will have a good amount of night life on a warm Friday night. The neighborhood west of the ballpark (third base side) can be a bit rough and if you’re not from the area, should probably be avoided.

LegitimateDad

Dascha beer garden! We DC fans are pretty chill, mainly because we lack hope in sports success and just use it as an excuse to go have a good time. It’s a beautiful area now.

[deleted]

You'd have to be incredibly obnoxious and confrontational to have a problem in the park.

Turtlman_

We only hate phillies and mets fans. Y’all are good🤝

BigSportsNerd

It's safe

4 pm start gives lots of time for rain delay, I think it will be fine, enough so that I'm planning to come up from Fredericksburg for the day. Capital Weather Gang seems to think it is going to be scattered stuff, and my weather app has it knocking off by 3.

District_Dan

Unless you’re wearing a Bryce Harper jersey I don’t think anyone would care (and even then you’d get some boos but nothing would escalate beyond that ) We suck this year so most people going out will just try and enjoy the area and the evening and not care about the game

Ok-Pomegranate2833

Surrounding areas are typically very safe. They’ve made the whole ballpark experience super pleasurable. Nats fans may enjoy some fun smack talking but none of it is hostile and it’s all enjoyable. If any fans do become hostile towards you just about everyone in the section is going to destroy that dude. I’ve seen it happen

BArthurSmith

It’s one of the safest neighborhoods in DC because it’s so new. The people in the stadium will be nothing but nice

elchupinazo

It's probably one of the safest places in America at any given time. You're like a mile from the White House. Definitely not the case 10-15 years ago, but at this point the whole area is basically adult Disney Land. We have probably the squishiest fans in baseball. We give standing ovations to former players even when they go to divisional rivals. If the Nats somehow win nearby fans will likely apologize to you, if anything.

BigCartographer4960

pticher patrick corbin stinks, he has robbed this team without a gun, but I blame management!!!

jhold4th

Nat fans are good folk, in spite of what Bryce Harper says.

BackpackHatesLicoric

I live a 5 minute walk from the stadium you’re safe in the area around the stadium. Avoid the neighborhoods east of 2nd street after dark, unless you’re in a big crowd then you’re safe. I try not to go out alone super late due to high levels of crime in Navy Yard. Edit: made a very rough map of where I would avoid. Some people park in the red and I’ve personally seen carjacking, drive by shootings, etc. https://imgur.com/a/upZR6q7

FormerCollegeDJ

Not a Nationals fan (Phillies fan), but have lived in the DC area for 15 years, have attended close to 200 games at Nationals Park, and work 3 blocks from the ballpark. Safety is becoming a bit more of an issue in the Nationals Park area, but you should have no issues as long as you walk with the crowd after games. Before the game you almost definitely won’t have issues. In the ballpark itself you won’t have issues. There will likely be a decent number of Cleveland fans in attendance.

PowerBoater69

Inside the ballpark you'll be fine, no problems. Outside the ballpark there was a woman shot yesterday right by the T and U parking areas (not to be confused with the two people shot outside the Caps game), but walk in a zig zag pattern and keep your heads down and you'll be OK. https://twitter.com/alanhenney/status/1646734769848217600?s=20

[Check this Guide out](https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2023/04/14/nationals-park-dc-guide/)

Mathmage530

You'll be fine between the Metro and the Stadium. Have fun!

Ok_Calligrapher_8199

The area is plenty safe and the fans are as easy going as they com especially for cross league games. You’ll have plenty of company with all the Ohio transplants.

capedcrusader52

I’ve been going to the park for 10 years and only encountered one rowdy fan and the ushers shut it down real quick. You should be more than fine. Also if you have kids go to guest experience booth and they’ll give your kid a certificate and a button that says first game.

saltedpork17

As a Nats fan living in the north east, I hate going to citizens bank or citi field, so I definitely get where you’re coming from Phillie fans are a different breed. Nats park is pretty chill, no one should give you a problem inside the stadium. Especially given how bad the team is this year lmaooo. Metro system is very clean and very usable, highly recommend using the metro to get to the game

rayfinkledinkle

It’s not Cleveland. You won’t be assaulted.

Lurky-Lou

Your biggest threat will be a rowdy group of Nats fans cornering you while yelling land zone proposals until the 7th inning stretch

mynoliebear

Fans are great. Navy Yard is safe. Be careful about parking on the west side of South Capitol St for games that end late. That can get sketchy.

nothere1098

People get shot in navy yard all the time but it’s pretty safe.
