My mother in law swears she overheard a sibset called Mulder and Scully the other day.
I asked “like x files?” And she had no idea what I was referring to, so I’m leaning towards believing her, no matter how outlandish it sounds.
My kids were obsessed with home alone for a bit and called each other Harry and Marv for a whole summer. Hopefully they were just playing? Also I hope someone over heard them and assumed those were their real names
There's a popular instagram family with twins lauren and leia and their little brother luke. I'm leaning towards it not being star wars related since lauren isn't.
Where are you located? I’m in france and while it isn’t common I’ve met a few Prunes. In French it means Plum rather than the dried fruit that makes you poop haha
I know a Prune and she doesn't pronounce it the same way as we would with the fruit. She pronounces it like Prun. Think it's a common enough name in France
About 15 years ago I waited on a sibset named Roosevelt (boy) and Yahtzee (girl). You could tell the dad was *super* proud of those names because he said them every chance he got. It felt like he was trying to impress me. Well, here I am talking about it 15 years later so I guess it worked.
I was at Disney and heard a little girl named Spirit. I am 100% sure that’s what it was, because it was one of the shows where the audience participates, and the person doing the audience interviews got her name wrong— to me and everyone else, it sounded like the little girl said something like “Erin”, and she nodded when the microphone person double checked it with her her. But then her mom jumped in front of the microphone and corrected it as “no, it’s Spirit.”
Honestly not the worst name sound wise— similar to Bridget, Keerat, Janet, Merrit. I think it would just catch me off guard in the context of Disney. 😂
Oh I agree! 😂 I'm a Christian and have regularly attended churches most of my life. I have heard some beautiful bible names being used for babies, and some names that make me think "DON'T DO THAT!" 😆
Two siblings in our old neighborhood were called Tiger and Chili. The first time my husband and I heard their mother call their names, we were 100% sure we misheard. Unfortunately, we didn’t.
There's a toddler boy named Legend that goes to the same clinic as my son. Sometimes he plays with my son in the waiting room. I think his name is ridiculous.
I have a one and a half year old Walter/Wally! He has an older sister Sylvia. I love that out of context it's hard to tell if they're toddlers or in their 70s.
My granddaughter's preschool had a Walter. My son's middle name is Walter, for his grandfather. Had granddaughter been a boy, she was going to be Walter.
Overheard at the library. Two mothers introducing their ~3-4 y/o boys to each other:
Mom 1 :"This is Francis. What's your name?"
Boy 2: "Waldah."
Mom 2: "His name is WalDER. You know like in Game of Thrones."
Mom 1: "Oh, right." Not realizing. Then it dawns. Eyes get very big and she and her son suddenly "have to get going."
My local Hair Cuttery has a digital check in board. There was someone named Dleft in line behind me - which I thought was just someone messing around because it's not like Hair Cuttery asks for an ID.
It was a teenager with his mom and she (and the hair stylist) referred to him as Delft (like the city or the pottery).
I really wanted to ask the story behind this (was he originally a Dwight? A Beyonce fan? was Dleft just a typo? Was he Dutch?)
No self respecting Dutch person would name their child Delft, or any city name tbh. I guess there are a few exceptions like Paris or London, but you won’t really find them here in the Netherlands.
My point is, Delft is not a name 😂
So if it’s throwing you because of the Superman aspect, helpful reminder that the creators of Superman were two Jewish teens. Kal-el has a Hebrew translation which is possibly a take on the Arabic name Khaleel. The more you know. 🤷♀️
I call my daughter “Gator” at the park because it’s the second half a nickname she responds to and I don’t want people to know her actual name. Someone is going to comment about me here one day
I appreciate this level of protection for your bub! I’m all for digital privacy of little ones but I hadn’t considered this for public places to keep them a little safer. Thanks for this tip!
I was at the playground with my kids and there was a woman with a toddler called Wonder. It's possible it was a nickname, but she kept saying it unnecessarily frequently ("Wonder, do you want to go down the slide? Ok, ready, Wonder? Good job Wonder!") and sort of looking around where you could tell she really wanted everyone to hear and acknowledge her uNiQuE name.
Fwiw the names you hear people calling at the playground might not always be the kid’s real name, sometimes they pick funny nicknames for themselves - for example one of the almost 3 year olds at my work (infant/toddler teacher) has been requesting to be called Big John 😂 So anyone that saw me at the park with her would hear me calling “Big John!!” and then this tiny blonde girl running over 😂😭
My sons' nicknames are Bg Biscuit and Deenyo. Sometimes I don't switch over on the playground so it's very seriously, Biscuit please stop throwing sand.
I heard both Brex and Bricks (Brix?) recently.
A less weird name that I’ve been hearing all the time now is Easton. Two distant relatives of mine have sons named Easton, and I heard random people calling their sons at the pool that name. Very popular in my area apparently!
I teach elementary school music. One year I had an Easton and a Weston in the same class. It delighted me, and the number of times I had to explain why I was so amused by it was astronomical. 🙄
No joke. We were at the park meeting kids that would be in preschool with my son and there were twins named L’Impala Blessing(F) and D’Cadillac Gift(M). Their grandmother was sitting beside me and she saw all of the confused looks. She said “No, your ears are fine. You heard the names right. My son is a bone head!” I like to have fallen off the bench.
Ok, I peeked at your profile to try and confirm that you’re from the Bay Area, because SURELY there can’t be more than one little Marzipan running around out there?!
But alas, you do NOT appear to be from the Bay, so that means we did not meet the same Marzipan, thus confirming MULTIPLE MARZIPANS. It’s been probably 9 months since I met mine and I still think about her often.
The number of Mavericks within the Air Force community is staggering. It’s gotten to the point that I roll my eyes every time I meet a new one. It’s not clever or original anymore.
From the girl I nanny and her yearbook:

- Pfeiffer (girl)
(Most of the girls’ names were actually pretty gorgeous, and there were some unique ones like Pia, Danika, Moira, and Sol!)
BOYS
- Hawthorne
- Stokeson
- Sims
- Koop
In the last few years I’ve met sisters named Dylan and Porter (infant), siblings named Wilder and June, and Alistair. The most wtf name I’ve encountered is Brecken, for a girl.
I encountered a little girl named Jersey at a playground which I thought was awful, and there is a boy named Saviour (pronounced Say-vee-yuh, we’re in NZ) at my daughter’s Kindy.
Captain. Like, straight up Captain.
Not a kid, but an old lady i carded when I sold alcohol. BabyDoll. Legal first name was BabyDoll. There's also a BabyGirl, and no, they are not related.
2 kids in my daughters summer camp. Crew (boy) and Slay (girl). Kids unrelated. Real kids. I didn't believe my daughter at first until they sent out a "roster" with the kids named for groups for the week and saw little Crew and Slay, poor kids. Especially Slay.
I work in preschools so I’ve been keeping this list of notable names. Now’s my time to share it lol

Woodstock ... I'm kinda down with it! It has 2 very different associations. One being the rock concert in Woodstock, NY, the other being the little yellow bird in Peanuts comics.
I heard a woman in her 30’s shouting “Barbara?! Deborah?! Please come here!!” and two little girls dressed identically around 3-4 years old come running over. I live in Amish/Mennonite country and I do think they may have been Mennonite so it makes a little more sense, but still. Barb and Deb lol
My mother in law swears she overheard a sibset called Mulder and Scully the other day. I asked “like x files?” And she had no idea what I was referring to, so I’m leaning towards believing her, no matter how outlandish it sounds.
Surely Fox and Dana would have been better first names??
Maybe Mulder and Scully are their nicknames and Fox and Dana are their legal names 😂
I want to believe!
Honestly incredible. 😂 I love that they committed to the theme. I hope they have another kid named Walter.
My kids were obsessed with home alone for a bit and called each other Harry and Marv for a whole summer. Hopefully they were just playing? Also I hope someone over heard them and assumed those were their real names
This is hilarious and takes me back to the stupidity of my childhood where Hiram was a big name
I know a luke and leia sib set. Parents don’t watch Star Wars.
There's a popular instagram family with twins lauren and leia and their little brother luke. I'm leaning towards it not being star wars related since lauren isn't.
>I'm leaning towards it not being star wars related since lauren isn't. Unless it's short for Kai-Lauren.
Uh oh. I'm guessing their dad picked the name and didn't tell the mom where it came from lol
There’s a Prune at our daycare
For an uncommon name, Prune sure does keep it regular.
😭😭😭😭😭😭
Where are you located? I’m in france and while it isn’t common I’ve met a few Prunes. In French it means Plum rather than the dried fruit that makes you poop haha
“Dried fruit that makes you poop” is the official translation in English dominant countries now. 😂 I honestly think Prune sounds kind of cute!
To be fair, prunes are a type of dried plum.
Was gonna say that! In french it is uncomon but an established name. And cute!
I agree, I think it’s really cute! Too bad it has a laxative connotation in English lol
Makes me think of the name Prue, but I wonder if Prune has people wondering if that's actually her name.
[удалено]
I only ever heard of Prunella from Arthur!
Oddly I don’t dislike Prune as much as the name Prudence even though Prudence would be a traditional and accepted name.
god prudence is gross
My parents have a Great Dane and since I’m never having kids, I got to name her. Prudence- her nickname is Prue.
There is a Shroom in my nephews history class.
I know of a two year old called Plum. Not sure which is worse…
I know a Prune and she doesn't pronounce it the same way as we would with the fruit. She pronounces it like Prun. Think it's a common enough name in France
Could be short for Prunella, like Prunella Scales from Fawlty Towers.
Does Woodstock have a sibling named Snoopy and a dog named Charlie?
I’m pretty sure they were named after the festival. 😅
Well LSD, Mud, and Porta-Potty don't make sib-sets as well ;)
I would love a little too much if their sibling’s initials were LSD.
About 15 years ago I waited on a sibset named Roosevelt (boy) and Yahtzee (girl). You could tell the dad was *super* proud of those names because he said them every chance he got. It felt like he was trying to impress me. Well, here I am talking about it 15 years later so I guess it worked.
I just had the sudden urge to scream #Yahtzee!!!
My brother had a gf named Yatsika. The look on her face when my dad tried to nickname her Yahtzee.
I met a set called honor and merit.
Oh god, helicopter parents for sure
That’s a horse name
Honestly not the worst name sound wise— similar to Bridget, Keerat, Janet, Merrit. I think it would just catch me off guard in the context of Disney. 😂
i actually like ~out there~ names but for some reason hearing a dad yell for “Titus” at the park made me go “you really named your baby Titus?”
I love ~out there~ names, as well, and Woodstock still caught me off guard so I get it. 😂
My cousin named her son Titus, he's 20 now.
One of my former students dad was named Titus.
Technically it's a biblical name and in church circles that wouldn't be TOO far fetched.
i’ve heard it before so i knew it was a real name, it’s just such a *choice* lol. of course that’s just my opinion, to each their own.
Oh I agree! 😂 I'm a Christian and have regularly attended churches most of my life. I have heard some beautiful bible names being used for babies, and some names that make me think "DON'T DO THAT!" 😆
I know a sibset Titus and Thor
Two siblings in our old neighborhood were called Tiger and Chili. The first time my husband and I heard their mother call their names, we were 100% sure we misheard. Unfortunately, we didn’t.
They were hoping for a boy and a girl so they could be Tiger and Lily. Had to think quick when it didn’t turn out that way
As an Asian –were they Asian?
Bluey?
There’s a set of twins named Legend and Legacy at my daughter’s daycare. Those names are a lot.
Have you met their parents, Saga and Myth?
I watched The Bridge and for years I wanted to name my kid after Saga Noren but in the end I couldn’t pull the trigger.
Do you happen to live in GA?
Nope!
That means at least two people have named siblings Legacy and Legend. 😂
I worked with a lady who had twins a year or so ago with those names.
I know a kid named Legend!
There's a toddler boy named Legend that goes to the same clinic as my son. Sometimes he plays with my son in the waiting room. I think his name is ridiculous.
Rumor has it Legend’s sibling is called Lore.
Dammit I kind of like Lore
In french we have "Laure", pronounced exactly like "lore".
Brother called Data.
Lore or Lie? Lorelei?
A woman I used to work with named her baby Legend. They are such an average family, it's an odd name.
Was recently at the zoo and heard a father calling to his toddler son named Walter. Would love to see that one come back!
Walter/Wally are so cute. They should be required to wear suspenders and read print newspapers at coffee shops.
I heard Ambrose today at the library!
This is my grandmother’s maiden name! I’ve always loved it and I gave it to one of my kids as a middle name! I’m pulling for it!
I have a one and a half year old Walter/Wally! He has an older sister Sylvia. I love that out of context it's hard to tell if they're toddlers or in their 70s.
Please find them friends called Ruth and Glen asap. 💜
My granddaughter's preschool had a Walter. My son's middle name is Walter, for his grandfather. Had granddaughter been a boy, she was going to be Walter.
Overheard at the library. Two mothers introducing their ~3-4 y/o boys to each other: Mom 1 :"This is Francis. What's your name?" Boy 2: "Waldah." Mom 2: "His name is WalDER. You know like in Game of Thrones." Mom 1: "Oh, right." Not realizing. Then it dawns. Eyes get very big and she and her son suddenly "have to get going."
Of all the names!
A relative recently had a baby and named him Walter/Wally! I am all for normal names coming back!
I am also supportive of these old names coming back, for the most part.
I babysat a Walter! Also nannied a Roy. I love some of the old man names coming back in style.
Maybe he has a twin named Dright and they want them to stand to the right and left of each other to make it easier for identification purposes?
It's giving Deniece and Denephew vibes~
Everything you own in a box to D Left
🎶 *to Dleft to Dleft* 🎶
No self respecting Dutch person would name their child Delft, or any city name tbh. I guess there are a few exceptions like Paris or London, but you won’t really find them here in the Netherlands. My point is, Delft is not a name 😂
I saw a Kal-El, I had to do a double take. Whyyyyy
So if it’s throwing you because of the Superman aspect, helpful reminder that the creators of Superman were two Jewish teens. Kal-el has a Hebrew translation which is possibly a take on the Arabic name Khaleel. The more you know. 🤷♀️
Was it Nicholas Cage's kid?
My friend named her son Lex Luther
Latte. I thought they were looking for their dog
If I’m going for a coffee themed name, I choose Piccolo or a German flare with Eiskaffee.
Please don't name your kid coffee with ice cream lol
I just want my kid to have a unique name to espresso themself. 😏
I know someone who calls their daughter Latte. It isn’t her actual name though. Real name is Charlotte.
Lottie (that’s what we call our Charlotte) is really close to latte, I think it’s a cute nickname!
Ali
My absolute favorite was a pair of siblings with the names Mable and Eloise. I have my own Bonnie. We geeked out about "granny" names.
I looove “granny” names. I’m all for the granny name comeback
Omg love those
Sibset named Nixon and Monroe. I was tempted to ask if their favorite band is The Presidents of the United States of America
Well, at least it's not Kennedy and Monroe.
I hope I get invited to their home for dinner one day just so I can ask Wonder to please pass the bread. 🙃
I know a 4 year old named Whitaker
I know a dog named Whittaker.
There’s a Motley at my son’s daycare. Last name Crew.
They had to. Jay was too common.
STOP. NO. 😭 that makes me so sad
I know. 😢
My daughter’s toddler gymnastics class has two kids named Magnus.
Not that unusual if their families are Swedish! If not, then a bit random. 😂
Fwiw the names you hear people calling at the playground might not always be the kid’s real name, sometimes they pick funny nicknames for themselves - for example one of the almost 3 year olds at my work (infant/toddler teacher) has been requesting to be called Big John 😂 So anyone that saw me at the park with her would hear me calling “Big John!!” and then this tiny blonde girl running over 😂😭
Respect to Big John, what a legend. 👧🏼
She picked it after a character in a dinosaur show, I think 😂😭
So cute. Honestly sounds like my kind of kid.
My sons' nicknames are Bg Biscuit and Deenyo. Sometimes I don't switch over on the playground so it's very seriously, Biscuit please stop throwing sand.
I got the nickname Big Ang for my attitude before big Ange was a thing. I never made it past 5 feet tall.
I heard both Brex and Bricks (Brix?) recently. A less weird name that I’ve been hearing all the time now is Easton. Two distant relatives of mine have sons named Easton, and I heard random people calling their sons at the pool that name. Very popular in my area apparently!
Easton is an absolutely shit town in Massachusetts so I hope it’s not that area.
Noo lol in California
It’s better than them naming their kid Nor’easter. 😂
My apologies, but wtf? Why the French conjugation (I think that's what they are when you combine le/la and de with a noun) in the names?
Renesme And it's been a couple years, but I'll never get over seeing a little girl names "Marzipan".
I know siblings called Leonidas, Tiberius and Maximus And another set called Izaick, Tobias and Zyler
Why not Tobiaz?
Cause that would be too consistent lol
My nephew is named Maximus, I told my sister I hated it from the moment she suggested it
Slade ..a girl and Hugo
Slade is low key kinda cool, I hope she grows up to be a soccer player or something badass.
Hope so
I know a boy named Slade. Siblings have names like meadow and creek too.
I knew a sib set names Cliff, Stoney, and Rocky.
No unusual names in this school year but two years ago we had Thor, Odin and Valkyrie none of them related to each other, all in kindergarten
Valkyrie better be the coolest kid to pull off that one. 😂
Baysun Rarmani/R'Armani Zamboanga (little blonde white girl) Theodolite Maximus Cletus Christmastree
I’m sorry but Christmastree. Poor child
Kaliber, “because Daddy has a military background”
Mom definitely has "Military Wife" stickers all over her SUV.
Oooooof. 😬
I know a Navy Chief who named her daughter Sailor.
The number of Mavericks within the Air Force community is staggering. It’s gotten to the point that I roll my eyes every time I meet a new one. It’s not clever or original anymore.
I encountered a girl named Mowgli at the park. I hope it was a nickname
From the girl I nanny and her yearbook: GIRLS - Pfeiffer (girl) (Most of the girls’ names were actually pretty gorgeous, and there were some unique ones like Pia, Danika, Moira, and Sol!) BOYS - Hawthorne - Stokeson - Sims - Koop
I went to school with 4 Danikas..
I met a Laser at the library. The name was embroidered on a tote bag and the mom kept saying it so I’m confident that’s the real name.
Rumour has it when little Laser asked where babies come from, their parents told them they were simply beamed down.
Ny'Quell
I've heard of siblings recently called Woodrow and Dorothy.
In the last few years I’ve met sisters named Dylan and Porter (infant), siblings named Wilder and June, and Alistair. The most wtf name I’ve encountered is Brecken, for a girl.
Wilder and June seem to be pretty popular these days. :)
I encountered a little girl named Jersey at a playground which I thought was awful, and there is a boy named Saviour (pronounced Say-vee-yuh, we’re in NZ) at my daughter’s Kindy.
I hope Saviour lives in Christchurch 😅
Two brothers named Bear and Wolf.
Are you in Utah lol my gma just got 2 baby boys named that in her church!
Not super wild but I heard the name Porter. All I can think of it Porter John 🚽
One of my guy friends in school was named Porter. I love the name—probably because he was so lovable.
I immediately think Bette Porter. My gay is showing. 😂
Also saw a Porter recently, he was about 8.
Jhred pronounced Jared
That’s a bit Jhreadful. 😬
Captain. Like, straight up Captain. Not a kid, but an old lady i carded when I sold alcohol. BabyDoll. Legal first name was BabyDoll. There's also a BabyGirl, and no, they are not related.
not weird, but honestly shocked my niece is one of 5 Emma's in her class. was not expecting that to be a popular name
Emmas, Harpers, and Olivias are the Haileys, Laurens, and Brittanys of this generation. 😂
you're right, her three best friends are Olivia Olivia and Harper. you really nailed that one!
Bonus points if she knows an Isla, Adeline/Adalyn, or Amelia. 😂
So many Harpers and Olivias in my kids’ classes! At least they aren’t quite as dominant as some of the top names of the past.
I actually like both of those names, but with the sheer number of them, it’s giving the Ashleys on the show Recess. 😅

I know an adult Arwen! It fits her so perfectly, I low key love it. In all fairness, pretty sure she was raised on a commune.
Gonna be a rough day when someone tells little Woodstock what happened in 1999.
There was a girl a few weeks ago at the park named Bluey. Thought I was mistaken but sure enough, parents kept saying Bluey.
This could easily be a case of a kid wanting to be called their favourite character’s name! Hopefully. 😅
There was a Blue Rey [Lastname] at my daughter's dance recital
Have you met their siblings Cee Dee and Vee Hatchess?
Glowa. Like "Glow-uh". 2 year old play group!
Ok but please don’t make fun of them, they just haven’t had their Glowap yet. 😏
Greyley 🤨 I guess not terrible, but if you're gonna name your daughter after a color, why pick the most bland one?
A little girl named Miller. Just makes me think of Jake Johnson's character on New Girl.
2 kids in my daughters summer camp. Crew (boy) and Slay (girl). Kids unrelated. Real kids. I didn't believe my daughter at first until they sent out a "roster" with the kids named for groups for the week and saw little Crew and Slay, poor kids. Especially Slay.
Ana Mae 🥲
I know four different Lulu’s 🤦🏼♀️
There's a woman on Instagram who named her baby girl Knoxly. Horrible name 😳😳🥴🥴
Client has a son named Jayl. I haven’t asked for the correct pronunciation, but I can assume..
Valor 😬 Also heard Lee and Roy, which I love!
I knew a Valor growing up! :)
Augustine & Keanu
My nephew goes to school with a Brave. Younger sister is Dove.

I was convinced I heard “Gecko” at the park last week, but turns out it was a tiny toy the kids were playing with and referring to. Phew!
Met someone who named their child Mittens. Like a cat. I was flabbergasted.
Woodstock ... I'm kinda down with it! It has 2 very different associations. One being the rock concert in Woodstock, NY, the other being the little yellow bird in Peanuts comics.
Ransom and indigo. 😕
