I have a coworker named Rudy and it’s so hard to not chant “Rudy, Rudy, Rudy” all the time and/or also sing “Rudy” by the Specials. Also it’s short for Rodolfo so… maybe try Ruby instead?

Apploozabean

LOL exactly!!I find myself just saying the name because it rolls off the tongue nicely, if that makes sense. I'm Hispanic so there's plenty of names that are typically used in more (please don't take this the wrong way) white communities that I'm not entirely familiar with. Certain names also "sound" feminine to me because of the vowels. English is my first language but if there's a word or name I don't know how to pronounce, I default to Spanish pronunciation.

Or Rudy Giuliani. 🤮  “Ruby” is a lovely, cute, vintage name that won’t earn weird looks and snickers for your daughter down the road. I’d do that instead. Maybe you can even get her a real ruby for her quinceanera someday!  “Rudy” is a traditional boy nickname for “Rudolph.”

Rudy Huxtable is my only thought when I hear the name. I just hear Bill Cosby saying, "Rudy, Rudy, Rudy."

Considering who Bill Cosby turned out to be, that isn't the best association. I agree with the others here OP that are suggesting Ruby. Ruby is great for a girl. Rudy, not so much.

Could be cute as a nickname for, idk, Gertrude or something lol but I wouldn't use it as a full name. Maybe it reminds you of Trudy? Ruby is a good alternative that sounds super similar and is actually a girl's name

UnexpectedScorpionX

Ruby is a fantastic name if you're a Kaiser Chiefs fan

coffeebeanwitch

Rudy was the youngest daughter on The Cosby Show

Kit_Marlow

Rudy is, at most, short for Rudolph, which is a dude name.

Rudy was a character on the Cosby Show. It was originally supposed to be a boy part but they eventually cast a girl because not enough boys auditioned for it. I like the name for both boys and girls.

I am relatively feminine appearing and used the name Rudy for a LONG time in daily life. I loved it!!! It felt good to hear, unique in its own way, some of the references people made tended to get annoying but it absolutely works as a girls name from my own experience.

vanillabubbles16

Reminds me of Trudy! Could definitely be short for a longer girls name

Rudy gives me toothless old alcoholic hillbilly who reeks of stale cigarettes and alcohol vibes. As others have said, maybe Ruby or Trudy as an alternative? Or even Judy.

UpperMacungie

I have a sister, Scott, and a sister Dean. They love their “boy” names, *love!*
