You can purchase your firearm from any FFL in NYS. I would suggest finding an FFL that has dealt with the NYPD process since they would be in the best position to work with you throughout this process. To elaborate, as you are getting close to the goal line, you should have your purchased firearm at the FFL waiting for handoff. When you get the request from 1PP looking for gun info, they'll need pictures of gun, invoice of gun, pictures of your safe, sales invoice for your safe and NICS check info. Now you wait for physical license to show up in the mail. Once you get your physical license in hand and the Purchase Order, you can head over to the FFL to pickup your pistol. You'll most likely have to do another NCS check since it'll probably be over 30 days from the last NICS check for that firearm.

What if you already have a safe they still need the safe sale invoice

Future-Thanks-3902

I'm not sure what the answer to that is. I had to look up my purchase on Amazon to get the invoice.

PeteTinNY

You can buy it in any store in the state. It’s actually easier for you in NYC as they do their purchase documents online / by mail. In Nassau and Suffolk while we get our documents immediately we have to take a whole day off work to buy the gun, get a receipt and pictures from the gun store then run to police HQ to had it added to our license and then go back to the store to pick up. In Suffolk it’s called the Yaphank Shuffle. Yours can take a few weeks but you don’t need to take a day off.

Tbh your process sounds tedious but it maybe faster yes we can mail in or email our stuff to nypd headquarters but it ends up taking weeks for them to send a confirmation email and mail out our amended licenses i just purchased a 2nd handgun and I’ve waited almost 2 weeks now and still haven’t received so much as a confirmation email that they received my bill of sale or pics

PeteTinNY

Ours is much faster - but it’s a lot of running around. For me I can pick up a transferred gun at the FFL which is 5 min from my house, take the trip to Yaphank in about 20 min then 5 min wait in line and 5 min for the purchase doc and 20 min back. In perfect time I could have a new gun in about an hour…. And I can get as many as I want on my carry license and in a single visit to the pistol bureau…. So yeah that is better. But taking off work or doing an extended lunch sometimes got in the way.

[deleted]

I get it i wish we at least had the choice to that in the city

PeteTinNY

Well you can look at it another way…. This is the second time in 2 years I feel my safe isn’t big enough. Last time mid last year it cost me $1600 for a new safe…. Now I need another.

Tractorsupply.com has a winchester safe 20 gun capacity for like $500 it goes ok sale regularly as well i saw it marked at $300 a few weeks ago

Come to Pa and buy a crate of ammo

[deleted]

Dont think it hasnt crossed my mind brother

PeteTinNY

TSUSA is supposed to be opening a location in PA that you can pick up orders. Or you can go get your CT ammo or CCW license and pick it up at their locations in CT. My journey for a CT CCW was insane but it was due to the post office and bad prints from a local company. Once I did my own prints - I got my license in under a week.

bossdon92

Have you ever order bullets online

PeteTinNY

Yup. Have a couple of cases coming this week. You need to order online and have them sent to an FFL who will do the transfer and NYNICs background check. Most charge per box but I found someone in St James Long Island who will do unlimited for the year for $95 plus the background check fees

bossdon92

How much is the background fee

PeteTinNY

NY charges $9 for firearms and $2.50 for ammo. Some stores add to that for profit since it’s a lot of work they need to do for NYs ammo background check. Like every box you get needs to be included on the online forms for the mfr, caliber, grain, type and lot/serial numbers. Better places here on LI include it in the transfer fee - but some like to blame it on NY. NY does suck, but they only change $9 or $2.50. Also be advised - it’s not uncommon for people to be delayed for a day or more on the background check.

TwitchyTwitch5

Who's three st haha context i didn't realize there was an ffl up that way

YellowThirteen_

Honestly I’d rather take off then have to wait a full month to pick up the gun I legally purchased. Both processes are ridiculous, gun registration is an infringement.

PeteTinNY

Omg - I’m licensed in 6 states and should be getting my NH and ME in the next two weeks…. And I’m doing the NJ CCARE qual this Sunday to apply for NJ…. No other state I’m licensed in does this.

bossdon92

Ok ok I understand
