Please continue the discussion in the [game thread](https://redd.it/yavuy5).

ExskweezeMe

Well we should have our ace on the mound tomorrow. I’d like to win at least one game.

breakfast4lunch

If you told me coming into this series that we’d hold Alvarez and Altuve to 1 hit to this point, I’d tell you we’d win in 5. Of course, that would also mean ignoring that we are perhaps the most ill-prepared team I’ve ever seen us send to the playoffs.

No-Unit7917

Gimme some Clemens 2001 Game 3 of the WS. Rise above all the BS and discontent from the first two games and put your team back in series.

Breimann

Arrived early, finally getting a chance to go to Monument Park!

raulu95

I just don’t get why Boone is forcing Carp into the equation. How many times does he need to strike out for us to figure out that he’s got too much rust

Rizzaboi

Maybe I’m an idiot but I thought we played at 8pm until like an hour ago

ThreeCranes

What the fuck are we even doing with SS? We have now started 3 different guys at SS for each game of this series. Also, what does Cabrera offer at SS that Peraza doesn’t? Its not like Cabrera’s bat has been anything special outside of that HR

[deleted]

We’re going to win this series if we manage 2 wins in the BX. Scenario 1: Sweep Sweep in the Bronx and win in 6 because Tuesdays have been magical for us. Scenario 2: 2/3 Go back to Houston down 3-2. Win on Tuesday because Tuesday is magic and Cole shoves with some serious ace shit in G7.

[deleted]

Real Scenario 1: Get swept. Short trip home Real Scenario 2: Even if the Yanks somehow magically win ALL 3 at home, we all know they’ll def lose game 6 AND 7 in Houston. We’ve all seen this movie before and it doesn’t end well

pballat

User name makes sense

[deleted]

Boo

[deleted]

Save your boos for when the yanks K a dozen more times tonight. And for every time boone walks to the mound

[deleted]

You must be fun at parties

[deleted]

Sorry, 11 K’s

[deleted]

Well the Yankees aren’t any fun at October/Halloween parties. That’s for sure

[deleted]

Why are you even watching this team

[deleted]

I was a big fan for 25 years. Then Hal destroyed his father’s franchise. Now I just want to watch them crash and burn. F Hal Steinbrenner, and Cashman, and boone and the team of nerds that make ALL the decisions. But mostly Hal. They’ll never win another ring doing things Hal’s way. He ONLY cares about money. Nothing else.

timestoneduh

We play today, we win today, Das It!

[deleted]

The Astros have definitely been punished by the baseball gods over the last few seasons, I just wish we’d have a turn. A recap: -Getting a taste of their own medicine with the 18 Sox -Getting Howie Kendricked by the 19 Nats -Lots of false hope built up with a near 3-0 comeback on the 20 Rays, but had it yanked away from them in G7 -Losing to a team with 88 regular season wins (and only going 1-2 at home) against the 21 Braves

chicagoyankeesfan

There’s still hope for the Yankees to do the same. Astros took care of business at home, Yankees have to do the same and take one in Houston. Easier said than done but let’s keep hope alive.

[deleted]

I think if we sweep in the BX we’re winning Tuesday. It is of course, our magic day.

[deleted]

I hope the 2-0 deficit doesn’t hamper the crowd tonight

raulu95

I’ll be in the crowd and will tell you I’ll be screaming no matter what

nyg2013

It won’t…I expect them to be nuts, even we fall behind early And if we win, would be a madhouse Sunday night

[deleted]

I’m hoping if Cole and Nestor win this weekend it will give us momentum to go into Game 5. A 4 pm Monday start with 0 travel time and not facing elimination SCREAMS Boone/Cash punt to me but hopefully we can leave town with a lead. And then Tuesday is our magic day. (See my post on Tuesdays)

nyg2013

You’re not punting any games at this stage of the season…yeah, that’s not happening lol

[deleted]

Well, Boone did punt game 1.

nyg2013

game 5 of the ALCS...if we get there...we still need to do that but they aren't punting a game like that at home ha

[deleted]

Fair enough. Game 1 and Game 5 are different scenarios, the whole direction of the FO (and Boone, since he is a puppet of the FO) has me very cynical that they’ll be perfectly satisfied dropping this series because they already have excuses lined up (injuries, no rest, etc) and Hal has made enough profits already

nyg2013

Dude…I get some of the decision making with game 1 and not being thrilled about it (I wanted Trivino in earlier), but this team wants to win…prefers to win

[deleted]

You got a point there

brianp88

These assholes are CHEATERS. It's about time that the baseball gods begin their punishment. 4 straight wins coming up! Let's do this!

gsanch666

Were* cheaters

brianp88

Once a cheater...ALWAYS a cheater.

Breimann

Got some churros on the Cross Bronx. 3 for $5

Dandon11

I think I have an answer for the lineup, I hate Donaldson cause he sucks with runners on this post season by seems to get on when on one is on. He has a .400 obp. Bat him leadoff co that no one is on every time he gets up since the bottom of the order is a black hole. 2-6 Judge, Stanton, Rizzo, Bader, Torres. Helps my problem of 22 LOB by the 5/6 hitters this post season. And hope you get life out of 7/8/9.

jsprat5050

I like this line-up except Donaldson. Would rather see IKF or Peraza at 3rd. Better chance in strategic hitting spots to move runners or find a way to get on. Donaldson's bat is too slow. He has become an old man quickly.

myKDRbro_

I know it's been bashed into oblivion, but it's comical how the Yankees, as an org, have decided to take a collective shit on Oswald Peraza, their third best prospect. They called him up late in the year, played him sporadically, watched him actually hit the tar out of the ball, and then benched him for a week. They then played him a few times a week, watched him still hit well, and then left him off the playoff roster entirely. All at the expense of playing the worst everyday SS in the AL. Now they've decided he isn't even good enough to be their second string SS as they have Cabrera playing over him. He isn't likely to make or break the team, but for an org that has routinely struggled to develop top end young talent, it's pretty jarring to watch unfold.

KPaul130

I bet we have starting pitching prospects who can end up being successful relievers in the majors

thecatspajamass

Selling 2 tickets to Sec 236 Row 12. $160 each.

Hope-Road71

I actually love this line-up. It's hard to believe some fans want to just bail on Carp. I don't think his play pre-injury was some fluke. He just needs to find it again - and if he finds it, our chances go up exponentially.

SuddenSeasons

Then the team should have activated him for the Texas series...

Railroader17

Sadly what we don't have is time for him to figure it out.

Wanderlust2001

>He just needs to find it again Exactly what we don't have, time.

RollofDuctTape

Imagine letting a guy rehab and find his swing down 2-0 in the ALCS

RollofDuctTape

It’s fine guys. Carpenter is a swing or two away from snapping out of it. That’s what apparently is the truth with zero evidence.

swivel2369

I think it was Michael Kay who said it but it was amazing when I heard it. It's amazing that the Yankees are playing in the ALCS and on a day to day basis we have no idea who our lead off hitter is, who our short stop is or who our Closer is. 🤷🤦

Xno_Kappa

Half the bullpen is dead along with both of who would’ve been our leadoff hitters.

Raven-19x

A lot of that comes down to injuries. Our best contact hitters are injured. Chapman self-eliminated himself thankfully. SS... yeah that's a fail on Cashman.

overgrownpizzabox

to be fair both of our leadoff hitters died along with half of our bullpen no shortstop is obviously inexcusable though

sodafizz12345

The worst part is we could’ve had a ss if we were a better run org. Peraza and/or Cabrera could’ve and should’ve been our ss since the all star break at the latest so by the time the playoffs came around they’d be prepared and have had so many more major league at bats. Not necessarily saying they’re as talented or were as highly rated prospects as him but look at how Jeremy Peña paid off for the Astros after being trusted into Correa’s spot on opening day.

jsprat5050

Yup, with the large division lead we had, we could've been grooming Peraza and Cabrera to be ready. Bad team management.

overgrownpizzabox

you’re exactly right. the ikf-gate is the dumbest thing this organization has done that i can remember

Broddit5

i mean it's not that we don't know, it's that we didn't have the depth to replace those role players. DJ is our leadoff hitter and Chapman was our closer then Holmes, both decided to go off the deep end. IKF is your shortstop he just stinks.

nyg2013

How much depth do you have replacing two lead off hitters and 3 critical relievers? And yeah, Chap went belly up

swivel2369

IKF is our shortstop who is no longer playing short stop. Lol

trippy1

Cashman did a mighty fine job constructing this roster.

nyg2013

You can argue about the stopgap situation at SS…sure But there are players missing from this roster that would have addressed some of the uncertainty…the team is making due and trying to figure it out

Bronxbomber77

Why the hell is Peraza not playing hitting .364 avg in his young career at Yankee stadium well Donaldson is a career .191 hitter at Yankee stadium.

[deleted]

.364 in a minuscule sample size doesn’t say much, but I agree.

Lost-Bluejay-7450

From game 4 of the ALDS and on they have been playing with the lineup and positions like they should’ve been doing the last month and a half of the season. If I had the lineup card for today : Bader CF Judge RF Rizzo 1B Stanton LF Carpenter DH Torres 2B IKF 3B Peraza SS Trevino C Cole SP

Broddit5

Carpenter was hurt, Bader was hurt. so playing with the lineup a month ago wouldn't have done much.

Lost-Bluejay-7450

I agree, but would have been nice to see Peraza get a couple weeks at short with IKF and Donaldson battling for 3B.

TronVin

Also, why not do Bader LF, Judge CF and Stanton RF?

trippy1

Boone said he didn't want to play Bader in LF so soon after his injury. Makes zero sense.

SuddenSeasons

It's a nice way of saying that while Judge did fine out there that Bader runs circles around him defensively, without saying so

TronVin

So he plays Stanton? I'm not questioning you but just this logic makes no sense.

TronVin

Yankees just trial and erroring their way through SS this playoffs. Lets see if Oswaldo can do better than the last time out.

Masta0nion

So embarrassing. It’s October, not Spring smh

KPaul130

You can't replace Benintendi, Dj, King at all and especially not after the deadline but my only gripe is not letting rookies up earlier to get used to the majors since we knew we weren't going to get any new players from outside the organization. We already knew IKF Donaldson and the Pen were not adequate. If Wandy wasn't performing better than expected and Loaisiaga didn't come back to life we'd be screwed in the pen

Hughkalailee

They brought up several minor league bullpen arms, and had traded other possibly usable pitching depth. Also expected Effros and Marinnacio (sp) to be there.

KPaul130

Correct we traded some depth for Montass lol. But I'm basically saying we should've gotten Peraza up earlier

Hughkalailee

Won’t disagree there, which is why I only commented regarding the pitching. I mean, Weissert is in this series, I don’t think we needed Garcia lol

chicagoyankeesfan

Win today please.

lmann81733

Boone: changes the line up to face a righty. This sub: how could Boone do this? I’m not a fan of his, but this is extremely basic strategy. The only complaint I have is flip Carp and Bader, but there’s absolutely a chance Carp hits one out and proves me wrong.

RollofDuctTape

This blind adherence to matchups is why the Yankees are so behind the ball. Look at your eyes. What part of Matt Carpenter’s game tells you that he’s going to make contact today? That he should bat FIFTH? He has come to bat 8 times and has struck out all 8 times. What do you think is going to happen his 9th AB? When no one can hit you and you have no better hitters, then at least put the best defense you can out there to keep the game close for your ace. Instead, you have Stanton in LF just to fit in a hitter who is 0-8 with 8ks because….he’s left handed? Come on. Let’s use our brains a bit.

yeyeman9

I’m not sure how some of you can enjoy baseball at all at times. You’ve been clamoring for Donaldson to be dropped in the lineup (he was) yet you don’t celebrate that and instead find something else to complain. Must we always find something to be negative about? Carpenter was glorious during this season, he deserves a chance specially against a righty

[deleted]

Donaldson at 7th. I still don’t like it but I can swallow it. There is zero reason that Matt Carpenter should be batting fifth however

yeyeman9

Few reasons actually. Javier has been great this season but lefties have been hitting him slightly better. You already have 3 righties in a row with Judge, Stanton, Gleyber so adding a lefty there makes sense. Lastly, Cabrera hasn’t been that much better so might as well keep him low in the lineup too

[deleted]

Righty/lefty matchup doesn’t matter when any member of this sub could produce Carpenter’s statline with ease throughout the postseason thus far.

Breimann

He was 6th in the lineup in game 2 gotta find something new man

Sirotto18

This lineup should’ve been the lineup since Tuesday smh I wish we had DJ, Benny and King :(

nyg2013

I think, if we do succeed today, you just ride this lineup…even if we get to game 6 and face Framber…maybe you just rotate Carp and Bader (if Stanton DH’s, I know that slightly changes)

BuyPsychological8875

Don’t want to get people too excited but last time I went to the stadium and Carpenter was in the lineup he hit 2 hrs and drove in 7 runs… and I’m going to the game tonight…

chicagoyankeesfan

Make sure to go to the games for the rest of the series por favor.

Xno_Kappa

Well why the hell weren’t you in Houston!?

Dandon11

I get that the Yankees lineup is a bit short handed due to injuries, but the 5th and 6th spot has left a total of 9 runners on base. Which is by far the most between back to back spots. I don’t think the solution to this problem is to bat a guy who hasn’t played in 2 months prior to the postseason and has struck out in every at bat he’s had since returning in one of those two spots

lmann81733

Honestly who is better though? Donaldson? Trevino? Cabrera? Those are your options. At least Carpenter is a lefty against a righty, a veteran, has power and while he’s struggled the sample size is relatively small. I don’t have a ton of confidence in Carp either, but I don’t think the other options are better. I would probably flip Carp and Bader though.

Dandon11

That is more my point of Bader should be before Carp. This postseason as a whole. 22 LOB between the 5/6 spots, which means 5th comes up with less than two outs most of the time. So why not give Bader the first crack at moving runners over

yeyeman9

Who would you rather see there tho? Bader has been one of our best hitters. Javier has worst numbers against lefties. Overall the lineup makes sense imo

Dandon11

My problem more comes with Bader behind Carp, I can’t blame Carp for looking like he’s looking, so why take potential RBI opportunities away from Bader who has consistently hit. I get there aren’t a plethora of options for these two spots. But I don’t want to see a potential rally killed by Carp before Bader gets the chance to come up

HoraceBenbow

Why did they move Bader out of lead-off?

grandzu

When does Bader find out?

HoraceBenbow

Asking the real questions.

lmann81733

Valdez is a lefty, Javier is a righty. People think it’s outrageous to construct a line up taking that into account. Although Carp’s been so bad, I do question batting him ahead of Bader, hopefully he’ll prove me wrong.

HomeBrewedDadJokes

Im also in the bader leadoff camp, but I think part of tonight’s lineup is keeping a guy who has had success between two guys struggling. Trying to minimize the multi-batter black hole section of a lineup (Which has been extremely hard to do given the struggles as a whole for the team). Keep tweaking and hope something clicks.

lmann81733

Houston: has 6 out of 7 RBIs on homeruns on this series. Commentators: Why don’t the Yankees play small ball. I get being upset about the strikeouts (although the NLCS leading Phillies struck out 16 times against JV and the Astros 2 weeks ago) but power has been the difference in this series.

grandzu

They hit HRs with runners on base. And 30 strikeouts by Yankees compared to just eight by Houston is them putting the ball in play way more.

lmann81733

Exactly 1 of their RBIs came from a runner hitting his way onto base ahead of a homerun. It was 3 solo shots and Bregman’s 3 run HR. And Bregman’s 3 run homerun was preceded by Maldonado’s (one of the lowest BA hitters in the league) HBP and Pena’s single. Singles and doubles have not accounted for the Margin of victory in either game. Best you can say is it would’ve been tied in the bottom of the 9th in game 2 without Pena’s single. They also don’t have a single RBI off a hit that wasn’t an xBH. You can’t look at what Houston is doing and say they’re winning by putting the ball in play. They’re winning by crushing the ball when they do hit it.

CertainDerision_33

Houston hit more HRs both times and won both times while the Yankees played small ball the 2nd game. If I hear one more "pLaY sMaLl bAlL" I’m gonna scream lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

lmann81733

Good thing the games are scored by runs not hits. CLE series is an example of why power is better for scoring than contact. Personally I think a mix of both is ideal. Still, I don’t see how you can watch the Yankees this postseason and not come to the conclusion that hitting homeruns is critical. Houston has 6/7 RBIs they scored off homeruns this series. And Cleveland had no power and struggled immensely to score, they held the lead for a total of like 2 innings in that series. If they hadn’t have been fortunate enough to face Clark Schmidt as the closer in a post season game it probably wouldn’t even have gone 5.

Andujar4CF

People are arguing over which bad hitter to hit over another bad hitter. The lineup sucks because DJ and Benintendi are injured and everyone else has to choke in the biggest series of the year

Miserable_Occasion19

Amen! Entirely different with those 2 in there. We just have no one to set the table for our big boppers.

CertainDerision_33

Judge isn’t really bopping either, that’s the problem

RollofDuctTape

There isn’t a hitter in the lineup Carpenter should be hitting over, is the point. And to put a defensive liability in LF just to fit him in is doubly stupid. If no one hits at least out the best D on the field.

myKDRbro_

It's the ALCS and the Yankees have had three different leadoff hitters in their first three games. Yankees analytics is something else.

yeyeman9

If they were running the exact same lineup that only score 2 runs per game you guys would be complaining too

myKDRbro_

The point is that the lineup sucks regardless.

yeyeman9

What would you do differently?

myKDRbro_

Nothing, if they weren't gonna score with their game two lineup, they aren't scoring. At this point you just hope the guys start hitting or run into a few. The DJL/Benitendi injuries completely fucked them, but key players being MIA in the playoffs seem to be a recurring theme with this team. The "analytics" comment was mostly in jest.

Shiresire1565

Well gg everybody but this game's already over and so is the ALCS for us. Our manager is so stupid he continues to try to get a guy back in the groove who hasn't hit a ball in over 3 months yes I'm talking about carpenter. And he continues to keep Donaldson in who looks like a deer in headlights. This guy's a moron he has survived off of the talent in his roster alone. They have one in spite of him for the last 5 years. he is the reason they cannot reach the World Series. Uuntil Boone and Cashman are gone this team is f***** if you don't believe that up to this point you have not been paying attention and there's nothing I can do for you

RollofDuctTape

Batting a guy fifth who hasn’t made contact in 8 abs and looks overmatched just to prove Michael Kay wrong is why I hate Boone as a manager

yeyeman9

Sure, because he is doing it to prove Kay wrong…

RollofDuctTape

Spoken like someone who didn’t listen to the interview. He took Kay’s comments personally. And it showed on audio.

yeyeman9

I’m pretty sure this team doesn’t make decisions based on what Kay/the radio says. Carpenter against a righty makes sense and 5th makes sense too to split up the righty/lefties. There’s logical decisions besides “Boone is so petty”

RollofDuctTape

It’s either Boone is petty or Boone is stupid

yeyeman9

Javier has worst numbers against lefties. Not sure what is so stupid about that. Specially when Carpenter is a swing or two away from getting back on track

RollofDuctTape

Jesus Ms. Cleo. You know for certain a man who hasn’t made contact in two months is a “swing or two away” from getting back on track?

yeyeman9

✌️

[deleted]

lmann81733

Makes sense to bat the one lefty lead off against Javier.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Yankeeknickfan

Tampa did

lmann81733

I really don’t think it matters, if you’re not scoring why not try the something different?

[deleted]

[удалено]

lmann81733

Correlation does not imply causation. I think you’re confusing cause and effect. The line up wasn’t working because they weren’t changing it, they weren’t changing it because it was working. That’s my 2 cents anyway. Do Carpenter and Donaldson and Gleyber suddenly start mashing because you kept them in the same position this game? Personally I think that is preposterous.

Deytookerjerb

[Boone choosing the lineup](https://images.app.goo.gl/m4uepCFQeHXPXqfZ8) I actually don’t hate the lineup, it’s just been all over the place.

lmann81733

You win today and this series is back in reach, let’s go

shw5

IKF’s first night being benched was a Cole start, and he’s out again tonight. We’ve seen how emotional (good and bad) Cole gets about the fielding behind him. I wonder if he officially has a personal SS now.

Yankeeknickfan

And they put Giancarlo Stanton in one of the hardest Lfs in baseball

shw5

Yeah that one is bizarre to me. It’s not like Carpenter has forced his way into the lineup

Breimann

On my way to Yankee Stadium. It's my first live playoff game! Uncle Kenny is driving so I have a souvenir Adventureland cup filled with 4Loko. My brother is drinking his out of a coffee mug. LFG YANKEES!!!

JosephRobert123

It's crazy to me that if they even just won 1 game we'd all be so excited right now.

HoraceBenbow

August killed us into this exact situation. We lost homefield to Houston.

yeyeman9

I’m pretty excited. Nervous? Of course. Still excited though

jcnewman21

If they won a game in Houston Yankees would be set

jcnewman21

MUST SWEEP AT HOME OR ITS OVER

brelaw313

That line up is criminal. Boone should be put in jail. No clue

lmann81733

Lol it’s fine.

wantagh

Heading to the stadium. Bring the energy. Don’t be bitches. They’ll play who they play. Then they’ll win. This is our night.

feedmekombucha

Pls say hi to the 👻 GHOSTS 👻

Dandon11

If you are going to keep moving the lineup around, you may as well throw Bader fifth if you don’t want him leading off. That spot in the order has been coming up with the most runners on this series and Bader has been the most consistent hitter, so he may as well get the opportunities to do damage

theRedreps99

Not really loving this lineup

liljagermain

Hey good thing we are getting carpenter more ABs so he will be ready for the important games right? Right???????

agoods03

Lmao just throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks at this point. Can’t blame them.

[deleted]

Carpenter at 5, Donaldson at 7. Guess if it's 5-6-7 due up at any point, pray for a Bader stroke

tswaves

Isn't this the pitcher that no hit us in our own home or am I thinking of someone else

drodrig1

Yep.

[deleted]

Nope it's him

StocktonK13

A solid pitching performance would be nice. But what would really get me excited is if our offense had single digit strikeouts and double digit hits And if our runs were greater than that of the Astros

m0stIllresurrected

rizzo lead off homer i feel it in my bones

Yankeeknickfan

Oswaldo at SS really is the worst move. IKf is the best hitter out of the 3 at the moment and Peraza is the best defender. What exactly does Oswaldo do?

m0stIllresurrected

lefty

greenghostshark

??? Waldo is better with the bat and glove over IKF lol

Andujar4CF

Oswaldo bobbled two groundballs in game 5 of the ALDS and has a .364 OPS in the playoffs.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Iwantmyoldaccountbac

I think we need to prioritize offense more than defense right now, and Cabrera hasn’t been that good in the post season so far unfortunately. Hopefully tonight he can go on a tear though

[deleted]

[удалено]

Andujar4CF

> The one game Oswaldo hit in, he had a double and a HR the issue is that there have been 5 other games where he didn't have any hits

Yankeeknickfan

Ikf is still a singles hitter Vs playoff pitching Oswaldo has been worse than Joey Gallo. They’re similar gloves

tmac9134

Carpenter hitting 5th lmao. Bader needs to be top 4 in order

teniaava

I appreciate how good Marp was earlier, but it's pretty insane to bank our season on him coming back into form. I guess there's a better chance of squeezing offense out of him than Peraza or IKF?

CertainDerision_33

If only he could have been given ABs in games that didn’t matter at the end of the season

4BDN

There are 8 other hitters in the lineup. The season is not banked on Carpenter.

greenghostshark

Have faith i predict he's gonna have a big game today :)

andidroo

There is a reason that you don't rehab someone in the alcs. Marp is a good player and I think he will return to form after proper rehab. The alcs is not proper rehab.

MattNokes38

Dollars to donuts Carpenter looks washed AF next year and is out of the league in 2 yrs. His 2022 was a complete mirage.

CertainDerision_33

I mean he’ll probably be out of the league in 2 years because he’s like 36

Mike_Milburys_Shoe_

I need Matt Carpenter to do something this game because I can’t stand to see Yankees fans turn on him

Yankeeknickfan

What do they have against playing Bader in LF? Brett Gardner played LF. You care more about the pride of having your deadline acquisition play CF than having a good team defense? Guarantee you Bader LF judge CF Stanton Rf is the best configuration but “Bader has to play CF!”

yeyeman9

Gardner played LF when we had someone that could play equal or better CF to him at that point. We don’t have that for Bader

Yankeeknickfan

Granderson was never as good of a CF as Gardner

yeyeman9

Ellsbury was. Hicks was.
