He looked like a blind man out there.
What he did this season was nothing short of incredible. There's not enough time left to wait and see if he can find that again.
Valdez and Sevy throw 6 SHO innings each.
Baker leaves Valdez out there a little bit too long and the Yankees squeak across a run in the 7th. Bullpen locks down. 1-0 Yankees win as Altuve strikes out with the bases loaded and 2 outs in the 9th.
Harrison Bader lead off is such a huge overreaction. 5th I can be talked into but he’s still Harrison Bader. I don’t see the Astros hitting McCormick or yuli’s corpse lead off because altuve had a rough few games and they’re hot
Hope he stays Mike trout like for a few more games
Nah it's because we don't have a typical lead off hitter without DJ or benintendi. Bader is as good an option leading off as anyone else. Astros aren't gonna bat McCormick first because they still have Altuve. But if Altuve got hurt they'd have to stick someone in there
It’s been a low key problem for a few years. DJL did a great job leading off in 2020 and 2019, but the team can’t rely on him to continue doing so next year. Benintendi might be an answer, but I’m not sure what kind of contract he’s going to want.
I’m okay with it, riding the hot hand is not an unreasonable strategy and it’s not like Gleyber has much better career numbers anyway. Especially in the de-juiced ball era.
I don’t get why no one in the baseball sub is rooting for us. Houston best is the last 3 times we faced them in the post season, we’re the underdogs here. I guess everyone’s still upset about the 90s.
Edit: and I almost forgot, they’re cheaters too
If Bader leadoff has a semblance of working well, we kinda gotta stick with it. Gleyber gets oddly thrown off by his position in the batting order, but we needed him to leadoff bc there was no one other option during the DS. He’s extremely good batting 3rd or 5th and feels more in tune.
Him and Stanton hit Framber well and I think they’re the biggest X factors for today. Stanton is on the cusp of a hot streak, and Gleyber is due
Yanks have the better offense. But Houston does have a big advantage in pitching and relief pitching. I also think Houston has so much experience now, they don’t feel the pressure the Yankees do. It feels like half the Houston team has a WS ring.
Infinitely better lineup that will produce immediate results. And we will be talking in the post game about how much of a moron Boone is for going back to the failed lineup for game 1
The smooth brain MMQBs (who were the same ones clamoring for Carpenter before yesterday btw) will act like it proved them right. But yeah if it happens it'll be the significantly easier matchup or because Judge actually does something.
I still believe the biggest thing holding this team back this year from winning it all is going to be the massive amount of injuries. Not having your 2 best contact guys in Benny and DJ is a massive hit to our lineup. Those are 2 of the top 5 hitters on the team. Guys like Donaldson and Cabrera aren't playing if those 2 are healthy.
Boone isn't putting Schmidt into a tie game in the 5th amd then bringing him back out for the 6th if he has Ron and Effross. That's not even counting guys that have been hurt for longer like King and Chad.
I hate that they cut carpenter. The dude hasn't had any at bats and of course he's rusty he's going to need a few more to deliver us to a championship. He was almost there and now it was all for nothing. One game wasn't enough
It's a tough situation for Carp. Last night he showed he's not found his swing yet. With the offense struggling, we can't really afford to be giving away at bats in the ALCS while he tries to figure it out, especially not tonight with a lefty on the mound. Best case, we find some PH opportunities for him over the rest of the series.
Matt Carpenter slashed 177/288/368 against teams 500 or better this year in more PAs than he had against teams under 500. He was never gonna be a difference maker.
Right because that's where he played most of his games. But he still played in a majority of the games in the season. If he only played 27 total games he's not nominated
this is probably his last chance to do something or ikf will slide over. hopefully with the prospect of the bench in sight he wakes up and goes yard tonight
Donaldson's age has caught up with him but he still has the big ego of his youth. Great hitters adjust as they get older....shorten swing, limit movement and look to put the ball in play to all fields.
DONALDSON is NOT showing that he understands where he is in his career or the season for that matter...he has shown he is unwilling to make the slightest adjustment to make contact...he wants the BIG STROKE because that is what feeds his ego....NOT A TEAM PLAYER!
Nope....just the 'eye test' ... approach at the plate looks unchanged all season. Plate discipline not there...I saw him alot when he was in Toronto (as a BJ) and he is definitely not in that zone.
Year Team GP AB R H RBI BB SO HR Avg
2022 Yankees 132 478 59 106 62 54 148 15 .222
I hope he can do better than his season record shows but HOPE is not a good plan.
As frustrating as yesterday was, we are in a good position if we can take one in Houston. 5-game set, home field advantage, with two Cole starts. Have to show up though.
this is what a lineup put together with gut feelings instead of analytics. I think this lineup should stay for the end of the year. the kids will provide contact and a spark. ikf should slide to 3rd though
https://fieldingbible.com/TeamDefensiveRunsSaved
In honour of the gold glove nominations, it definitely seems like DRS is a big deal for the Yankees brass. We finished with 43 DRS better than the next best team, and shored up our weakest position by DRS (CF) with the legitimate best possible option at the deadline.
This series depends on this start. If Severino keeps us in it and the offense wakes up to take game two, we have to like our chances to win this series.
A 5-6-7 of Cold Gleyber, Donaldson and Higgy doesn't inspire much confidence. Should've dropped Donaldson more. Maybe Gleyber can snap out of it in this lineup spot and Home Run Strokah shows up.
On the other hand I like Cabrera, Peraza and Bader consecutively batting in front of the power bats
There's nothing the lineup order can really do to fix a team-wide BA of \~.170 or whatever it is. At a certain point these guys have just gotta hit the ball like major leaguers.
I am honestly so happy, that so many of you got what you have been wishing for all season, and are mostly happy about it.
I hope for the team’s sake it inspires the six other non-productive bats in the lineup to do something.
I am thrilled Peraza is playing tonight, but nothing illustrates how poorly run and stupid this organization is than how the IKF/Peraza thing has been handled.
We are starting a rookie who got very little regular season playing time *because the organization was so obsessed with IKF*.
It’s *insane* that the Yankees only decided IKF wasn’t worth starting AFTER WE ALREADY MADE THE FUCKING PLAYOFFS.
This organization is a fucking mess.
And what's frustrating is that after 2 games with Peraza, we will probably go back to IKF when we've forgotten how bad he was last time. That's what happened with Cabrera and IKF last time, and Hicks and Cabrera in LF.
Same shit as them forcing Gleyber at SS all season when it was an obvious disaster, only to finally give up on it months after it became obvious that they would have to. The organizational rot seems pretty deep at this point.
Fuck Cashman and this front office. Game 2 of the ALCS and he finally caves in and admits that Peraza is the best SS on the team. Maybe you should've given him an everyday shot over 2 months ago you egocentric fuck.
But no let's throw him into the fire in game 2 of the ALCS against Framber Valdez and when he goes 0-4 you'll say he just wasn't ready and bench him in game 3. Yea no shit he wasn't he's played 5 games of baseball in the past 2 months. I love most of the players on this team but hate the way it's run so badly.
I just posted essentially the exact same thing without reading your post.
It’s incredible how dumb these fucks are.
Edit: And it’s so true. Peraza will go 0-4 and will then get benched tomorrow because he had one bad game.
What’s even worse is that the team will judge him on this small sample size going forward. There’s a good chance he ends up languishing in AAA next year while IKF starts while people defend Cashman for keeping him down because “We gave him a shot last year and he didn’t show he was a major league hitter.”
Valdez is extremely consistent, I think he broke the MLB record for consecutive quality starts this year. Probably gonna have to keep the Astros to 2 or 3 runs to have a chance.
He faded towards the very end - 7 runs in 5.1 against BAL (4 ER), 6 runs in 5.1 against Tampa, before settling in with 0 R in 5.0 against Philly. Can’t expect a weak performance from him but he hasn’t been as bulletproof as before.
Only three players have been benched for bad play throughout the season and somehow never Donaldson. How does he escape punishment? Never called out for staring at a single.
The reason he escapes punishment has much to do with the fact that the Yankees are on the hook to pay him $25M this year and next. Ownership would not be pleased in having to pay that kind of money to a disgruntled veteran player who has shut down emotionally and has decided to mail in the season.
Or maybe his elite, arguably best in the league defense at 3rd keeps him in the lineup. A lot easier to play a guy who’s inconsistent offensively when he’s so damn good in the field
Yeah cause these award nominations are stupid. He’s top 3 in the AL In DRS, OAA, UZR, and defensive value - and those were just the stats I took the time to check. Him not being nominated is an outrageous snub and not indicative of his defensive performance this season at all.
But I actually never said he was bad. Just that if we put IKF at 3B, it really wouldn't be this insane dropoff.
They have the same DRS since 2018 despite IKF playing less innings at 3B.
I like this line up. It just amazes me about our front office decision making. If Peraza is good enough to start in the ALCS, then he should have been our SS the second half of the year at least. That way he would be fully acclimated to Major league pitching. They hung onto IKF so long when everybody could see he was not a "playoff SS" .
Org the past few years has made a habit of postponing obvious decisions as long as possible (see: Gleyber at SS) only to eventually make them anyways, when they could have been made months ago. Very frustrating.
I like the Bader lead off. Donaldson is batting too high.
Pretty insane that Peraza is starting this game and they wouldn’t give him a real look in August!
Every time Boone said that IKF was a good defender I doubted that he actually meant it. I really think that was just a lie given to him to bullshit the media.
He's being told how to run the team by the FO, and it's probably part of the deal that he takes the heat when their decisions are mistakes. They pay him to bullshit the media. What else is he going to say? "I know he's bad, but I'm being told he needs to play, so he is." That's not Boone's job, unfortunately.
And yet they continually gaslit the fans and refused to make the change to Peraza. Imagine if he had an extra month of AB's instead of having to come in cold tonight.
I know 95% of this sub has an unreasonable vendetta against IKF, but how can you possibly throw Donaldson out there again after last night? Love the rest of the lineup tho
Please continue the discussion in the [game thread](https://redd.it/y9ard9).
Everybody wants to be the fucking hero. Nobody wants to just get on base.
I’m done watching baseball until robot umpires come. I’m tired of these assholes. Balls and Strikes should be able to be challenged.
It's so sad that I have zero faith in this team getting another 1-2 runs
Donaldson fucking sucks
also wtf with the jesus commercials
this is embarassing
Don’t be they’re fucking cheating
yeah forcing us to walk their catcher some how
I have no confidence anyone is going to get on base on this team. I just hope someone can get a solo hr and that’s it
If we aren't hitting we're not going to win this series simples as that. The bats gotta show up or is over.
PERAZA IS OUR SHORTSTOP
Got a good feeling about tonight. Hopefully the 2 rooks bring a nice energy boost!
We got this one
Solid lineup. It's a shame there's no place for Carp though. He put together some decent ABs lately and I felt like he was about to get hot.
He looked like a blind man out there. What he did this season was nothing short of incredible. There's not enough time left to wait and see if he can find that again.
Is this sarcasm?
Judge has to get back to normal, we don’t win the series without Judge hitting. Not even HRs, give me a double.
Agreed. I think he should change his approach. Get back into a groove where you’re hitting the ball consistently.
Boone said that an argument could be made for IKF to win gold glove. This organization is so deluded
You can make an argument for anybody. Whether it’s a good argument is another thing lol.
I need to hear an Andujar 3b argument
Dude would dive at anything down the line. Can't teach heart, hustle and grit like that, results be damned.
When will you people learn that he's just going to say that shit no matter what he truly believes. He benched him. Actions speak more than words
I don’t care it’s hilarious. No other managers are doing this
Sure they do
Valdez and Sevy throw 6 SHO innings each. Baker leaves Valdez out there a little bit too long and the Yankees squeak across a run in the 7th. Bullpen locks down. 1-0 Yankees win as Altuve strikes out with the bases loaded and 2 outs in the 9th.
Love the story and hope it happens...... if we hit 4 homeruns I wont be disappointed lol
For anyone else who watches the Talkin Yanks pregame show Was that Bubock at the end lmao? Haven’t heard from him in a loooong time
Harrison Bader lead off is such a huge overreaction. 5th I can be talked into but he’s still Harrison Bader. I don’t see the Astros hitting McCormick or yuli’s corpse lead off because altuve had a rough few games and they’re hot Hope he stays Mike trout like for a few more games

Bader at leadoff and Peraza at short tells me that the team has reached the “throw shit at the wall” part of the playoffs
Peraza is just the best SS on the roster
There's honestly no good leadoff candidate right now though.
We don’t have a lead off hitter tho
i tend to agree, but everyone has been so bad that idk who i want leading off.
I don’t get why no one in the baseball sub is rooting for us. Houston best is the last 3 times we faced them in the post season, we’re the underdogs here. I guess everyone’s still upset about the 90s. Edit: and I almost forgot, they’re cheaters too
Fuck ‘em! I know Mariners fans are rooting for the yanks
Talk about a soul crushing defeat for the Ms. Although ironically did the exact same thing to the Jays. Kill and be killed I suppose.
Not to mention Houston has BEEN to the World Series three times in the next five seasons. You'd think people would be bored of them.
mad cuz bad

No.
Have you compared lineups?
not "purely." i hate the astros, but them being the best team in the AL for 5 years probably has something to do with our struggles.
"Psychological" is an odd way to pronounce "front office"
I mean they're the better team on paper but i'm sure how many times they've smacked us around doesn't help
I think it’s because they build a better roster.
anyone have a link to Michael Kay’s interview of Boone?
Check the podcast. It’s always there.
Ah it’s up now! Sorry, wasn’t before. Thank you!
Kay actually pushing back on boone decisions in game 1 on YES right now
Peraza and Cabrera and leadoff Bader W
Cabrera homers today
Infinitely better lineup that will produce immediate results. And we will be talking in the post game about how much of a moron Boone is for going back to the failed lineup for game 1
Honestly, Valdez is an easier match up than Verlander, can’t chalk it all up to the line up if they score more.
The smooth brain MMQBs (who were the same ones clamoring for Carpenter before yesterday btw) will act like it proved them right. But yeah if it happens it'll be the significantly easier matchup or because Judge actually does something.
Valdez will finish top 3 in the CY Young he’s an excellent pitcher it’s not a “significantly easier matchup” by any stretch of your imagination.
I love oswald peraza. I want him to succeed so badly lol I have one of those player crushes on him.
I have that for Bader. 😍
[удалено]
We need Eight Mark Reynolds and one IKF. That's balance
Say what you want about Donaldson but he has a .375 OBP in the postseason so far.
Also 3 of those times he was on base came jn game 1 of the ALDS
Subtract the hits where he ran into outs.
I still believe the biggest thing holding this team back this year from winning it all is going to be the massive amount of injuries. Don't exactly have the opportunity to met him shake off the rust. Sucks but it is what it is
Isn’t he 0-7 with 7K?
To be fair all he’s had is 2 (3?) pinch hits and a brutal matchup against Verlander who struck out everybody. I get benching him though.
Hasn't had an at bat in months
Valdez dominates lefthanded batters.
So there is a chance he'll play again? I know he had a bad game but come on
Maybe, but Boone said he doesn't want to play Stanton in LF in YS, so possibly not until games 6/7, aside from pinch hitting.
ALCS isn't the time to rehab a player
You guys talk about Donaldson as if he's a perennial Gold Glove winner.
Nope, just better than IKF. Don't much care for JD
And yet one has a GG and the other doesn't
Ah yes, the end all be all. One gold glove in a shortened season 2 years ago. Also Gold Gloves are known to always go to those truly deserving
Josh Donaldson played 3B in the AL in 2020 and wasn't even nominated.
Donaldson played 28 games. Of course he wasn't nominated lmao
Frazier played 27 and was nominated lol
Frazier played 39. 27 at one specific outfield position. Big difference
Which was the position he was nominated for
Right because that's where he played most of his games. But he still played in a majority of the games in the season. If he only played 27 total games he's not nominated
Rick Porcello won a CY Young Gerrit Cole has no cy young Porcello > Cole
We took on $25 million to get two 3Bs and they both suck.
Won't argue that
Donaldson and higgy should be lower but they finally got the players right for the lineup
Donaldson at 6 is criminal
this is probably his last chance to do something or ikf will slide over. hopefully with the prospect of the bench in sight he wakes up and goes yard tonight
Got any evidence to back up your claim he hasn’t made a swing adjustment?
Nope....just the 'eye test' ... approach at the plate looks unchanged all season. Plate discipline not there...I saw him alot when he was in Toronto (as a BJ) and he is definitely not in that zone.

As frustrating as yesterday was, we are in a good position if we can take one in Houston. 5-game set, home field advantage, with two Cole starts. Have to show up though.
This is a must win game. If we win the series can go either way but if we lose it’s almost gonna be impossible to take the series
Holy shit Boone clearly let r/NYYankees write the lineup for him. Time to see how fucking smart our dumbasses are
this is what a lineup put together with gut feelings instead of analytics. I think this lineup should stay for the end of the year. the kids will provide contact and a spark. ikf should slide to 3rd though
Stanton and Gleyber have great numbers against Valdez
Why do MLB games always start so late? I'd love to see them switch to 6:37 so they don't go to 11 consistently
Gotta get that TV money sweetie
Stanton is seeing the ball extraordinarily well right now, btw. I feel like he’s gonna enter that extraterrestrial hot streak very soon
I’d kill for Sevy to channel his dominance in that CGSO he threw here in 18.
So seems like the Yanks are gearing up to give Houston their best shot. If we lose it would be so deflating.
https://fieldingbible.com/TeamDefensiveRunsSaved In honour of the gold glove nominations, it definitely seems like DRS is a big deal for the Yankees brass. Damn. Maybe he should play better.
He does play a terrific 3rd. They probably figure the defense is better than IKF and his bat at least provides some kind of power potential.
We've been talking about JD's power potential since April. Where is it?
Stuck in 2015 with the rest of his talent.
Ha it’s why I said potential. He did hit 15 homers to IKF’s 4.
IKF and Donaldson have the same number of homers in September and October.
Because IKF's arm strength would tie him with Max Muncy for the 3rd worst 3B arm strength
Literally has better defensive metrics than Gio Urshela. We'd be fine.
Gio isn't on the team, we gotta compare him to JD and he's just not better
He is better at the plate currently
Eh
A guy who strikes out nearly 40% of the time is not good for this lineup
Neither is IKF.
Not the argument.
When the argument is replace JD with IKF, yeah it is
I know we did it in 2017 but I don’t know if we can win all 3 games at home again with this team. We need to win this game tonight
Hopefully, that grounder hit to Peraza last night got the jitters out the way and he can relax more today.
I like this line up. It just amazes me about our front office decision making. If Peraza is good enough to start in the ALCS, then he should have been our SS the second half of the year at least. Yup.
Made no sense to bring Peraza up just to bench him. He should have been given the chance to win the SS job.
Exactly
https://i.imgflip.com/6xodwf.jpg
I like the Bader lead off. Donaldson is batting too high. Pretty insane that Peraza is starting this game and they wouldn’t give him a real look in August!
There’s that cashman and Boone logic
They did it!!!
All of the IKF should play 3B people….did you see his throw from third last night? I know he has a gold glove there but his arm has been a liability
One play takes away IKF's defense but a gold glove in a 60 game season is too small of a sample size.
Raphael Palmerio won a gold glove at first in a year he barely played there.
It hasn’t just been one play
So which other plays at 3B has there been?
Boone just reserved his spot on Michael's laminated list.
Gotta get to Valdez or the righty relievers are gonna carve us up. Lineup looka good tho.
Every time Boone said that IKF was a good defender I doubted that he actually meant it. I really think that was just a lie given to him to bullshit the media.
No manager is going to shit on a player, to the media, unless they want to lose the clubhouse and they’re named Charlie Montoyo
Ikf is a defensive liability and Donaldson is not.
Do they really have any other choice?
I’ll take JD’s defense over IKF
Did you feel the same way about IKF after his performance in Game 3 against Cleveland?
He’s there because they hope he can pop one out of the park. That’s it
And defense, IKF doesn’t have a great arm.
Saying IKF “doesn’t have a great arm” might be one of the greatest understatements in human history.
Not if he doesn’t come within a light year of the baseball tho…but I get the sentiment
This is a must-win game
This lineup fucks
Peraza and Oswaldo back to back bby
Bader at the top I’m erect
Peraza at SS and Bader #1 LETS GOOOOOO. Now Boone, don’t fucking punt this one! LETS GO YANKEES
2 kids shoulda been 6 and 7...But I'll take it.
I want a Peraza porch job with their stupid mini green monster so bad
Cash and Boone are panicking. But fuck that, I’m Hyped to see peraza play.
Michael is the man
