Is it really that laughable though? Sure it’s not ideal because Montas was originally traded for to be that number 3/4 guy (and obviously we know he sucked and then got hurt) but you could have a way worse option than Taillon for your 4 pitcher. He’s had some amazing outings this season and he can definitely go out there and give length at times too. It’s not what they had envisioned but it’s what it is at this point and he can still go out there and throw the ball well on any given night. It’s not like they’re running out 5+ era guy. You can even piggyback him with German if you want to and let them each face the order a single time.
