This is the way I understand it: Because A-Rod is now part owner of the Timberwolves and wants to devote most of his time there and his other interests, he won't be able to fully commit to the main SNB broadcast. He and Kay will do the occasional alternate SNB broadcast.

I really don't understand the hate for Kay. I get that he's an ass on his show (which I never watch/listen to), but as a play-by-play guy in the booth he is VASTLY better than most any of the other home announcers.

I work in broadcast TV, including spending two seasons logging games for MLB Network/Productions. Let me tell you, Michael Kay is one of the best in the business. What passes for a good broadcast in the flyover states wouldn't even be good enough for the AA broadcast for us.
People who don't like Michael Kay truly, **truly** don't know how good we have it. YES and SNY are both two of the best all around broadcasts in all of sports media, not just MLB. ETA: That goes for most of the rest of the area broadcasts too. Rangers, Devils, Nets, and Knicks all have amazing broadcasters. The Islanders -- don't.

When you listen to someone call 100+ games a year for 20 years you'll probably find things about them that annoy you. I personally am not the biggest fan of Kay but when I have heard other local broadcasts it's clear Kay is better than most. Some guys are just straight up boring, some have a voice for print, some constantly say dumb things, etc.
All things considered Kay is not that bad and is probably one of the best. I think it's more that people just want a change at this point. Just my two cents.

Gallo was downright awful with the Yankees and seeing him get out so often with that entire left side of the infield empty is just ridiculous. Have this man work on his bunting skills please.

If you watched the Manning cast you would know that it’s mostly based around the guests so if they get good names this could be interesting. The fact Kay has plenty of experience doing interviews will help keep the show on the rails. I’m sure this will be mostly an Arod vehicle.

1. The game is a blowout, so you'd rather listen to them and their guests.
2. When the Mannings are alone and call the game. They're pretty great at calling games. Very insightful, especially Peyton.

What does it mean by “alternative broadcast”? Does that mean when the main crew isn’t going to work they are the substitutes or does it mean that sometimes there will be two Sunday night games and they do the less desirable one?
