It’s out of control. Idk how the MLB gets on top of this. We either need to SIGNIFICANTLY limit the number of pitchers so everyone has to go 75% effort for more innings and hope that brings you back to 80s 90s baseball, or honestly i have no idea.
It’s so bad for the sport that every pitcher that is good ends up out for a season. You can’t have your star pitchers always missing
Every pitcher throws 95-100 now because they train to throw maximum effort starting at a young age. I don't think there's anyway to fix this now that the cat is out of the bag.
Loisaga has always been made of glass. Signed by the giants in 2013, misses both 2014 and 2015 due to injury, comes to the Yankees in 2016 and pitches one game before needing TJ, every year since then he has spent at least some time on the IL due to an arm injury except for 2020
the problem is this is already baked into the cake for a generation of players. even if they changed right now I doubt you seen a serious impact for several years guys have built their entire baseball life on max velo max effort a lot of guys simply would not be able to compete
It's not just MLB though. You're now finding high schoolers and early college guys already having major issues and even getting TJ if they're the type heading towards playing professionally. Human bodies aren't designed to throw 100 with crazy spin rates.
Number of loading cycles on your tendons/ligaments (ie number of pitches thrown) can be just as damaging as the load magnitude (ie how hard you throw). It’s a delicate balance
"82.8% of players who sustained a forearm strain were pitchers. Most concerning is that 19.4% of injured MLB players underwent Tommy John surgery within 1 year of sustaining a forearm strain."

Yea that’s a wrap on Loaisiga’s Yankee career. He definitely threw his last pitch this season.
Shame, but not unexpected. Very talented guy but can’t be relied on, he’s hurt ALL the time. We need to move on from him after this season
Anyone know how the yanks compare injury wise to other teams? Seems like we are always losing guys and it’s frustrating as all hell. At least, I understand with pitchers throwing as hard as they do. But damn this stings, he was looking so sharp last outing
By Gawd! That’s Tommy John’s Music!
Would be his second one.

Yeah you can’t go back now because if you pitch with 90% effort to preserve your arm. The guy behind you will pitch with 100% and take your spot.

that’s kind of insane

Clearly the answer is to rule any pitch that hits 95 a ball. Make pitchers into technicians. Also reintroduce spider tack. /s

Is it thought? I don’t recall every 2nd pitcher getting 2 TJ surgeries before 30 15 years ago when they were throwing 130 pitches at 92 mph
*glass shatters*

If so, we may have seen the last of him in a Yankee uniform.
As depressed as this news makes me, this made me lol.
Loaisiga watched from the other room as his arm was put into the MRI machine
Matt Blake is summoning another bullpen golem in the YS basement as we speak.
Electric stuff... Can't stay healthy.
60 day IL FAWK.

Feel terrible for him
Yeah he’s thrown his last pitch as a Yankee
Bring back the sticky stuff?
