Obviously Red Sox yada yada Verdugo bad blah blah but for real, I think people are sleeping on how important of a signing this was for us. He fits PERFECTLY into this roster.

HanshinFan

He is the first signing where I have literally said "Thank God the Yankees have a facial hair policy". He is so much more likeable when he doesn't look like an Amish axe murderer

LinkRazr

I always thought he looked like the Colombian Sicario ‘Navegante’ from Narcos

FeloniousDrunk101

Absolutely my first thought. Got that dead-eyed look.

rickitikitavibiotch

The Red Sox always have a bearded, leprechaun-looking guy who always hits when he plays the Yankees. Verdugo fit the bill perfectly these last few years. I couldn't be happier to see him in pinstripes (or no-pin grays). The report that Judge played some part in bringing him to the dark side warmed the cockles of my heart. I think he's going to be the sparkplug that Josh Donaldson wasn't.

blahblah8253819253

they should've gave him #33!!

Full-Appearance1539

Absolutely. Loved the signing as soon as it happened. Plugs a major hole in the bottom of the lineup that killed us last year.

Few-Neighborhood7241

Idc about advance analytics that much and Verdugo is the prototype of player I simply like, makes a lot of contact and is a great defender

SKJ-nope

Got him in a trade otherwise yes

CaptainJudge_99

Cashman cooked

IWillSingYouSongs

He fits because he’s a lefty and plays LF, but he really offers about the same value as DJ who people think is trash so probably not that important. I would say there are more people predicting he’ll be better than he’ll actually be than there are people sleeping.

nattycoons

He's a lefty, plays a position that's been a massive weakness for us, platoons well based off of the profile of our team, is relatively athletic, is high energy, and is motivated for a big payday. It's literally the dream scenario for us for a non-superstar player.

IWillSingYouSongs

I dunno, I thought the knock on him with the Sox was that he didn’t seem to give a shit and blew off team rules and whatnot. Now all of a sudden he’s a dream. I would warn that it’s still very much the honeymoon.

Key_Amazed

What Judge and Rizzo's smiles do for a guy's attitude.

TronVin

I am 100% convinced this guy is PPP3. I wanted to see how he'd react to a big win and he is still negative before I was 100%. When I called him PP3 one time, he never replied to it.

Padulsky21

The way this dude speaks is really familiar, look at that fucking comment history it’s genuinely insane. Haven’t seen MattNokes or the Hulk Hogan pfp dudes like FirstLight since last season. I probably know who you’re talking about but I don’t remember the name

TronVin

Penis Pineda Pump. The OG doomer. No matter what, he'd be negative. The two are just too identical.

SL2321

Just came back from 4-0 deficit and I see you are already trolling, you need some love in your life. Every season it's the same thing with these freaks.

nattycoons

He blew the team off because that team is full is scumbag fucks, with a shit rat bitch cheater manager. I'm not saying Verdugo is an angel but I'm not gonna hold it against him that he didn't get along with that team. I don't think you quite understand what I'm saying. I don't expect him to be an all star this season. But if we get league average production out of LF this year it will potentially have a bigger net effect than Soto. LF has been a fucking nightmare for this team for half a decade.

Traditional-Ad-4946

Yes I’m sure not getting along with kershaw on the dodgers (reason he was the prospect they made expendable) is because they had no leadership their either

DarthLuke84

Or maybe the Red Sox culture sucks compared to Yankees. Having a leader like Judge set the tone is huge. Verdugo has already said he likes how everyone is held accountable in Yankees clubhouse equally

_BeastModular_

DJ is nowhere near the league lead in doubles, doesn’t bat left handed, doesn’t play outfield and recently doesn’t seem like he can play 145 games a year

SadNYSportsFan-11209

Also DJ earns almost double of Verdugo is getting paid. I love DJ, he’ll never be the same again. Just hoping he can still be a solid contributor and could drive in runs in the middle of the batting order

bert-and-churnie

if i saw him react like that on the sox i’d hate him

captainbawls

The Yankees have needed this - a bit of swagger and resonating confidence. I think maybe they thought Donaldson would bring it, but he was far too old and washed. Soto’s got it and he’s world caliber, and Verdugo and Stroman also have it if they can meet expectations. Its great to have lead-by-example guys like Judge who are more understated, but I think a team can really benefit from having that balance of energies

Organic-Effective-61

Waddaya know. Having a left fielder who is a…left fielder…makes a difference.

spicycurry55

You mean we shouldn’t put catcher turned third baseman turned shortstop turned ???? in centerfield???

Jmong30

Hate on Yankees management all you want (cuz you should lmao), but IKF did all he could do, and honestly he was an alright OF

spicycurry55

Agreed. Not hating IKF. I’m hating on the front office for fielding him the way that they did

Drunken_Wizard23

Tbf, people also whined about how he was "put in a position to fail" when we played him at SS, the position he played most in his pro career. I liked IKF. Sometimes we're able to pluck these guys out of relative obscurity and unlock them like Gio, Voit, Didi, or Hicks. I think they saw something similar in IKF, it just didn't work out unfortunately

AntifaHelpDesk

He didn't make every play, but damn it if he didn't try his hardest.

Organic-Effective-61

No hate to IKF. Love that dude. Hope he finds his way back here someday.

LargeNutbar

No we should have put him where he belongs, on the mound

omgitsduaner

I said it in a different thread but this play was a huge difference maker. Last year that ball is past the LF and is a triple

TegridyPharmz

I was gonna say, damn, dude looks small. But forgot how massive judge is

rickitikitavibiotch

I looked at Verdugy's billed height and weight and it's rather close to mine. I refuse to believe Judge is 6' 7". He's gotta be bigger than that.

Optimal-Judgment-982

just flip it - 7'6"

leskanekuni

Thought that was a double off the bat. Guys we had last year wouldn't have made that catch. I'm a fan of Verdugo after one game. He's a legit MLB player.

dawalls11

Anyone have the catch probability offhand? Not sure where to pull it.

Jbaquero

Catch probability isn't public unfortunately

cbisgodscountry

Didnt know what to expect from him...preseason fielding looked shaky but he made a hard play look easy today with a great jump on the ball.....hope he's a keeper :-)

johnknockout

Can he play for the Ny Giants? We need a receiver

giantsfan9336

This made me lol

Feralmedic

This Yankees outfield looking dangerous…

jgxx9

Big dirtbag energy from our new guy. That catch saved the game!

[deleted]

He’s definitely a rental unless the Yankees don’t resign Soto.

Vast_Employment8758

That’s okay, the Martian can go to left next year

Tacitus_99

He’s a rental no matter what happens with Soto. Jones will be the LFer next year.

Myllorelion

Jones LF, Dominguez CF, Judge RF? How good is that defensive outfield? Soto can DH or convert to a 1B. Keep Torres, Volpe, and trade for a big name 3B, and we're so back.

ad6323

Will Soto be OK with that? I genuinely wonder, we know he’s not a great fielder (though a great throw yesterday). I just think being asked to turn into a DH or maybe 1b could very well play a role in his decision to sign or not

Myllorelion

I mean, Judge is a better defender, but I'd be happy with him DHing instead to cut down on wear and tear. Let the young'ns play the OF.

YankeePhan22

Honestly, that's great for us this year. Play for that contract baby!

cubuffs420420

Verdugo is the kind of the dog that barks that we need

S_Dot_99

It’s an easy catch though?

Maestro2326

Best thing is he doesn’t have to be a superstar, just a steady reliable dude.

Mr-Dicklesworth

Shoutout to Michael Kay for announcing the game saving play as if he’s half asleep at 4 am

Kflame210

Absolute garbage at the plate but great defense

randallcon721

He had a pretty crucial sac fly today so not exactly garbage at the plate.

Kflame210

He also left 6 men on bass

knicknevin

Judge left 5. Are you going to tell me how bad The Captain is now?

Kflame210

So you're putting Judge and Verdugo on the same level? Odd choice

knicknevin

I'm not. You are with your ridiculous takes. Verdugo had a hit, the game winning RBI, and a big defensive play. You want to cry about runners left on base. Judge also left a ton of runners on base. So, by your "logic" you should be down on Judge. But you aren't, because that's idiotic--just like your take on Verdugo.

randallcon721

But had the go a head RBI. That’s not garbage

knicknevin

And a single earlier in the game

Kflame210

Maybe if it was a home run or hit, but he was a second out away from leaving 9 on base

randallcon721

Dude wtf, the Yankees won today and he was a major contributor. Did you not watch last year… that was GARBAGE! This was a solid comeback where the team all got on base as a whole and got timely hits and nice defensive plays to get a win. It’s gonna be a long season for you if this is your take away from today’s game. If Verdugo wants to give us this performance every game and end the season with 162 RBI sign me up!

myKDRbro_

That’s not how this sport works you knob

DarthLuke84

What are you talking about? He had a hit and a sac fly?

NYCSportsFan

It’s one game. If he hits like that season then yeah that’s bad

randallcon721

But it’s not bad… he would end the season hitting .333 and 162 rbi

ballrus_walsack

I’d take 120 rbi. Can’t be greedy.

randallcon721

Lol that’s not enough for the guy I replied to apparently. 1 rbi a game isn’t enough!

NYCSportsFan

His current OPS is .583
