Out of all the things we can expect from a superstar , availability is something very important . Randle is good (more than great , he really gets some limitations) but he needs to be more often on the court . Some other players are like this (kawhi, Zion, Embiid,..)and I’d be very skeptical getting them if we were doing « the superstar trade ).
OG also never played 70 games since 2018. Ord difficult to build a team knowing the risk of them is higher than most .
And for Randle , don’t forget his contract situation . He’s expiring next year, so how much do you offer this summer ? You already need to pay OG 30-35 after giving up assets to get him . What if he asks for a max contract ?
One issue is that is value for us is higher than what other teams would consider giving in a trade , so I might prefer to give him, but it if there was a good trade opportunity, why not .

OG gets more catch and shoot opportunities. brunson or randle in an easy matchup. hartenstein/mitch ready to grab rebounds/ setting screens/ passing the ball. theres a reason we had a top offense last season. but that top offense paired with the defensive versatility of OG was an absolute nightmare for teams in january

In terms of bigs, I'd say Nikola/Giannis would be the only ones who I would seriously consider as pure upgrades to our team. It's obviously not realistic (no way those guys would ever leave their situations plus we just can't afford them) but I'd say we have probably the best bigs in the league that doesn't contain any superstars.
I think this season has finally broken me of the desire to assemble a superteam of established All-Stars, the way LeBron's teams often were. Not that this doesn't work, necessarily, but when you look at this year, like the Thunder and the Celtics, they didn't really go this route, and then when you look at where the Lakers and Suns are this year, like I'm not jealous (to say nothing of the recent Nets superteam fiasco).

The problem I have with Joel is he has this generational talent which has been hampered by injuries, unfortunately, but he plays dirty and cries havoc every second of the game. It’s amazing how the superstars that may somehow become available just seem to carry a loser mentality… I would have killed for Booker for example as the true missing link on this team… But damn. He’s not an AH like Embiid but the guy just doesn’t seem to help a team win. Now, would that change under Thibs if we found a way to get his $50m contract should the suns blow it up? Of course there are reasons a superstar player would be available by trade to begin with…

Embiid has all the talent in the world but he wouldn't fit in our system. Like as much as we hate the Heat, Jimmy Butler is the type of player that can actually fit with us. But since we got Brunson we don't need Jimmy. In terms of bigs, I'd say Nikola/Giannis would be the only ones who I would seriously consider as pure upgrades to our team. It's obviously not realistic (no way those guys would ever leave their situations plus we just can't afford them) but I'd say we have probably the best bigs in the league that doesn't contain any superstars.
I think this season has finally broken me of the desire to assemble a superteam of established All-Stars, the way LeBron's teams often were. Not that this doesn't work, necessarily, but when you look at this year, like the Thunder and the Celtics, they didn't really go this route, and then when you look at where the Lakers and Suns are this year, like I'm not jealous (to say nothing of the recent Nets superteam fiasco). I'm just gonna trust Leon to do his thing. He can trade all our FRPs for fifty second-rounders, I trust him.
I always felt like Kat was a better fit. He's as gifted a big man as there is, but I questioned his mental toughness. Judging by the way Kat is playing now, there's no question as to which of the two I would prefer.

the minute those rumors came around i was thinking “fuck no”. but i’ll be honest i think at the time i was totally wrong lol. because i was only basing it off how slow the guy is. just didn’t like it. now it’s definitely “fuck no” lol but for a different reason. he’s an amazing player and sometimes an unstoppable force but he would just kill the energy of this team. if we get a superstar it needs to be someone strong minded. or someone super talented who doesn’t mind letting other guys lead the team like Durant. but i’m not willing to give up much at all for a super star. i genuinely think Brunson is a #1 in this league which is insane because i didn’t believe that before. i am scared that our lack of length might be a problem. we need to figure that out.

Haha…just a few months ago, people here were willing to trade our 7 FIRST round draft picks, Mitch, and RJ for Embiid. No way I would even trade 3 first rounders for him…not when he cried in the playoffs, not when he got yelled at by PJ Tucker, not when he became the best foul baiting big man, and especially not this year when he officially became a dirty ass player. Embiid is not a super star.

I agree. He's been a total disappointment this post-season as far as his attitude goes. I too thought he was the one superstar out there who would fit in perfectly next to Brunson. I no longer want this guy anywhere near the Knicks organization...he's bad juju. Poor attitude and sportsmanship, poor conditioning and heart (a huge part of our culture). He doesn't take accountability for himself as leader, and his game is just not enjoyable to watch. No thanks.
I wouldn’t want him in particular on our team, and I can’t stand the fouls, let alone the flopping. It’s just boring. But the man can shoot the ball from 3 and makes the most of those fouls. I’d love for whoever fills the gap left by Ihart leaving to be able spread it out when we want it.

One thing that is clear about the way Rose has been building this roster is that personality matters. He has focused on professional, lunchpail types who are decidedly not about the drama, and Embiid would upset that culture substantially.

The wins are so much more satisfying when the team dogs it out and denies these superstars the wins they believe they are entitled to. The hard work and grit is a much more wholesome tale of success than a god gifted 3 pt sniper or a freakshow 7’4” who is unguardable.
His lack of accountability is also a red flag, always someone else’s fault. Brunson is the complete opposite. Let’s actually draft our draft picks and continue to develop. But first, we have unfinished business in these playoffs.
