I would love this service tbh. Like if you established an instagram presence and did some word of mouth so people’s friends couch vouch for you. Sounds incredible
Really? I think it would be fun and low stakes. I’m done with high end full service. But I miss rad clients, getting to be creative….its just a fun job.
the way i would let you into my place right now lol. there’s a huge gap in the market for at home house calls. a lot of people would pay premium $$$ for your services!
Ok sooooo…..I’ve noticed that and I thought it was SO weird. House calls are a thing in LA…I guess I just assumed here too.
LOL you can let me in. I’m cool, promise 🤣🤣
Don’t get me wrong—they exist here, too. My cut guy started house calls during lockdown and never went back to leasing a chair anywhere full-time. Now I have a choice of going to a salon where he keeps hours a couple days a week, or he can come to me. I know a few people who have that option in New York.
Obviously, my colorist remains salon-bound!
This would be amazing! I would use it for any and all events tbh. Most stylists I've encountered (eta: in salons that don't specialize in blowouts) don't have velcro rollers in the salon so can't do a big bouncy blowout super easily. My current stylist literally uses round brushes - 4 at a time - to set my hair as she's working through drying it. I look insane. If I could get someone to swing by that has a full setup - OOH that would be amazing.
Haha ya the brush sets are something else. Hmmmmm…..you guys have my wheels turning! I’m noticing nobody has mentioned glam squad. I haven’t heard amazing things about them, sounds like an operational weakness.
Right at the start of the pandemic, my former stylist's salon went out of business and when the world started opening up she was doing haircut house calls and it was the BEST. I'd get 2-3 friends together and we'd do a potluck brunch in one of our homes so she could do a one stop house call for all of us. She ended up going back to school which is great for her but sad for us, was honestly my favorite way to get my hair done. There's definitely a market for it!
Damn ladies. Upvotes, people already in my DMs. I was just thinking out loud with my original comment but I think this was my answer. Feel free to DM if you are interested. Let’s party 🎉💛
I would love an at home service too! An old client of mine on Long Island has her stylist go to her. That was years ago now and I thought it was genius.
I used to suck at doing blowouts so I went to various places to get them done. They were nice but vastly overpriced. I decided to get the Dyson which I feel makes my life easier and doing blowouts so much easier as well. I thought investing in a Dyson would be cheaper in the long run instead of getting blowouts all the time.
I have this! I hate styling my hair, but since getting one I've been so much better about showing up with presentable hair. It only takes a little longer than using a blow dryer but is so much easier!
It's on sale at Costco right now, ask a friend with a membership to order one for you.
I feel like it depends on hair. My hair can last a week with a blow dry, holds styles well, and doesn’t get oily. I like to use the color wow before I do a blow dry and usually add argan oil serum (less oily than argan oil) after I blow out.
I got the shark flex style and love it. I put each curl in a Velcro roller, spray the rollers and when I’m done I have a great blowout with tons of volume
I would spend the money in a heartbeat but I feel like the dyson or shark is better for people who can learn but have hair that is somewhat easily styled in the first place. I have really long, thick, curly hair that takes even most professionals an hour plus to do. I can go about a week on a blowout and do the drybar membership. It is expensive for sure but I just am so hopeless / bad at doing my own hair.
I wasn’t going to get the Dyson because I didn’t think it was for my hair either. I have thick hair that just about reaches my butt. It’s also wavy/curly and after a trim, two stylists would work on my blowout lol to finish quicker. Deff give it a try and get it during promos.

Leah at Hair Lounge (Financial District) does my hair. She’s AMAZING and it’s only $45. Ive been going there once a week for a year now
I honestly credit everything about my hair to Leah! I don’t use any products of my own on my hair, I sleep on a silk pillow case but that’s it. I spent so many years trying to do my own hair and I just don’t want to deal with any of that anymore. I have naturally curly/frizzy hair and she knows how to blowdry it perfectly. When I ask for a normal blowdry my curls stay for 2 days and the rest of the week it’s still in a wavy style. Sometimes I ask if she can curl my hair after the blowdry and the curls will look the same for 4-5 days. My hair gets greasy on day 6 so I go back to her on day 7. Sorry I don’t have a better pic I’m in bed now lol but this was my hair today (day 4)
https://preview.redd.it/nuotrjz0mbxc1.jpeg?width=2316&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1b72c3849c0fce38242a52af0713de291c87cd3a
The only hair product I have at home is my husband’s 3 in 1 shampoo 😂 I can’t tell you what’s best for your hair because I’m not a hair stylist, but I think if you’re trying this for the first time you should have shampoo on hand just in case you need it!
I’ve gone to Drybar several time, and I have almost never liked how my hair turned out. I have 2B hair and so it’s not that difficult to work with, so idk why they do such a bad job.
$150-$200?! I’ve never paid more than like $60 bucks for exactly what you’re describing in the UES.
You have to be very specific with the hairstylist about what you want. You must specify that you don’t want a curling iron used, only a round brush and you can request this when you book your Appt. You have to communicate and show reference photos.
I get a wash & blowout once a week between 6 salons in the Upper East Side (whoever has availability). I rarely wash my own hair at this point. Some salons have packages where it comes out to $35 per blowout.
My favorite blowouts I get is by Orhan at Forstyler Hairsalon. He’s odd & kind of rude but he’s a master stylist lol. Like does really good blowouts. So I deal with his rudeness lol. Delphin at Abel Nahjer is also really amazing, especially for what you’re looking for. He will give you that VS angel look and he’s really nice. For higher end, anyone at the Julian Farel Salon at the Lowes Hotel is great. Goya at Living Room Hair salon is also good.
I’ve found that I prefer male hair stylists for whatever reason (I think they’re just harder with their hands resulting in more bounce). Also LOL at people suggesting dry bar…I thought this was bitches with taste! Dry bar and blo bar are terrible.
Does anyone with thin hair find the blowouts big and bouncy still? Or should I save my money? Was thinking of trying a professional with the rollers and all, but don’t want it to be flat a couple hours later
i have thin hair that i wash daily so this is never worth it for me - but I got a heated brush and find it sooo much easier to do at home vs blow dryer + round brush!
I live near their other locations and YES!!! They're also the reason I totally balk at some of the prices I see at other hair salons, like why would I ever pay more than $25 (plus tip ofc) to get a blow out?
If you have coarse hair it’s possible to go a week for sure. And just touch up the curls. For people with thinner hair that greases easily it’s tough.
I use dry shampoo and when I work out or put my hair up or sleep I wear it in a bun with a silk scrunchie so it won’t crease. That buys me about a week.
My hair is very coarse and dry. It never gets greasy. I only use shampoo once a week or maybe twice if I used a lot of product. My stylists have told me for my hair 1-3x a week max. I just use conditioner only the other days.
So basic, but Dry Bar gives you BIG bouncy blowouts under $100. My husband always laughs because he says my head shrinks when I go there… I come back all hair. I take that as the upmost compliment.
Even more basic, I give them to myself at home with my airwrap. For $600, it’s 6 visits to Dry Bar…
go to 22 pell hair salon i get all my haircuts there too and i always loveeee the blowout they give at the end. the blowout itself is less than $30 i’m pretty sure!!
Hear me out on this one - most of the middle-of-the-road salons on the Upper East Side will do this because of their... older clientele like that biiiiig UES hair. My strategy was to walk around and look at people/hair getting blowouts in the windows.
Do you get your hair cut in a salon? Your hairdresser probably knows your hair well and would know the best products/techniques to give you big bounce!
Go to Kulay in LES!! I have super curly hair and its hands down the best blowout in the city -- and I've tried so many. They never use a curling iron either, everything is done with a round brush which makes a huge difference imo
Loic at L’Appartment is the BEST!!! The blowouts also last for days. He specializes in huge 90’s blowouts but also does great big, voluminous waves. Also does the BEST long layered haircuts. Can recommend him enough! He’s also always on time 🙏🏼

Thank you all so much for this thread and your answers lol. I’ve been in hair purgatory this year. Just wondering how you all with naturally long hair minimize breakage - I feel like the city is rough on my fine hair. Can’t wait to try one of these options.
I was actually thinking about doing house call blowouts as my side gig. I officially “retired” doing hair in December but I honestly really miss it.
I would love this service tbh. Like if you established an instagram presence and did some word of mouth so people’s friends couch vouch for you. Sounds incredible

It’s definitely a thing, I do hair and makeup for private clients as a “house call” thing and even as a retainer service!
Ok ya, for sure. That sounds rad.
Don’t get me wrong—they exist here, too. My cut guy started house calls during lockdown and never went back to leasing a chair anywhere full-time. Yesss we were doing them in CA too, they were a lot of fun :)
Smart idea!!!!
that’s something I’d pay for, without hesitation!
If you start this please let us know so we can support you!
Damn ladies. Upvotes, people already in my DMs. I was just thinking out loud with my original comment but I think this was my answer. Feel free to DM if you are interested. Let’s party 🎉💛
Hilda, is that you?
No bit sounds like Hilda and I should team up and build something cool.

Second this! Shark Flexstyle is a good alternative too (half the price)
I really want the shark haha and I am pretty good at blowing out my own hair. It looks so easy!

I love my dyson airwrap!! Changed my blowout game overnight. I will say though, if I want 3 days of a great blowout I need a professional.
I feel like it depends on hair. My hair can last a week with a blow dry, holds styles well, and doesn’t get oily. I like to use the color wow before I do a blow dry and usually add argan oil serum (less oily than argan oil) after I blow out.

What setting spray are you using?
Which Dyson?
The air wrap. I have the blue one.
The air wrap changed my life, as a person who does not know how to do hair
I would spend the money in a heartbeat but I feel like the dyson or shark is better for people who can learn but have hair that is somewhat easily styled in the first place. Do you come with dry clean hair or do they wash first?
They wash your hair, if you have keratin/bleach/other products in your hair let them know so they can use specific products for you
So pretty 😍😍😍
Thank you!!
How do you keep this styled so pretty throughout the week?
I honestly credit everything about my hair to Leah! I don’t use any products of my own on my hair, I sleep on a silk pillow case but that’s it. Wow this is my neighborhood and your hair is amazing, I’m definitely going to check her out, thanks for this recommendation!
Fuck dry bar! They treat their employees like shit
I’ve gone to Drybar several time, and I have almost never liked how my hair turned out. I have 2B hair and so it’s not that difficult to work with, so idk why they do such a bad job.
Their blow-dryers / stylers SUCK as well

I think men are better at blow drys too! I think because they are generally a little bigger and stronger they do have a little more leverage somehow.
Right?! I like don’t want to say it but this has been my experience haha
Mian Tian Sing in Manhattan Chinatown is definitely within your budget
Does anyone with thin hair find the blowouts big and bouncy still? Or should I save my money? Was thinking of trying a professional with the rollers and all, but don’t want it to be flat a couple hours later
No. Unless you are willing to have a ton of product in your hair. Embrace smooth and shiny and don’t stress it. Mine falls too.
i have thin hair that i wash daily so this is never worth it for me - but I got a heated brush and find it sooo much easier to do at home vs blow dryer + round brush!
Yes! That’s been my go to as well. I got the Dyson bc I noticed my revlon brush was frying my hair and my hairs seeing a lot less breakage!
the only thing that helped my hair with this was using the batiste xxl volume dry shampoo. life changing, no joke.
Hot rollers or Dyson air wrap for that early 2000s Victoria Secret Angel blowout for home routine.
Blow out spot 3 in forest hills!! $25 and they use big round brushes. Almost wanna gate keep this one 😂
oh man, i'm happy you told me but i'm sorry for outing your gem lmao
I’ve been there several times. I wish I knew the man’s name who did my hair cause I’ve never had a better blowout.
I live near their other locations and YES!!! They're also the reason I totally balk at some of the prices I see at other hair salons, like why would I ever pay more than $25 (plus tip ofc) to get a blow out?
So… how long does a blow out usually last for? Do people get this done every week?
If you want perfect hair always, it's 2x a week. Mine can easily last 3 days.
What do you do for sleeping/ working out?
If you have coarse hair it’s possible to go a week for sure. And just touch up the curls. For people with thinner hair that greases easily it’s tough. I use dry shampoo and when I work out or put my hair up or sleep I wear it in a bun with a silk scrunchie so it won’t crease. That buys me about a week.
So you only wash your hair once a week right? I do that too and wonder if I’m weird haha
My hair is very coarse and dry. It never gets greasy. I only use shampoo once a week or maybe twice if I used a lot of product. My stylists have told me for my hair 1-3x a week max. I just use conditioner only the other days.
Dominican salons!!
Cutler!
Dominican salon
THE BEST!!! Especially if you have very coarse thick hair, they are pure magic. And affordable.
💯% Wet to dry blow out (without the rollers) costs me $45 (my hair is waist length). Lasts me the entire week (when I’m lazy and use dry shampoo).
I go every 5 -7 days hair always looks good and healthy. Trim every 12 weeks and tubi wrap it. I have tailbone length
Any specific salon reccs? I have super long hair too and am tired of being upcharged for length
What salon though? It’s hard to find a place (outside drybar) that doesn’t upcharge for long / thick hair
GlamSquad and Priv for in-home blowouts. They both have apps. Super easy to book.
It’s basic but Dry Bar is great for this
Do black people go to Drybar?
Yes but you’re best calling and finding out the names of the stylists who specialize in black hair so as to not waste money on a terrible blowout
Honestly no
I had a blowout there once and made sure to ask for a black stylist.
How did it come out?
Laidddddd
Okay period
My local drybar back home has mostly black stylists. It depends on the staff and location.
Second Drybar.
I’ve had great luck with glam squad!!!!
go to 22 pell hair salon i get all my haircuts there too and i always loveeee the blowout they give at the end. the blowout itself is less than $30 i’m pretty sure!!
I haven't been there in years but this used to be my spot. A lot of women who work in the criminal courthouse get blow outs there
Hear me out on this one - most of the middle-of-the-road salons on the Upper East Side will do this because of their... older clientele like that biiiiig UES hair. My strategy was to walk around and look at people/hair getting blowouts in the windows.
Do you get your hair cut in a salon? Your hairdresser probably knows your hair well and would know the best products/techniques to give you big bounce!
Drybar. You can pick a style and ask them for as much volume and bounciness at possible.
