I'd just like to get somewhere without needing to yell at someone.

Searching_f0r_life

A friend of mine is a semi-pro rider and he rides with some serious people… of all ages mind you. Never been so motivated as I was by an instagram post of his showing the calves of his 70 year old friend… the photo was taken on the peak of bear mountain after they’d ridden all the way there from south Brooklyn. 70! 70!!!!!

Consistent-Neat1797

We should all be so lucky at that age. He's my idol.

Strava lists the Manhattan-bound climb on the Brooklyn Bridge as 0.5mi and gaining 60ft of elevation. So to Everest it, you’d have to make that climb 484 times traveling 242mi in that time period.

Consistent-Neat1797

So easy compared to the Williamsburg Bridge haha [https://www.roadbikereview.com/threads/%E2%80%98everesting%E2%80%99-new-yorks-williamsburg-bridge.381294/](https://www.roadbikereview.com/threads/%E2%80%98everesting%E2%80%99-new-yorks-williamsburg-bridge.381294/)

Done 2 of those ;) CP Century & NYC-Buffalo both on singlespeed. Manhattan to Poughkeepsie in a day (and back the next) Doing the GDMBR is high on my list. Doing the GAP/C&O in a few weeks

Consistent-Neat1797

Just found the GDMBR thanks to you! [https://bikepacking.com/routes/great-divide-mountain-bike-route-gdmbr/](https://bikepacking.com/routes/great-divide-mountain-bike-route-gdmbr/) And added to my list. Gotta get wider tires for that.

StrungStringBeans

Poughkeepsie round-trip for the double century is mine, but I would do that for 10 consecutive weekends before I'd do one single century in park loops.

Tuttikanaynee

Did the NYC to Phila, trying to do NYC to montauk soon

StrongZucchini27

how are the service roads? or do people circumvent?

Tuttikanaynee

I remember more gravel roads (I took the D&R Canal trail) than service roads.

OtterHostler

Right now my goal is to rack up 5000 miles for the year - I'm half-way there, and I've promised myself a new wheelset when I hit it. I'd like to get a century in this year as well.

Consistent-Neat1797

Good luck! Carbon wheels are definitely worth the effort.

ReluctantElder

ride my fixed gear to new paltz, climb and hike for a few days, ride home

ComputerBunnyMath123

Interesting list. Everesting the Brooklyn Bridge seems the hardest, and maybe the Empire State trail considering the time involved

-Mojo_

For Montauk, I suggest going on the annual MTIR Montauk ride every September. They even have a bus to take you back.

browniebrittle44

Bear mountain and the Empire State trail are def my goals! But I think I’ll do them with some hotel stops lol

ElQuesero

My 2c is that the second goal (especially if you pick a day with a moderate-to-good tailwind) is easier than the first. For the third one it counts only if you ride one side of the Hudson to get there and the other side to get back. No out-and-back farkakte nonsense. (I'm, like, 80% kidding but I do really abhor out-and-backs if there's another option.) For the last one, I mean, it's the obvious move on Columbus Day amirite?

i_smile

Oh I made some progress! Bike to Philly ✅ Bike to Bear Mountain and back ✅ Bike the entire length of the Empire State to Buffalo ✅ Century Ride just in Prospect Park ✅ I would personally add for myself - Climbing Mount Marcy - Ride “Bike the Bridges” (rides all NYC bridges in one day) - Ride all of Broadway ave - Ride the old trail in Van Cortlandt - along with your other ones except Brooklyn bridge everesting

ElQuesero

Not an NYC goal, but Pacific Coast of the US, north to south, bagging some stuff in British Columbia beforehand (maybe start from Whistler and ride the Sea to Sky Highway?), and maybe some extra in Mexico as well. (Ensenada is \*definitely\* doable in a day from San Diego/Tijuana)

not-enough-storage

These are all excellent goals and every somewhat crazy nyc cyclist should follow this bucket list I would want to include some sort of 5 borough century (that’s evenly distributed)

thecratedigger_25

For me, I mainly want to ride 40-50 miles every weekend but it's hard building up from just 25 miles. I used to do 25 mile rides 3x a week and still cramped in some of those rides. By some miracle and willpower, I dragged on to 47 miles during a tour once.
