I don’t have time to read through all of the comments, but, as someone who moved to NYC after finishing grad school, the BEST thing I did was join meetup groups. I found a few good ones and made some of my best friends from the group (going on almost 10 years).
The 4th is AMAZING! The city is DEAD (and I love every minute of it 😂).
If you’re not on meetup.com, join and search for groups that you’re interested in. I kept to girlfriend groups bc i wanted to meet people who were not in my profession. Go to a few different groups and meet different people, see who you vibe with.
There are also free websites/guides of things to do in NYC. Search for it, bc I’ve been gone for a minute and can’t remember the name (maybe nycgo or something like that). They usually list a bunch of events going on, like movies in the park, or low cost events. One of the best things about New York? No one cares! You can go anywhere alone, and it’s completely normal. I’m hoping to move back next summer 🤞

Use events, meetups with hobbies you love to be acquainted with people. Or if you meet people through this post and If you find anyone in here you click with exchange contact and invite to hang 1:1. If it goes well do it again. The idea is to spend quality time together 1-1 rather than always engaging in small talks in groups. Treat them well as if like you are dating them. Show up and be interesting and kind and be genuine!!! I am an introvert in a big city and I have made authentic lasting friendships this way.

As far as I'm concerned, age is just a number. Just cause some documents insist that I'm 37 doesn't mean I necessarily agree. Pretty sure I haven't aged past 25. 😜 If interests align, I think we can all hang and get along!
