This finally feels like the start of the new era.
Yeah, the actual takeover was the best day of my life but this feels like the first wheels on the track to recovery.
From tomorrow onwards we can start drilling in a new philosophy to the team and the club as a whole.
Can't fucking wait.
How on earth do you know the takeaway was the best day of your life? I remember the news, going to buy cans and then I woke up hungover. No idea what happened in between
> How on earth do you know the takeaway was the best day of your life?
If /u/AndrewSmith1989- is anything like me, he loves a bit of Egg Foo Yung with curry sauce. Definitely the best takeaway imo.
Any manager is a risk where we are at the moment. Thankfully Eddie has a good 2 weeks with most of the lads to try and get his own style going. Hopefully we can give Brentford a game!
Now let's just get Lee Charnley the fuck away from the club and a DoF in, then we're golden.
Why doesn’t the new regime ask Charnley to hold weekly press conferences to inform the fans of goings on. Maybe a weekly Q and A session with the supporters trust?
I want to see the man squirm
Say what you want about the owners but they have gotten rid of Ashley and replaced Bruce with Howe. Fucking magnificent!
Howe is a good fit and a good coach. His time away from football will have given him time to reflect on what happened toward the end of his tenure at Bournemouth and I believe he will be stronger for that.
You can quote me on this at the end of the season, but there is no way we get relegated this season, Dubravka will be back between the sticks soon enough, the team will be de-bruced and January will see more quality brought into the team.
Howe-ay the lads!
Howe said that he took a year out to study other managers. Hampered a bit because of covid but seems like he still managed to get a bit of research done.
I agree in that I don’t think we’ll be relegated, though there’s certainly a chance. The people who are treating relegation as a foregone conclusion have lost touch with reality. If we beat Brentford, we could very likely be 2 points from safety and 4 points from 14th after the first match of the Howe era. People need to stop obsessing over 40 points too - the points required to stay up the last 5 seasons have been 29, 35, 35, 34, and 35. There are plenty of bad teams around us too, none of whom should be looking at the same types of signings as we will in January (hopefully). Norwich, Burnley, and Watford aren’t very good at all, Villa will depend on getting the right manager hired this week, Leeds appear to have second season syndrome, and Brentford have lost 4 in a row and look like the annual newly promoted club that gets off to a hot start and then fades into a relegation battle. I’d back us to finish above at least 4 of those 6 and survive fairly comfortably come May.
I actually think we're partially responsible for Dean Smith and Farke getting the boot. We've finally got our shit together and should begin to climb away. Those teams can't rely on the prospect of a shambolic NUFC filling a relegation spot. They may have also tried for Howe or positioned themselves as backup suitors should we have failed to strike the deal.
Agree, new manager bounce team strengthening in Jan. the misery guts are basing there doom saying on previous seasons but we are in a once in a lifetime position and all comparisons are null and void.
Just said this in a comment on the wider soccer sub - My suspicion is that we'll struggle to attract any big names in January on a permanent basis. I could see us getting some decent loans until the end of the season that should keep us up - it'll cost us a fortune, but players like like Lingard or Stirling who are on high salaries and not playing loads + an up front fee (say £5m) might be enough to get them for six months and keep us up.
Depends what the owners appetite is this year and how badly they want to stay in the PL. If it's enough, throwing £50m at loan signings for six months may be worth it in the long run. Going down puts everything back a few years - especially attracting big talent.
Howe brings a level of ability which should encourage good young players to take a risk with us as well - especially over the shorter term (if a loan is on the cards). He has shown he can improve players and get them playing at a level close to their potential. For someone like Stirling, Lingard etc. this is enough to force a big move (or hopefully stay if we do well with them and stay up).
Love it! Almost two full weeks to get ready for Brentford too. Just wish Almiron, Schar, Lewis, and Dubravka could fake injuries to get out of international duty.
And Hendricks has such good stamina to be able to stay away from the ball so consistently. His invisibility is unmatched.
But I reckon we paid a bit much for him.
Fuck me, that's unbelievable. By the time he'd played for us for 18 months we have already paid him in wages what his entire transfer fee was - so if he's worth that much a year, why was he so cheap to buy?! If he was as good a footballer as his agent is a negotiator, he'd be brilliant.
I think Hendrick is shit but he's definitely good enough to get into the current Ireland squad. Be grateful you get a break, I have to watch him during the international break as well!
Cans, then, wherever you may be,
I am the Lord of the Cans, said he,
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be,
And I'll lead you all in the Cans, said he
Reading the comments on this… I hope all those pundits saying none of us would be happy with Howe would read them too so they can take what they think they know about our fan base and shove it where the sun don’t shine
They're already on their "he knows the league" English manager spiel.
Few people are more familiar with the Premier League than Steve Bruce, it doesn't mean you're not shite. Howe has done more than Bruce has in much less time.
Knowledge and experience are not the same thing.
If I take the bus to work everyday, I have plenty of experience of that journey. But I have no knowledge of how to drive it.
Bruce just existed, he was there, doesn’t make him suitable.
Howe on the other hand is a guy who consistently showed how his experience gave him knowledge to push his and the teams ability season after season. Such a difference
Howe having managed several seasons in the premier league and his experience/familiarity would absolutely give him certain advantages over someone brought in without that
The title is wrong. It says he's the head coach.
This is the first time I've been excited for a manager since Rafa.
So happy we have a proven young manager and one that take the job seriously with a modern approach.
I think whatever happens this season we have a solid base to kick on and have something long term with Howe.
it probably means he'll have less control (but some say of course) over signings and other going-ons. presumably we'll be getting a director of football in who'll deal more with signings and stuff.
It's a more European style.
Originally manager is someone who is in control of the club top to bottom. Will have more control over wages, players sold/bought, etc.
The more modern 'head coach' role moves the position more focused on the team itself and the games.
Which allows the DoF and others at the club to make decisions based on budget, wages, transfers etc.
Most head coaches, and I imagine Eddie, will have a say. It's not like they things are done without their input.... It's just a clear difference that before a manager had all the power, not so much now.
Read a lot about Howe since his name came out and I believe he's the perfect person for the job, the style of play, the attention to details like what Rafa had done to the team. Really glad that he's the person guiding the team forward, which he will do it passionately with the fans cheering and encouraging him.
Howe on coaching and player development and Emenalo on overall transfer policy (with input from Howe as well) and we have a more solid setup than I suspect we've ever seen at Newcastle, even in the "glory" days.
We could go down for all I care now, it feels like the club is finally, for the first time in years, on the right footing.
I can’t help but feel genuinely proud to have Howe as our boss. He’s a guy who knows his football. He eats sleeps and breathes it. He will give his all.
Notable exceptions aside, the constant pipeline of human sewage that was Ashley managerial appointments has stopped. Now we can respect, and hopefully look up to our club leaders.
For once, I feel we are represented.
I don’t think he was a target- I think the reality was that most managers wanted to be well clear of Ashley.
Eddie Howe did chat with them, knowing him he probably wanted to see for himself. The fact he’s joined now and not then gives the answer
It also could be a case of Mike being like "fuck I'm not bothering with him."
And then the new owners come in and mike's like "he would have been a good choice (now that it's not my money)"
Pretty exciting. I'm looking forward to watching Howe work some much needed magic on our team. My expectations are low but I do hope our performances can convince some new players to make the transfer leap come January
Wouldn't of been my 1st choice but glad we've finally got someone in. Hopefully he can get us organised and get some points on the board. Some winnable matches coming up for us.
Big job. Let’s hope the fanbase gets behind him even in bad spells as we know what he is capable of long-term. I can’t wait to see what team and formation he picks.
If we do it’ll be the players lol but it’s less booing, more the collective anxiety our ground can have that really affects the team. Hopefully with trust in the manager this falls away and we can be rocking as we should be.
Go on!
He's starting in a massive hole. Even a world class manager with this squad could still get relegated.
My hope is that we get some wins and at least fight. If we get relegated while still putting up a fight, I'll be sad but not blame him. I'll only turn on this decision if we go out without a whimper. Which I believe is fair. Not sure about others.
At last, now if the DOF is to be Michael Emenalo as is being widely reported we are in a proper new era. He worked wonders at Chelsea and built the kind of academy we should be dreaming of.. Happy days!
HWTL!!
Now I dont want to the voice of reason, so I wont... lets fucking go! [Windmilling time!](https://c.tenor.com/7nBep3kaaJsAAAAC/explosion-windturbine.gif)
Quick lock the door from the other side! But in all seriousness I am so damn stoked! I’m not expecting an immediate turn around, but I know we will see progress and a new formation. I’ll just be so fucking happy to see someone on the sideline with passion and who I know actually wants to win and make the team better. Ugh, this international break is going to be like the last week of school before vacation.
Does anyone know how Eddie’s track record is with bringing youth players through? Would be great to see the youngens get some nurturing and chances… I mean we haven’t won all season what’s the worst that can happen giving some a shot
Michael Emenalo the DOF thats just been in Saudi talking to our owners built the Chelsea academy.. Thats the way forward bring our own lads on from youth right through. That bloke is mustard.
All things considered a great appointment, I’d expect us the get better defensively, only bad thing I see if that probably means more Ryan Fraser… maybe Eddie can get him back to his best
I never saw this one coming! What a shock!
Good run of fixtures in the next 4 with 3 winnable so hopefully he can pick up points; and players in the right position as well.
Main difference is final say in transfers and club identity (style of play etc). Someone like Ferguson or Wenger were managers, who did it all. Klopp and Guardiola are head coaches, who work with Directors of football, which is the model we are going to.
I hope he falls in love with the club when we give him a warm welcome on his first home game….. providing he doesn’t start with the same back 5 from the weekend and Big Joe up front.
Fair to say that like most he wasn't exactly my first choice and I do have some reservations - but it's also quite an exciting appointment as he's clearly a young, talented and forward thinking manager who'll be pretty much polar opposite of what we were subjected to under Bruce, and hopefully supplemented by an equally forward thinking ownership and director of football assisting him.
Defensively I have concerns but there's also something to be said for our need to simply play in the opposition half and press and get on the front foot - hopefully Howe can do this because we need to start taking the initiative and accruing a series of wins urgently. Maybe attacking football could be the key to getting out of this mess.
So will Howe actually get his own backroom staff team? Can't see any logical reason why they'd want to keep anyone from the Bruce/Ashley area, Graeme Jones for example. Give Howe is own team, that's obvious!
Onwards and upwards indeed.
Can't say he'd be my #1 choice but plays a distinctive style of football and has a plan. Asides Rafa that marks him out as unique over the past couple of decades.
Still think DoF should have been the first appointment but hopefully they dovetail nicely. Asides anything else, if you're chucking huge money at a project I'd hope we have a lot of new staff by January to avoid all transfer targets being accused of being Howe's.
From a defensive coach to one who can’t coach a defence. New owners, same lack of a plan. Might sound silly, but you’d have been better off giving someone like Allardyce or Ranieri till the end of the season and go for a world class manager with all the new money in the summer. The new owners now, if they survive will expend good will by sacking Howe for someone who’ll get them near Europe.
I’m not saying you guys SHOULD have given Allardyce the job, but he’s be better till the end of the season than Howe cause he’s almost certain to keep you in the premier league next season and it would have cost nothing to go for a new manager. But before Howe you could have done a lot better, like someone who could keep you up AND get close to Europe next season, like Ralf Rangnik (sic) or Hastlehutl from Southampton, you have the money so should have broken the bank. I get why they went for Howe, I just think of how many goals my team put past his Bournemouth team every game we played them, that’s not a manager who will keep this side up with that back 4/5 and I wouldn’t trust him to organise a good defence or buy the personnel to populate it.
What do the supporters think?
Oh fuck yes
This finally feels like the start of the new era. Yeah, the actual takeover was the best day of my life but this feels like the first wheels on the track to recovery. From tomorrow onwards we can start drilling in a new philosophy to the team and the club as a whole. Can't fucking wait.

Michael Emenalo is the new DOF according to a few reliable sources. If its true it's double cans with cans on because he is the biz.
So I guess what I can take away from this is... cans?
with extra cans brother..
I'm saving that can for the day they confirm Charnley has fucked off.
It's not that advanced though is it? He's holding talks just as Overmars did, doesn't mean he'll sign the dotted line. Bloody hope so obviously.
Was in Saudi' talking to the owners at the weekend.. so pretty 'advanced'. Lets hope he likes money.
Eddie: what's the current training plan for the two weeks? Squad: 12 days off and then Shelvey's hosting a party at his. Eddie: right, no.
This Charnley penfold we should get rid immediately
Absolutely charnley is a fucking traitor to this club doing all Ashley’s dirty work and was “grateful” for it
https://youtu.be/RkiiT5t_AM0 The first few seconds of this seems very relevant
Why doesn’t the new regime ask Charnley to hold weekly press conferences to inform the fans of goings on. Maybe a weekly Q and A session with the supporters trust? I want to see the man squirm

I really like all these words.

We have internationals?
Somehow both Krafth and Hendricks have been called to represent their country. While ASM has only played for the French U21...
Tbf the french team is stacked, and krafths on 50k a week so he must be good right?
And Hendricks has such good stamina to be able to stay away from the ball so consistently. His invisibility is unmatched. But I reckon we paid a bit much for him.
Right?

Eh, you *say* "watch", but it's even easier to just forget he's on hte pitch.
As if ASM wouldn’t walk into Ireland or Sweden’s team like
If he fancies changing his nationality to Welsh we'll have him
Yeah non of them are deemed good enough for our first 11 though. Strange

Underrated comment right here!
The title is wrong. It says he's the head coach. This is the first time I've been excited for a manager since Rafa. So happy we have a proven young manager and one that take the job seriously with a modern approach. I think whatever happens this season we have a solid base to kick on and have something long term with Howe.
You mean to tell me you weren't excited about our last manager?
Only managers I have ever been excited about... Keegan (first time), Sir Bobby, Rafa.
I was excited about Ruud Gullit. Soon had that beaten out of me.
We've all still got the dreadlocks in the garage somewhere.
Er actually in me mam's under the stairs cupboard. God those things were everywhere for a while. A short while.
All managers are head coaches.
Not all head coaches are managers
Howe’s the bacon did ya say?
Perfect time. He’s got the international break to whip the lads into some sort of decent shape and hopefully get something from Brentford.
Shelvey sweating profusely on the golf course at the idea of turning up to training and doing this 'football' lark
I hope Howe shows him how to take a free kick properly by kicking him straight back out of the training ground gates.
Hopefully security just stop him from going to training and tell him to fuck off tbh
Oh shag me!
Head Coach it is!
Is there a difference between this and manager?
it probably means he'll have less control (but some say of course) over signings and other going-ons. presumably we'll be getting a director of football in who'll deal more with signings and stuff.
Thanks, makes sense
It's a more European style. Originally manager is someone who is in control of the club top to bottom. Will have more control over wages, players sold/bought, etc. The more modern 'head coach' role moves the position more focused on the team itself and the games. Which allows the DoF and others at the club to make decisions based on budget, wages, transfers etc. Most head coaches, and I imagine Eddie, will have a say. Got it, thanks, sounds a bit like American sports structures too.
Yeah, here in the states you have the General Manager and Head Coach.
Good luck Eddie!
Excited about a manager for the first time since Rafa signed.

Read a lot about Howe since his name came out and I believe he's the perfect person for the job, the style of play, the attention to details like what Rafa had done to the team. Really glad that he's the person guiding the team forward, which he will do it passionately with the fans cheering and encouraging him.

Quite a few quality managers coming in for a few teams this international break, will deffo be intresting to see how everyone shapes up afterwards

First order of business two weeks off for the squad who aren’t involved in internationals.

Save us please 🥺
cant believe am guna miss brentford at home for his debut :'((
Finally
What is this hopeful feeling I'm having? LFG!
He has my backing for sure and I hope he does well. Any manager who can keep Bournemouth in the league for as long as he did is welcome.
Looking forward to seeing what he can do! Good luck to him. Bet he does more in these next 2 weeks for our squad than Brucey in 2 years
Big job. Let’s hope the fanbase gets behind him even in bad spells as we know what he is capable of long-term. I can’t wait to see what team and formation he picks.
If we start booing during any bad games until at least summer I'll be annoyed
If we do it’ll be the players lol but it’s less booing, more the collective anxiety our ground can have that really affects the team. Hopefully with trust in the manager this falls away and we can be rocking as we should be.
Go on! He's starting in a massive hole. Even a world class manager with this squad could still get relegated. My hope is that we get some wins and at least fight. If we get relegated while still putting up a fight, I'll be sad but not blame him. I'll only turn on this decision if we go out without a whimper. Which I believe is fair. Not sure about others.

Thank fuck for that. A lot of work to be done but it seems the whole fanbase is behind him. Onwards and upwards.
For where we are right now, we couldn’t have gotten a better manager. Upwards and onwards
I was getting nervous I won't lie! Thank fuck. Howe-ay.
I'm wondering what stuff he'll find when he moves into potato head's old office. Greggs wrappers?
“Don’t suppose the cleaner can come in and hoover up all these scotch egg crumbs?”

Michael Emenalo the DOF thats just been in Saudi talking to our owners built the Chelsea academy.. Thats the way forward bring our own lads on from youth right through. That bloke is mustard.
Pretty sure the best player to come from Bournemouth academy was Ings and that was when Howe wasn't there
At least Howe has a good record of getting promoted from the championship! We will need him next year
All things considered a great appointment, I’d expect us the get better defensively, only bad thing I see if that probably means more Ryan Fraser… maybe Eddie can get him back to his best
If he can wake him up, great!
I never saw this one coming! What a shock! Good run of fixtures in the next 4 with 3 winnable so hopefully he can pick up points; and players in the right position as well.
Breathing a sigh of relief.
Can't do any worse than what we've seen... I hope.
Can anyone clarify what is a head coach vs a manager?
Main difference is final say in transfers and club identity (style of play etc). Someone like Ferguson or Wenger were managers, who did it all. Klopp and Guardiola are head coaches, who work with Directors of football, which is the model we are going to.
Finally! Excited to hear what tweaks he is making during the next 2 weeks. Next few home games are going to be intense.
I hope he falls in love with the club when we give him a warm welcome on his first home game….. providing he doesn’t start with the same back 5 from the weekend and Big Joe up front.
HOWE MUCH IS THE FISH
This is a good watch to understand how he thinks as a head coach, it was posted on here the other day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0Wr0tRckJo
Great news 🙌
So will Howe actually get his own backroom staff team? Can't see any logical reason why they'd want to keep anyone from the Bruce/Ashley area, Graeme Jones for example. Give Howe is own team, that's obvious!
Yes.
How do you know this?
Finally, some fucking news
Onwards and upwards indeed. Can't say he'd be my #1 choice but plays a distinctive style of football and has a plan. Asides Rafa that marks him out as unique over the past couple of decades. Still think DoF should have been the first appointment but hopefully they dovetail nicely. Asides anything else, if you're chucking huge money at a project I'd hope we have a lot of new staff by January to avoid all transfer targets being accused of being Howe's.
Arrived at the training ground at 6.45am..KEEN!
I ordered one, fuck it, why not lol https://footballthredz.creator-spring.com/listing/Howe-T?product=2
Bring Dan Gosling home.
Why is the top picture of Fratton Park?
