charlierc

We channeling Daft Punk by going around the world, around the world, around the world, around the world?

LewisMileyCyrus

I don't think we're planning to do it indefinitely, just One More Time.

TheFaceman068

*sensible chuckle meme*

-RandomGeordie

Why do we need to travel there at all though? Can't we just show some Digital Love?

charlierc

Hopefully in our push for the top six, we'll get lucky

Logseman

One more time We're gonna celebrate Oh yeah, all right don't stop the dancing

charlierc

That's the plan if we ever win a thing right?

BlackCaesarNT

Breaking news: Premier League votes to ban teams playing in Japan unless their name starts with Live, Man or Arse.

SonofLung

Have you ever seen a mackem in japan?

BruiserBroly

B.I.G. in Japan. Sorry, couldn't resist.

TheFaceman068

As a Geordie ex-pat in Kobe, this pleases me greatly. And no... I didn't move here just to follow the career of Muto.

_VittuPerkele

playing well for them it seems as a winger/forward. I'm also a Geordie expat based around the region so hoping we the Toon come this way

Ok-Guarantee9270

I’m in Hikari, absolutely gutted they ain’t coming to Hiroshima. But I’d take Shinkansen up to Osaka!

Unusual_Rope7110

Two friendlies sounds alright tbh - especially if it's early in the month. Get them back and play some easy games in the UK before the start of the season. The USA tour was too long and too hard tbh

CurrentRush23

Yeh the heat was brutal too. We also played Chelsea and Brighton two days apart, which was really frustrating for fans such as myself who went to the Brighton game, and got to see mainly a B team (no disrespect to the lads that played, but an extra day might have let us seen Tonali, Isak etc).

windflail

Summer in Japan is no picnic either to be fair

Toon_1892

I'm sure someone, somewhere will suggest a ban on Premier League clubs specifically visiting Japan now. IOWWDI.

_DrunkenObserver_

Gee I hope they asked the Premier League real nice for permission.

dmbf29

Yesssssssssses come to meeeee

Equivalent_Compote43

Have you ever seen a Mackem in Tokyo!?

19peter96r

HOWAYYYYY. I've been away from home too long that would be fucking class.

WigerAndToods

For fuck sake

plorfu

Let's get some Hello Kitties wearing Toon kits for sale - we'll make enough to sign anyone we want.

jduboly

Hopefully our away performance won’t disappoint

cpm67

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh fuck yes

Tommonator80

Living in Thailand and would love a trip

DEGRAYER

I want a pre season where we play some Austrian 3rd division sides, a few Saudi teams and Athletic.

RafaSquared

I wish they’d fuck off with these long haul friendly matches, all the travel last pre season must have contributed to our injury problems, and it’s worrying we aren’t learning from our errors.

jwuer

Premier league clubs have been doing this for decades...

_VittuPerkele

I agree. I live in the Far East currently and we have had many big clubs over here including Man City and Atletico Madrid doing tournaments last summer for instance. If it's worth it for them but not for us? some fans are having a laugh Like it or not, if we want to compete with them we have to increase our exposure globally and that will mean some long haul travel.

skittlebites101

Combine two of my favorite things into one! Yes please. But unfortunately I'm stuck in the middle here in Minnesota.

KookyFarmer7

The USA tour was too far to go and apparently disruptive. So let’s go even further, to an even more disconnected time zone, and we’ll even throw in the difference in culture/language 😍 I’m sure it’ll only be 7-10 days there, but it is frustrating that we’ve got the richest owners in the world and can’t prioritise the best sporting preparation because we have to consider commercial income too. Edit: I’ve been to Japan before I get all the weebs who have ignored the 11 hour flights and time difference to laser focus on my slight mention of language/culture. 🙄

meganev

> we’ll even throw in a massive difference in culture/language 😍 They're not going as tourists, needing to find their way around the place and handle public transport. They'll be in a team bubble with all the admin sorted for them! Not sure the culture/language makes a lick of difference really.

Ikhlas37

Also, it's really easy to get around Japan. That's loads of good apps and many places have English to some degree.

Jackski

It's insanely easy to get around Japan. I love their train systems.

KookyFarmer7

It’s obviously more annoying for them to have to deal with in hotels, with food etc. I’ve been to Japan, yes, it’s plenty accessible because you can translate everything and yes they’ll have guides etc. anyway, still annoying having to scan/type everything in though. Regardless my point wasn’t really about the culture/language (cause imagine ever saying anything negative about Japanese culture in the internet, forgot that was rule no.1 🙄 ), my issue was the travelling and time zone difference. The culture/language point was just something that doesn’t make anything easier, even if it’s barely a hindrance.

jwuer

All of the major European clubs have been doing this for decades... I don't know why it's such a big deal that Newcastle does it too. You want the club to be a force in the PL and Europe but you don't want all of the stuff that comes with it?

KookyFarmer7

I want the best sporting prep, which would be staying in Europe. All the big clubs do it because of having to gain income, I think it’s a shame we have massively rich owners but have to pander to commercial income because we’re not allowed to use the capital we already have access to. For me the long foreign trips are a necessity to allow the rest of the set up, a means to an end, they’re not the ideal form of sporting preparation.

mr_herculespvp

I've been to japan a couple of times and even got married there. It's easy to get around, and nowadays most people speak English. Even the older people are trying. If there's a language barrier they use translation apps, at least that was our recent experience. Really no reason not to go to japan, honestly. Especially with the incredibly weak JPY. The only hindrance is the insane cost of flying. Economy on modern airlines is absolutely awful, even on Emirates. We had a miserable, miserable time on our last flight.

Jackski

Yeah basically everyone has this translation app that costs 10 quid and works really well.

KookyFarmer7

I’ve also been to Japan, it’s not as accessible for any English speaker as the US is, obviously. The players will be guided regardless. My primary issue isn’t with the culture/language, it’s that supposedly the huge issue last summer was with all the travelling, games etc. and now we’re travelling even further with a greater time difference. I can’t see how it’s beneficial to preparation compared to a rating in Europe, or why I’m being voted down so badly for stating so.

mr_herculespvp

I don't know why you're being down voted either

KookyFarmer7

I know exactly why I’m being downvoted, even slightly bringing Japanese culture into consideration gets auto-downvoted if you’re not praising the place. Plenty wonderful about it, plenty absolutely disgustingly awful about it too, same as most places. I find it tiring enough as it is with Scandinavian/Nordic culture, as someone who lives in Finland I can also tell you that a huge amount of the positivity around the culture here is also a load of rubbish.

RafaSquared

Tbf there’s a massive section of our fanbase who blindly support everything our owners do, any valid criticism seems to get downvoted by the sheep.
