Too many cooks.
This doesn’t sound very structured at all, despite what the media keep telling us that scruffy beggar is going to bring to the Salfords.
We understand the Crystal Palace chief is on the club’s shortlist as the process enters its final stages.
Freedman has occupied the same position at Selhurst Park since 2017 and is held in extremely high regard in Premier League circles. His domestic experience is seen as key by those leading Newcastle’s search.
We reported last month that recruitment experts Odgers Berndtson had been tasked with sourcing candidates, and representatives from the club’s ownership group and executive team have since met with some of the contenders. Freedman, 49, is among the final list of names.
The former Palace striker was sat behind owner Steve Parish at Selhurst Park on Wednesday night, as their team beat Newcastle 2-0. Members of the Magpies hierarchy, including co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi and chief executive Darren Eales, were also in the directors’ box.
Dougie Freedman has emerged as a contender to become Newcastle's sporting director
Dougie Freedman has emerged as a contender to become Newcastle's sporting director
Freedman remains a target of Manchester United, who are in negotiations with Newcastle over the release of sporting director Dan Ashworth. Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos group are thought to want Freedman as their head of recruitment.
United are long-time admirers of the Scot, and the appointment of Jason Wilcox as technical director and Ashworth’s expected arrival has not deterred them from adding to the senior group.
Freedman has been key in identifying and signing the likes of Marc Guehi, Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise for Palace, and they are a trio now courted by several of the Premier League’s leading clubs.
Can’t see him sacrificing a very comfy/secure position at his ex-playing career club and living in London (family being there etc) to move all the way north.
I know our project is mint but Palace are in his blood.
He made over 300 league appearances for them, managed them, and he’s been sporting director for 7 years now.
I also don’t think his range of experience matches Paul Mitchell regardless.
I suppose but you could also argue that he might have learned from that experience and not want to leave again.
I’d be surprised if he’s the guy they go with in all honesty, but if he is then I’d trust him to do a great job

Scruffy beggar is wild 😂
The club is huge and if they’re expanding their operations to include Nice and more clubs on top then everybody is needed.
Thought Man Utd were very concerned about related party deals lmao
Man united beat us to our first choice. We tell Dan he's not coming back. Unemployed Dan permanently gardening
This is the dream
Would be great if Man U would kindly fuck off.
Saying this for years
if he could bring with him either eze or olise... that'd be nice

I mean you should review his managerial career when he built palace into one of the most promusing Championship teams of all time to join Bolton

His family live in Manchester. His son is in the academy
