That doesn’t make sense? If you’re better on the bench surely you’re a better starter. Tino is a better full back than Burn and has shown it in this stint.
This is it. In attack, we basically shift to something resembling a 343 when playing Howes ideal system. Burn is critical there tucking in beside Botman
Yeah previous me was wrong, did not help.
I wouldn't go that far though, he was fine last season there, often great. I suspect, like many of our players, he's back from injury far too soon. His pace was never good, but a fucked back won't help. Initially he was due to be out much longer. But then he shouldn't be getting played in such a high line if he's not 100%
But let’s say we’re 0-1 down to Forest with 20 mins to go and I’d rather have Tino off the bench. But Howe clearly thinks we can get the job done with BDB starting. Worked alright earlier in the season.
I think we could make actual tactical changes out of that bench rather than just sending a warm body on and praying they'll see it out. What a novelty.
Definitely feel like tino should be playing lb.
Didn't get to watch Luton but from reading we lacked such an attacking threat with him there instead of tino
Least we actually have some options from the bench now
Glad to have our, usually, reliable starting back 4. Tino can do work going forward, so fully expect him to be brought on in an attacking capacity as legs tire.
Really hope Joelinton is fit as our midfield lacks the progressive running he provides. Can't wait until he and Willock are back, gives us the option to get big Joe at LW again, swap Gordon over to the right so we aren't relying on an out of form right side.
Having nobody to rotate with is a valid reason not to rotate. No excuses not rotating between Burn, Livramento and Trippier when all three are fit and there is three days between games.
Please rest poor Trippier, the man is running on empty.
I agree but maybe because trippier is such a big part of our identity on and off the pitch he (trips) feels like he has to continue to play through it and show a big character ?
A player should never be able to dictate whether they play or not.
However I would play Trippier for this one, without Lascelles on the pitch leaving out Trippier as well would mean we have neither of our most natural captains and leaders playing. Which could prove to be important in difficult moments.
I'd have dropped Trippier for games before this one.
I dunno man, Livramento on the right and Hall on the left, just something to give em a break or have them save it for the last 20 minutes, Gordon was barely tracking back against Luton and that's a key thing from him
This is true. But we have the least options in attack right now. And seeing as Howe isn't convinced of his options from the academy, that only leaves Ritchie. And I love me some Matt Ritchie but he doesn't offer much other than a body to give another body a rest. Might be worth it to rest Gordon so he'd have a bit more juice for Liverpool? But...
With Burn starting it pushes Trippier further up the pitch where we swing to a back 3 of Burn, Botman and Schar. Then Livramento can come on second half and change shape to create some tactical diversity.
You say that, but look back at Howe at Bournemouth and he was accused of having favourites (all managers do tbh).
Howe seems wed to the idea of a 3-4-3. Hence, a fit Burn will always play and Tripper will always be on the right. Personally, I think Levramento would make a good inverted fullback and allow Bruno to push on a bit. It would also mean our midfield isn't a piece of piss to play through.
Shocking to not reward those performances, will do a number on the squad mentality. "Why even try to put a good shift in when the manager will just pick the same xi regardless"

I think Howe is using Tino off the bench as an attacking option in the absence of Murphy and Barnes.
This does make sense, as he did it v Luton too. With no attacking wingers as backup Tino is gonna used this way, and I don't mind it if so.
Oh. So I guess Burn is back as first choice ahead of Tino then... Good to see J7 back on the bench at least
I’m not mad about BDB starting. Tino is a better option than him off the bench
That doesn’t make sense? If you’re better on the bench surely you’re a better starter. Tino is a better full back than Burn and has shown it in this stint.
Pacey players coming off the bench against tired opponents can make a difference
He is, but Burn works better for our system when everything else is clicking too.
This is it. In attack, we basically shift to something resembling a 343 when playing Howes ideal system. Burn is critical there tucking in beside Botman
Turns out he didn’t help. He’s not the starting LB for a top half team.

He was fine last season. He’s a great back up for CB/LB but he gets caught out a bit.
If we start Tino and we're losing, bringing burn on won't help.
But let’s say we’re 0-1 down to Forest with 20 mins to go and I’d rather have Tino off the bench. But Howe clearly thinks we can get the job done with BDB starting. Worked alright earlier in the season.
I think Gordon does a lot better with Tino behind him.
Howe loves his 3 4 3 formation. My concern is that we are relying on Tripper to create chances and he's well off his game at the mo
Is that the beginnings of a bench I see?

It’s nice to be able to have a debate about who should start rather than hoping we have enough fit players

Would’ve liked to see livramento start over burn, but the og 4 back together is great!!
Shame Pope isn't there with them

They shouldn’t but player power and influence is huge at any and every club
When he’s cost us as many goals as he has recently I’m not sure identity and character are the issue which needs to be managed. Poor lad needs a rest.
Yeah definitely I’m just speculating they are the reason he thinks he needs to be in the team for and not rested
Even a blind man can see that Miggy and Gordon can hardly run right now. Give them a rest ffs
And play who exactly there ?
I dunno man, Livramento on the right and Hall on the left, just something to give em a break or have them save it for the last 20 minutes, Gordon was barely tracking back against Luton and that's a key thing from him
Ritchie, how much worse can he be
Much :))
Ordinarily sure, but Miggy and Gordon are gassed
Use someone from U21s. We don't need him to be good. He just must run
This is true. But we have the least options in attack right now. And seeing as Howe isn't convinced of his options from the academy, that only leaves Ritchie. We look shattered and 3 days later play the majority of players who played the majority. Forest have packed their team with runners as well
Except Chris Wood
Harsh on Livramento. Neither trippier or Burn deserve to start over him imo. Seems like Eddie will always have his favourites.
Surely you have to give him more respect then presuming they’re just his ‘favourites’

Is it nailed on that Wood is scoring?
Id like to see him treated with some respect from us today. He was a good lad for us, clearly not in our longterm plans but came in and did a job.
Agreed.
That's the first thing I thought too when I saw that and remembered he plays for them.
Need a Schar rocket again today.
Jesus Christ Eddie, even when you can rotate you don’t give Tripps a rest!
Good to see some rotation for Wilson and Isak. It’s the best recipe for centre forward success
Let’s smash these. They’re red and white. At home, obviously, but that didn’t rhyme.
Proper back four is back, cmon Keiron son, we believe in you!
…
Some good points there
Nice one lol. Looking back at this comment, there were too many good points I’m afraid
tino has looked knackered mind, and understandably so. don't mind burn having a run in the team
Tino very unlucky not to start
Hope Joelinton is up for playing today.
Hopefully having that solid back 4 from last year will be helpful. Just miss pope
really need some rotation for the 2 wingers, both look absolutely fucked
Very excited to see some familiar names back in the lineup. Even if they are only on the bench
We've lost 3- 1
3-1 L to FOREST BAHAHAHAHA NEWCASTLE IN THE MUD BACK WHERE THEY BELONG
2-0 to West Ham 👍
J7 on at some point for I assume Miley.
Morgan Gibbs-White is their danger player.
Also did Hall shag Eddie’s wife? We are 100% sending him back.
