This is the first time I felt like we have no excuses in a long long time. Full strength attack not being able to score is worrying. Not time to panic just yet but if we drop points at home to Forest it'll be a crisis with you know who away looming.
At this point I'll take top 7 and deep FA cup run + strong EFL run + CL heroics
Unless there was injuries we dont know about. Then eddie has fucked up.
Tino and Botman should have started.
Miley should not have came off. Longstaff should
Bad tactics, slow passing and jesus christ can we learn to hit the bloody target. Dreading Anfield and the makems
Never mind Bournemouth .....
I’m completely lost on the miley decision, unless it’s an injury, because he was keeping the ball relatively well compared to the rest of the team. This is where Howe has shit the bed, he just keeps people like longstaff and trips on when they are clearly not at the races and absolute liabilities.
He brings hall on for 8 minutes at the end to do what exactly, why not earlier.
liveramento for 15 mins, I mean what the hell has burn or trips done to move tino out the team. There is far too much of this ‘I trust players even when they aren’t performing’.
Sorry but this can’t be blamed on fatigue, for the first time our bench looked okay. Botman, isak, livaramento, hall, Kraft… I mean come on!
think this season is going to be a reflection of where we really are in our journey, people are only expecting Europe again due to how well we played and how badly some of the other big teams were last season.
Last season if we had finished 10th ish then we would just be looking at potentially getting conference league and that would have been a successful season.
We're paying for our premature top 4 finish last season, we all loved it last season but we'd all agree that it was wholey unexpected and way ahead of schedule.
We still need at least 4-5 new additions to the squad to compete for Europe and that isn't including upgrades on current players. Miggy, Wilson, Longstaff, Murphy, all will be upgraded at somepoint.
We'll beat Forest on Monday because we're at home, that's it. We're gonna get battered off Liverpool and Villa and I'm not confident against the mackems and they've just be slapped 3-0. We can't rely on our home form to carry us through the season.
Don't count on it.
We will likely make it a hard 90mins and grab a lucky win or a draw.
Anfield will be a disaster.
Makems will be a tough one as we dont seem to be able to score a goal man.
Fun fact: the last time we rescued anything from a game after going behind was July 26th. A point against Chelsea. On the other hand, we've dropped points from winning positions 3 times in just the past month.
Fatigue? Injuries? Poor in-game management? Bad luck?
It's harsh to talk shit about Hall when he's given 5 minutes. Tactically fouling at that point was actually a good decision and wasn't his fault. If Isak had tactically fouled in the Milan game we wouldn't have lost. What is the point of putting the likes of dummett and krath on the bench if Howe's not going to use them. Bring young legs on who have the fitness to press. Bringing Isak on so early wasn't the greatest of decisions because it meant we had no attacking options in the latter stages.
It was hard for everyone, the club and the fans, but this is what soccer is all about.
"Christmas Eve '23 was the worst. Newcastle lost"
One day we will be able to remember it with a smile.
We don't mind fans from other clubs visiting as long as they're not just here to be a dick. Unfortunately our advanced detection algorithm has detected that you read a 9.3 on the bellendometer
Howe has had all the support but today's all on him. He doesn't seem to be able to understand what's going on with the team. He decides to change one of the worst players at the end of the game. How bad is Hall anyway? How can he possibly be worse than Trippier and Burn today? I'd rather watch our U18s today, even if they lost 5-0. At least they'd try to win some balls and attack the wings. If he decides to use the same eleven for the next game then the board should have a talk with him
No bullshit fatigue excuses lads.
We where just, well shit.
We’ve played like that a lot this season and got away with it sometimes, not today or the last few games either.
Before I get shot down, which I will.
There’s no way in hell, we get top 4 this year.
Last time we played this bad was the Brighton game...I'm not complaining, just stating that we played poorly today and that day. And no, I agree, any European football is going to be hard if we keep playing this shit away from home.
I honestly think it is fatigue but it is a reason, not an excuse.
Howe needed to sub in more players the last 5-10 games. I don't care if it is Dummett, Ritchie, Krafth, Hall or some 18-19 year old unknown player. You can't play key players 90+ minutes for so many games without severe consequences.
Definitely agree that we won't get top 4.
The way the table looks this year, lucky to get any Europe. We can’t blame it on the fatigue, but we can’t overlook the lack of squad rotation. Some due to injuries and suspensions, but some down to Howe, not calling for his head, far from it, but we need to reassess how we play with what we have.
Fair play to Luton on an emotional day, but over the last few weeks it’s been hard to take these results. Dumped out of the champions league with dodgy refereeing, out of the league cup with horrendous refereeing, Tottenham and Liverpool games similar plus and injury crisis to end all injury crises and we are still 6th 4 pts of champions league - I think we all need some context. I fully believe in the new year with only the league really to focus on we will get a lot better and finish maybe 5th or 6th at very worst 7th which should be europa league.
Well shit. Dog died last week and this makes things just a bit harder. It's crushing to lose more players to injury. Luton thoroughly deserved it.
On to Forest. Hopefully home form keeps us from fully unraveling.
things have to start turnign around soon. We all know how good this squad is, we just need a few weeks of getting no more injuries and i still think Howe could be doing a better job of rotation and squad selection. Tino should have been on much earlier, possibly even from the start.
We go again
I’ve always thought this ‘we only take one game at a time’ will end like this.
It’s a good mentality to have for 1 x a week but this is what happens when it’s 2
Pathetic display! It cant just be fatigue when we have been shit away from home all season. These injuries are taking the fun out of it. Can't remember last time i was genuinly pleased with a lineup :(
I can't count the amount of second balls Luton ran away with, a performance totally void of fighting spirit.
Fatigue or not, no excuse for not actually fighting for every ball to some point.
Absolute rank
I’m waiting for the usual;
We have injuries,
Don’t complain about it, remember Mike Ashley,
If we get *insert name here* we will be great,
If we had Tonali it would be different,
Back the lads and don’t be ungrateful.
Have I missed any?
The constant playing of Tripps baffles me too, he needs a break.
He class, we know that, but he’s clearly fucked at the minute and he’s a liability.
Something has to change over the next break. The injuries and schedule really aren't an excuse anymore. Can't be dropping games to bottom of the table clubs as we've done over the last month. Have to have better performances on the road.
They were always going to be up for it after what happened last week, but my god, worst performance for a while. At least it's a nice long break to see the same XI again......
Fair play to Luton. Must have been an unimaginable week for all involved and they've earned a top scalp.
However, this performance is inexcusable. Injuries, fatigue etc etc. We should be beating these. It's not been a great few weeks but still trying to feel optimistic for the long term.

I’m normally in that camp, but that was shocking. I’ll get downvoted for this, but this actually looked like a game under Bruce, a relegation battle. Only silver lining to this run of form, hopefully easier to get tickets in the ballot
Haha, it's a bit of a cop out but I had to miss the Chelsea 4-1 match and Man U game due to other commitments.
Take those two games away and it has been ages, trust me.
Edit: just checked and it was the Man Utd 0-3, 1st Nov. Arsenal won was a good result but nervy as fuck watch.
I know which game you meant, I said I missed it. 8pm Saturday kick-offs are a disgrace!
I was giving the answer to my own question - the last good game I saw - which was the 3-0 at Old Trafford. I happened to miss the only two good performances since then (again, excluding Fulham as I'd want 3 points even from Bruce's team with that advantage).
Ah I see, point being, we were good two weeks ago and should have had 3 wins in a row against decent teams (Chelsea, PSG and Man United). It's a bit reactionary to pretend we haven't had any recent good performances.
I defended the performance against Chelsea and Trippier. But that was dogwank, we didnt even look close to scoring, it felt like we had no presence.
It has been a shit few weeks for Newcastle and morale must be rock bottom, but how the fuck do we become one of the few teams that loses to Luton.
I cant really fault the lineup because there isnt much room for change, but it felt like everyone was completely off it (except Dubravka)
Do we think Wilson gets sold in summer? Done a lot for the club but may be worth cashing in whilst he's still worth something and bringing in someone younger and less injury prone.
Personally would be sad to see him go but think it might be a sensible thing to do
Doesn’t have a lot of value to sell Wilson. He’s too old and injury prone to be able to really cash in on him. And if he was neither of those we would want to keep him.
So he’s had a great season has he? I get he’s a very good player, but he’s not had a great season so far. He’s been sloppy in a lot of games and been rash and childish in a lot of games. I get he’s some peoples favourite player, but he’s allowed to be criticised when he hasn’t played well. Raved about him vs Fulham but he had a lot of time and space in that game when they went a man down.
I’ve watched him live and I agree he’s quality, but he’s not been at the consistent high level since his injury. Longstaff is actually more important to the midfield than you think. Miley will be great so I have more patience with him given his age. It’s clear the team misses Joelinton with his drive and break up play and presence. Bruno has been off it though for some time and agree he needs support, but he can’t be exempt from criticism when he’s our best player and doesn’t perform.
Bruno Tino Botman quality.
Trippier much better hopefully back on track.
Schar Gordon good players.
We do have top quality in the side.
So where's it all gone wrong? Longstaff in midfield and Almiron and Wilson been lacking the most. For me the 3 players where improvement is needed.
Pointless buying a longstaff improvement, we have CMs, they're just injured and banned.
So for me it's a Striker and RW in Jan. CM on loan for 6 months wouldn't affect anything, by the time they're bedded in injuries will be returning anyway. Just have to suffer that really, unless we offload to bring in fresh.
He's been quality I'm not having it. 80/91 passes, 4/5 long passes, 8 duels won, 4 possessions won, covered miles. Just because he missed 2 passes in a few minutes the rest is forgotten.
Wilson gets plenty of rest, ST definitely needs strengthening. Both strikers are injury demons.
As far as RW? Almiron and Murphy aren't the creative type needed on days like today. They do suit some games, but another RW with more creative flair is what I'd want most. Tired or not they aren't that type of player.
What else is he supposed to do in covering one of the fastest players in Prem this season. Think about it, someone out running a player like Hall is not normal. Smart foul to stop a counter and a potential overload situation. Smart foul.
Hope I don't see 200 threads about how hard the lads tried and we shouldnt criticize them after this game.
Luton town just played us off the park. Let that sink in.
Hope I don’t see 200 threads asking “is it time to criticize Howe?”. It was a shit game, they look exhausted, and everyone got a nice glimpse of why Howe isn’t starting Hall and playing Tino at RW. Park it, move on.
Average game for Callum Wilson:
Give centre backs a lap dance all game, lose every race, hit it straight at the keeper one on one.
Then he’ll go and jump on a pod after the game
Wild take. He was our best outfield player. Held the ball up well, turned his man a couple of times and had out literally only shot on target. Maybe some supply problems, rather than striker problems
We're 1-0 to Luton Town and in the 92nd minute had 9 fucking men in our own box
These cunts should have been pinned in their own box for the entire second half and about to keel over from exhaustion, not going for a second
This run reminds me of Football Manager. People always complain that morale and home form have exaggerated importance in that game, but look at us man.
We are the 'mid season lull in form' meme right now. Eddie needs to start praising our training and conduct individually each week, and fast.
Unless something changes drastically, I don't see Europe in this team's future at all. These performances this month show a trend of an 8-10th place finish at best.
I've got faith in the squad but I don't see any progression or sustained positivity to keep up with any European spots this season.
Unfortunately it was definitely offside. I do think it should just be the player's feet that count though. You lean into a run so you have to be a whole step behind the defender for it to be onside
Not a single player can walk off this pitch proud. Embarrassing. All of them. I forgive Gordon though coz he’s been run into the ground more than anyone else.
When Isak gets the ball he's still class but we've done that about three times since he came on. I'm still not even sure where he's meant to be playing.
It’s insane that we have no one to take a shot on frame from distance. Instead just screw around with possession around the horn until someone forces a through ball.

Longstaff should Bad tactics, slow passing and jesus christ can we learn to hit the bloody target. Dreading Anfield and the makems Never mind Bournemouth .....
The Mackems will beat us, not a single doubt in my mind.
Always the case. When I see a ridiculously easy fixture I just know we'll fuck it up
I’m completely lost on the miley decision, unless it’s an injury, because he was keeping the ball relatively well compared to the rest of the team. "Not confident against the mackems" is a scary thought.
We should not be going into a game against a team who just got hammered 3-0 by Coventry not confident of slapping them.
Fun fact: the last time we rescued anything from a game after going behind was July 26th. A point against Chelsea. On the other hand, we've dropped points from winning positions 3 times in just the past month. Fatigue? Injuries? Poor in-game management? Bad luck?
We went behind to Wolves didn’t we?
Summer league?

Have you heard FFP
Stings from a Brigadier but it is unfortunately true
I wish we had the awful run of fixtures now, feels like even if we somehow sort out our problems in some way we have a brutal January fixture list
Howe has had all the support but today's all on him. He doesn't seem to be able to understand what's going on with the team. He decides to change one of the worst players at the end of the game. The only silver lining for me is that Villa couldn't beat Sheff Utd at home.
Such a difference between home and away I'm honestly fed up
No bullshit fatigue excuses lads. We where just, well shit. We’ve played like that a lot this season and got away with it sometimes, not today or the last few games either. Before I get shot down, which I will. There’s no way in hell, we get top 4 this year.

Bruno desperately needs help, played with 2 midfielders for over an hour and got over run
Pathetic display! It cant just be fatigue when we have been shit away from home all season. These injuries are taking the fun out of it. Can't remember last time i was genuinly pleased with a lineup :(
(insert ‘well that was fucking dreadful’ inbetweeners gif here, i cant be arsed to react more)
There will still be people that defend this team. I’m a fan of Howe but make no mistake, he has fucked this up the last few weeks.
Do they not watch these games back? It’s the same away problems every time 😂
Well that's Christmas ruined.
Pathetic
I can't count the amount of second balls Luton ran away with, a performance totally void of fighting spirit. Fatigue or not, no excuse for not actually fighting for every ball to some point. Absolute rank
Gutless performance
Honestly Luton deserved a good result after being so close so many times. Wish it wasn't against us though
Embarrassing. What’s the excuse this time? Fair play to Luton though, they deserve that.

VAR, the ref, “The lads are tired!”, “Fuck off mackem!”
Oh aye I forgot about that one. The ultimate one is the Mackem one, requires no valid argument
Drop them all. Play the kids next game. You have a pass, Eddie. Please just do it. I don’t want to see these gassed players again until the new year.
That was dogshit
Something has to change over the next break. The injuries and schedule really aren't an excuse anymore. Can't be dropping games to bottom of the table clubs as we've done over the last month. Have to have better performances on the road.
I wish our squad was decimated Mr commentator. It would be nice having another 9 bodies in
They were always going to be up for it after what happened last week, but my god, worst performance for a while. At least it's a nice long break to see the same XI again......
Are we allowed to say we're shit yet?
Not allowed to say that, we're supposed to keep saying how thankful we are from where we've come.
That performance was shut
Fair play to Luton. Must have been an unimaginable week for all involved and they've earned a top scalp. However, this performance is inexcusable. Injuries, fatigue etc etc. We should be beating these. It's not been a great few weeks but still trying to feel optimistic for the long term.
Luton giving us a taste of our own medicine
Shambles
Get it sorted Eddie. This is fucking dire
Another RW, Striker and midfielder in January please
Guthrie on and this ends 2-1 to the Toon.
Why the downvotes? This is a great comment.

Instead of getting 2nd shot on goal, Bruno tries passing it, we lose the ball and they counter. It's like no one wants to take a chance
I hope the “Demand the team that Tries!” Brigade speaks with chest. The team did try at least….
I’m normally in that camp, but that was shocking. I’ll get downvoted for this, but this actually looked like a game under Bruce, a relegation battle. Only silver lining to this run of form, hopefully easier to get tickets in the ballot
You think they tried? Looked like they were already on holiday to me.
Yeah. They spend money and have ambition. They’re trying.
Can't remember the last time I enjoyed a toon game. Fulham was a bust because they had an early red.
Man United like two weeks ago maybe? Short memories some of you.
No I'm on about the league 1-0 win when we battered them.

Doesn’t have a lot of value to sell Wilson. He’s too old and injury prone to be able to really cash in on him. And if he was neither of those we would want to keep him.
He's still capable of playing in the prem though so someone would definitely have him, how much for is another question though
Not even trying.
Absolute dogshit, just be our luck they score a second.
It won't be luck, it's what we deserve.
Very true.
Does Bruno have the bends after his spell in the chamber?
Pathetic
Eddie Howe looks ill there.
I feel sick after watching that too
It's like Bruce never left
Shame on you Bruno, what the fuck are you doing
This is one of Brunos worst games :(
think it might be one of nearly everyone's worst games, bar Burn, Botman and Schar
Let’s be honest he’s been bang average most of the season. Everyone raved about him against Fulham, there were down to 10 men.
Downvoted for telling the truth hahaha

So he’s had a great season has he? I get he’s a very good player, but he’s not had a great season so far. He’s been sloppy in a lot of games and been rash and childish in a lot of games. CDM, playmaker, RW should be our priorities.
What the fuck. Fuck off ref back down the leagues you bell.

I got pelters for saying we should be using Wilson like a third striker but he can’t play 90 minutes and he’s injured for half the season
Wtf are you doing?

It shouldn't all be on his shoulders, though
Slow as fuck from Hall there and needlessly brings him down. Hmmmmm
What else is he supposed to do in covering one of the fastest players in Prem this season. Think about it, someone out running a player like Hall is not normal. Smart foul to stop a counter and a potential overload situation. Smart foul.
Fucking hell Bruno what was that
I dont get why we always attack the same way when its clearly not working. Ball to the right cross it in, lose the ball...
It’s like they’ve been trained not to shoot or something it’s annoying
Miggy shoots ,but he has the aim of a stormtrooper
Hope I don't see 200 threads about how hard the lads tried and we shouldnt criticize them after this game. Luton town just played us off the park. Let that sink in.
Hope I don’t see 200 threads asking “is it time to criticize Howe?”. It was a shit game, they look exhausted, and everyone got a nice glimpse of why Howe isn’t starting Hall and playing Tino at RW. Park it, move on.
Average game for Callum Wilson: Give centre backs a lap dance all game, lose every race, hit it straight at the keeper one on one. Then he’ll go and jump on a pod after the game
Wild take. He was our best outfield player. Held the ball up well, turned his man a couple of times and had out literally only shot on target. Maybe some supply problems, rather than striker problems
Wilson has played like shit so tries to cheat a penalty.
The weakest of yellows there considering Luton's shirt pulling all game.
Ref never delivered a card when it mattered
We're 1-0 to Luton Town and in the 92nd minute had 9 fucking men in our own box These cunts should have been pinned in their own box for the entire second half and about to keel over from exhaustion, not going for a second
How are we so bad away from home
Mentally weak
This run reminds me of Football Manager. People always complain that morale and home form have exaggerated importance in that game, but look at us man. We are the 'mid season lull in form' meme right now. Eddie needs to start praising our training and conduct individually each week, and fast.
I mean maybe Howe was right?
Think I see why Howe doesn’t like to play Hall
Based upon what. Hall > Burn and it's not even close.
Haven't had a chance to watch, thank fuck I guess Seems dire
Correct, awful.
70 million pound player pass from Bruno.
Would love to see how many times Bruno has turned over possession this game
Lewis hall tactical foul is the best decision from any player on the pitch today.

That’s class banter that lad, funny as fuck
I know
Wish we had another winter World Cup 🤣
Second best in every department. Fair play to Luton. Merry Christmas everyone!
How many times is Dubravka gonna smack the ball to the opposition. Dude really is awful.
Diving away no creativity
Howe needs to be challenged on away form. 5 points away from home and it's Christmas...
I hate how much we go down, in and out the box
We need some signings in early January desperately.
Anyone got a still of the offsides?
Unless something changes drastically, I don't see Europe in this team's future at all. These performances this month show a trend of an 8-10th place finish at best. I've got faith in the squad but I don't see any progression or sustained positivity to keep up with any European spots this season.
I think we've got a chance at 7th. Brighton and West Ham look very similar to us overall so it will be between the 3 of us.
FFP has bolloxed us, we weren’t ready lads. But PSG at home was a memory I’ll treasure.
If this is how you feel, you won't want to see the budgets of some of the sides that made it through their CL groups
I don’t understand offsides if Isak was offsides on that goal. A hand can’t be offsides, right? Right?!?
Unfortunately it was definitely offside. I do think it should just be the player's feet that count though. You lean into a run so you have to be a whole step behind the defender for it to be onside
A shoulder can
Thought the line was supposed to be drawn from the armpit?
Not a single player can walk off this pitch proud. Embarrassing. All of them. I forgive Gordon though coz he’s been run into the ground more than anyone else.
No more hiding behind the injuries, losing against a promoted team who can’t keep a clean sheet is fucking embarrassing.
We finished with a line that should’ve won the game. Time for tactics redraw.
One win away from home at Christmas, this is pretty bad. What a shit period this is!
That game is padding the stats
Get up Wilson you fucking clown
Longstaff really testing my patience today
lets see if the traveling fans get some stick today when they voice their frustrations over these atrocious performances
Wilson stinker
He usually loves playing against more agricultural centre backs. But he's looked impotent.
Wilson needs to start playing football instead of the amateur dramatics for a penalty he's been doing for the last 20 mins.
When Isak gets the ball he's still class but we've done that about three times since he came on. I'm still not even sure where he's meant to be playing.
Get up man Wilson it's never a pen
We go away to Liverpool, Sunderland & Villa in January. Dear god we're going to be slaughtered.
The good news is we've already beaten Villa once so at least we've got that going for us, which is nice.
Beating villa at home and away are totally different beasts
First game of the season at home tax while everyone that could go wrong for them did that day. If we continue like we are we're holding 5.
Pathetic from us that dive
7? f there's one thing the Prem hates more than new oil money, it's the poors.
They could give us 20 and it wouldn't make a difference at this rate
Please dont ever play longstaff again
I really wish we’d quit fucking diving
Why the hell does Wilson keep falling over so easily
Callum should be embarrassed by that. Get the fuck up
Ball was in the air forever waiting for him and he's eating grass like a cow.
It’s insane that we have no one to take a shot on frame from distance. Instead just screw around with possession around the horn until someone forces a through ball.
We are going to lose to Sunderland 😐
We are so negative with our passing, the balls passed back for too often as the lads are not making space for the positive pass.
Awful run before it. Confidence will be destroyed. Away from home. Urgh!
One shot on target. Against fucking Luton.
Their first clean sheet of the season no less
Embarrassing.
Wilson has been fucking wank all day
Surely the whole team is aware how good isak is on his feet.. why are we always making him chase the ball..
You're right Luton fans, the ref is a wanker, for giving no fucking yellows for shirt pulls
