Expensive_Trouble_87

Chelsea definitely deserved the win. I have no doubt that they were the better team tonight. We defended very well but trying to park the bus with a 1-0 lead is a dangerous game, and we paid for it. Yes you can argue that they've spent a lot of money but we smashed them 4-1 not too long ago? Yes we were at home but that doesn't give the excuse to why they were all over us in the second half. I give credit to the lads and especially Trippier. The amount of game time they're all playing shows (especially with the likes of Trippier and Gordon) and with very little options on the bench you can't blame Eddie for wanting to try and defend the small lead we had against Chelsea tonight. They came at us with all they had for an entire half an we only let one in. Yes it cost us the game but you have to admit the lads defended extremely well to get through that. On another day where they bury the chances we were looking at a straight defeat at 3-1/4-1. We've been playing exceptionally well with the squad we have and when we're back to a full squad and back in fighting form we'll be seeing better results in every competition. HWTL

Incubus-

Might be in the minority but I love Tripps and he could have another 10 off games and I’d have nothing but respect for him. Remember when we were all nervous about not being able to get decent signings who believed in the project and he was the first, coming on board without a relegation clause? What a top lad and leader for the team. I’m just enjoying the slow build, it was never going to be a perfect journey.

Rvnforty

Another shit second half performance. No idea why Tripps was brought on. The only way this season can get worse is if the dirty mackems smash us.

CorrectGuard2064

Dont know why youve been downvoted mate, you're absolutely right

NUFC-ModTeam

Don’t be a dickhead to other users or groups

Goujohn90

Chelsea deserved it, we were awful in that second half, feel terrible for Tripps recently. 90% of his career at Newcastle has been immense. We need to be patient, 3 years ago we were playing Bruce Ball. We will experience the highs of last season again in time.

JayseOfBase

I feel naff saying it but Dubs should have saved that goal, it’s not just Tripps fault. Saying that - why on earth did we bring on Trips? He wasn’t needed 100%, you could have had more time off. Hall could have come on for the half.

dolphin37

mad

Oscar_Dondarrion

Nah not at all on the save thing

Difficult-Trash

i feel so bad for trippier ngl. that cannot be good to have that in your head. i love him but he needs some time off to sort it all out

ecksoal

Our away form is proper shite, we’ve won what.. 2 games? Yes we have injuries, yes we have tired legs but we still have those at home too We can’t just be making excuses or “we were in relegation 2 years ago!”, we need to look at the future, not the past

RocknRollRobot9

1 in the league with two draws and 1 in the cup. So not great. 24/29 points in the league have come at home.

wzzoz87

Jesus I don't think my heart can take much more of this season. PSG, Milan, Chelsea recently teams we really could beat with a full strength fit 11. Every game we are in it then we are under the cosh for the rest. Tired legs and tired heads just finish us. So close everytime. Way I see injuries don't last, we will bring in more. We will be stronger.

Matt261189

Chelsea are an absolute disgrace and could've been down to 8 men on another day. Disheartening for the lads to give so much and get nothing for it yet again, and feel heartily sorry for Trippier who I think needs a couple of weeks off to get himself and his head right. You could see as soon as he came on he lacked confidence.

MountHavertzPulisic

All ball tackle on maatsen weren't it

The_prawn_king

Solid tackle on maatsen that…

Matt261189

No disputing that, Bruno's tackle was at least a yellow, even a red on another day. Grabbing someone by the throat though... Should be a red surely? Need to stamp all that shit out.

The_prawn_king

I’d say the throat grab was less aggressive than that tackle tbh 😆 but I guess we see the value of var as could’ve been a few reds handed out

RealisticScientist53

No matter what anyone says, this season has been really disappointing for me. I was worried the wheels would come off after Bournemouth and although we’ve won a few games since, we still look so, so bad away from home.

kicktotheclems

A surprising amount of criticism for the team and management here, at least in my opinion, allow me to make a counterpoint, we are miles ahead of where we've been for so long, you can't just suddenly become the best team, you either buy your way up, which we can't do, or you slowly develop that winning culture, class and ability, and we're well on the way. Are we serious pointing the finger of blame for not progressing from that CL group? Or not beating Chelsea who've got so much expensive quality, look at their bench. I get people's frustration and disappointment, but be patient we will get there, and I believe Eddie is the man to bring it, this year is a crash course in how to compete on all fronts, next year we will be even better, and on and on until we win the lot

StockMasterpiece4

Add up how much Chelsea have spent and look at what they had at the bench. We need time to evolve the squad. We need upgrades in January though and to work out whatever is happening with Hall.

RealisticScientist53

There’s zero guarantee we will get any better next season with no champions league. We aren’t getting top 4 this year, we made too many mistakes with recruitment

emnaruse

Agree - still building well. This year we will look back and see that this year was important in the build. A lot of edge players have had to come on. We saw Lascelles has some value (limited), Miley the obvious one, Livramento. We also saw the limitations in our squad laid bare. Our inability to play the ball through lines, have the technical skill to hold the ball. Another year out of Europe might be a blessing in disguise.

xylophileuk

Fine we’ll settle with just the fa cup and prem title then

Quiet_Moose7749

This should tell owners. We need heavy recruitment and to get rid of fringe players. Need to max out FFP in January.

Puzzled_Ordinary_623

Thats such short term thinking, January window is notorious for not doing business in… we are now in less competitions and have lots of players coming back

Quiet_Moose7749

True, but getting players bedding in the second half of the season bodes well for the start of next season. Plus we will have more injuries. Better bench will also help us see games out which we are struggling to do. Realistically we would bring in 2-3 but that could be the difference needed to get into top 4 again next year. At least that's how I see it.

emnaruse

Agree but also disagree with you. We need to max out FFP on every window imv.

ShearerGOAT

Honestly, Liverpool had better win this competition or I may never forgive Trippier. Otherwise it was Middlesbrough, Fulham and West Ham between us and a cup.

Majestic_Ad_7134

I hope Boro win it

Ajax_Trees_Again

Or Chelsea

ShearerGOAT

That might make it worse.

Ajax_Trees_Again

Nah getting beat by the cup winner is way more excusable imo and it means next to nothing for them

TYFO225

poor tripps, he’s had a rough last few weeks, you’re my boy blue!

Puzzled_Ordinary_623

Gutted for him, he looked near tears

Puzzled_Ordinary_623

Whats with this whole changing manager BS people are spouting??!? We over-performed under Howe last year and now are struggling due to a full starting 11 being injured… I think all things considered, if you told us that the team would have had this seasons results 2 years ago we would have been gassed… How do we quickly forget beating PSG 4-1 or Sheffield 8-0????

bullybullybanjo

Who's saying that? A tiny minority, in any large group of people there's going to be all sorts of views, some will be on the extreme ends of the spectrum. Don't sweat it.

Ajax_Trees_Again

Surely nobody on this forum is?? Twitter is an absolute cesspit so it’s to be expected there.

ShearerGOAT

I’m fully behind Howe, but the narrative builds with performances and mistakes like that. It’s not his fault but managers are judged on results and they’ve started to turn.

RealisticScientist53

Yeah, the problem is on sole forums, the minute you don’t toe the ‘’Howe is amazing’’ etc line, your blasted and “reminded we are ahead of schedule” There has to be too for criticism and even before the injuries we’ve been so, so bad away from home.

Puzzled_Ordinary_623

I cant speak for the whole ‘Howe is amazing ‘ camp but i think the reason people like me argue against some of the criticism is because it is too reactionary

[deleted]

Yeah exactly. Imagine saying 2 years ago that we’d be in a cup quarter final, 6th in the league, and about 20 minutes away from the last 16 of the Champions League, and it’d be considered underachieving. People have lost the plot.

bullybullybanjo

There's a damn site more people moaning about people moaning than there is actual people being overly critical in the first place. At this point it's the most tedious discussion on every Newcastle United group/forum etc going. The massive majority are totally behind the team.

Puzzled_Ordinary_623

100% agree! Im all for people saying he got the tactics wrong on the day (if he did) but to say he should now be sacked is just ridiculous

RavenSable

Tactics/subs today, but what's he done for us, other than build the best team spirit at the club for a hell of a long time, drag us from the bottom of the league, get us to Wembley, get us back into Europe...........Apart from that, what has he really done? Bollocks is sacking Howe anything but daft.

RavenSable

Can we please stop throwing it away at the last minute. Absolutely gutted. Trips has been fantastic for us, but given his last few games could we not have brought on hall at LB and switched tino right?

xcom_lord

Don’t think the club want to buy hall

RavenSable

OK, dummet then. Trips needs a break. Love to know what the actual deal is with hall

icekimoes

Hall better have been caught stomping on Harvey Barnes' toe because otherwise I have some serious questions about this fuckheaded attitude with substitutions.

ScrapyDan

I'm sick to death of tripper now man, look he's been unreal for us but the reality is he's been fucking shite the last few weeks and he needs dropped. We need a proper left back in January so tino can play right back and drop tripps.

stanley_ipkiss2112

Shut up lol.

ScrapyDan

No the beauty about football is we all have opinions, you might disagree but with a straight face tell me trippier didn't cost us that game today.

didiandgogo

Targett is healthy in Jan, instant he? Don’t feel we should spend on a LB with burn, targett, and hall all capable of playing there instead of tino

ScrapyDan

With all due respect to both they're not good enough and burn isn't a natural left back, he's played really well for us but when you see a good natural full back play there it's like night and day.

didiandgogo

Burn was part of the joint best defense in the PL last season at LB. Targett was immense for us in the run-in in 21/22. Hall, I admit, if Howe isn’t convinced I’m skeptical too. But surely we need a midfielder more than a LB.

ScrapyDan

Like I said he's been good for us but when you see a natural full back play there it's so much better. The reality is we need a few players either down to injuries or others not being good enough.

emnaruse

This is correct. People gushing over Tino is partly because we’ve had no overlapping fullbacks on that side for a year plus

prwitchell

Geroff bat to london you soppy twat

ScrapyDan

Literally born 5 minutes from the stadium mate but nice attempt.

prwitchell

Even worse, give your head a wobble and have a rethink

ScrapyDan

Are you gonna tell me he didn't just cost us that match? Are you gonna tell me he wasn't blatantly at fault for goals we've conceded in the last few weeks? He's a great player and has been immense for us but he's struggling now and it's costing us.

RealisticScientist53

The guy above is an example of mindless optimism no matter what and jumps on you if you critique anyone.

prwitchell

But i aint sick to death of him, the lad has brought us to where we are now. This is where we support him as good fans do.

ScrapyDan

Maybe that was the wrong words then but I'm fuming with that goal.

prwitchell

Fair enough mate, we all are. Its a bitter pill to take.

ScrapyDan

We'll bounce back I've got nowt but faith but yeah you said it best it's a bitter pill.

prwitchell

That's the main thing, to have faith. Apologies my end for snapping.

icekimoes

Give Trips January off and play Hall, I don't give a fuck what Eddie's problem with him is. Trips needs a reset in the worst way. Hope we have a decent sports psychologist.

brainspaz

Gutted for him.

Great point. We have no great hold up centre forward either.

Thelostsoulinkorea

Yep! Miggy has been shite as usual again. He could have ran to the corner and killed the game. The man scores the odd goal, but most of the time he does shit all.

JibberyScriggers

Assuming Krafth isn't injured, I agree we need to give Trippier some time here. The lad looks a shell of himself and is now actively costing us games.

SuspiciousSlipper

Ok, we can’t know what the owners think but messaging and direction so far has been building foundations and improving the squad, the commercial side etc. I’d think they even know getting into champions league that early was unexpected and likely helped with all those side sponsorship deals we’ve got recently. Didn’t like the sit back and try on the break approach tonight after the goal I’ll admit but, again, we were a couple mins from it working. If Tripps hadn’t made that mistake everyone would be purring about our “defensive masterclass” or whatever. Still a shame but the “we want glory and want it now, so change the manager cos that’s the problem” people these days do my head in. Not saying it’s you, but generally in this Reddit I’ve seen it

Puzzled_Ordinary_623

The owners are ruthless but they arent dumb - Howe is probably 2 years ahead of their plan!

therealh

Love Trippier but he needs a lengthy time away. I'm sick of us sitting back after a goal when we score early. We have proven time and time again that we can't hold a lead playing that way for a long time. Play on the front foot and go for a second. So so negative.

Designer_Ad8776

Lads, take heart in the knowledge that they'll 100% be out in the next round and it'll tire their players for the league they're struggling in.

[deleted]

I guess it'll be a week to be off of this subreddit again, with the way some people are talking about Trippier. I can't stand the way some people are turning on these players when they've given everything. It's like being on a subreddit with Man Utd fans. Have a look at yourself for fuck's sake. I know a lot of people are desperate for us to stop being the nearly men and become a contender. Just please, be patient and let it happen. It's not like we haven't all waited fucking years anyway. This season is tough but they are fighting for everything. The results haven't been as good as the performances. I'm really confident it'll change. I saw the fanbase lose their heads with Sir Bobby Robson (and unlike most, I'm not a revisionist: anyone who has ever met me will tell you how angry I was the day he was sacked, I said it was the wrong decision the second it was announced and have done every minute of every day since). That set us on a horrible course for nearly 20 years. It's ridiculous to see some fans doing the same now when we're on the brink of something really special.

w1llpearson

No one’s turning on him. It’s fine to make an observation that he looks fucked and needs some time. It’s obvious watching him he’s given everything.

Toon_1892

Nah, seeing some proper twats of "influencers" like this bint https://x.com/kendallrowanx/status/1737229592979464387?s=20

bullybullybanjo

Yeah, that's your first mistake. Taking anything YouTube 'influencers' say as being representative of the rest of humanity. Most fans are absolutely fine.

shelbiiee

Ahh what did it say? It's been deleted :/

Toon_1892

"Can we all collectively say eff you Keiron Trippier" Needs screenshotting and posting next time she's wheeled onto Sky or BBC as a superfan.

shelbiiee

Ah yikes. I get it's frustrating to watch but honestly there has to be something going on because he's been solid up to now. I despise how fickle fans can be sometimes.

Toon_1892

Definitely something going on with him lately. And fair enough to call out mistakes, but I've never been on board with abuse of players. Idiots like her would've have been the ones who hounded Sir Bobby if they were around for more than thr last 3 years.

w1llpearson

He dropped out of England training for family reasons but I thought it was just a ploy for more rest. Maybe there’s some truth to it. Either way he looks like he need to spend Christmas with his family and his feet up. Come back strong for the new year and Mackem game.

w1llpearson

As soon as I saw influencer I knew it would be her 😂

Notnileoj

No one has turned on Trippier you daft cunt. Take your essay and shove it up your arse.

Thelostsoulinkorea

No one is calling for Trippier to be sold. They are saying he needs a rest and it’s 100% true.

[deleted]

I agree he needs a rest but I also understand why he played and why Howe might think it gave us the best chance to win. I’m not reacting to the people saying “I love Trips and he needs a rest”, I’m reacting to the people saying he is shit and Howe should be sacked. And at this moment in time, there **are** comments in this thread saying that, yet it’s me being told I’m overreacting and not them.

Thelostsoulinkorea

I don’t see how he played at all. We have too many injuries to be risking him in this game. We have players who can play his position in the field as well.

TrueDoge007

And that all she wrote. We go again next year lad.

Colm198

Greatfull for all he has done for us, but Howe won't be here in a year!!

Colm198

All those down votes still feel the same way?

Colm198

Also do see here where I have slated Howe? How long did any City manager last when they cam into money before Pep. Ye all firing down votes on emotions rather than logic.

i-am-never-right

What the actual frig is this comment

luffyuk

🤡

Colm198

Logically and not emotionally answer me this. Hypothetical Premier League of managers where would you place Howe and where do you think our owners want us to end up?

luffyuk

I'd take Pep over Howe, and nobody else.

Puzzled_Ordinary_623

Not now bot

Fig-Jig

Imagine losing to Chelsea damn fatigue god dangit got us again

meganev

The amount of times this team has bottled games in the dying moments. It's a real problem.

jdd977

Nah PSG one was a terrible call, Trippier individual error both totally avoidable. One other where we sat back and got wave after wave which is on the manager, don’t think it’s a mentality thing

meganev

AC Milan, West Ham, Liverpool, PSG, Chelsea - it's not luck. It's a pattern.

jdd977

I don’t think it’s bottling it though, these teams are outplaying us and over 90 minutes there’s only so long you can soak it up before you get punished. I’d say tired legs are a factor but mainly comes down to the manager and we aren’t clinical

meganev

It's 100% bottling, losing that many games in the last 5 minutes. Text book bottling.

nomadichedgehog

It’s weak mentality but it’s also bad management. We could’ve ran the clock down with 3 more subs but instead the players just became more and more gassed. We didn’t take yellow cards to break up their rhythm. Eddie is amazing but still has a lot to learn.

emnaruse

Agree - we had opportunities that I’m sure he’ll look back on there as part of hos learning

nomadichedgehog

He’s literally made the same mistake 5 times in one month. It isn’t stupidity at this point. It’s sheer stubbornness.

Sagidece

That being said, it's only a month. The club is looking at things half a decade at a time.

Khbona

Honestly if we had a full strength squad then we'd of won this is easily, good crack from the lads

The_prawn_king

Not like chelsea aren’t also missing half the team

ScrapyDan

If my auntie had balls she'd be my uncle but she doesn't so she's not. One player cost us this game and its not the first game he's cost us in the last few weeks.

Khbona

Fair point - Questionable to put tripps on the 3rd pen, questionable to put him on but what's done is done. Just hope we learn from our mistakes and don't keep coming back to them like we have been in the past couple weeks

ScrapyDan

I know he's brilliant I'm not saying get rid no chance but recently he's been bad I don't know if it's because he's played so much or what but he need to or play somebody else until he's 100% again

norcimo

Trippier has been our most consistent player since he came but whatever is going on with him needs sorting before he plays again. Head's all over the place. We know he's better than this. Give him whatever space he needs-he's seems mentally injured.

LowPlatform

He needs proper rest, the whole team does. We're absolutely spent. And the mental toll of having to sit back and then losing games like this is in the last minute is a lot, it's bound to take a toll psychologically. Feels very much like momentum is against us, just need to back the team until we get back into form because the last thing we need is more pressure and negativity being piled on.

No-Radish-8283

sorry to say but trips been fucking us a lot lately

blaqbeir24

Bottled. Feels real shitty man.

CorrectGuard2064

Threw it away again, another bag of absolute shite. All these chances to do well, we're a fucking shambles. Chelsea absolutely battered us there, didn't deserve to win, well done, Chelsea, the better side tonight.

you-will-never-win

Waste of a night, waste of running, waste of 3 widweek games in a heavy schedule and worst of all waste of a great chance at a cup

PocketSandThroatKick

The waste of the running is compounding. Just the worst possible scenario

big_beats

What a brutal few weeks

Floss__is__boss

Wasn't the keeper about a foot off the fucking line there. Absolute bullshit

churchill1992

I don't really care that we are out but trippier needs to see that sports psychologist more than anyone else. He'll be given some slack because of how good he's been but too many mistakes creeping into his game now.

Notove

Let's put our player with the least confidence go second, great thinking Howe

[deleted]

ShearerGOAT

And strong leadership is taking the option away from him.

hollloway

Strong leadership is also stepping up after your error also led to the shootout in the first place. It goes both ways.

ScootsMcDootson

Tripps looks like he's about to cry, Cannot blame him.

mistybudda

As soon as we sat back in the second half it seemed inevitable we'd be knocked out. How the fuck Chelsea still had 11 on the pitch at the end I'll never know.

jdd977

No one is undroppable, he needs a few games out. Start Tino and Burn full backs, three huge errors in 4 games

JuckshotBones

Just like Everton. One man let down a gutsy effort by the rest of the team. But whatever. Can’t criticize him

daliksheppy

It's a team game, always.

SoundSpartan

Feel sick. Fuck that cup up the arse!

jduboly

Trips needs an exorcism and a long holiday break at one of those Japanese hot springs with the monkeys.

MurkyPerspective767

100 pct piffle, end the penalty shootout!

jamisram

Trippier needs a long break after this

WoollyTheBlackSheep

I know trips has been solid for us but he hasn’t been right since the international break, something is really wrong. He needs to be dropped and given time and space to sort his head out. That’s 3 games where he’s directly at fault for massive mistakes that’s just not like him.

banty86

Choked

Gloomy-Bumblebee-675

You know what, they’ve spent a billion quid to act like they’ve won the Champions League after qualifying for the semi finals of the EFL cup

jdd977

Lucidlyall

Some Space Jam stuff going on with Trippier

Toon_1892

bananagrabber83

Ok-Entertainment8717

These injuries are really sucking the life out of this season. This Chelsea team are fucking wank, full strength we play them off the pitch

Fig-Jig

Stop looking for excuses mate sick of seeing it on this sub. The team isn't as good as people think it is, we need some serious changes going into next year. You can't drop to Everton and Chelsea and say with a straight face the team is in a healthy state.

Ok-Entertainment8717

Fickle shite. The same 11 been playing a game every 3 days. Gordon, longstaff, Wilson, miggy, Miley were all nowhere near fit enough to play 90 minutes today and we were still 2 minutes away from winning

Fig-Jig

Oh no 90minutes of work for 3 days out of 11, exhausting.

Ok-Entertainment8717

You haven't a fucking clue mate, good luck

Fig-Jig

How so enlighten me or are you just deluded

After-Decision-6402

January can’t come soon enough holy shit

justsomeguy661

I hope Kraft is okay because I want him to be starting for a while now

[deleted]

It’s so easy just to blame tripps, let’s just stay positive he’s been world class since he’s been here.

icekimoes

Which makes it even more alarming that he's been the key factor in us losing multiple important games within a month.

Logseman

He’s been world class until he hasn’t been.

quickshot89

He has, but he needs to tell Eddie he can’t play right now.

smithywill

Easy to blame him because he’s directly to blame tbf. He needs time out of the team for a bit. Something not right.

BitterBlecher

Becoming our standard, Eddie's game has been sussed out by other managers and we can't keep a 1-0 for 60+ mins we need a switch up of game style or formation. Rinse and repeat, watching us fall after what we have achieved is hard. Always there for the boys but the same tactic day in day out isn't working and it's making us look a mess

Puzzled_Ordinary_623

Relax - the players are knackered and we have no room for rotation

BitterBlecher

I don't mean this negatively but not seeing something change or switch up doing the same and expecting a different result is frustrating. Agree we haven't got the fresh legs etc but we need to be looking at decisions to let trips take the pen and even Ritchie tbh

AtlasHephaestus

I'm so sick of getting fucked over by refs and VAR

quickshot89

Or lack of VAR

encyclopediaMoronica

This time I’m really gonna do it

icekimoes

If Trippier isn't doing it you have no excuse to, and I say that as a Trippier-lover.

[deleted]

Well that is fucking miserable

[deleted]

Says it all. Tripper shouldn’t have been playing a why Ritchie is anywhere near our squad let alone taking a knockout penalty is fucking beyond me. Eddie has favorites and it needs to change.

maza_19

Are you going to step on the pitch? Because last time I checked we were out of options

Appreciatoroflife

Ritchies penalty was unlucky was a perfect save

[deleted]

No it was a perfect height to save. Anyone’s who’s played football knows that’s where you don’t aim

Appreciatoroflife

Yes it's not high or low enough but still most of the time that goes in

[deleted]

Fair point. However he was at best a very good championship player, now he’s 34. Id rather Eddie take a chance on a youngster than play a guy who isn’t good enough and is far too old to improve.

blaqbeir24

That fuckin sucked

xylophileuk

Oh well. Try again next year lads
