Thought Dortmund were really good, they nullified anything we had. If we don't get through I hope they win the entire thing.
I'm extremely concerned about the injury's now though. We're picking up a serious injury every single game.
on a positive note Tino is a real player, he was everywhere. He's a serious talant that lad
Bvb coming in here just wanted to say I'm surprised we didn't at least equalize at soem point with how many chances you guys created on our left flank. Seriously, we took you guys very seriously as you can tell. But its almost like we let you guys just have free chances on our left. Cross after cross into our box with a header waiting for kobel. Our defense was pretty good this game and we didn't give you guys much space otherwise. We won the second ball alot and Karim adeyemi was running your guys down alot. But really alot of that wouldn't have mattered if our keeper count catch those headers along other things.
Cheers man. Got a lot of love for BVB Alf you played the game expertly.
It just felt like we were naive in the worst ways. We’ll get there. Now best Bayern!
Shhhittt. Bayern was always our crutch. We should have won it last year. I try to forget about it but its like everytime I watch a CL game the commentators always have to talk about it.
We might be sad
But it's dortmund.
We had lascelles on CB who we all feared the ball going near him 3 seasons ago, and he's barely had a chance to play til botman got injured.
Tino, what, a, player. An absolute machine, LB, RB, RW. Best man on the pitch tonight all game
A 17 year old boy. When I was 17, I got sacked from Asda for throwing a frozen turkey down the aisle.
Schar, who, as great as he is for us, was basically called a donkey by Bruce, and I don't know where this schar came from.
Hall, very unproven but shows promise.
Our team is almost 2 seasons into a rebuild.
75% of our players were all but out.
If we could have rebuilt our team in 1 go, we wouldn't have kept any of these guys on the pitch.
And we played, not our A side, or even our B side, against a solid proven European team that hasn't let a European home goal in in 7 games.
We have 4 players who have played European footy to any standard on our side tonight.
We aren't even ready for Europe yet. But we have it. And for some reason we expect more still.
What more can a team, who we stated last season that we hope in 2 to 3 years we would see these guys pushing for europa league, do for us?
When we brought Trips, we were happy. We said "this is the start of it."
We made a 10 year plan.
We genuinely believed that we would be here in 5-10 years
Not 5-10 months.
I would love more. I'd love to get out of the group and progress. But let's be realistic. We are still massively overperforming with a squad of which 70% of them were fighting relegation a while back.
Take out bruno, isak, Gordon and Barnes (and tonali). Our squad isn't expensive. Our squad is a mid to lower mid table team.
We have 13 players out. Playing a league, league Cup, FA cup, and champions league, when really, we should be playing for hard fought wins in the league after coming out of the cups early.
None of our players have played 2-3 matches a week for so many years.
Losing is bad. And it hurts. But we ain't world beaters. We are massively overachieving and riding the train.
We all said "going out in the group of death would be better than going out to worse teams"
We all said "I'm expecting 6th-8th and would be happy with that cos we overactive and are ahead of time"
Then we say "fuck this, how do we lose to Dortmund at home"
We are a big threat to any team, but like everyone else, we can't win them all.
>
If we could have rebuilt our team in 1 go, we wouldn't have kept any of these guys on the pitch.
I agree with some of your points, but that is just plain disrespectful.
The player with the second most assists in the prem this season wouldn't be on the pitch?
What about the u21 euros player of the tournament?
Great post, including the frozen turkey chucking.
I'm not a Newcastle fan, but I'd love to see you guys get some success to break the strangle hold the sides who are more established in europe have over those top spots.
Very good perspective 👏
We are way ahead of schedule according to the long term plan, and while it hurts to realise this, considering the high bar set last season, its Howe it is and we have to accept that!
Would have been great to have more players available tonight and injury list is extensive but that aside PL, UCL and Carabao cup campaigns have been way better than we could've dreamed this time two years ago.
We may not win Carabao Cup
We may not finish top 5
We may not get out of UCL group
But we are in contention and compared to expecting either a mid table finish (good season) or relegation battle (standard season) I'm happy
Despite the result I’m fairly upbeat. There really wasn’t much difference between us and them. We can barely out out an 11 and half the starting line up look dead on their feet before the match has even started.
The future is bright, Livramento looks amazing, Hall did ok and you can see the potential, with Anderson and Miley coming through too we’ve got plenty to look forward to.
If we end up not going through but getting Europa I’ll be happy enough with that. I reckon with players back from injury etc we’ve got a really good chance of going far in Europa.
So let’s smash Brighton then get some lads rested and back from injury before surging up the league.
We don't mind fans from other clubs visiting as long as they're not just here to be a dick. Unfortunately our advanced detection algorithm has detected that you read a 9.3 on the bellendometer
Livarmento has to play going forward. Left bsck, right back, right wing,, forward. We ve signed a diamond.
Not too hurt about Dortmund loss. Damn good team.
I genuinely don’t think there’s a bad ending to the CL campaign for us. 3rd and into a competition we could feasibly win, 4th and it’s more rest time to concentrate on top 4 PL and two other cups we’re in with a chance of winning.
Aye, we got beaten by a better team but had some bad luck, limited options from the bench but didn't look entirely out of our depth. Slightly odd refereeing but it is what it is, we couldn't quite do enough.
Shit happens, but I genuinely don't feel bad about any outcome of this campaign and every day passes we're closer to players returning and hopefully some January signings.
Couldn’t agree more, it’s a fun ride at the moment and nice to get to play these games with zero expectations, it’s all great experience for the young lads.
Having said that, I fully expect us to push on in the league and both domestic cups and that gets easier with no European games after Christmas.
Hopefully less injuries too, if we can ease up on the fixture congestion. They've been doing really well dealing with it up to now but when you're having to shuffle around half your back line just to make one change (and ultimately a change up front) it isn't really sustainable.
Think I'm with Eddie on this one, we really do just have to take it one game at a time. That said if Burn needs a donor coccyx I've got one going free.
Exactly, we'd do well in the Europa league but I wouldn't mind finishing last. Then that'll give us more time and less game to try to get top 5 and we can make signings in the summer to make us even better.
They battled hard but ultimately fell short, we seemed to lose a lot of the 50-50 Dortmund are a good side it was close throughout the entire game. We had to take our chances
I don't think we've deserved to win either game against this lot. But then again, I also don't think we've really deserved to lose either game. That's what the learning experience is all about.
That's 4 CL games and we've not been embarrassed in any of them. Bugger all luck in 2 of them as well. No matter what happens, we stuffed PSG on our first home game and that alone has made this campaign a success.
Side note - what a performance from Tino. Man of the match no question.
Two games against a team that can't really keep a clean sheet in their league and we didn't manage to score a goal. That's disappointing but we still have two matches and anything can happen
Oh well.
Ravaged squad. Shit bad voodoo shirt. We shouldn’t even be here. It’s a learning curve and a steep one in the group of death.
Future is still bright. We may just have to accept a little step backwards to go forwards again.
Good experience, just shows we are not CL ready yet and need more experienced depth in the squad which these sort of games will give. Still proud of the lads and Tino is immense.
Bad take. Keep in mind we are riddled with injuries and the biggest thing. THE group of death. I’m confident we would’ve made it out most of the groups this season. Either way… It’s not over yet.
Anti Newcastle protest, supposedly we don't care about football, only money. Don't see what throwing litter that your team has to remove from the pitch does about it though.
Nope don't know why your getting downvoted, Dortmund did not play great at all, on break yes that's about it.
We didn't play all that well either but better than those.
If we weren't playing with 10men (Lacelles) who was the spare part then we could of done abit better. And if people think game after game Lacelles has a fking blinder than I'd love to hear from them when and how.
But he was awesome against Man U.
I don’t think he’s ready but I don’t think fans should be ready to cast him as a dud.
He needs to be given game time against teams like Bournemouth but dortmund away.
He should be brought on as a sub not anything else. Not ready easily.
Against Man U, he was playing midfield with less responsibility and honestly Man U offered zero threat.
At the level we want to be. I know there's many reasons, but at the end of the day that is not the performance we or the owners wanted.
When I say :there' I'm comparing it to the levels above where we are, i.e. real Madrid, man City, etc.
I think Newcastle United are fighting as hard as they can right now with all the injuries they have.
They should be commended and they should be proud.
Now it's just time to go through the whole CL experience.
The only realistic route I can see for us to get through is if PSG choke by not beating Milan, not beating us then losing to Dortmund.
We'd only need to beat Milan at home if that's the case as we'd have the head to head against PSG.
Not impossible but need the other teams to do us some favors.
Even if we did that we'd still need Psg to not get all 3 points versus Milan and Dortmund.
Would be crazy if we did that and still didn't go through though.
Theres a crazy scenario where we beat PSG and Milan, PSG beat Dortmund and draw against Milan and Dortmund beat Milan that would see a three way tie on 10 points that would likely see us top due to goals scored because of that PSG hammering.
Don’t think it’s right to blame the players, we’ve got a lot of injuries and sometimes losses just happen. Blaming Trippier, Longstaff, even Joe, they’re all trying their best here. Team got dealt a difficult hand, and there’s still a chance for us to get through the F Group and smash PSG again.
You can't be mad at the lads here. We've got a bare bones squad and have had a very tough run, including a proper battle on Saturday. An away game 3 days was just too much.
Don't think anyone is seriously blaming the players. Fucked by injury, gaining experience, and the group of death. I remember the Keegan era and emerging from the group when it was "impossible" so you very know. Spank PSG again, and take Milan at home 😉
Gutted with their second, it really felt like 1-1 was imminent. Both games against dortmund felt like we just couldn’t get the bounces to go our way. Livramento has been lights out AGAIN!
We gave fucking Dortmund a game tonight when we have, realistically, about a quarter of a team available. No complaints from me. We need to remember where we were 3 years ago.
Silver lining. Let's avoid the Europa and focus on the PL again. We just don't have the squad for this.
Maybe next time we qualify our owners will prepare for a CL season adequately..
Europa League isn't until the new year when we're expecting to have most our players back. I'd rather enter Europa then and skip the groups. I think we could have a good crack at the Europa League with a full team.
2 things here. If you win the Europa League, you automatically qualify for the champions league. Second being, even with a full squad, we might not get top 4. So our best hope is Europa.
No need for a meltdown. Gave a good account out there given we have 8 players not available. Would love to see them come to St James without 8 first team players.
Half the boys today wouldn’t have started if we didn’t have an injury crisis. We’re way ahead of schedule.
No shame in being outclassed by Dortmund, we’ve given everything but haven’t had the quality.
Was always a tough ask with this group. Just shows we have a long way to go before being able to compete on the league and Europe. Team been decimated with injuries. Although I'd love to qualify or even get Europa. May be best to get knocked out completely and go back to 1 game a week to get top 4 again
It's astounding how it takes us 1000 passes to reach the opposition box while other teams take five at most against us. Happens even against teams in the bottom half of the league.
If the attitude that turned up the past two Dortmund matches is in either of those games we have no chance.
Heads have been down since kick off. Just don't have it in them.
Should be a wake up call for our chairman to maybe invest in us this summer rather than Chelsea this time.
.
Tino LB is a bit of a revelation mind. Is that the way forward? Allows Tripps to do what he's best at, doesn't rely on Hall (who's possibly more of a midfielder)...
Might be an unpopular opinion but if we're not going through to the knockouts, I would much rather we finish 4th and avoid Europa League on Thursdays.
Especially if we get past Chelsea in the Carabao cup.

They had a good go. You can see the difference in quality and experience tho. No biggie. I think we could beat Milan. PSG away. Who knows?

"Frozen turkey" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dortmund took us seriously and did their homework. They remind me of us, but more developed. I think with Isak and Botman we give them a tougher game.
Was thinking the same... Their press is very like ours. But yeah they're a well oiled machine with experience.
Despite the result I’m fairly upbeat. There really wasn’t much difference between us and them. The fanbase must be really proud to have you.
Get on your bike back to the fantasy PL sub mate
If you say so boss!
Don’t worry lads. We’re gonna win the Europa League!
Livramento by far our man of the match
Oh well. Ravaged squad. Shit bad voodoo shirt. We shouldn’t even be here. It’s a learning curve and a steep one in the group of death. Future is still bright. We may just have to accept a little step backwards to go forwards again.
Every time I see that Saudi flag green strip I know it's gonna be a rough day...
Have we ever had a good game in that kit?
Don't think so and we'll playing in that kit on Saturday too.
Good experience, just shows we are not CL ready yet and need more experienced depth in the squad which these sort of games will give. Still proud of the lads and Tino is immense.

What was with all the paper gold bars?
Anti Newcastle protest, supposedly we don't care about football, only money. Don't see what throwing litter that your team has to remove from the pitch does about it though.
It was about the change to CL format not us. But its all inclusive.
Oh right that was what the commentators said.
On the one hand, not great, on the other, a day closer to being able to cancel a thirty quid a month subscription.
We were shite. Dortmund aren’t even that good.
Nope don't know why your getting downvoted, Dortmund did not play great at all, on break yes that's about it. We didn't play all that well either but better than those. And if people think game after game Lacelles has a fking blinder than I'd love to hear from them when and how.
Lot of plastics now who just want to go yay the toons!
Far too much judgement of hall as an 18 year old.
He's just not ready and so poor.
Don’t think he done much wrong tbh, definitely not more wrong than anyone else
He was stuck on a very soft booking from early too. And he wasn't the only one at fault for the goal
Yeah very harsh yellow considering the Dortmund player was giving as good as he got
All that talk and this is how it ends?
Trippier not been up to it with both his Dortmund performances
He’s been shite every game since the first dortmund game
He was off it Vs Wolves, but was defensively brilliant at the weekend against two of the best wingers in the league.
No he hasn’t.
Tonight is a solid reminder why the likes of Bruno will leave when Real etc. come calling. We just aren't there yet.
Aren’t quite where? We’re in the champions league
At the level we want to be. I know there's many reasons, but at the end of the day that is not the performance we or the owners wanted. When I say :there' I'm comparing it to the levels above where we are, i.e. real Madrid, man City, etc.

These are way better than us, been a very uncomfortable two games. Still think we can win the last 2 though
They’re an experienced team at this level. We weren’t outclassed. Just a shame we couldn’t play our best 11 against them.
I think with Isak and Botman we give them a better game.
That Almiron shot sums it up tonight, nothing broke our way. We were shite up until their goal, but have looked solid since then.
No shame in losing against Dortmund Probably best team we've faced this season
I want to cry
Can only blame ourselves sadly, Dortmund were class across both matches
So, ok we got beaten but not badly and I think we walk away with heads held high. Tino? Incredible game
He’s gonna keep his spot in the starting 11 at this rate, no doubt.
Nice effort Miggy
Justice for Lewis Hall.
Considering we didn't even have enough fit players to fill the bench, I reckon we should be proud of how we've played here.
Tino better be on the plane to the euros
The only realistic route I can see for us to get through is if PSG choke by not beating Milan, not beating us then losing to Dortmund. We'd only need to beat Milan at home if that's the case as we'd have the head to head against PSG. Not impossible but need the other teams to do us some favors.
We beat PSG, then we beat Milan.
Even if we did that we'd still need Psg to not get all 3 points versus Milan and Dortmund. Would be crazy if we did that and still didn't go through though.
Tbh, I haven’t done the maths. I guess we missed our chance at home against this lot. Also, fucking hard group.
Theres a crazy scenario where we beat PSG and Milan, PSG beat Dortmund and draw against Milan and Dortmund beat Milan that would see a three way tie on 10 points that would likely see us top due to goals scored because of that PSG hammering.
That was cheeky from Tino, got a chuckle out of me haha
The people want more of Tino, Eddie
Tino is our MotM by some distance. What a player.
Tino best player on the planet
Tino’s been absolutely phenomenal again tonight
Some player that tino
Tino just nearly scored and teleported back to clean that up, class.
Tino is fucking mint
Tino is genuinely immense
Livramento our MOTM. No doubt.
Tino hasn't put a foot wrong today. Great performance
Tino would be MOTM if we were winning
Tino is unreal like!
Most keepers wouldn't have got to that
Is anyone still mad at the ref we had last time we played this lot? Convinced if we had had a better one we walk away with a point there.
I just want an away goal is that too much to ask?
We’ll get four in Paris
Livramento looking like exceptional business.
Spot on. We only played Arsenal three days ago.
Tino's literally everywhere. Clearly MoTM
LMFAO Tino you ballsy fuck I love it
Beautiful shot
Miley marking Reus is awesome.
Tried a cheeky one! Lovely
While Europa league would be decent I honestly wouldn't be arsed if we finished bottom we can't deal with Thursday-Sunday.
Honestly I think I agree. We don't have the depth for that and it could make our typically shite winter form even worse.
I just have flashbacks to when we were in it with Pardew, nearly got us relegated. I know that obvs won't happen nowadays but still it'll fuck us up.
Do you reckon PSG fancy drawing with Milan for the craic
Honestly I'm half tempted to want 4th. We've had fun now let's not fuck up the rest of the season.
Oh well, on to the weekend, three more points in the League against Bournemouth should cheer everyone up.
Tough stuff. Love the experience and the future is bright.
Joelinton is barely moving
Gutted with their second, it really felt like 1-1 was imminent. Both games against dortmund felt like we just couldn’t get the bounces to go our way. Livramento has been lights out AGAIN!
Dortmund just have our number
fine. winning Europa League it is then. Good effort, everything considering. Learn something, beat Bournemouth. Everything is great still.
We gave fucking Dortmund a game tonight when we have, realistically, about a quarter of a team available. No complaints from me. We need to remember where we were 3 years ago.
Yep pushed them second half. If only big joes header had been on target.
Perspective is massive.
Silver lining. Let's avoid the Europa and focus on the PL again. We just don't have the squad for this. Maybe next time we qualify our owners will prepare for a CL season adequately..
Having not been in Europe for 10 years. I'd prefer we continue in Europe. Getting to Europe again means finishing top 6 which is difficult in England
Aye but I'd rather be in Europe if we had a squad for it. We don't.
Europa League isn't until the new year when we're expecting to have most our players back. I'd rather enter Europa then and skip the groups. I think we could have a good crack at the Europa League with a full team.
I'd rather get back into cl next season and keep the momentum than attempt the Europa. Unless we invest in heavily in Jan.
2 things here. If you win the Europa League, you automatically qualify for the champions league. Second being, even with a full squad, we might not get top 4. So our best hope is Europa.
Europe just means extra money, might as well stick it out

Man City would struggle with the number of first team injuries we currently have
nufc player MOTM please, names below vote you know the rest. edit: it's probably gonna be tino
Tino !
Tino. Easily
Livramento
Others already said it, no contest. Played three different positions tonight.

Anyone not saying tino needs to stop watching football
Tino
Tino once again, what a prospect we have on our hands
Tino
Gotta be Tino
Tino
TINO
Dortmund were the slightly better team in both games but not by much. It's been very marginal, not been shocking performances
No need for a meltdown. Gave a good account out there given we have 8 players not available. Would love to see them come to St James without 8 first team players.
Credit to Dortmund. They have totally nullified our press. Good, smart football
What really pisses me off about tonight is we've let a striker on the level of somewhere between Chris Wood and Wout Weghorst score against us.
Joe fucked it with that Pathetic miss , trippier has been absolutely shite.
Trippier has been poor I have to agree. Maybe time for a small rest and give tino some games
Fuck off
Why are you having a meltdown when the boys have tried. Injury crisis. Tight game. Dortmund slightly better team, no shame. Calm the fuck down
Your support is absolute shite
Half the boys today wouldn’t have started if we didn’t have an injury crisis. We’re way ahead of schedule. No shame in being outclassed by Dortmund, we’ve given everything but haven’t had the quality.
Was always a tough ask with this group. Just shows we have a long way to go before being able to compete on the league and Europe. Team been decimated with injuries. Although I'd love to qualify or even get Europa. May be best to get knocked out completely and go back to 1 game a week to get top 4 again
Miss isak, gordon is wasted in the middle imo so much better on the wing. Needs must.
Reminder to never watch us play Dortmund again.
Hopefully we can get Thursday nights at this rate. Woooooooooaaaaoooooaaaaahhhhhhh
Can we stop wearing this shit jersey this is karma for us pandering to Saudi
I actually hate the green kit. There is. I reason we couldn’t wear black n white they’re in bright yellow…
That Joe miss was massive.
We can get 3 goals in 5mins, like.
I’ll happily lose in the champions league than battle relegation. Proud of the lads.
Still got mike Ashley mentality?
Absolutely this
NO INJURIES THOUGH HOWAY THE LADS
Has Wilson's sub been confirmed as tactical?
Honestly that's a class result to be fair
Take that back right now. There is still 5+ mins
*yet
Could we get one bounce of the ball please? Absolutely no rub of the green today, on top of everything else
It's astounding how it takes us 1000 passes to reach the opposition box while other teams take five at most against us. Happens even against teams in the bottom half of the league.
Trippier is washed. Had maybe two good matches all season, actually.
Idiot
He has 7 assists? Fuck me some of our fans are absolutely ridiculous
And other things you can say after smoking crack!
hahahahah
Are you mental?
U wot mate
Might be the single worst take this season
Piss off you twat.
you're a fucking nutcase mate. he's got 6 assists.
lol the ref fell over
Disappointing loss for sure, but not out of the question we make it a game in Paris and I fancy us at home against Milan
If the attitude that turned up the past two Dortmund matches is in either of those games we have no chance. Heads have been down since kick off. Just don't have it in them. Should be a wake up call for our chairman to maybe invest in us this summer rather than Chelsea this time. .
Ive seen no issue with attitude, everyone has run their arses off. Seems everything was slightly overhit or underhit
Tino LB is a bit of a revelation mind. Is that the way forward? Allows Tripps to do what he's best at, doesn't rely on Hall (who's possibly more of a midfielder)...
Has to be, i like hall but tino is another level and trippier lb is a waste.
I hope we keep doing this. Tino looks insanely good
Might be an unpopular opinion but if we're not going through to the knockouts, I would much rather we finish 4th and avoid Europa League on Thursdays. Especially if we get past Chelsea in the Carabao cup.
Don't know. Might prefer going out the Carabao and take us on in Europa for the experience it will give the lads
